South African army plagued by setbacks in Cabo Delgado The SADC intervention force in northern Mozambique, to which South Africa is the main contributor, has suffered a series of setbacks, including logistical snafus, lack of intelligence gathering, and poor coordination with Rwandan and Mozambican troops. https://www.africaintelligence.com/southern-africa-and-islands/2022/10/12/south-african-army-plagued-by-setbacks-in-cabo-delgado,109834052-eve

In the area of Air assets, Nigeria continues to prioritize capability development in tackling COIN and LICW threats as it should. When inducted into service the M-346F/A which is an excellent LIFT aircraft with very modern attack capabilities will naturally replace the Alpha jets which have served the Nigerian Air Force for over 45 years. Infact, we no longer see much of the Alpha Jets. The A-29ST, L-39s and UCAVs have been doing most of the heavy lifting. On the Attack helicopter side, while the MI-35M has delivered and surpassed Nigerian Air Force expectations, I fear for the long term maintenance and operations of that asset. Nigeria continues to invest in the right areas and in capabilities that are functional instead of luxurious as we have seen in other climes. That's why I think the next line of air procurement for the Nigerian Air Force would be Transport Aircrafts. Nigerian C-130s are ageing fast, our G-222's are at this point decommissioned. We need to get in replacements for them, I would say 5 x units of C-130J aircrafts should be enough for our requirements, throw in 3 x units of C-27J Spartan and we are good. |
Nigerian Air Force has taken delivery of 10 x units of upgraded Chengdu F-7 multi-role fighter jets from China. 2 x units were upgraded in Nigeria 10 x units were sent to China. Full complement of 12 x units of F-7s are now active. Nigeria's Air Defense air assets consists of 15 air interdiction aircrafts, 12 x F-7s and 3 x JF-17s.

In an official statement released yesterday, Textron Systems announced the first operational flight of its Aerosonde Unmanned Air System (UAS) for the Nigerian Army. The delivery of multiple UAS will be a major boost to the Nigerian Army’s ISR capabilities.

iblawi:I don't think the Nigerian army is getting any Attack helicopters for now. I thought we would have ordered more VT-4 Tanks by now. I would think that more main battle tanks, artillery and IFVs should be Nigerian army priorities. |
Only lunatics and mentally disturbed people can't decide on a cause of action. You want Biafra and you want Nigerian presidency, how? ![]() |

kikuyu1:How many Special Forces units does Ukraine have fighting in it's war against Russia? Many people here are more interested in names, titles and paper qualifications much more than the effectiveness of the units in actual fighting. |
Exnavyboy62:No update on the NA pilots training in India. I also don't think the training in India is specifically on the Chetak aircraft, it's a general pilot training they are undergoing in India. The NA is standing up an aviation unit after so many years of trying, starting off with the Bell UH1D is not bad, it could have been better, but improving pilot proficiency and competence on an aircraft that is readily employable is a decent place to start. NASENI doesn't seem like a serious government agency, I don't take any reports from them seriously. |
Toju200:Thought as much. |

Nigerian army procurement also not bad.
