Career / Re: Switching From Chemistry To Chemical Engineering by Kaboo4sure: 1:20pm On Dec 17, 2022
Lexiskillz09:
Good evening guys. I'm sorry for the long story. But it's serious Please
Please I need ur opinions on this issue bothering me. I am a Industrial chemistry graduate. I graduated last year and just completed my NYSC. I want to go for postgraduate studies but I am having difficulties in making a decision on what to do.

Someone advised me to switch to Chemical engineering, (this will require a 1 year postgraduate diploma course) though I wouldn't mind if there's a guarantee I stand a very good chance in the labour market after the PGD and MSC. On the other hand, 2 bros in my area I respect so much discouraged me about switching. Both of them were of the opinion that it would rather keep me confused instead of helping me. That recruiters will consider a candidate with B.Eng Chemical engineering without a masters over me, while chemistry field will consider a chemistry msc holder over me also.
Bottom line, it's almost a waste of time especially here in Nigeria that I should just do msc in industrial chemistry.

I'm still young though. I Will be 22 on 27th of this month.

Let me comment for the first time since I joined Nairaland many years ago. I believe in sharing knowledge expecially with someone of your age.

I did studied Industrial chemistry too, and I switched to Chemical Engineering later, so I may be able to provide some insight on this question. You see, the most important thing in life is to define your goal, and also understand why you want to take a step. There is a saying that you are not an engineer unless you have a bachelor degree in Engineering. Nigeria is a case study and whatever decision you want to me, you got to think twice.

As for me, I had to start from scratch and had a second bachelor degree in chemical engineering while I also had friends that had masters in Chemical engineering with Bachelor in chemistry. While there may be a different experience, I think I took the best option because at the end of the day I got a job immediately after graduation while those that had masters end up switching to other things or in some cases couldn't get the kind of offer that I got. This is simply due to the fact that there is much different between Chemical engineering and chemistry, and the fundamentals of engineering is thought at lower level. With that said, this is just a case of someone that lives in United States.

For you living in Nigeria, I think you should consider some of the comments you are reading. Do you want to do masters and end up teaching in secondary school? If you have passion for Engineering, it may not be a bad idea but I will suggest you get PhD such that your can become a researcher for industries. Masters in Chemical Engineering doesn't count as much as Bachelor or PhD. For bachelor you learn the fundamentals and will be able to run a plant, for PhD , you will be able to help design the plant or help with improvement and sometimes you are the SME.

If there is no passion for Engineering and you just want to study for purpose of making money in Nigeria, my friend pls think twice, don't wast your youthful age. Switch to medicine or go into IT; programming, Cloud Engineering, Cyber security, etc. That is where the future is.

Please don't take my advise as-is. The final decision is yours, always follow your instinct. You could still take your decision and in future tell a story about how people advised you not to, but you took it anyways and it paid off...

I am happy to help for further questions.

Politics / Re: Photos From President Jonathan's Visit To AIT This Morning by Kaboo4sure: 2:07pm On Mar 05, 2015
Bro I can't thank you enough for ur post. My heart sadden every time I compare what I see here in US journalism to Nigeria politically motivated one. Who doesn't know Tinubu is a thief ,and if they have this much info why not charge him to court. I just can't believe some Nigerian graduates could stoop so low that the next think they do every time they see such show of shame on TV is to start raining curse or saying all kind of shit on media. We really need to use our brain. Where is our rule of law. We shouldn't allow politicians to use us with our educational attainments. I saw the documentary and I felt like it's a political shit. Those classified information were enough to prosecute Tinubu. We all need to wake up bro.
yommyphresh:
The documentary on Tinubu was so revealing. Over the years, I've always known Tinubu to be a corrupt politician. Thank you AIT for yet another documentary on an APC chieftain.
But then, i was just wondering if we could have documentaries on these PDP chieftains:

1.) Chief Bode George (Former Chairman chairman of the board of the Nigeria Ports)
2.) Vincent Ogbulafor ( Former national chairman of the PDP)
3.) Abdullahi Adamu (Former PDP Governor of Nassarawa state)
4.) Danjuma Goje (Former PDP Governor of Gombe state- now an APC Chieftain)
6.) Buruji Kashamu (PDP Southwest Leader)
7.) Bamanga Tukur (Former National Chairman of the PDP)
8.) Tony Anini- sorry Anenih! (a former chairman of the BOT)

And so on...

I won't be wrong to say 99% of Nigerian Politicians are THIEVES and ROGUES. No thanks to a failed system. So I'm really not interested in the politicians opening can of worms here and there.
What i'm concerned about is the JOURNALISM profession. Journalism in Nigeria is a huge disgrace to the profession and the entire world. The sole ethic of Journalism is to relay events the way they are without being BIASED or PARTISAN. I find it saddening that virtually every Nigerian media house have chosen to be partisan. Well, I honestly expect them to thrive because they are fully aware that lots of Nigerians' emotions can be manipulated. If AIT gets to see this by any chance, can they please give us a detailed documentary on these ones listed above?

I WILL RATHER BELIEVE THE NEWS ABOUT NIGERIA FROM A FOREIGN MEDIA THAN BELIEVE ANY NEWS COMING FROM ANY NIGERIAN MEDIA HOUSE.

Seriously the only way I unwind everyday is to read the comments posted by my fellow Nigerian. And have come to realise that everybody is entitled to his opinion. As for Nneka I think she's a great singer lyrics wise.

Politics / Re: Nigerians Ask For President Jonathan's Thesis On Twitter by Kaboo4sure: 12:11pm On Jan 22, 2015
Very simple question. He presented his PHD for the seat, now people are demanding for what he presented. This is a very simple question. It's a check and balance sort of a thing. Present ur thesis or resign ur position for lying to Nigeria and falsifying federal documents. When Obama was alleged for not being born in USA, he went ahead and presented his birth certificate.
UchihaMadara:

Exactly, why ask for such?

Last I checked, a PHD thesis isn't required to contest for the Presidency and is more of a luxury.

This so called new trend is bound to flop.

I dnt care who win the election, i just can't imagine why you guys always wanna use the little thing on media against all political office seeking individuals.Everybody want the best for his/her kids.

PDP supporters pls prove me wrong. By May 29 1999, we had
23 PDP governors, 6 AD, and 7 APP. 8 years after, this is their
story:
(A) PDP (23 governors):
1. James lbori - PDP Delta - in prison for looting
2. DSP - Alamieseigha - PDP Bayelsa - Ex- convict for looting
3. Lucky Igbinedion - PDP Edo - Ex-convict for looting
4. Peter Odili - PDP Rivers -In court for looting
5. Chimaroke Nnamani - PDP Enugu - In court for looting

16. Saminu Turaki - Ex-gov. PDP Jigawa - In court for looting
the treasury
17. Orji Uzor Kalu - PDP Abia - In court for
looting the treasury
(B). AD / AC, 6 governors. None has ever been taken to court
for treasury looting. NOTE:- Tinubu of Lagos wasdragged to
Code of Conduct Tribunal for having foreign accounts while in
power against government policy of zeroforeign account for
public officials. He was found not guilty because he had the
accounts before his election to the office of governor. Case
dismissed.
(C) APP - (ANPP) 7 governors:
1. Attahiru Baffarawa - APP Sokoto - In court for looting (he is
now in a PDP member)
2. Prince Abubakar Audu - ANPP Kogi - In court for looting.
You may add the two ex-national chairmen of PDP, Ahmadu Ali
and Bamanga Tukukur whose sons are facing multi-billion naira
oil subsidy fraud charges. It's sad some senseless Nigeria still
believe we do not need a change from this same PDP while they
claim they can't see the difference btw APC n PDP. The
difference btw them is like daylight to darkness. If you chose not to see may you remain blinded for eternity.

This Femi guy is making a mockery of his education. INEC has helped you by giving tips on how to pursue your case. Approach a court of competent jurisdiction with your claims that GMB is not qualified to run on account of his lack of requisite academic education. If the court agrees with you, he'll be disqualified. You want to disqualify him on the Internet.

Thank you bro, that guy is an example of people who never wish Nigeria well. Going back to history, this country has been ruled by both xtian and Muslims who put faith aside whenever they intend to share our wealth. Don't allow politicians to push u against each other.i don't live in Nigeria but always wish Nigeria well as I represent Nigeria anywhere I go. May the best candidate win come Feb 14th.

When we told him not to play Ethnodivisive politics, his Band of Halleluyah boys said it is because he is from a Minority tribe

Rev Fr Mbaka just delivered an Holy Ghost inspired Atomic Bomb few days ago.....his boys groaned and vented like the newly refurbished GEJ Transformation Locomotive trains that takes 30hrs to travel from Lagos to Kano by trying to shout down the Man of God

A member of the PDP Board of Trustee Sen Muhammadu Magoro just decamped even just yesterday

Now it is the turn of the Chairman to look at GEJ in the face with all the tiiro and lipstick to tell him to act as a leader and not allow himself to be tossed to and fro by every wind or cabal
