Lurker4Long:The Sea Axe is only used commercially by Damen, most other builders are still using conventional designs. I don't see many shipbuilders adopting this design now or in the future. In fact the hull design by fincantieri seems more viable. I don't like small crafts, I prefer ships that are 50 meters and above. Especially when locally built, the pure satisfaction. Anyway, this new ship gives South-African defence watchers something to cheer about, considering this is the first major military purchase in many years.

Lurker4Long:That Ship is a small corvette. It's gratifying to see a locally built ship of this size. Although personally, I don't like the design, I would have much preferred a conventional design. |
bidexiii:Yeah, I don't like the desert cammo, it looks too simplistic. Infact I don't like aircrafts in desert cammo, they always look unassuming, dull and without purpose. |
bidexiii:For me, I prefer the woodland cammo. |

One of the 3 new inshore patrol vessels constructed for Project Biro. Three of these vessels are being built for R1.5 billion. Based on the Stan 6211 design the basic specs are 62m length, a top speed of 30 knots, and a crew complement of 48. I think the chosen main armament is a 20mm remote-controlled cannon by Denel. The first ship will be commissioned this year.

LTGEN:It's for Africa Intelligence to prove their story, it's not for the Nigerian Air Force/Leonardo to confirm or deny the report. As it seems, this is fake news. I don't see how the Nigerian Air Force would be given 1.2 billion dollars, after collecting nearly 500 million dollars for aircrafts. Besides they would need Senate approval(which hasn't happened) for such a purchase. |
Odunayaw:Top Italian defence company Leonardo has won a €1.2bn order for 24 M-346 FA light attack aircraft for the Nigeran Air Force. Nigerian security company SecPro Africa will provide the ammunition for the new aircraft. https://www.africaintelligence.com/central-and-west-africa_business/2021/03/23/nigerian-air-force-to-pay-more-than-e1bn-for-24-leonardo-fighter-aircraft,109652327-eve |
kabe1:This has been confirmed as FAKE NEWS. Kindly disregard this news report!!!

Lionel4power and Defense news Nigeria should stop posting figments of their wild imaginations and posting it as news. Don't carry your Nairaland lifestyle to Twitter. |
fabselad:DISCLAIMER Re: NORICO UNDER FIRE FOR SUPPLYING INFERIOR ARMOURED VEHICLES TO NIGERIA The attention of the Nigerian Army has been drawn to a story with the referenced headline which was authored by one Ekene Lionel and published in AfricanMilitary blog on the 19th of March, 2021. Let it be known that the entirety of the said story is the figment of imagination of the author as the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Ibrahim Attahiru, did not at any time or in any event make any comment nor had any interview on the subject either with the author or anybody for that matter. The story is therefore false, misleading and a deliberate fabrication ostensibly published to serve a yet to be determined motive. Whatever the motive is, we consider this publication as not only unprofessional but very unfair to the Chief of Army Staff. We therefore demand from the publishers of African military blog, immediate retraction of the concocted story as it runs against the grain of professional journalism to willfully and wrongfully attribute a story to an unsuspecting party. Even as the Nigerian Army under the leadership of Lt Gen Ibrahim Attahiru recognizes and appreciates the indispensability of partnership with the media in the quest for a secured, peaceful and progressive Nigeria, it is advisable that professionalism must guide the conduct of media practitioners. Thank you. Mohammed Yerima Brigadier General Director Army Public Relations 20 March, 2021

Whyem15:Funny how someone on Jakeporesheko's handle on twitter is claiming Nigeria bought 100 Marauder MRAPs. ![]() The brazen attitude with which some Nigerians tell open lies is incredible!! How do we grow as a nation when people always openly defend absurdities? ". |
shadowprimezero:I doubt if the money is there, what we continue to see is a pattern of piecemeal procurement of military equipment right from the days of Yar'adua to this administration of Buhari. Seems to be an established pattern. I don't see, how things would change under the new service chiefs. We went from between 25-40 JF-17s to 3. From T-129s from Turkey to Tucanos from Brazil to now M-346 from Italy. Military procurements continue to be atrocious. All the new articles on the M-346 get their stories from the same source, Africa Intelligence. As it seems nobody has read the full Africa Intelligence news report. They are all speculating and running away with the headline and first sentence from Africa Intelligence. |
Toju200:That's the equipment delivered in the year under review, 2020. It does not include 2021. You're repeating the items already mentioned by SIPRI, apart from Lana and the C-falcon boats. |
Whyem15:Successive governments I think don't consider security to be a serious issue since it's taking place in the very poor and underdeveloped north east. That's the only explanation I can see. |
iblawi:They added the MPA from Bird though. Although I understand you. |
mekussa:I couldn't have said it any better even if I wanted to. Aptly stated. |
tutudesz:That's a country that is serious about security. What about 926 units of Fuch 2 Armoured Personnel Carriers. Including 30 new state of the art fighter jets. |
shadowprimezero:The Nigerian army continues to be severely underfunded despite successive governments coming into power. We are talking since Yar'adua, I mean it is wrong for anyone to ask the army to give what they don't have. Procurement history of Nigeria is abysmal, we seem really satisfied buying in single digits. This is also reason I doubt the 24 units M-346 Africa Intelligence story. Also it's hard to believe speculators like on twitter like Beegeagle when the actual facts state a totally different story. |
Algeria - 4 units DWL-002 Air Search System - 100 units Red Arrow-12 Anti-Tank missile - 1 Pattani class OPV (96 meters Corvette) - 10 FPB-98 Patrol Craft - 926 units of Fuchs-2 APC - 1 MCMV-2010 mine hunter ship - 3500 units of ATAKA missiles - 300 units of BMPT Terminator Armoured Fighting Vehicle - 14 units of MIG-29m Fighter Jets - 16 units of SU-30MK Fighter Jets - 5 units Yahbon Flash 20 UCAV - 5 units Yahbon Flash 40 UCAV |
mekussa:I will post for Algeria, then you'll really see how shameful it is. |
bidexiii:Very, very poor. Not even up to 10 PCs of each. Utterly disastrous. |
iblawi:On Sipri the AW-139 delivered to Nigerian navy is missing, also the 3 helicopters for Nimasa/navy are also missing. Although the CJ3 maritime patrol aircraft was mentioned. |
shadowprimezero:Use your computer, not your phone. Generate trade register. https://armstrade.sipri.org/armstrade/page/trade_register.php |
According to Sipri arms transfer for 2021, Nigeria received/ will receive the following; - 12 Super Tucanos - 3 SH-2 (122mm) - 2 SH-5 (105mm) - 6 units of VT4 - 6 units of ZTL-09 - 2 CH-3 - 4 CH-4 - 2 Wing Loong-2 - 2 FPB-100 - 1 FPB-72 - 6 A109k ( 4 delivered) - 2 FCS-3307 - 1 LST-100 - 3 JF-17 Thunder - 300 9M114 Anti-Tank missiles for MI-35M - 12 units of MI-35M (7 units delivered) - 3 units of Marauder MRAPs - 5 units of KLTV-181 - 8 units of Phantom-2 - 2 units of Citation-3 maritime patrol aircraft - 400 units of APKWS anti tank missiles for Tucano - 2 units MI-17 I find the acquisition to be quite underwhelming and uninspiring, especially for the Nigerian army. We pick one here and we pick one there. Notably missing is NNS Lana, and the C-falcon boats. |
