Politics / See How They Steal Nigeria Crude Oil – Int’l Report by kachysblog(f): 3:32pm On Aug 05, 2015
According to a non-profit international governance watchdog, Natural Resource Governance Institutes (NRGI) today said, President Muhammadu Buhari should overhaul how Nigeria sells NNPC’s share of crude oil output to save billions of dollars in wasted and lost revenues.

The body said a total overhaul is needed in order to block leakages and stop corruption in the sector….
•About half of Nigeria’s 2 million barrel per day (bpd) crude output goes to NNPC, the state-owned oil company. NNPC sells half that oil to its subsidiary Pipelines and Product Marketing Co for the country’s refineries.
•The poorly maintained plants are however unable to process the bulk of the oil and over the years this allocation has devolved into a “nexus of waste and revenue loss,”
•The other half of NNPC’s oil share is mostly sold to “unqualified intermediaries,” earning significant margins for little or no added value, rather than directly to the end-users, NRGI said.
•The mismanagement and corruption surrounding NNPC’s sales lie at the heart of the problem and former central bank governor Lamido Sanusi was sacked after pointing out that $20 billion had not been remitted between January 2012 and July 2013.
•Constitutionally, NNPC is meant to remit all revenues to the country’s treasury but the act establishing the state firm allows it to keep what it needs to cover costs with little oversight. The result is a legal grey area that has been open for abuse for decades.
•About 210,000 bpd of the domestic allocation, or $35 billion worth of oil, was converted to crude-for-products swap contracts starting in 2010 that are now being scrutinized by Nigerian authorities for short-changing the government.
•According to estimates by NRGI, about $16 a barrel could have been lost in 2011 alone under one offshore-processing agreement.
•One stark example found by NRGI was the non-remittance of revenues from a decade’s worth of production from one field totaling $12.3 billion between 2004 and 2014.

Politics / See Why The Near Future Of GEJ Could Be Behind Bars… by kachysblog(f): 11:56pm On Aug 02, 2015
Since assuming of office by the All Progressives Congress Party on May 29th, the media has been awash with news of alleged corruption in high places perpetuated by the immediate past administration. While these allegations are yet to be verified by a court of competent jurisdiction, it is however worthy to note that these accusations are weighty and should not be swept under the carpet…..The near future of Goodluck Jonathan could be behind bars if a court of law finds him guilty of the alleged corruption and financial recklessness said to have characterised his administration as claimed by the current administration of President Muhammadu Buhari…

While some may be tempted to accuse President Buhari of demonizing and blackmailing the out-gone regime to score cheap political points, it is of note that these allegations have been backed by facts which can be verified.

Politics / Cameroon Indicts Jonathan Over Boko Haram Insurgency In New Revelation.. by kachysblog(f): 2:54pm On Jul 31, 2015
President Muhammadu Buhari was at Cameroon few days back to discuss issues bordering on Boko Haram insurgency and the way forward.

Cameroonian president Paul Biya spurred some allegations against the immediate past president where he said GEJ did not do what was expected of him to curb the deadly group attacks. The full allegation after the cut…..

According to The Sun, a credible presidency source said that during Buhari’s interaction with the Cameroonian president, Paul Biya, it was revealed that Jonathan did not do much in the war against insurgency.
The former president was accused of not forming a strong bond with leaders of neighbouring African countries who were also battling the same Islamism insurgency.

The source also said that Jonathan was accused of not responding and returning phone calls to discuss ways of combining efforts to battle Boko Haram. This led to a disjointed relationship between Nigeria and Niger, Chad and Cameroon in the fight against the Boko Haram group that was growing in size and might.

The source said: “The major complaint, according to Biya, is that Jonathan never or seldom, at best, picked his calls. He said most times he called, Jonathan neither picked nor returned his calls. And as a result, the integration of efforts that should have stopped Boko Haram’s foray and unchallenged run was lacking.”

According to the source, Biya also explained that a solo fight against the terrorist group couldn’t have been effective. He said: “This solo handling of the problem did not enable the neighbours put in much to solve the problem until it got this bad,”

Nairaland / General / ‘they Call Him Timaya,Getting Down Higher’–Article By Charles Novia on rape case by kachysblog(f): 7:57am On Jul 30, 2015
Following the trending stories about Nigerian singer Timaya and his Atlanta-based fan Shella B’s rape case, controversial Nollywood movie producer Charles Novia has written an article on it which he titled ‘They Call Him Timaya; “Getting Down” Higher’ and claimed the whole saga was stage managed…pure publicity stunt.

Read the article below…..

“Dancehall cum Afro pop star act, Timaya, has been trending for a few days for the wrong reasons, perhaps.

“A lady in Atlanta, America took to social media to accuse him of rape. Initially when I read the news on a blog, I thought it was one of some crazy publicity stunts some Nigerian artistes pull up and didn’t give it a second thought, even though I abhor anything which has to do with the violation of a woman.
“Why did I think it was a stunt at first? Because I know how puerile sometimes our Publicists in the entertainment industry in Nigeria sometimes are. They dream up the most assinine of capers just to get their clients trending. Haven’t we read many? Two brothers fighting over getting married or not, some actress owing for fake bags, supposed twitter ‘fights’ and ‘notice-me-by-force’ holidays at exotic resorts. Sadly, the job of the Nigerian Publicists in the entertainment sector seem to be one which ensures that the client must trend by all means necessary because it guarantees ( to them) media exposure and brand visibility somewhat.

“But that’s a story to dissect for another day.

“And so, Timaya’s ‘rape saga’ didn’t even as much as raise the hairs on the nape of my neck when I first read it. But I had to sit up when the story started gaining traction with posts after post by the alleged ‘victim’. And I have concluded that it’s not a joke; this ish is real.

“Sheila B claims from her narrative and audio proof that Timaya forced himself on her and raped her. Timaya’s initial response to a blogger was to dismiss her claims even though he admitted that he slept with her consensually and thereafter became suspicious of her motives. It was when I read Timaya’s response to the story that I came to the near conclusion that this may not be a stunt after all.

“Timaya’s response was dismissive and ill-advised without any media management helping out in damage control. That’s the first step for a celebrity when these kind of things happen. It doesn’t matter who is right or wrong but all that comes to the fore at first is perception management for the celebrity. And Timaya had none in that first interview.

“He implicated himself much in that interview, in my opinion and not of the crime he has been accused of but of his admission of being in the same room with the lady and revealing aspects of the post – coital incidents which any smart lawyer in America could use against him in a court of law. His honesty is commendable but a naivete not to allow a paid Media manager give his own side of the story is my worry.

“According to Timaya ‘…I agreed to see her and she came to my hotel in Atlanta and we got down for real .When we were done and we were chilling…I got up and started preparing for the show but I realised her phone wouldn’t leave my face and she kept asking me stupid questions and even as I answered, I wondered what she was up to ,then it hit me that she was recording and I grabbed her phone and we struggled cos I wanted to delete the videos she had made without my consent..I dont even know if she still has any but I deleted the ones I could on her phone.

“I called the hotel security and explained what had happened to them .I told them to open her phone so that I could see what she had left but she refused and was making a scene and the hotel told her to get out but I didnt want her to go cos Í was scared of what she might have recorded and I insisted on calling the Police but the hotel told me that if I called the police,I might be arrested for holding her hostage in my room so I let her go.’

“In ending his own side of the story, he accused the accuser of trying to extort $50,000 from him in order not to reveal his deed and he claims he refused to fall for that blackmail.

“An angry Sheila B retorted ( in between putting up curious downloads of her single as a musical artist) that she wasn’t lying and has reportedly filed a rape case against Timaya with the Atlanta Police Department.

“Gbese re o!

“Now, that’s serious. This tale has assumed new proportions and it doesn’t look good for Timaya. The implications are dire for him. Effectively, it means any time Timaya lands in America, he’s likely to be arrested and charged for rape if Sheila persists with the case. If he is innocent, which we all have to believe until he is proven guilty, then he also needs to clear himself of these allegations.

“Here’s what I would suggest Timaya should do; get a good lawyer and go to America and prove his innocence. I repeat, that this is not an allusion that Timaya is guilty but I’m concerned that he has to put this behind to move on as a creative artiste and also to redeem himself and other Nigerian artistes who might get affected by a blanket suspicion in the eyes of the larger world.

“A good Lawyer would ask questions on aspects of Sheila’s story which on face value as it is from the statements right now; seem to be a bit out of place.

“First, was the sex between both parties consensual? Timaya claims it was; she claims it wasn’t and actually took her phone after the intercourse to record her conversations with him. Now, that’s where experienced Psychologists would have to determine in court why she would record a guy who just raped her, according to her, and still be asking leading questions to cage him. Was it a post – traumatic syndrome or was she surreptiously trying to trap him into admitting that he did it?

“Second, she has denied that she requested for $50,000 from Timaya which makes her motives not in anyway monetary by her denial. Yet a good Lawyer can ask her why she put up links to her songs for downloads just after she accused Timaya on her page. It doesn’t make sense. Was she seeking for a validation of her artistry or what? And then, who is this Sheila B? What’s her background? The Lawyers would have to research her background and scrutinise her story to the last letter. Then, if she claims she was raped and reported the case to the Police, did she go for a medical examination immediately after the incident? Do the Police have samples of Timaya’s semen from her? If indeed, she reported days after the incident, were there signs of a struggle on her body or did the people from the hotel who came after Timaya called them witness the tell-tale signs of a rape scene?

“Whatever these and many questions would throw up, the reality about this issue is a wake up call for all Nigerian male acts when it comes to sexual relations with women who come at them as fans and friends. Be very careful. What is taken as normal in Nigeria by these acts is much more serious in the West. Sure, there are ladies out there who are good stalkers and could set up a successful act but certain discretions are advised when it comes to sexual dalliances.

“You can’t really stop an artiste from dipping his wick in every paraffin lamp but you can certainly advice him on how not to set the himself on fire too! The frills and thrills of fame come with lots of groupies and gold diggers and if you ask me, I would advice the male acts to try as much as possible to ABSTAIN from those kinds of people.

“But because it takes a lot of self – discipline to abstain, the other option would be for the artiste to ensure that before “getting it on” with the women who are wont to have one nighters, she signs a consensual agreement on a page. Just a paragraph does it. You know; ‘I, Ms A, hereby states that I’m having sex with Artiste B of my own free will and consent’. That simple. Or even a video recording of same lines.

“That’s how most of those American acts do theirs. And since the world is a global village, our Nigerian acts have to learn from their counterparts in this regard.

“Now, none should misconstrue this to mean that all women these acts meet are all for cherry pickings. But the reality is that a rush of blood does more to people’s inhibitions when the chips are down. Or rather…when the slip is down, if the pun is allowed here.“

Excellency President Robert Mugabe, Chairman of the Union,

Excellency President Jacob Zuma, our Host,

Excellencies fellow Presidents and Heads of Government….. Excellency Mr. Jan Eliasson, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Excellency Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, Chairperson of the AU Commission, Excellencies, Heads of Delegation, Invited Guests, Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen

1. Please permit me to join previous speakers in conveying my delegation’s appreciation to our host, H.E. President Jacob Zuma, to his Government, and the brotherly people of South Africa for their warm hospitality, and for the excellent arrangements made for our comfort and for the success of our meetings. As this is my first address at this august assembly, may I also congratulate H.E. Dr. Robert Gabriel Mugabe, President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, for his unanimous election as the Chairman of our Union.

2. I feel highly honoured and extremely pleased to be able to address you today, barely two weeks after my inauguration as the President of Nigeria, following the 2015 Presidential election in my country. That process, which was adjudged as the fairest and most credible in the history of elections in Nigeria, was midwifed by the dogged and sustained determination of the Nigerian people, and their desire to deepen our democracy. Their quest was amply supported, and even encouraged by the goodwill of our friends and partners in the international community. I therefore wish to seize this opportunity to convey my very deep appreciation to all those who contributed to the success of that election.

3. My election has been described as historic. I agree that it is indeed historic because for the first time in the practice of democracy in my country, an opposition Party has defeated the ruling Party in a keenly contested election. The election was also held against the backdrop of the fears and concerns expressed both in Nigeria and among our international friends abroad and partners that the outcome of the election could spell doom for Nigeria. I am glad that even though those fears and concerns were not without basis, the outcome was totally different, to the relief of all of us.

4. I cannot fail to acknowledge the very positive role played by my predecessor, H.E. President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, in averting the feared crisis, and in facilitating the peaceful transition of power between the two parties. I also wish to express my deep appreciation to all who honoured us with their presence at my inauguration, and even those, who for unavoidable reasons were unable to attend. I thank you all. Mr. Chairman,

5. It is gratifying to note that our Union has made laudable progress over the past one and a half decades since its transformation from the Organization of African Unity (OAU) to the African Union (AU). Notably, we have been able to redirect our priorities at the continental level from mainly political goals to more diverse aspirations that are equally fundamental to our survival and development in a global community.

6. It is however clear, Mr. Chairman, that some of the greater challenges to our peoples within this Union still lie in the political, economic, as well as peace and security spheres. Our continent is currently bedevilled by the twin evils of terrorism and insecurity; poverty, youth unemployment, and underdevelopment. The destructive effects of the inhuman and criminal campaigns of the Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria and neighbouring countries; the Al-Shabab attacks in East Africa, and the activities of the Al-Qaida in the Maghreb, all bear testimony to a continent under siege. Mr Chairman, Excellencies and Colleagues

7. On our part, I was convinced on my assumption of office that the best approach would be to work within the framework of the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) to mobilse collective support to fight against Boko Haram. I have in this regard, directed the relocation of Nigeria’s Command Centre to place it closer to the theatre of action. Furthermore, I have vigorously engaged the members states of the LCBC to better coordinate the strategies and tactics in fighting the insurgency in the region. I believe that this approach can be enhanced through complimentary regional and continental efforts.

8. The images in the international mass media of African youths getting drowned in the Mediterranean sea on their illegal attempts, and often times illusory hope of attaining better life in Europe is not only an embarrassment to us as leaders, but dehumanises our persons. Indeed, they combine to paint a very unfavourable picture of our peoples and countries.

9. Those of us gathered here today owe it as a duty to reverse this ugly trend. We must put an end to the so-called push factors that compel our young men and women to throw caution to the winds and risk life, limbs and all, on this dangerous adventure. We must redouble our efforts to sustain the economic development of our countries, ensure empowerment of our youths, create more jobs, improve and upgrade our infrastructure, and above all continue the enthronement of a regime of democracy, good governance and respect for human rights and rule of law. These and other measures that engender peace and stability must be pursued relentlessly.

10. In this connection, we must persist in our collective endeavour to work together through the African Union and our respective Regional Economic Communities (RECs), to uplift our continent and provide the African peoples the enabling environment for the realization of their legitimate dreams and aspirations. At this juncture, let me assure you of the unflinching commitment of Nigeria to the ideals and aspirations of the African Union as explained in the Agenda 2063, which is geared towards ensuring a peaceful, prosperous and integrated Africa in the next 50 years. It is for this reason that Nigeria is fully and irrevocably committed to the ECOWAS vision.

11. We do so because we believe that African integration is best attained through the instrumentality of our Regional Economic Communities (RECs) as the building blocs of viable continental institutions. Nigeria will therefore continue to play her part in supporting the African Union Commission and other continental and regional institutions in their efforts to prioritize African development in all sectors of human endeavor.

12. The journey might look arduous, but certainly not impossible. There are opportunities in every challenge. If and when we adopt this call for a change of attitude, approach, and disposition towards agreed protocols and commitments, we shall be bequeathing a politically stable, economically developed, and socially harmonious Africa, thereby justifying the confidence reposed in us by our electorates. We will also demonstrate our qualities as statesmen and true daughters and sons of Africa.

13. I thank you for your kind attention.

According to reports, there was protest today 8th June in Akure by the youths, following the emergence of Prince Kole Aladetoyinbo as the new Deji of Akure elect.

Prince Aladetoyinbo, was among 13 princes who contested for the throne which had been declared vacant since December 1, 2013, following the death of the former Deji, Oba Adebiyi Adesida.

The protesters, who are mainly supporters of the deposed Deji of Akure, Oba Adepoju Adesina protested to the governor’s office, requesting the State government not to approved the appointment of the new Deji-elect...

Some of the protesters, who spoke with our reporters said apart from the fact that there was a court case pending , Aladetoyinbo was not qualified to be the Deji of Akure.

They argued that the Deji-elect had staunch on the back, bald head and also a dwarf. They said these characteristics, he is not qualified as Deji as stipulated by the tradition.

They however, described the emergence of Aladetoyinbo as illegal in a protest letter to governor Mimiko, signed by the Adesina family's spokesperson, Prince Dapo Adepoju Adesina.

Politics / “Myself And my Household Will Vote KOWA Party At Today’s Poll” – Obasanjo by kachysblog(f): 9:37am On Mar 28, 2015
After all the election brouhaha between Olusegun obasanjo, Jonathan, PDP, APC and Nigeria, Baba have decided to pitch tent with the KOWA party. With the initial public disowning and tearing of PDP membership card to shreds, that gave the opposition party APC a wonderful opportunity to bring in one of Nigeria’s biggest most reverred Political figure into their fold. The opportunity they apparently never took.

Now, the former General now a neutral politician as he is currently alleged not to be a card carrying member of any party has shocked all and sundry as he disclosed he endorsed Prof. Remi Sonaiya, KOWA flag bearer for President.

According to the former Head of State while speaking from his Ota Farm:

“Since the PDP have rejected me, and the APC are not smart enough to realize how big a person I am, those disrespectful idiots, I am putting my weight behind Remi. Come March 28, myself and my entire household will vote KOWA party. I advise everyone to do so”….

Asked about Buhari’s chances he simply said “This is no country for Old Men”
On Jonathan he said “He never heeded my advice. he’s on his own now”
On Emeka Ike, he said “He’s an okay actor, but why am I being asked about him? Is he running for President too?”
