marvin906:The F-35 is currently the most advanced fighter jet, more advanced than the F-22. Countries build fighter jets according to their military doctrine, so it's difficult to say one plane is better than the other in the real sense. Especially when referring to aircrafts in a similar class. SU-57 has 4 X band AESA radars, and 6 L band AESA radars. |
marvin906:We have clear enemies, BHT, ISWAP, Bandits and we have built our defensive posture around these clear threats. The combat radius of an alpha jet is over 600km. |
Raaven:Beautiful aircraft. How is it going to be used in the Algerian air force? How many MIG-29s are currently in service? |
Raaven:
|
marvin906:It's a really capable aircraft, much better in many areas than the F-22 & F-35. |
marvin906:Because the JF-17 is based off the J-10. It's a really capable aircraft, and we don't need deep strike aircrafts as the J-10 would be able to reach every part of Nigeria from makurdi. Flanker derivatives from China are also not for export. |
youghs:The J-10 wasn't for export at the time. The Chinese were, still are not vigorously offering the J-10 for export, for almost all air shows the Chinese only exhibited the JF-17 and a host of other lead-in fighter trainers. Besides, NAF posture seems like they mostly needed helicopters, Tucanos and Drones. |
Salatavor:If you can do better, I'm sure the people in government, the military would be glad to hear your ideas. |

NAF HOLDS FLY-OUT PARADE IN HONOUR OF IMMEDIATE PAST CHIEF OF THE AIR STAFF, AIR MARSHAL SADIQUE ABUBAKAR As part of activities to mark the handing over of the mantle of leadership between the 20th Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and the 21st CAS, the NAF today, 2 February 2021, held a colourful Fly-Out Parade at the NAF Base in Abuja to honour Air Marshal Sadique Abubarkar (Retired) to mark his final exit from the Service. During the event, the erstwhile CAS urged personnel of the NAF to remain steadfast in the fight to return peace to troubled parts of the country whilst charging them to continue to give their best in service to the Nation. Speaking further, Air Marshal Abubakar expressed confidence in the abilities of the new CAS, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Oladayo Amao, to take the NAF to even greater heights. He urged the new CAS to endeavour to sustain the capacity building initiatives that had been emplaced over the last 5 years by his Administration. According to him, “In the last 5 years, we have been able to restructure and reposition the NAF into a highly professional and disciplined force. The NAF flag is today flying high from Agatu to Gembu as well as to Gusau, Katsina, Daura, Owerri, Birnin Gwari, Ipetu-Ijesha, Kerang, Gombe and Bauchi”. The former CAS added that the current structures would certainly add a lot of value to NAF’s efforts at securing Nigeria and the Nigerian people. He also expressed confidence that, with the imminent arrival of 15 additional aircraft and 8 Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicles (UCAVs), the Service would be better positioned to be more decisive in addressing the security challenges facing the Nation. Air Marshal Abubakar emphasized that the NAF would be able to employ air power more effectively, efficiently and timely in all theatres of operations across the Country. While recounting some of his achievements, the former CAS highlighted that the Service through capacity building initiatives has trained and winged 133 pilots, who, he said, constitute 49% of all active NAF pilots that are fighting in different theatres of conflicts to secure the Country. He noted that an additional 21 pilots would be completing their training before the end of the First Quarter of 2021 to join their comrades in the fight to defend the territorial integrity and National sovereignty. Air Marshal Abubakar also disclosed that, while in office, he had successfully executed a programme to bridge the gap between force projection and force protection; since, as he said, the Service cannot effectively project air power if it does not have the means to properly protect its bases, air assets and aircrew. In the area of Research and Development, Air Marshal Abubakar disclosed that the NAF has entered into partnership with 15 Nigerian universities, that, he said, have continued to contribute significantly to addressing some of the NAF’s aircraft maintenance challenges. He expressed satisfaction on exiting the NAF having substantially achieved his set goals. He therefore thanked the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari, members of the National Assembly, particularly the Senate and House Committees on the Air Force, as well as Officers, Airmen and Airwomen of the Service for their support in ensuring that the NAF got elevated to a much higher level than what he met. Highlight of the ceremony, which featured the review of the parade by the immediate past CAS as the 2 Guards and the Colour Party marched past in slow and quick time, was the flying-out of the former CAS and his wife, Hajiya Hafsat Sadique Abubakar, onboard a NAF Bell 412 Helicopter. Among the dignitaries at event were the Deputy Chairman House Committee on Air Force, Honourable Abbas Adigun; the Honourable Minister of Defence, Major General Bashir Magashi (Retired); the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Major General Ibrahim Attahiru; as well as the Representatives of the Chief of Defence Staff and the Chief of the Naval Staff. Also present were former Chiefs of Defence and Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Oluseyi Petinrin and AVM Femi John Femi (Retired); the Chief of Defence Intelligence, AVM Mohammed Usman, Director Air Force Ministry of Defence, Mr Ashibel Peter Utsu; the National President of Nigerian Air Force Officers’ Wives Association (NAFOWA), Mrs Elizabeth Olubunmi Amao; as well as Branch Chiefs from Defence Headquarters and HQ NAF; Commandants of Tri-Service and NAF Institutions; Air Officers Commanding of the 6 NAF Commands, along with many other serving and retired senior military officers. Speaking on manpower development, he noted that due to the critical personnel requirements for the effective projection of Air Power, about 133 pilots had been trained and winged under his watch. This, he said, represented “about 49 per cent of the total active pilots conducting air operations to defend Nigeria today”.

I LEFT NIGERIAN ARMY BETTER THAN I MET IT — GENERAL BURATAI The immediate past Chief of Army Staff, retired Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, says he left the Nigerian Army better than he met. He said that the army under his watch had achieved tremendous feat in the fight against insurgency and other security threats in the country. He added that he ensured adequate training of personnel and enhancement of war fare capabilities of the army as well as prioritisation of personnel welfare. “Today is a day of appreciation and not a stocktaking, but let me put on record that I left Nigerian Army better than I met it. “The Nigerian Army under my leadership was able to achieve great feat in the fight against insurgency in the country. “We have been experiencing pockets of threats here and there, but I can confidently say that no part of Nigeria is ceded to any terrorist group or criminals. “The counter insurgency operation is a warfare new to Nigerian Army but over time, we have continued to device means of tackling the ever evolving dynamic nature of the threats in the country. “The Nigerian Army has remained resolute in the discharge of its roles as enshrined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. “I urge you all to continue to rise to the occasion,” he said. Buratai said that while it was always necessary to say goodbye at a point in life, he said it was not easy to find the right word to say goodbye to the courageous and dedicated team that worked with him. He said that Nigerian Army also made giant strides in infrastructure development across the country. Buratai commended the officers and soldiers of Nigerian Army for their dedication and loyalty, which he said assisted him to achieve so much in office. The former COAS also thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for the opportunity to serve the country as well as providing an enabling environment for him to succeed. He also commended the effort of the government of Borno in the war against insurgency, assuring that the war would soon be a thing of the past. He urged politicians to always leave military out of politics, adding that the country needed politicians who are statesmen to support the military in addressing the prevailing security challenges. According to him, there is no gain saying that there cannot be development without security and lack of development breeds insecurity. He solicited support for the new Chief of Army Staff, Maj.-Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, to be able to deliver on his mandate. AVM OLADAYO AMAO TAKES OVER AS 21st CAS, ASSURES NIGERIANS OF COMMITMENT TO INTERNAL SECURITY The newly appointed Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Oladayo Amao, has assured Nigerians that the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), in synergy with sister Services and other security agencies, would do its best to provide the support and security necessary for the Nation’s development, whilst sparing no effort in discharging its constitutional responsibilities to the Government and law-abiding citizens of the Country. The CAS stated this today, 29 January 2021, during a brief, but colourful handing and taking over ceremony held at Headquarters NAF (HQ NAF), Abuja. AVM Amao, who was appointed as the 21st CAS on 26 January 2021, noted that the NAF would sustainably and effectively employ Air Power in the protection of Nigeria's people and interests, against all enemies of the State. Speaking further, AVM Amao, disclosed that the NAF had recorded tremendous successes in the past few years, especially in enhancing the Service’s operational efficiency and the welfare of its personnel. “I assure the out-going CAS that we would work hard to maintain his records while hoping to attain greater heights”, the CAS said. AVM Amao stated that his appointment was a challenge and call to national duty, especially at this crucial stage in Nigeria’s development, which he had accepted with utmost humility. He further noted that, though bedeviled by various forms of insecurity in the country, ranging from the Boko Haram insurgency/terrorism in the North East to the criminal activities of pipeline vandals, crude oil thieves, sea robbers and militants in the South, the Nation was also facing increasing threats from kidnappers, cattle rustlers and militarised herdsmen. He restated the NAF’s resolve to bring such threats to an end in order to ensure that the Nation is safe and economically attractive. He said the NAF will continue to do its best possible by leveraging credible partnerships, focusing on enhancing professionalism for high performance as well as motivational initiatives to create an enabling environment for its operations and personnel to thrive. He therefore charged all officers, airmen and airwomen of the NAF to give their best by exhibiting unparalleled professionalism, patriotism and ingenuity to ensure the security of the Country. The CAS thanked the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (C-in-C), President Muhammadu Buhari, for the honour and rare privilege offered to him to serve the Country in this capacity. He therefore pledged his unalloyed loyalty and that of the NAF to the Nigerian Government and people. The new CAS also appreciated members of the Ninth National Assembly for the support given to his predecessor. “I recognise the importance of the National Assembly’s support to the effectiveness and efficiency of our operations towards meeting the daunting tasks ahead. Thus, I solicit for your continued support as we work together for our common goals”, he added. AVM Oladayo Amao also appreciated officers, airmen and airwomen of the Service for the support given to his predecessor without which, he noted, many of the successes recorded would not have been possible. He implored them to extend the same support to his Administration as it opens a new chapter in the NAF’s history. “It is my fervent belief that together we shall lift the NAF to even greater heights in the service of our fatherland”, he said. AVM Oladayo, while congratulating his predecessor, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, on the momentous achievements recorded during his tenure, especially in steering the NAF through the difficult fight against insurgency, described the outgoing CAS as one of the finest gentlemen ever as well as an astute leader and achiever par-excellence. The new CAS ended his remarks by again pledging the unflinching loyalty of all NAF personnel to the C-in-C, whilst further restating that the Service remains “Willing, Able, Ready”, to meet the demands of Nigeria’s national defence and security imperatives. Earlier in his remarks, the former CAS, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, noted that at the outset of his five years, six months and thirteen days in Office, his vision was to reposition the NAF into a highly professional and disciplined force which was clearly defined through capacity building initiatives to ensure effectiveness, efficiency and timeliness in the employment of Air Power to address the security challenges facing the country. He expressed satisfaction that he had not only restructured the Service substantially, with the expansion of its structure and recruitment of about 10,000 additional personnel, but that the Service had also embarked on massive air operations in different parts of the Country; especially in the North East, North Central and the North West. Air Marshal Abubakar disclosed that in the North East alone, the NAF flew over 37,000 hours of air operations. Speaking on manpower development, he noted that due to the critical personnel requirements for the effective projection of Air Power, about 133 pilots had been trained and winged under his watch. This, he said, represented “about 49 per cent of the total active pilots conducting air operations to defend Nigeria today”. Air Marshal Abubakar also disclosed that, while in office, he embarked on an elaborate effort to bridge the gap between force projection and force protection. This had been premised on the fact that Air Power cannot be effectively projected when there are no proper means to protect the bases, air assets and air crew. In the area of Research and Development, he disclosed that the NAF, under his leadership, entered into Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with 15 Nigerian universities, which have continued to contribute significantly to addressing some of the aircraft maintenance challenges facing the Service. He also noted that, while building the human resource base of the NAF, concerted efforts were also made to significantly address personnel welfare issues with the provision of new, as well as upgrade of existing, accommodation, medical and educational facilities in NAF units across the Country. While expressing confidence in the abilities of AVM Amao, Air Marshal Abubakar noted that the new CAS had played very crucial roles in ensuring that the NAF attained its present status. According to him, “he was here as Director of Operations and later as Chief of Training and Operations. He also served as Air Officer Commanding Tactical Air Command and as Chief of Policy and Plans here at HQ NAF before he moved to the Armed Forces Resettlement Centre, Oshodi as Commandant. I am very confident, that you have all it takes to move the Air Force to a much higher level than you met it. My prayers are with you and my prayers are with all the officers, airmen and airwomen of the NAF.” Air Marshal Abubakar further thanked the C-in-C, President Muhammadu Buhari, for giving him the opportunity to add value to what he inherited from his predecessor in 2015. He also expressed his gratitude to members of the National Assembly, particularly the Senate and House Committees on the Air Force, as well as officers, airmen and airwomen of the Service who, he said, stood by him to ensure that the NAF moves to a much higher level. Air Marshal Abubakar also thanked members of his family, especially his aged mother, for their support, remarking that he was leaving the NAF ‘a fulfilled man’. As customary, the colourful ceremony featured Inspection of the Quarter Guard by the incoming and outgoing CAS on arrival at HQ NAF Complex as well as the laying of wreath by the new CAS at the HQ NAF Memorial Arcade. Other highlights of the event included the signing of the handing/taking over notes and the handing/taking over of NAF colours. The event was climaxed with the Changing of the Guard ceremony and lowering/hoisting of NAF flag in front of the HQ NAF Complex, which symbolized the end of one era and the beginning of another. In attendance at the event were the HQ NAF Branch Chiefs and other Senior NAF Officers. Nemesis2you:You're free to do as you see fit, glad to have you come around. News on LCA, new pictures on LCA would be more than welcome. |
Nemesis2you:Uncle Nemesis, why did you do us like this? |
seankafor:China consistently delivers good quality products, look at our CS-VP3 MRAPs for example, still going strong in the North East, while the likes of the Reva MRAP has since been garbaged. China didn't become the 3rd largest exporter of defence equipment by chance. I also like how their military systems seem like a fusion of Western and Russian designs. You get the best of both world's. In the time Nigeria started building SDB3, China has built 1 aircraft carrier, 3 LHDs, 18 Destroyers and Frigates including those for export ![]() Really impressive. |
China's industrial output is very amazing. It's incredible what the Chinese are able to achieve, still very far from the US interms of quantitative output but clear of every one else, especially when we're talking about naval systems.
