How I wish PMB would swallow his pride and call her back to come and supervise the then largest Economy in Africa. What's our position now?
Politics / Okonjo-iweala To Speak At Mit’s 2016 Investiture Of Doctoral Hoods by Juve4(m): 3:17pm On Apr 26, 2016
Chancellor Cynthia Barnhart has announced that Nigeria’s former finance minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala will be the guest speaker at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, MIT’s 2016 Investiture of Doctoral Hoods. Okonjo-Iweala is an alumna of MIT, having done her MCP in the school, in 1978 and PhD in 1981.

“Dr. Okonjo-Iweala’s leadership on the complex global stage of economics and politics demonstrates the real-world impact of an informed and compassionate scholar. We are honored that she will return to MIT to share that vision of service with our doctoral candidates,” says Barnhart on the institution’s website. The Investiture of Doctoral Hoods ceremony, held the day before Commencement, featured a guest speaker for the first time last year. This new tradition solicits input from MIT faculty and doctoral students, with the aim to invite as guest speaker an MIT alum who can encourage and inspire students as they begin their new careers. “I’m thankful to the faculty and the student committee for their thoughtful recommendations,” says Eric Grimson, chancellor for academic advancement and chair of the Commencement Committee.

“This is truly a collaborative effort and I’m delighted that we will all have the privilege of hearing Dr. Okonjo-Iweala speak at such an important moment in the lives of our doctoral candidates.” Okonjo-Iweala was born in Nigeria and came of age in the late 1960s, enduring the fragmentation of her nation and the horror of civil war. Undeterred in her commitment to continuing her education, Okonjo-Iweala made her way to the United States, where she received her undergraduate degree at Harvard University. She did her graduate work at the Department of Urban Studies and Planning at MIT, receiving an MCP in 1978 and a PhD in regional economics and development in 1981.

After serving 21 years at the World Bank, first as a development economist and later as vice president and corporate secretary, Okonjo-Iweala became Nigeria’s minister of finance in 2003. During her three-year tenure, her influence was key to repositioning Nigeria as a nation in recovery, including initiating negotiations that ended in Western creditor nations acquiescing to cancel $30 billion of Nigerian debt. In December 2007, Okonjo-Iweala returned to the World Bank as managing director, the second-highest position in the organization. In that time, she oversaw the World Bank’s $81 billion operational portfolio in Africa, South Asia, Europe, and Central Asia, and led several World Bank initiatives to assist low-income countries during the 2008-2009 food crisis. In 2010 she successfully chaired the World Bank’s drive to raise $49.3 billion in grants and low-interest credit for the world’s poorest countries. In 2011, love and loyalty for her country called Okonjo-Iweala back to Nigeria, where she served as minister of finance and coordinating minister for the economy, wherein she was responsible for managing the finances of Africa’s largest economy. She left the position in 2015 and is currently a senior advisor at Lazard, a global financial advisory and asset management firm. She is also the chair of the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization.

Okonjo-Iweala has been ranked among the 50 greatest world leaders (Fortune, 2015) and the top 100 most influential people in the world (TIME, 2014). She was awarded the David Rockefeller Bridging Leadership Award in 2014 and the John T. Walker Distinguished Humanitarian Services Award in 2010. “Ngozi is a profound example of the way a leader can transform academic theory into tangible practical results, using knowledge to truly change nations,” says Professor Eran Ben-Joseph, head of the Department of Urban Studies and Planning. “We couldn’t ask for a better example of ‘mind and hand’ at work to inspire our students.”

The 2016 Investiture of Doctoral Hoods will take place on June 2 at 11 a.m. in the Johnson Athletics Center Ice Rink. The ceremony is open to family and friends of doctoral candidates; no tickets are required.

Romance / Would You Marry A Broke Man With Msc, Ph.d? – Renowned Psychologist Asks (pic) by Juve4(m): 6:27pm On Apr 25, 2016
As written by Psychologist Joroolumofin..read below;

I met a young qualified man some months ago and he expressed his dismay and disappointment at his inability to get married up till now even though he has been ready for the past 2 years, the challenge is that the women he would love to walk down the aisle with don’t want to touch him with a 10-footpole because he doesn’t have a car, takes a bus to work, jumps on okada(bike) often to get to work, makes less than 70,000 naira (300 dollars) a month” It’s such an irony and also very sad that there are a lot of young hardworking, bright ,qualified men out there who are ready to get married or settle down but are constantly overlooked and ignored because they don’t have some luxury or a certain type of lifestyle.

Education and bright ideas were golden in the time of our parents but now as a result western exposure, social media, Instagram Gratification, cable TV etc money ,cars, clothes ,current job title play a major role in finding a husband or boyfriend. Some ladies would rather date a man who has money and cheats on them then a man who is faithful but struggling. I recently heard of a lady who postponed her wedding because she didn’t want to get married in Ikeja because her friends don’t like crossing 3rd mainland bridge & thought her initial wedding venue was “random / basic” What happened to bright ideas? Ambition? Love? Sensitivity ? A lot of ladies today are single because if “AKIN” should approach them with his 70,000 salary and his bright ideas they would say God forbid bad thing my parents didn’t send me to school to settle for such a man. Substance lasts over material as history as always shown. Have reasonable standards and take chances
Will you date or marry Akin? ?

Politics / Power Crisis: Nigeria Lacks Gas To Generate 7,000MW —osinbajo by Juve4(m): 5:18pm On Apr 25, 2016
…As Energy Economists say PMS should sell at N120/l

By Michael Eboh

The Vice President of Nigeria, Mr. Yemi Osinbajo, on Monday, lamented that the country does not have sufficient gas to fire the country’s power plants to generate up to 7,000 megawatts (MW) of electricity.

This was even as the President of the Nigerian Association for Energy Economics, NAEE, Mr. Wumi Iledare, stated that in line with the current realities in the global petroleum industry and the foreign exchange rate, the price of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, also known as petrol, in the country should be about N120 per litre.

Osinbajo, who was speaking at the NAEE/International Association for Energy Economics, Annual International Conference 2016 in Abuja, expressed his disappointment in the fact that despite Nigeria’s enormous natural gas reserves of over 185 trillion cubic feet, the country is still faced with huge energy supply problems.

Osinbajo, who was represented by his Senior Special Assistant (Power and Privatisation), Chiedu Ugbo, said: “In fact, it is an irony, that we do not have sufficient gas to fire our power plants up to 7,000MW, yet in energy industry circles, Nigeria is described as more of a gas territory than an oil territory.”

He pointed out that presently, the country has over 12,500MW of installed electricity generating capacity, consisting of gas thermal and hydropower plants, stating of that capacity, about 7,000MW is available to be generated if the required fuel is available.

He, however, disclosed that in spite of the available capacity, power plants in the country, over the last couple of weeks, distributed less than 4,000MW of electricity to consumers across the country.

Osinbajo blamed the development on inadequate investment on gas facilities, gas flaring, inadequate gas infrastructure and vandalism among others.

He said, “We have limited gas molecules to supply to the power plants. This is a result of many years of under-investment in gas gathering and processing for domestic consumption and also many years of gas flaring. Nigeria alone flares about half of the 40 billion cubic meters of associated gas estimated to be flared in Africa annually.

To address the situation, Osinbajo disclosed that the Federal Government is aware that there is no alternative to electric energy for energizing and powering Nigeria’s economic growth and development; hence it is determined to resolve the challenges to achieving sustainable energy supply in the country.

“We are working tirelessly towards resolving the gas-to-power challenge, ensuring that the needed investment will be made in gas gathering and processing for domestic consumption especially for power plants and at the same time working to ensure sustainability of supply of existing gas volumes,” he noted.

Also speaking, Iledare stated that he does not see the low oil price as a disaster for Nigeria, stating that it offers the country the opportunity to adopt fiscal responsibility practices and reduce fiscal irresponsibility.

He further stated the low oil price allows the country to take advantage of the situation to allow prices in the sector to be determined at current international market price, while he recommended a PMS’ price of N120 per litre, stating that the Federal Government had no business regulating the sector.

He said managing the petroleum sector has become‎ elusive, adding that regulators should be autonomous and any regulation put forward should have the backing of the law.

He warned that it is fool-hardy for the country to perpetually develop oil and gas resources for cash, instead of for the basis of satisfying the country’s energy needs.

Romance / 'I Wasted A Whole Night Trying To Have Sex With You' (picture) by Juve4(m): 6:19pm On Apr 23, 2016
Wonders shall never end.

Man put screenshots of the shocking messages on Imgur, last night
Female is seen to say that 'no means no' only works for women
Suggests man had no right to turn down the opportunity to sleep with her
Many people commented to say they were 'disgusted' by her behaviour

A man received a barrage of abuse over texts after refusing to sleep with a woman during a date.
The screenshots of the messages, which were posted to image sharing site Imgur last night, show the man's female date initiate conversation before launching into an angry rant.
The unnamed woman even goes so far as to suggest that her date had no right to turn down the opportunity to sleep with her, asking him whether he was gay and telling him no only means no when a woman says it.

'Can I ask you something?' the woman says.
Once her unnamed date from the the night before agrees she continues. 'Why didn't we have sex last night?'
The rational man writes, 'I'm not really sure. Just didn't feel like it. That bad?'
It seems as though, according to the woman, it certainly is bad, as she goes on to send some foul-mouthed messages.
'It kind of ****** me off because I took a good 2 [sic] hours out of my time to get all ready, shave my legs, and what not... I'm actually super ******* ****** I wasted 2 hours of my time getting ready for nothing.'

The confused woman goes on to add, 'I literally kept giving you hints and was trying all night.'
However, the man stands his ground and replies: 'I just didn't want to. Sorry bout it lol. What's the big deal, it's just sex [sic].'
But the woman just can't accept no for an answer and loses her cool completely at his response, as she writes: 'The big deal is I wasted 2 [sic] hours...Okay **** that a whole night trying to have sex with you and you just 'didn't want to.'
'Like what's the issue? Are you actually gay and lying? Am I that ******* hideous? Not that ******* hard to whip your **** out'

And she even argues with the man's protestations of 'no means no' as she claims that the anti-rape catchphrase only has significance when she uses it.
However, the man still manages to keep his composure and cooly answers the message, calling the woman 'hypocritical' and repeatedly telling her that he 'didn't need reasons' to not want to have sex with her.
He also sarcastically remarked: 'Rape is only rape for women, got it.'

Taking the comment seriously and without any explanation, the woman replies: 'Basically.'
The conversation has already received a lot of attention online and 1125 people took to Imgur to comment on the photos.
Most wanted to voice their disgust at the woman's behaviour.
Leprekon89, said: 'Just like women don't owe men sex, men don't owe women sex. Period. No exceptions.
Rachhieex addeed: '"No means no when I say it" what the **** is wrong with people.'
And even other women struggled to see things from the unnamed female's point of view.
This was shown as, Ilovellamasmlemmlem said: 'As a female, it disgusts me that any woman would act like this.
'We are not all like her! No means no, whether you are male or female!'
Sakoray agreed: 'As a woman, I'm very disgusted by this girls behavior! I man has EVERY right to turn down sex without a 'valid reason' NO MEANS NO! [sic]'

Politics / POB Spits Fire, Describes ACF Group As Clueless, Misinformed by Juve4(m): 3:23pm On Apr 18, 2016
By Chimaobi Nwaiwu. Nnewi – The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has condemned the alleged statements credited to the Arewa Consultative Forum, ACF, asking President Muhammadu Buhari to use the full weight of the law to crush IPOB and other similar groups agitating for freedom and cessation in Nigeria, saying that they have shown lack of understanding of what actualization of sovereign state of Biafra is all about.

IPOB in a statement signed by its Media and Publicity Officer Mr Emma Powerful described ACF as “a group of clueless and misinformed old wicked men and women who are keeping quiet while the present administration lacked understanding of what governance is all about and has in the process subjected the country into untold hardship, caused by high cost of petroleum products, lack of electricity and bad economic management”.

“They lack understanding of what is happening now about the restoration of Biafra, all they know is how to displayed wickedness and the hatred they have against the people of Biafra, but they forgot that Biafra is a spirit no man born of a woman or forum and organization can defeat. “Again, ACF should remember that during the time of Nigeria Independent, Biafrans like Mazi Mbonu Ejike, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, Dr. Michael Okpara, Dr. Akanu Ibiam, Margaret Ekpo and others were at the forefront of the struggle for the independent of Nigeria, these great individuals were all Biafra, where was your vision when these individuals were fighting for independence of Nigeria you are today claiming to be your property.

Politics / We Stand With Nigeria In Battle Against Boko Haram –UK by Juve4(m): 5:09pm On Apr 16, 2016
The United Kingdom (UK) says it is supporting Nigeria in the ongoing war against the Boko Haram insurgents.

UK Minister for International Development, Nick Hurd, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that UK had a very long cordial relationship with Nigeria.

“The very long partnership between UK and Nigeria matters a great deal to us; even my Prime Minister has made it very clear that we stand shoulder to shoulder with Nigeria in the battle against Boko Haram.

“We understand how many thousands and millions of peoples’ lives have been devastated by the atrocities in the North East.

“We are determined to help our own friend and partner to defeat that barbaric group,’’ he said.

Hurd said at the moment, the UK’s support took the form of a big commitment to training and capacity building in the military.

He said that his country was pleased with the successes so far recorded by the military against Boko Haram insurgents recently.

On the kidnapped Chibok schoolgirls, Hurd said UK was always supportive of the determination to ensure the safe return of the girls but challenged Nigeria to lead the girls’ rescue.

“My Prime Minister, the British Government and the British people are fully supportive of the determination to bring the girls home.

“They have empathy with that but this (rescue) needs to be led by the Nigerian government, there has to be a Nigerian solution to this.
“I made it clear to the Vice-President that we will help but we are going to follow a Nigerian lead,’’ he said.

On a report that the UK knew the whereabouts of the girls, Hurd said: “My information is constrained by the fact that I’m International Development Minister. “I’m not into greater deal into the military intelligence cooperation. I don’t have a full answer to that question.’’

On the humanitarian assistance, the envoy said that UK was increasing its commitment with another 33 million pounds.

He said the increased fund was informed by the assessment that was carried out about the needs in the north eastern part of the country which were around nutrition, food and protection.

He said UK was interested about the stability and real development of the region and called on the international community to be more effective in its response.
