The commitment of the government to fix security in Nigeria is incredible.
Imagine if we saw these investments during the time of former President GEJ.
Where would we have been today.
Just incredible!!!
We need to keep churning out the pilots. |

MAN1960: TH cheif of air staff while delivering a speech at the Nigerian Air Force seminar said that the Air Force will be taking delivery of attack helicopters in December.
Amao, who made the disclosure on Thursday during the two-day Force operation seminar with the theme: ‘Harnessing Nigerian Air Force Combat Experience in Joint Military Operations for Doctrinal Development,’ held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital, said the aircrafts would boost the Nigerian air power employment and projection capabilities as well as air combat training.
He listed the new aircraft platforms being expected to include: two Agusta 109 Trekker multi-role helicopters, two Beechcraft King Air 360, four Diamond DA-62 surveillance aircraft, three Wing Loong II UCAVs and six T-129 ATAK helicopters.
Others include: two CASA-295 medium airlift/surveillance aircraft, 12 AH-1Z attack helicopters, and 24 M-346 attack aircraft.
According to the Chief of Air Staff, “Under Mr President’s able leadership, the Federal Government has, since 2015, acquired 38 new aircraft to boost training and combat readiness of the NAF. Excellent choice all together. https://www.defenceweb.co.za/aerospace/aerospace-aerospace/nigerian-air-force-interested-in-airbus-aircraft/The Nigerian Air Force has expressed interest in acquiring new aircraft from Airbus and has held discussions with the Spanish Ambassador to Nigeria on this and other matters.
The Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Oladayo Amao, said the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) is looking to partner with the Spanish Government in the areas of aircraft acquisition, training, air operations, intelligence sharing and capacity development in imagery analysis, and is in discussions with Airbus.

jl115: I'm specifically talking about medium lift and AHs which are essential for supporting troops....how do you expect to scramble helis from 3000kms away?.... You can't, go ask the SANDF generals back in 2013....yes jets you can but you can't medi vac, or provide close air support with jets to the same degree as an AH
LHDs are perfect for regional powers like SA and Nigeria and the roles they are trying to play wrt peacekeeping and other military missions on the continent. Helicopters and Jets were based in Senegal during the Gambia deployment. Helicopters and Jets were based in Niger during the Mali deployment. Helicopters like we've seen in Ukraine and Yemen are easily shot down, infact if the helicopter doesn't redeem it's image soon, it would go extinct from the attack role in 3 decades time. Jets and UCAVs are proving to be better than the Attack Helicopter for CAS. Point of correction, Nigeria is an African Superpower. ......and NO!! LHD would provide no advantage to Nigeria that the LST is not currently providing. |

jl115: no expeditionary ambitions yet you want another LST?? A bit contradictory don't you think... Also sending armour without air support ain't great bru.. What is air support? The ability to use Commercially available drones in combat zone is air support, besides we had no problems deploying fighter jets, helicopters and transport aircrafts to Gambia, but we could not deploy armour on time. |

jl115: no expeditionary ambitions yet you want another LST?? A bit contradictory don't you think... Also sending armour without air support ain't great bru.. It's not contradictory. Nigeria has no expeditionary ambitions, however to ensure security and the flow of trade in Nigeria, Nigeria needs to have the capability to deploy troops, armour and aid across the West-African quickly and efficiently. This is why the Nigerian Navy has a requirement for a minimum of 2 LSTs. |

jl115: It's literally your LST but with the added advantage of having additional helicopters(transport and AH) to support landing troops.....not only will it benefit Nigeria in terms of conventional force projection but with peacekeeping operations as well(ECOMOG comes to mind) ...Lessons from our operation in CAR should come to mind wrt air support. Nigeria has no requirement for an LHD. Buying such a ship would be an infinitely waste of resources. What Nigeria needs is another LST, same size and displacement as NNS Kada. If we look at our deployment to Gambia, Nigeria could not move armour to Gambia during the early stages of the intervention. However because of during this year's deployment to Guinea Bissau men, armour and light skin vehicles were all moved at once. While an LHD provides same sealift and more, Nigeria does not have any expeditionary ambitions, nor the budget to support and sustain the operations of an LHD. What Nigeria needs at the moment is to quickly get in the second LST to support NNS Kada, also investments in Medium Utility Helicopter like the MI-17. The recent flooding has exposed Nigeria's lack of adequate air mobility in peace time. We have used frontline MI-35M Attack Helicopters and EC-135 helicopters for roles that the MI-17s should carry out. |

AID TO CIVIL AUTHOURITY: NAF AIRLIFTS RELIEF MATERIALS TO FLOODED COMMUNITIES IN BAYELSA STATE
In line with its constitutional mandate of providing aid to civil authority, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has commenced the airlift of relief materials to riverine communities in Bayelsa State affected by the recent flooding. The relief materials, which were airlifted from Enugu State to Igbogenne community in Bayelsa State via Port Harcourt, are intended to be redistributed to other riverine communities adversely affected by the recent flooding in the State. The airlift of the relief materials also aligns with the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Oladayo Amao’s directive to all operational units and commanders to ensure they provide the necessary assistance required by all government agencies towards alleviating the sufferings of Nigerians affected by this year’s unprecedented flooding in some parts of the country. The relief materials were airlifted by the C-130 aircraft from Enugu to Port Harcourt and subsequently ferried to Igbogenne in Bayelsa State using the Mi-35M and EC-135 helicopters where it was then redistributed to affected communities and villages. More relief materials are expected to be airlifted in the coming days from other parts of the country to affected flooded communities in Bayelsa State and other States in the country.
The NAF has a long history of providing aids in form of airlift to civil authourities. Recall that in March 2020, the NAF airlifted medical materials donated by the Jack Ma foundation consisting of 107 boxes of medical supplies and equipment weighing over 1,360kg. Also, in April 2020, the NAF airlifted medical equipment and supplies donated by the Turkish government from Lagos to Abuja. Additionally, in March 2021, the NAF airlifted Covid-19 medical relief materials donated by the Economic Community of West Africa States.

MAN1960: So you are tell me that the US has more than 10 LHD because they are planning on invading another nation? There is what we call multi-purpose equipments and the LHD is among the classes of such weapons, it allows navies to spend more time at sea ( months ).
It's can be use as a command and control post at sea.
Any nation that takes its security and the territory integrity of it's EEZ seriously must have such weapons. This is ridiculous, the United States is a global superpower with bases all across the world, hence the requirement for super carriers and LHDs. The US also spends over 800 billion USD on defence, that's nearly 2 times of Nigeria's entire GDP. A Nation that it's security seriously spends in areas that are most needed, not in LHDs. |

Toju200: it can serve as a command centre at sea Moves more aerial assets than the LST The LHD could do what the LST does and more No it cannot do what the LST does in a Nigerian security environment. The LST does all you have mentioned and is significantly cheaper to operate and deploy. There's nothing an LHD will do for Nigeria. |

MAN1960: Are you in time of war? Then why did you call it a big fat target What LHD offers every Navy in the world is it's ability to carry larg number of personals and some numbers of helicopters which makes it serves as a command post at sea When buying a military equipment, you take into account all possible scenarios. In what way is an LHD beneficial to Nigeria, and what tactical advantage would such a ship provide that our LST don't fulfill? |

Faithful007: Lol. Me and you we are friends, you sell oil to me, I sell weapons and assist you economically. I ask you for additional help, you refuse. Then I consider scaling down my assistance too. Other self appointed judges who keep me rent free on their heads jump into what isn't their business and accuse me of being a bully.
FYI, the same country Turkey made an open threat to invade Greece, a fellow NATO ally weeks back. Turkey promised to stop Sweden and Finland from joining NATO until they clarified their relationship with the Kurds. Other countries freely reciprocate actions. But when it is America, she gets accused of being a bully and a hypocrite. If Ghana were to enact policies today that hurt Nigeria, Nigeria will quickly retaliate as much as they can. Replace it with the US and everybody begins to complain. Who then are the real hypocrites here?
Many countries are unnecessarily intimidated by America's power and this makes them act irrationally at times. What is normal for other countries to do becomes abnormal if the US tries it. I really want to have a proper educated debate with you on this topic but we'll wreck the thread. I'll pass for the time been. |

During deployment in Afghanistan, elements of US agencies themselves were paying taliban indirectly (to circumvent direct complicity) and knowingly for safe passage of goods etc patriot or whatever act feel asleep then I guess
US acts like the 'area boy' of the world bec it can afford to do so
And ironically US is fining others for supporting terrorists in Syria when US itself supports jihadi groups in Syria and now shamelessly stealing oil from Syria , and now will also keep that 788 million
Irony died a million deaths
addendum I cant recollect for sure but I think few years back France imposed a big multi million dollar fine on a us company for internet / data security related issues , possibly it's a payback of sorts by Us It's incredible. Judge, Jury & Executioner. |
