Politics / “buhari Is A Face Of Deceit & Chief Promoter Of Born To Rule” – Asari Dokubo by kachysblog(f): 11:09pm On Mar 27, 2015
While conducting the Niger Delta People Salvation Front, NDPSF volunteers march in support of President Goodluck in Warri, the ex-militant Asari Dokubo said, Former Head of State, General Buhari ought to be in jail for his high handedness as a military head of state in the past.

“All persons who believe that never again should those who see us all as a conquered people; those who believe that we exist at their pleasure; those who believes our sovereignty must be continually confiscated; and that you and I are mere appendages in the Nigeria union; lead us again. We must kick out Buhari, who is a chief promoter of born to rule and Boko Haram terrorism.

Buhari ought to be in jail and not allowed the luxury of contesting an election with sane people. He is the face of deceit,” he said….

Asari at the rally also warned that it would be a gun for gun, bomb for bomb, bullet for bullet battle if the APC Presidential candidate and his team decides to foment trouble when he looses the elections coming up this Saturday March 28th….

Nairaland / General / BREAKING! Armed Robbery Attack At Maza-maza 1st Gate Now by kachysblog(f): 11:22am On Feb 23, 2015
There was an armed robbery attack now at maza-maza 1st gate now. Men of the underworld, about four in number just stormed 1st gate on a bike right now, blocked some car and took from the occupant bag which supposedly contained money.

They were shooting sporadically in the air that their bullet scattered even to the motor parks around there. God’s so kind, no victim was recorded. It must have been a case of Informant because, they actually know who they came for, attack him and leave almost immediately.

The funniest thing there was that as soon as they left, our men on black uniforms came in with their car and guns parading around there…….what prevents them from coming immediately they heard gunshots…mtcheww!

Nairaland / General / EXCLUSIVE: Bola Dump Site In Festac Catches Fire, Aboki Loses N2.5m In Inferno by kachysblog(f): 5:52pm On Feb 17, 2015
A dump site around 202, Festac Lagos was gutted by fire yesterday evening. The site is being used mainly by hausa scavengers who store all sorts of spoiled items ranging from aluminium, plastics and so on….

Kcb gathered that the outbreak was caused by ‘igbo’ smokers at the dump site. Speaking with an annonymous eye witness, she said those guys have always been warned to desist from smoking there. Hear her below…..

”All these guys here, they don’t hear word. We always tell them to stop this their igbo smoking, they don’t hear. They will smoke, they will drop it on the ground. Now, we don’t know the one that caused the fire. When the fire was small, they would have quench it, but you know Aboki people, they were just carryng their okada and be leaving one by one. It was until all these boys selling cars here saw it that they started shouting and were running around removing their parked cars from there and be taking them outside. Unfortunately, an Aboki sweet seller that has his shade there lost all his N2.5m he has since been saving in the fire……

However, men of fire service later came to salvage the situation but not until a lot of things have been wasted. See more pics after the cut…

Nairaland / General / Pic: 2 Friends Ebere&maureen Arrested Trying To Smuggle 19.8kg Cannabis To Dubai by kachysblog(f): 3:33pm On Feb 06, 2015
So sad! And to think that she went to one of the best moral secondary schools in Nigeria. Ebere Sandra Ohakwe 30 and friend Maureen Obidike 33, was arrested by the Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency after they recovered 19.8 kilogrammes of dried weeds, said to be cannabis sativa, from them. Read below:

Punch Metro gathered that the suspects were arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos State during the screening of passengers on an Etihad flight en route to Dubai, United Arab Emirate.

It was learnt that the drug was packaged into about 80 parcels and concealed inside foodstuffs and bottles. Our correspondent gathered that Ebere, who studied Economics, told investigators that her travel agent in Dubai directed her to smuggle the drug as a prerequisite for a free visa….She said,
“I used to export foodstuffs to Dubai since 2012. Each time I go to Dubai, I stay for two months and come back because I have no permanent visa. I came to Nigeria since December 2014 to spend the Christmas and New Year holidays at home. While I was preparing to go back, my travel agent in Dubai called me that somebody will give me a parcel to bring to him. He promised me that if I could bring it to him he will prepare my next visa for free. That was how I agreed to take it.”

Obidike, in her statement, described her arrest as the backlash of keeping a deceitful friend.

“My friend did not tell me that she had drugs in the luggage before she checked in in my name. She told me that it was foodstuffs, but it turned out to be cannabis. I feel very sad,” she said.

The NDLEA Commander at the Lagos Airport, Mr. Umar Hamza, said the case was under investigation.

He said,

“We found 78 parcels of dried weeds that tested positive for cannabis sativa weighing 19.8kg inside foodstuffs and bottles of local alcoholic beverage. The case is under investigation and the suspects are assisting our team of investigators.”

The agency’s Chairman, Mr. Ahmadu Giade, called on travellers to be sure of the content of their luggage before travelling.

“Members of the public must take necessary preventive measures to ensure that they have no drugs in their luggage. They must also not collect luggage from people when travelling. This is very important because such luggage may contain drugs,” Giade said.

Politics / Certificate Saga Can’t Stop Buhari’s Ambition - Solomon by kachysblog(f): 6:10am On Jan 30, 2015
As controversy continues to surround the certificates and qualification of the All Progressives Congress’ standard-bearer, Gen Muhammadu Buhari, the Public Relations Officer, APC-Diaspora, Canada Chapter, Mr. Jerry Solomon, said the certificate saga won’t stop the General’s ambition and mission come February 14. By Gabriel Ewepu What is your taketo the recent certificate saga of the APC Presidential candidate, Gen Muhammadu Buhari, and don’t you think it will affect his ambition?

It is impossible for the calibre of General Buhari, with his personality and worldwide reputation for honesty and integrity to lay claim to qualifications he does not have. MOHAMMADU BUHARI There is no how the certificate saga can affect the ambition of Gen Buhari. Nigerians want a leader that can take them out of the current ditch the PDP administration plunged them into.

The record of performance of Gen Buhari as the Head of State and chairman Petroleum Trust Fund is convincing that he’s the right person for the job and Nigerians are in cognizance of that. INEC recently said there may be no election in the troubled North-East of Nigeria but will ensure Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) were allowed to vote, do you think as Diaspora Nigerians it is healthy for the 2015 elections? It is the constitutional right of all Nigerians to be able to vote and be voted for.

Government has to put all apparatus required in place to ensure no citizen is disenfranchised of their constitutional right. It is actually unhealthy if certain group are not allowed to vote. With grave security concerns in the country don’t you think the 2015 elections should be postponed? I think that is the more reason the election should be conducted. The whole world knows that the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan is not serious about fighting the insurgency.

Despite the huge amount expended by his administration on the defence, the officers blame their inefficiency in combating the terror group on lack of proper weapon which was confirm by the United State military and the Australian negotiator, Dr. Stephen Davis. Nigeria needs a leader that will sincerely take the insurgency Heads-on. Gen Buhari has done it before and can surely do it again. He defended Nigeria against the attack of Chad republic and the Maitatsine terror group.

Election should be conducted and hopefully President Jonathan will be voted out and Nigeria can begin to gather herself together. What are Diaspora Nigerians doing to support INEC to conduct credible and accepted elections in Nigeria? The current administration is not making use of the enormous resources available in Nigerians in Diaspora as a result a lot of people in that category is watching the developments in Nigeria from the distance. However, we are reaching out to the electorates, enlightening them on the importance of peaceful conduct during and after election. We are educating them on the need to go out to vote and ensure their votes count. We are hoping the INEC, under the leadership of professor Attahiru Jega will their game

Business / 6 Simple Steps To Become A Millionaire At The Age Of 25 by kachysblog(f): 7:29am On Jan 29, 2015
You probably have a dream, one where you are 25-year-old millionaire. But sometimes, it seems inachievable because you may be overwhelmed with having to manage the funds you have at hand at the moment.

These 5 simple tips can help you achieve that dream:

1. Live Below Your Means

You can’t build wealth if you spend more money than you save. Always put out a certain amount of money into your savings consistently, and you’ll see yourself gradually building wealth that would sustain you over time....

2. Stay In Your Financial Lane

Just because everyone around you is driving the latest cars, using the latest gadgets and wearing the most expensive clothes, kicks and gears, does not mean that you should do too, especially if you can’t afford it and have to borrow or spend all you’ve got on it. Everyone has a financial lane, stay in yours.

3. Invest Every Windfall

Chances are that a deal you are involved in could pull through and you are left with a lot of money in your hands. It is wise to invest such windfall especially as it is money that you were not expecting, which means you could have been alright without it anyway. So why not put the money in a good investment that would yield good returns for you.

4. Continually Invest Small Amounts of Money

You don’t necessarily have to wait till you have a windfall or you have a lot of money before you invest. Investing small amount of money at regular intervals is a good way to not get whipsawed by the stock market’s volatility. And when you live below your means by not upgrading your lifestyle every time you get a raise or promotion, you have more and more money to invest.

5. Contribute to Retirement Accounts

Find out if your employer offers a retirement plan and ensure to participate in it. If that is not available at your work place, you can open such account on your own and start saving for your retirement. It is never too early to start.

6. Pay Attention to Your Investments

No one else is going to take care of your own investments other than yourself. So pay attention to them, ask questions when necessary. This will enable you to be aware of your growth or loss, so as to know what follow up actions to take.

Politics / Between Fashola & Jimi Agbaje - Agbaje Firm Owes Lagos N1.6m Tax by kachysblog(f): 6:15am On Jan 29, 2015
Lagos State governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola, SAN, yesterday, accused Jaykay Pharmacy, owned and managed by the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Mr. Jimi Agbaje of owing the state N1.6m as unpaid land use charges. But in a swift reaction, Mr Agbaje faulted the claims made by the governor that his company defaulted in the payment of the land use charge.

Reacting to the allegation, Agbaje said the governor lied, saying “I have even been commended for paying my Land Use Charge on time.” Fashola made the disclosure at the 8th Annual Lagos State taxation Stakeholders’ Conference held in Ikeja.....

Fashola, who explained that Land Use Charge, LUC, was a consolidated tax combining ground rent and tenement rate, said: “Tax is prescribed by the 1999 constitution. It states that it shall be the duty of every citizen to declare its income to the appropriate and lawful agency; and pay the required tax promptly.”

Accusing Agbaje’s pharmacy of defaulting in the payment of land use charge to the coffers of the state, the governor said, “you will remember that in 2007, he (Jimi Agbaje) claimed that he was in Democratic People’s Alliance, DPA and later crossed to PDP. You know that he (Agbaje) manages a pharmacy called Jaykay Pharmacy, located at 9, Randle Close, Apapa Local Government. His pharmacy has not paid Land Use Charge for 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 respectively; it amounts to N1, 629, 064.62.”

Speaking further, he said; “let us do that mathematics to see how many facilities the fund would have provided in our hospitals and stationery in our schools. But this was the same person who was complaining that the state government spent three per cent of its budget on Primary education. Local Government is responsible for the management of the primary schools and yet he has withheld their taxes.”

The governor declared that the pharmacy paid LUC in 2013 and 2014 because the management and the candidate of the PDP realized that the election would be holding in 2015.

Fashola said: “I know that you have to vote next month but look at that candidate that would need to take over from me and be careful of who you vote for. This is the man who wants to be your next governor. I will advice you that you avoid deception and tax evaders.” Explaining the importance of taxation, the governor said: “The payment of tax is the first principle of the social contracts between the government and the citizens. It is an irreducible legal minimum of citizenship and breach of this responsibility is a criminal offence under our law.”

In addition, he said: “All those who have paid their taxes have shown that they are lawful citizens. Anyone who has failed to pay tax is a bad citizen. He is also a cheat, such a person benefits from the commonwealth-the roads, hospitals and other facilities provided by funds generated from taxes paid by the residents.”

Lagos Chief Judge on tax cases

Meantime, the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Oluwafunmilayo Atilade has disclosed that 600 tax cases were prosecuted in year 2014.

Atilade said: “We dealt with 600 cases, but the important thing with these cases was that it showed increase in compliance.”

She noted that some of the cases were not completed because the defaulters complied, saying “the prosecution led to the recovery of hundreds of millions for the state government.”

Notable personalities present at the conference include the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu 1, former Minister of Industry, Dr. Onikepo Akande among others.

TV/Movies / Are These Two Nollywoods The Highest Grossing Box Office Actors? (photo) by kachysblog(f): 5:57am On Jan 27, 2015
OC Ukeje & Majid. They are both very good looking and deliver superb acting performances film after film particularly on the big screen. Before you start to think this post is about how much they command in acting fees and or royalties generated from financial returns on films, it isn’t…..rather it is about their likeability, influence on a film and religious following been converted into financial performance at the Nigerian box office through film ticket sales (which is the clearest indicator yet of how well a film does or can do in Nigeria)….

OC & Majid have been very consistent over the last 3 years and have starred in a number of either critically acclaimed or box office smash hit films‎. Majid was the biggest star in 2014 starring in 5 of the top 10 films last year namely knocking on Heaven’s door, Brother’s Keeper, Being Mrs Elliot, Champagne and 30 Days in Atlanta.

OC had success with Half of a Yellow Sun (though a small role) and When Love Happens but his body of work since 2012 has been outstanding no wonder why 2015 has started strongly for him with Funny comedy ‘Gone Too Far’ which was a Top 20 hit when it was released in the UK last October, making OC an instant international cross over star. A post for another day ‘How come a Ghanian Actor is the highest grossing actor in Nollywood?’

Politics / Gani Adams: Buhari Should Forget Votes From South-west, We Don't Trust Hausa/ful by kachysblog(f): 6:42pm On Jan 26, 2015
Chief Gani Adams, factional leader of Odua People’s Congress (OPC), says Muhammadu Buhari wont win the south-west en masse in the February 14 presidential election, adding, we don’t trust a Hausa/fulani man from the north, reports Nigeria today.

I dont think that south-west is APC states. South-west is a place that you cannot use the media to deceive. We are highly exposed and highly educated,” he told Nigeria Today.

Dont forget the pain caused by the June 12 annulment, it is still fresh in the mind of our people,as many died in the cause of June 12 struggle, many lost a lot of properties, he noted….

Adams further said, “I dont think our people will trust a Hausa/Fulani man from the north this time around.”

Also Frederick Faseun, leader of another faction of OPC and founder of the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN), has already thrown his weight behind Jonathan, with UPN adopting the president as its candidate.

Health / A Must Read! Sugar Should Be Regulated..triggers Cholesterol, HBP, Heart Dis... by kachysblog(f): 2:10pm On Jan 19, 2015
Researches have shown that sugar can cause teeth decay, obesity and diabetes and could also trigger high cholesterol, high blood pressure, heart disease, and possibly cancer. VICTOR OKEKE writes on the need to exercise caution and regulate the sweet poison .
A group of progressive medical researchers have argued that sugar acts as a toxin in the body and it’s responsible for not only the body’s rising rates of diabetes and obesity but increases incidences of heart diseases, cancer, and other chronic illnesses, while pushing for its regulation.
Because sugar is so prevalent in food today – in obvious items like ice cream, cookies, and soda, as well as in “healthy” foods like crackers, energy bars, and salad dressings –Experts contend that most people are living in toxic overload.....

“Sugar is the biggest public health crisis in the history of the world,” says Dr. Robert Lustig, an endocrinologist at the University of California. In an opinion paper published this year in the journal Nature, Lustig and colleagues provoked debate when they stated that sugar is so harmful, it should be regulated like alcohol and tobacco. “Every substance of abuse – cocaine, heroin, you name it – has required personal or social intervention,” says Lustig.
“For sugar, we have nothing, and my prediction is that we will need both.” Sugar triggers a toxic chain of reactions in the body that produce harmful fats, hormones, and other metabolic by-products. At first blush, this anti-sugar advocacy may seem alarmist. But Lustig and his University of California colleagues argue that sugar is harmful in significant amounts – not necessarily because it’s high in calories but rather because it triggers a toxic chain of reactions in the body that produce harmful fats, hormones, and other metabolic by-products.
Sugar is found in nearly every food except meat, oil, and butter. But there’s a big difference between the sugars that occurs naturally in raw, unprocessed foods like fruits, vegetables, milk, and whole grains and the type added to prepared or processed foods. Added sugars include every sweetener imaginable: white sugar, brown sugar, corn syrup, high-fructose corn syrup, dextrose, honey, agave nectar. It’s these added sugars that experts say are the root cause of our sugar problem because high amounts of them are found in almost every food we eat, most of which are also high in calories and devoid of nutrients. “Nature made sugar hard to get, but man made it easy,” he said.
Among all the different types of sugar, fructose may be the most harmful, many experts believe. Fructose is found naturally in small amounts in fruit, but is also combined with glucose (the other basic sugar molecule) to make nearly every type of commercial sweetener, including table sugar and high-fructose corn syrup. Why is fructose so harmful?
“It’s primarily metabolized by the liver,” so when you eat it, it’s processed and then stays in your liver and starts producing harmful blood fats called triglycerides.
Sugars that don’t contain fructose, on the other hand, like pure glucose and corn syrup, are processed by the liver and then sent out into the bloodstream, whether you need the fuel or not. Eat enough fructose and build enough triglycerides, and the result can be a fatty liver and insulin resistance – when the body can’t produce enough insulin to break down the sugar you eat.
For years, researchers have known that insulin resistance can lead to weight gain and diabetes. More recently, though, they’ve also discovered that it can cause heart disease, in part because eating too much sugar suppresses “good” HDL cholesterol.
Unfortunately, exercise can’t entirely save you from the negative effects sugar has on the body. While exercise may improve your cholesterol numbers by a few points, it’s usually not enough to bring levels into a healthy range. “If you are a thin, active person, having a diet high in sugar is still harmful,” says Vos. If you are an athlete, you may not want to cut out sugar entirely, especially before and during hard workouts.
“There is some evidence for the super-athlete that small amounts of fructose are good,” says Dr. Richard Johnson, a nephrologist at the University of Colorado, noting that the effect is beneficial only when sugar is consumed in moderate amounts before or after intense activities.
To gauge that limit, start scanning the nutrition labels of the packaged products you eat every day for at least one week. Add up your daily intake, keeping in mind that four grams of sugar on a food label is equivalent to one teaspoon of sugar. If you exceed nine teaspoons on a regular basis – and most men do – start by substituting lower-sugar options for foods that shouldn’t taste sweet, like crackers and salad dressings.

Business / Linda Ikeji To Kick Start Her 'i'd Rather Be Self-made' N10million Campaign by kachysblog(f): 2:02pm On Jan 19, 2015
One of the most popular Nigerian Blogger Linda Ikeji will be kick starting her campaign on tutoring and helping young girls in getting off the streets and fend for themselves in a genuine manner. That's thoughtful of you Lin. Thumbs up! Hear her below:
In 2013, I told y'all that I'm going to start something called 'I'd Rather Be Self-made'... where I will personally mentor young girls with dreams and aspirations and help some of them start up small scale businesses. I've been procrastinating for over a year & a half and now I am finally ready to do this.....
'I'd Rather Be Self-made' is not a foundation, or an organization (I can't handle that - blogging takes too much of my time), it's just me and some young ladies meeting whenever we can, inspire each other, exchange business ideas, and if I feel someone has a great business idea and it's not going to cost too much to start the business, I will personally finance it. Not as a loan, it's 100% to the person. I'm looking at N250k to N1million per person, depending on how great the business idea is. If you need less, you will get the money faster...:-). I'll also use LIB to promote your businesses. All I want in return is for you to work hard, make a success of your business and pay it forward...i.e help others. And if you ever see me on the street after you make it, you can say hello or give me a hug...:-)

What prompted me to think of doing this is my own story and the lifestyle of some young girls. It's quite unfortunate and sad. I went to University of Lagos, I was once a model and a model manager, so I have seen some things girls do for money and it breaks my heart. Some, if I told you, you will never believe. And now that I can afford to help a few girls, I am willing to help with my own money. The aim of 'I'd Rather Be Self-made' is to reduce 'Aristorism' by at least 1%...:-). Please continue...

So I'm putting aside N10million for this - to start with - and release more money if everything goes well.

If you're between 18 and 26, female (sorry guys - want to concentrate on the women for now), you are looking for inspiration, you want to start a business and need financing or already have a business but need more money to expand, or you just need business advice, then come and let's do this.

Obviously, I can't help everyone. It's not possible. But I will help as many young women as I can - this is something I plan to do for as long as I can - so hopefully, many of you will benefit.

I'm interested in girls who have vowed not to sell their bodies to make it in life (because you really don't. All that 'I don't have a choice' is BS. Trust me, I've tasted poverty like some of you will never know and I never did). I'm also interested in girls who are living that lifestyle right now but would rather not, and want out desperately.

You're going to personally meet with me and other inspiring Nigerian women who made it on their own without ever having to lie on their backs. Trust me, there are many of us. You can be one too, so let's do this.

We are going to meet this weekend for the first time. So if you're interested, please call 07051229040. But let me repeat this. I can't help everyone. It's not possible. But I promise to help as many as I can. I definitely want to do this because I want to give back...God doesn't bless you for you alone or your family, he gives us so we can pay forward and touch as many lives as we can with his blessings. That's my belief, so I'm really excited to do this.

Once you call that number, she will tell you where we're going to meet this weekend. I can't announce it here before 10,000 people show up...lol. And please, females only! :-)

All the best people...and yes, you can be self-made! Look at me, I was broke at 30...and now I'm 34 and I have small change...lol.

Meanwhile, there's a story that I want to share with you guys...but too tired to type it this night. Will do so tomorrow maybe. It's a story I have never told before and it's one of the sad moments in my life that inspired 'I'd Rather Be Self-made'. Probably the saddest day of my life. Will share that tomorrow.

Cheers people!

Politics / Re: Pastor Adeboye - I Hate Politicians..they Are Liars by kachysblog(f): 10:09pm On Jan 16, 2015
Do you think daddy Adeboye is somehow sending a message to one of his pastors under APC platform(Pro. Osinbajo) with this message? Tell us your thoughts
kachysblog:
The General Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye on Friday stated that he does not trust Politicians. Pastor Adeboye stated this at a two day interdenominational prayer session held at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile ife. He said politicians in most cases hardly fulfill their promises.

Pastor Adeboye justified his position by telling a story of three travellers – an Indian, a Jew and a politician. He narrated that while on their journey, the three travellers had some challenges, and went to a farmer for help but the farmer said he could only accommodate two. He said the Indian volunteered to sleep in the barn but returned a few minutes later that there was a cow there....

The Indian, said he can’t sleep there because cows are gods, worshipped in his country. The Jew also came back complaining that the pig inside where he was placed was unclean, but when the politician volunteered to go and sleep among the pigs. Instead of the politician to come back complaining, it was the pig and cow that came knocking, asking the politician be sent away because he had promised to make the environment, including the barn, conducive with air-conditioner.

Pastor Adeboye said “I don’t trust politicians; politicians are liars. They don’t fulfil most of their promises. A politician can tell you that they will give all of you (students) chicken each, which we all know it is impossible.” Pastor Adeboye advised Nigerians to stop worrying themselves about who would emerge winner in the next election, as God is a “master planner,” who already planned the leadership development of Nigeria. He said, “Stop disturbing yourself about who will be the President of Nigeria. God has already planned who will be the President of Nigeria. God has already planned that before we were born. God is not like human beings, who doubts what is to be done. He has plan for everything.” The Vice-Chancellor of OAU, Prof. Bamitale Omole, commended Adeboye for his yearly presence in the university, saying his divine intervention were having positive impacts in the school. “We appreciate the love of Pastor Adeboye. With God and his presence last year, we had no calamities and also emerged as the best university in Nigeria. I urge students to be prayerful and cautious of what they do as God will continue to protect us,” he said.

Politics / Babatunde Fashola Pleads For 54 Sconvicted Soldiers On Allegation Of Mutiny by kachysblog(f): 7:47am On Jan 13, 2015
Soldiers tasked with fighting Boko Haram militants arrive to face trials for mutiny in Abuja on October 2, 2014. Nearly 100 soldiers tasked with fighting Boko Haram militants in Nigeria's far northeast appeared at a military court martial on Thursday, facing a range of charges including mutiny. The hearing comes just weeks after a tribunal sentenced 12 soldiers to death following their conviction for shooting at their commanding officer in the Borno state capital, Maiduguri, in May. AFP PHOTO

Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola has urged the Nigerian Military authorities to re-consider the death sentence passed on the 54 soldiers as disciplinary measure for misconduct in the ongoing fight against insurgency in the country.

Fashola made the appeal at the Interdenominational Service to mark year 2015 Armed Force Remembrance Day, held at The Chapel of Christ The Light, Alausa, Ikeja.
The governor who was represented by the Commissioner for Home Affairs and Culture, Mr. Oyinlomo Danmole, stated that the military authorities and the Federal Government should reconsider the death sentence and commute it to jail terms.....

While recognizing the need for the Military to sustain its paramount code of ethics as it relates to discipline and strict adherence to rule of engagement, the governor, however, stressed that he believes the officers and men involved are now sober and therefore deserved to be forgiven with the reduction in the punishment pronounced.
He noted that the call for leniency is not to justify their actions but to plead with the government to reduce the gravity of the punishment and not make it greater than their offence.
Fashola also urged Nigerians to continue to support the families of soldiers who have made the supreme sacrifice and those with life-time injuries in the service of our country by donating towards their upkeep.
Earlier, Brigadier General Dalubo, Commander, 9 Brigade of Nigeria Army, representative of the Nigeria Military at the service, stated that the Federal Government set aside January 15 as Remembrance Day and dedicate this period to the remembrance of our fallen heroes who had paid the supreme price for the unity of the nation.
He emphasized that Nigeria will always remember the contribution of our fallen heroes and will do everything in its power to support and cater for the families they left behind.

Nairaland / General / We’ve Not Received Reports Of Threat To Fr Mbaka’s Life – POLICE by kachysblog(f): 6:59am On Jan 07, 2015
The Enugu State Police command has refuted claims by Enugu-based Catholic priest who is also the founder of Adoration Ministry, Enugu, Rev. Father Camillus Ejike Mbaka, that his life is in danger.

The cleric had alleged that some people were threatening his life after he blasted President Goodluck Jonathan’s government on New Year eve.

He had claimed that Mr. President Jonathan surrounded himself with very corrupt public officials, hence he turned blind eye to their corrupt activities while millions of Nigerians were suffering daily in abject poverty and endless insecurity.

Mbaka made the declaration while delivering a sermon tagged, “From Good luck to Bad luck” during the end-of-year Adoration mass which held from night till dawn at the Adoration Ground, Emene, Enugu.

But reacting to the cleric alleged threat to his life, Enugu state Police command, dismissed the claims as baseless insisting that ‘if’ Mbaka’s life was in danger, he should have reported to the Police for appropriate action.

Nairaland / General / Photos:fire Gutted Properties Worth Of Millions Of Naira In Abuja by kachysblog(f): 7:35am On Jan 06, 2015
Tragedy struck in Abuja yesterday as properties worth millions of naira were destroyed by a massive fire at Mpape in Abuja. The fire, which gutted a residential building near Grange Hotel, started at around 4 p.m. and was said to have been caused by fire in a nearby bush.

According to an eyewitness, a taxi driver named Shuaib, thick smoke emerging from the building prompted him to stop and help occupants. “When I got to the house I met only the gateman sleeping at the security post. I had to hit the window with a stone and call for his attention before he ran out and opened the gate. We tried to put out the fire but we did not succeed as it was heavily blazing, consuming everything before the arrival of the firefighters.” More pics after the cut….

It was learnt that the occupants of the house travelled during the holiday period and have not returned.
At the time of this report the building was still smoldering, as fire fighters were still battling to put out the fire. Some of the sympathizers blamed the incident on the late arrival of the firefighters, saying that Mpape is about a ten-minute drive from Abuja. It reportedly took firefighters more than an hour before they arrived the scene.

Romance / Amazing Guiding Principles For Relationship In 2015 by kachysblog(f): 10:37am On Jan 03, 2015
Having a successful relationship starts with knowing who you are completely. You can’t fully love someone, if you are still questioning who you are, or what you could possibly bring to the table. 2014 was a year of learning and transition for many people, and if you are ready to step into 2015 with a roadmap for love, we wish you much success. We’d like to share 7 Guiding Principles for Having Amazing Relationships in 2015:

1. Know who you are

Get to know yourself, get God’s view of yourself and live by that, says Tatianah Green in Singles: How are You “Actively Waiting” for Marriage?

When you make the decision to be single and actively wait for God’s plan to unfold, you’re excited to pursue His plan for your life and not deciding to worry about marriage.

2. Be open to change with the time comes

You wondered when would you become involved in a relationship? You have imagined it, dreamed about it (and even prayed about it) and now the time is here! In 5 Steps for Transitioning from Being Single into a Relationship, Michelle Cameron ask what are some ways where your life must adjust to accommodate the growing relationship?

You may have been single for a long time and have gotten used to a routine where you are doing the things you need to do or want to do on your own schedule without a thought.

3. Know When to Walk Away

Sometimes we stay to long. “But I love him!” I hear many women say. Unfortunately, love isn’t a good enough reason to stay in a relationship says Aesha Roberts in, 3 Signs that You Should Call it Quits in a Relationship.

“Every second you spend with the wrong one is a second you’re not with “The One.”

4. We Are All Works in Progress

Writer, Tatianah Green, shares in 10 Things to get ‘Delivert’ from by 2015, we have God’s grace to cover our mistakes and she prays that we all get the wisdom to not make them again. With that being said, it’s time to start declaring with your powerful words, what you will and will not do in 2015 as a single.

No excuses for not enjoying life before you get married. “Oh I’ll wait to go to Paris ‘til I get married,” no—time to plan that trip in your single season! In this season of waiting, you should also be working and preparing.

5. Don’t Rush to the Alter

I have known of many singles over the years who rushed to get married, says Michelle Cameron in 8 Reasons Why Singles Rush to the Altar and 3 Ways to Make It Last. For some, it worked out well and they have been together for many years, but for many, rushing to marry was a disaster waiting to happen.

Surround yourselves with mentors and advisers who can caution you if you are about to make a serious mistake by getting married quickly. Marriage is intended to last forever. Do all you can before exchanging vows to lay a strong foundation for a healthy marriage.

6. Know Where You Stand in a Relationship

In Why You Should Talk about the Relationship Status before You Become Intimate a reader reveals she became intimate too soon and now questions where her relationship stands. Tiya Cunningham-Sumter, quickly gave her reassurance about her decision and offered great words of advice.

No matter how funky it feels, you cheat yourself when you don’t share what it is you want. If they don’t desire the same thing, at least you know and you can move forward. But if they do, you can begin to develop that committed partnership.

7. Develop Healthy Relationships

Past failed relationships may have long-term negative effects on individuals if they lack healthy coping skills. Dr. Buckingham says, a damaged heart and loss of trust is difficult to repair in What 5 Steps Can a Single Woman Take to Develop Healthy Relationships?

Despite the personal challenges we might face, in regards to developing relationships, we must not forget that anything worth having, is worth working for.

Family / Photo: Refugee Father Uses Daughter As Collateral For N600,000 Loan by kachysblog(f): 1:25pm On Dec 31, 2014
A refugee father, Edet Okon who had fled his ancestral home in Efut Obot Ikot in the ceded Bakassi Peninsula in March 2013 when Cameroonian gendermanes attacked the village in which a lot of indigenes lost their lives and scores sustained varying degrees of life-threatening injuries. This led Edet Okon and his family to a dusty village in Akwa Ikot Eyo Edem, Cross Rivers State where there story even went worse.

Shortly after they began living as a refugee there, Edet discovered his first daughter was down with blood cancer and he didn’t want her to juts die unattended too. So he decided to use his 12-year old daughter, Mary as collateral to borrow N600,000 from a man in calabar. The girl later died, and 19months after, he is yet to pay the said money, which has made Mary to be living in agony with her father’s creditor. Continue below to read the rest of the story as reported by Punch after the cut…….

His daughter now a collateral

Okon, who joined our correspondent on a tour of the overcrowded refugee camps, appeared less bothered about the life of squalor they now lead.

The fisherman lost his first daughter, Blessing, to the cold hands of death in September 2013, after battling with blood cancer for five months.

But Okon’s agony did not end with Blessing’s death. Indeed, he now lives in the pool of the anguish of a man who has to practically sell his child into slavery. To raise funds for the series of medical tests, drugs, feeding and hospital bills incurred by Blessing, he opted to secure loans from someone to save her dying daughter.

With no property to guarantee the loan, Okon gave up his second daughter, Mary, as collateral to secure the sum of N600, 000 given to him in installments.

Our correspondent gathered that the creditor is a civil servant based in Calabar.

“I was desperate to save Blessing from dying. Her situation had become critical at that time. That was the only thing I could do to salvage the situation. I am heartbroken,” Okon said, as his voice faded off, breaking down in tears.

As tears rolled down his cheeks, he recalled the day he ‘sold’ her daughter into servitude.

“I don’t know what came over me. It was sheer desperation I gave out my daughter so that the man would accept to give us the money,” Okon added, fighting back regrets of what many are likely to regard as condemnable.

Ufot

Our correspondent reached out to the intermediary, Daniel Ufot. He helped Okon to negotiate the N600, 000 loan from the creditor. On getting to the residence of the 59-year-old Ufot, who lives some five kilometres away from the camp, our correspondent found Mary in his residence.

Ufot explained that some plain-cloth security operatives keeping watch on the camp had asked him to bring Mary from Calabar to meet with his father who he had not seen in 19 months.

“I do not know Okon from Adam. But since I’m an expert in money lending, I offered to help him after having learnt of his predicament on how he had been battling to save the life of his daughter.

“But unfortunately, he could not provide any form of collateral to secure the loan. But the creditor, in his magnanimity, agreed to have her daughter as collateral since she was the only valuable ‘thing’ he could offer,” Ufot said.

In a chat with this correspondent, Mary, who was a junior secondary school 2 pupil before they left Bakassi in March, 2013, has since dropped out of school following their displacement from the oil rich peninsular. She shared horrible tales of inhuman treatment in the hands of her father’s creditor.

Every morning, Mary hawks bottle water on the streets of Calabar, where, incidentally, Mary Slessor stopped the killing of twins. Observers may also spot the irony in the name of the legendary missionary and the enslaved Mary Okon. She added that on any day she failed to exhaust the sales of her wares, her new guardians descended heavily on her, beating her mercilessly in the process.

“The man my father is owing has three female children and some other relatives are also putting up with us in the house. They normally give me a revenue target of N1, 000 daily.

“And sometimes when the market is bad and I don’t finish selling the water, they beat me up. They treat me very badly. I eat only once in a day and that is in the morning.

“I wash all their clothes, including the ladies’ pants, and do other house chores, too. And if I hesitate on washing their pants, they get infuriated and throw objects at me at will. I will not feel happy if I go back there,” she narrated.

Yet, Ufot insisted that he only brought Mary to meet with his father as a respite since he had not set his eyes on her for about 19 months.
