By Levinus Nwabughiogu ABUJA – In a manner that depicted worry and anger consequent upon the present poor state of the Nigerian economy, President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday in Abuja lashed out at the 16 years rule of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, regretting that the previous governments did not save for the “rainy day”. Buhari spoke while receiving the President of the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO), Dr. Bernard O. Aliyu at the State House, Abuja. Making a comparison of PDP governments to the first republic which he said achieved a lot with meager resources of that time, the president regretted that the PDP governments failed to help the economy grow even with the all-time rise of crude oil sales of $100 dollars per barrel then. Making a comparison of PDP governments to the first republic which he said achieved a lot with meager resources of that time, the president regretted that the PDP governments failed to help the economy grow even with the all-time rise of crude oil sales of $100 dollars per barrel then. President Buhari who also declared that Nigeria needed to grow beyond mere emphasis on its potentials, however assured that his administration would do its best to develop the economy beyond rethorics. He said “Nigeria needs to work on her potentials, so that we don’t remain permanently at the level of potentials. “If Ethiopia is sustained largely by her airline industry, we have greater potentials here. But we must move out, engage with the rest of the world, as we need to re-establish the integrity of this country. We need to rebuild this country again.” The President recounted that for the greater part of the last 16 years, oil sold above $100 per barrel but expressed regret that the nation did not have much to show for it. “In the First Republic, more enduring infrastructure was built with meager resources. But in the past 16 years, we made a lot of money without planning for the rainy day. “We showed a lot of indiscipline in managing our economy, and that is why we are where we are today. But this time round, we’ll do our best.” Speaking earlier, Dr Aliyu, the Nigerian-born ICAO president commended President Buhari for strides on anti- corruption, and urged Nigeria to pay more attention to development of civil aviation. “Civil aviation is a catalyst for economic development. The level of aviation development in any country mirrors the economic development of that country,” he said. The ICAO president also pledged to support the development of the aviation industry in Nigeria, urging the country to improve on training and capacity development, aviation security, aerodromes and air navigation, runways, control towers, terminal buildings, among others. 11 0 0 0 Read more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/04/state-of-economy-pdps-wasteful-16-years-reason-nigeria-is-poor-buhari/ |

… Calls for their release Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has condemned the arrest of 76 Igbo villagers from Ugwuneshi Autonomous community, Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State, following a clash between the natives and Fulani herdsmen, saying, “It has gotten to a level that lovers of peace in Nigeria must speak out on this keg of gun powder which the threat that the Fulani herdsmen has become.” No fewer than 76 men from the Ugwuneshi Autonomous community were last Thursday arrested and whisked away by “men in military uniform” after they protested the continued destruction of their crops and farmlands by Fulani herdsmen and their cattle who settled in the area without permission. Reacting to the alleged arrest, Governor Fayose, who spoke through his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, said President Muhammadu Buhari should address the killing of Nigerians and destruction of farmlands by the Fulani herdsmen. The governor, who called for the immediate and unconditional release of the 76 Igbo villagers, said the President Buhari’s All Progressives Congress (APC) federal government must not give impression that the Fulani herdsmen were lords in other people’s lands. Governor Fayose said the Fulani herdsmen were giving impression that they now own Nigeria and could perpetrate any crime and get away with it. He said: “It is worrisome that the Fulani herdsmen that killed over 400 Agatus in Benue State, raped women and destroyed farmlands in the North Central, South West and South South zones of Nigeria are walking the streets free while Igbo people, who opted to defend their sources of livelihood are languishing in detention. “Are they saying that those Igbo villagers do not have rights to defend their farmlands from further destruction by the Fulani herdsmen when the president who should defend them is keeping silent? “These people must be released by whichever security agency of the federal government that is holding them because Nigerians don’t deserve to be treated like slaves in their own house.” Read more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/03/protest-against-fulani-herdsmen-fayose-condemns-arrest-of-76-igbo-villagers/ |
MAJOR roads in Ondo state remained deserted following the perennial shortage of petrol in the last one week. Motorists were stranded as almost all filling stations across the state did not open for business. Reports also says that major markers diverted their consignments to independent marketers who sold for N220 per litre in the state. The scarcity continued to bite harder as the major roads became deserted with few vehicles plying them. Vehicle owners parked them at home in in their offices following their inability to buy the product at the exorbitant price. Despite selling at N220 per litre, the queues in the few stations across the state were endless. Motorists sleep over night at the NNPC Mega station which is the only. Station selling the product at the government approved pump price. Vanguard gathered that the scarcity followed the directive from the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) to all dealers in the state to sell at the new price of N86:50k per liter. It was gathered that the marketers, especially the independent marketers, resolved to shut down operation in protest against the new price which the DPR was forcing on them. A manager of one of the filling stations said they decided to close down because of the new directive from the federal government compelling them to sell at N86: 50k while they are buying at N140 without cost of transportation to their stations. He said ” my boss has directed that the station should be closed because of the new directive by the federal government . Speaking on the development, the Chairman of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, (IPMAN) Ore depot, Mr Bayo Olowokere explained that most of the stations did not open for operation because they had no product to sell at the federal government’s regulated price of N86.50 per litre . “Again they are loading partially in all the depots, Ore, Mosinmi, Ibadan and Ejigbo. Most of these depot might not load for days and we are not having enough supply and this ha seen causing scarcity because the demand is higher than supply” He said most of the independent marketers were also buying from private depots across the country as a result of the insufficient supply of the product from the NNPC Depots. Abuja – The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, has said that there is no rift between the executive and legislative arm of government over the passage of the 2016 budget. Mohammed said this on Thursday when he paid a visit to the Corporate Headquarters of the Leadership Newspapers in Abuja. “On the passage of the budget, I want to clear the misconception. There is absolutely no rift between the executive arm of government and legislative arm of government. “It is not true that the president has refused to assent to the budget. The fact remains that it (budget) is not even before him. “The practice really is that when the budget is approved like that, there is what we call headline figure that is approved, then, it will take a few days for the National Assembly to throw up the details.’’ The minister said it was the original copy of budget that would be taken to the president after the necessary correction. He also said that there was no setback in the budget, adding that the Ministry of Budget and National Planning was working closely with the National Assembly to ensure hitch-free passage of the budget. The minister said that the signing of the budget by President Muhammadu Buhari would reflate the economy and uplift millions of Nigerians out of abject poverty. He said that the budget would focus on infrastructure development which would in turn create jobs for unemployed Nigerians and wealth for workers in the construction industry. “It is a budget of social inclusion. It is a budget that everybody is included’’. Mohammed said that there was N500 billion provision for social intervention programmes targeted at employing 500,000 graduates, to be trained as teachers and deployed to primary schools. He said the programmes also aimed at empowering 370,000 non-graduates such as artisans and technicians. “It targets at training one million people such as farmers, market women, traders and entrepreneurs as well as giving them loan to start off. “It aims at giving one meal to 4.5 million pupils from class 1 to 3 per day. It is also aimed at giving N5,000 to vulnerable Nigerians such as widows, aged people and disabled people in the rural areas.’’ The minister said the social intervention programmes also targeted at providing bursary and scholarship for students studying science, technology and engineering. hmmmm i think the PDP in even mature in there opposition unlike the APC when they were in opposition. Come to think of it the APC should be more concerned with the NO LIGHT, NO SECURITY, NO FUEL, NO FOREX, NO BUDGET issue not opposition issues for now. |

Don Jazzy this afternoon playfully (or maybe he wasn't playing? lol) flirted with a girl on Twitter, (pictured above) asking for her to follow him back so he could DM her...and it kinda went from there. Some found it extremely hilarious and others just weren't sure what to make of his tweets. See them after the cut... http://www..com/talk/topic,287161.0.html

BY ENYIM ENYIM ONITSHA – The Bishop of Niger West (Anglican Communion) in Anambra State, Rt Revd. Johnson Ekwe has picked holes with Nigerians who are attacking the Minister of State, Petroleum and Managing Director of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr. Ibe Kachichukwu over scarcity of Premium Motor Spirit in the country insisting the attack is misdirected. Ekwe who spoke to reporters shortly after dedicating a new church building donated, Thursday, to the Anglican Church of Umuatuolu-Umueri Community of Anambra East by some illustrious sons of the community led by Senator Emma Anosike said it was wrong to ask the minister to resign over lapses in the supply of fuel. This he said because President Buhari is the substantive minister of Petroleum from who Kachichukwu takes directives and should be held directly responsible. He also took swipes at the activities of Fulani herdsmen who while carrying sophisticated AK 47 rifles, maim, rape women, rob and destroy farm lands only to get shielded from Federal Security Agencies when the victims of their nefarious activities confront them. He cited a recent incident at Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu Satte where two women were raped and killed by the herdsmen who also destroyed their farm lands. But when confronted by the owners of the farm lands, the police at Zone 9 Umuahia ironically came and arrested about 76 farmers, adding that they were getting protection from the Federal Government. The Bishop said his worry and that of any sane Nigerian is that the activities of these herdsmen directly impinge on both national and international security and wondered who armed the herdsmen with such sophisticated weapons The whole thing borders on national security. Security of Nigerians. The country is becoming volatile. What we are talking about here is national and international security as it’s relates to cattle herdsmen. The question is, who has armed them with sophisticated weapons as AK47. “Some days ago they raped and killed two people in Awgu in Enugu State and when the people talked; they invited the police from Zone 9, Umuahia to protect them”, he said, adding that ironically when the policemen came they arrested 76 farmers from Awgu Community and let herdsmen go scot free. The Bishop also picked holes with the Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai for his discriminatory policies against Christians in his state and beckoned on the Federal Government to call him to order. He described the law made by the Kaduna State Government banning Christians from preaching or spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the state as obnoxious and sentimental, stressing that the Church is averse to religious bigotry. He further alleged that some churches had been marked for demolition in Kaduna State by the state government. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/03/fuel-scarcity-blame-buhari-not-kachikwu-bishop/ |
