Lurker4Long: I wish. Dude was infinitely more articulate than I. Stop hiding behind a veil. Your contributions are and always have been invaluable. I agree with a number of assessments of the Nigerian military, most people including myself are stuck in the golden ages of the 80's and 90's of the Nigerian army especially. Fact is the army is a shadow of it's self. A number of security watchers on twitter now masturbate on a speech of the COAS and not actual security improvements on the ground. That's where we are right now. |

Lurker4Long: When I observed that most NA vehicles do not appear to have radio antennas, I was pilloried by some here. The friendly fire incident that resulted in 2 STTEP contractors losing their lives was because there were no radios to communicate their approach.
More recently, a terrorist convoy disguised as NA got close enough because there were no radios to communicate and distinguish friend from foe.(standard operating procedures demand a password which is changed daily so that base security is not taken by surprise; without this basic logistic component...)
With inadequate NA ->NA comms, what hope for NA ->NAF comms?
But, wetin concern me? Somehow nobody can make observations until their own house is in perfect order, according to some here. You are @Frumentius, the SA soldier who served/serves in DRC. There is no doubt about that. There was no need changing your moniker. |

fabselad: Which ukraine are you talking about. The one in 2021 or 2014. Most takes of the ukrainian army uses oplot-m tanks, where did the nigerian army bought the btr-4 from? Are you serious. The readiness of the ukrainian army presently is far better than what it was in 2021. As for the ukrainian airforce, most of their aircraft are maintained and upgraded by the ukrainian defense industry. And please also know the mass of russian army still use the t-72mb3 which is an upgrade from the basic t-72. Only elite units in the russian armed forces use the t-90 and not even the modernized t-90ms which india is buying. Yeah Russia is a force to reckon with but don't underestimate the ukrainians. Ukrainian army only has 150 units of Oplot M, the bulk of Ukraine army tank consists of T-62's. The Ukrainian Air Force is practically nonexistent, consisting of very old MIG-29s, SU-27 and SU-25 fighter jets. The T-72B3 is considered to be one of the world's best tank, taking into account cost, production, firepower and quantity. Russia has the world's second largest military. |

fabselad: I don't think It would be that easy for Russia to sweep easily Ukraine aside. Yeah, Ukraine would be defeated in a conflict with Russia but it won't be an easy defeat and Russia would have a lot to lose in such a conflict. Remember if the Ukrainian army isn't that of 2014 and if Russia had not intervened, Ukraine would have crushed those separatists by now. Russia would simply brush the Ukrainian army aside. If you follow trends in Russian military modernization you won't be talking like this. |

giles14: I really pity ukraine even with full nato and uncle sam support if they should escalate , russia is gonna give them a real bloody nose. Apparently Russian has given passports to 400,000 people in the Eastern part of Ukraine. Russia would decimate them if the launch a full scale operation. Russia would also not allow Ukraine join NATO. |

Lurker4Long: The BDF's continuing modernisation is impressive. Tanks and helicopters are next. Rumour has it the fighter jet acquisition will also be restarted, this time with a competition between SAAB Gripen C vs KAI F-50. Looking at initial purchase and operating cost, I'm more inclined to think the FA-50 would be their most preferred choice. |

marvin906: Kabe1 would you prefer the NN getting some meko 360 instead of frigates.. Note. In my opinion the meko 360 is closer to destroyer that's why I didn't call it a frigate.. My opinion Meko 360 is a Frigate. I'll prefer we buy ships that we can operate. |

marvin906: 3 frigates and 2 or three corvettes all missile capable .. I strongly suggest we reverse engineer the aradu.. It can't just go to waste like that Aradu isn't going to waste, it would be repurposed as an OPVs, however we don't know when. For me I think we Nigeria needs 1 Frigate, 2 Corvettes and 6 missile boats (60 meters). |

iblawi: Demand is very high in the field and just 2 companies can't meet up.
Big foot seems to have performed well and really getting huge order. Your demand can't be very high if you only buy 10 units. Let me remind you, Chad bought 100 units. We have no proof to suggest NA has bought additional MRAPs from China. |

Foreign Affairs › Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by kabe1: 9:43pm On Apr 09, 2021 |
marvin906: Please emphasize. Aradu can't shoot a missle now because of its obsolete systems or it just can't shoot missles Aradu used to be a world class frigate, but not anymore. All it's missile systems are obsolete and inoperable. It's mechanical systems are bad, due to leakage hence the extensive work which was recently done at the Naval Dockyard. Nigeria does not currently have a missile capable ship, we need to return our missile capability but I don't see that happening right now. We can do with 2 more OPVs and at least 3 missile boats. |

Gentlelord: Definitely they will know more about what you just highlighted, probably they didn't want to disseminate the whole information just yet.
I will also say the new CAS has been poor in PR. Didn't he learn anything from Sadique rtd. I expect him to release some bombardment footages before the end of next week to boost our moral According to the Chief of Naval Staff, all the service chiefs and CDS agreed that all the talking should be done on the battlefield and not in the media. This is the new strategy they have decided to pursue hence the lack of battlefield videos & pictures. Wars are won in the battlefield and in the media, so this talk of reducing battlefield footages is not an effective strategy and this is the fact. |
