Nairaland / General / Photo: Festac Sewage System Gush Out Dangerous Waste - Punch by kachysblog(f): 1:06pm On Aug 17, 2015
According to reports, a member of the House of Representatives who also is a resident of Festac Town, Mr. Oghene Emma-Egoh has lamented the poor state of the area, calling it ”a disaster waiting to happen”

The lawmaker warned of possible epidemics in FESTAC owing to the near total collapse of infrastructure, particularly the sewage system. and is calling on Federal government to come in and save Festac and it’s satellite town before it escalated.

FESTAC Town is a federal housing estate on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway in Lagos,

FESTAC means Festival of Arts and Culture, and the estate was constructed to house the participants of the festival in 1977. It was subsequently allocated and sold to Nigerians after the festival

But Emma-Egoh, who represents Amuwo Odofin Federal Constituency, complained that in spite of collecting all manner of rates and levies from residents in the area, both the federal and the Lagos governments cared less about the decay in the town and its surroundings.

He recalled that he had earlier moved a motion on the problem on the floor of the House on Wednesday, as part of the efforts to get the Federal Government to rescue FESTAC Town.

The House, in a resolution, had called on the Federal Government and its agency, the Federal Housing Authority of Nigeria, to begin the “immediate rehabilitation of FESTAC Town.”

Emma-Egoh said, “This estate has been built for over 40 years and as we speak, there are no functional infrastructure. Today, the Federal Government collects tenement rates from residents in FESTAC, while the Lagos State Government also collects land charges.

“There is no single firefighting vehicle in the place. If there is any fire incident in FESTAC, it will be a total disaster.

“So, given its importance as one of the oldest housing estates and satellite towns in Lagos, it is important to rehabilitate the area.”

He noted that the condition of roads in the estate had become deplorable, while residents no longer had access to potable water.

The lawmaker said, “The central sewage systems in the estate are no longer functional. They now gush out dangerous wastes into the open at uncontrollable rate and the drainages are no longer flowing and have become the habitat for giant mosquitoes.

“This situation can lead to the outbreak of an epidemic.”

Nairaland / General / Peep This! Women Don’t Skip Breakfast If You Want A Male Child by kachysblog(f): 7:33pm On Aug 16, 2015
According to new reports and scientists claim, mothers who skip breakfast around the time they conceive only have 45 percent likelihood of having a male child-compared to the usual 51 percent.

So, women hoping to give birth to boys should make sure they get a proper breakfast so they can be at a better chance to have one.

Researchers from Northwestern University, Illinois say it could be down to lower levels of glucose in the blood, affecting male more than female.

Hmmm? Could it be why my last baby was a girl, because my skipping of breakfast that period na die….

Nairaland / General / Photos: Auchi Poly Off Campus Building Razed Down By Fire Yesterday by kachysblog(f): 6:59am On Aug 16, 2015
The fire broke out in Auchi Polytechnic off campus, along Sabo road in the earliest morning of Saturday and wrecked havoc as the burning inferno lasted up to 6 hours. It started around 1:am in the morning and burnt through to 6:am

The unfortunate incident which fortunately no life was lost, have rendered many students homeless with most of their credentials burn to ashes. The building which has about self-contained 15 rooms apartment was fully razed down as they were no fire brigade on sight.

The students try all they could to put off the fire, but was only able to prevent it from touching near-by buildings by putting off the power supply in the whole community.

Pardon me, the photos are not too bright for they were taken at earliest morning. See photos below...

Politics / 'bring Down Boko Haram In 3 Months' - Buhari Charges New Service Chiefs by kachysblog(f): 6:52pm On Aug 13, 2015
President Mohamadu Buhari on Thursday charged the new Service Chiefs to synergize with other nation’s security apparatus and hunt down Boko Haram insurgents within the next three months.

The president said that that would be the only way the new military helmsmen would justify the confidence resposed in them by his government.

In a brief but colourful swearing in ceremony of the service chiefs performed at the presidential Villa, Abuja, president Buhari noted that the activities of the insurgents have claimed many lives and destroyed the economic lives of the people.

“I want to reiterate that your appointments and subsequent elevation to these ranks are based on your pedigree as first class senior officers who identify sterling leadership qualities. Therefore I have no doubt in my mind that all of you are equal to the task ahead of you. You must acquaint yourselves and justify the honour done to you.

Business / Traders At Alade Market Gets 6o-days Quit Notice… by kachysblog(f): 4:32pm On Aug 12, 2015
Traders at the ‘controversial’ Alade market has been issued a 60-day ultimatum by the Ikeja Local Government Council to vacate the market in order to make way for re-development of the market.

According to Mr. Adekunle Adeokun who is the Executive Secretary of the 16-man committee constituted: “We have waited for five years. We agreed to build 200 more shops to accommodate all legal traders in the alternative market. We plan to reconstruct two roads to avoid traffic congestion in the area within the time frame. We have agreed to build a bridge that enables customers and traders to enter and exit the market from Oregun Road.”..

However, the executive secretary pointed out that few concerned traders “are still resisting our plan to re-develop Alade Market to the true status of Africa’s model megacity despite all we have put in place to ensure their successful relocation.”

Adeokun explained that the council had already directed all the owners of shops and concerned traders “to quit within a period of two months.

Politics / ‘pyrates Confraternity Isn’t A Cult’ – Co-founder, Prof. Soyinka by kachysblog(f): 3:37pm On Aug 12, 2015
While speaking in an interview with Zero Tolerance on issues bordering on Buhari and his predecessor Jonathan, the Nobel Laurate said that Pyrates Confraternity which he was a pioneer is no secret cult. He said: Pyrates Confraternity isn’t a cult. The pioneer Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, chairman, who is believed to have co-founded the Pyrates Confraternity in Nigeria, said it was wrong to lump cultism with confraternity, arguing that the two were not the same. According to him, belonging to confraternities is a normal culture in colleges and not an evil cult, as wrongly portrayed by ignorant persons in Nigeria. Soyinka said:

“Everybody knows that fraternities are a normal culture in all colleges. It exists in all colleges. President Clinton was a member of a fraternity. In fact, anybody who goes to college in the United States is a member of a college fraternity. There is absolutely nothing evil or occultic about fraternity. “But here, the media is largely responsible for fuelling the ignorance of society of the words ‘cultism’ and ‘fraternity’.

This is a disservice and I have said it again and again. There are evil cults, whose members must prove themselves by going to rape. There are others whose entry is to slash or eat somebody or rob; it has nothing to do with college fraternity. “The media owes the responsibility to constantly tell the public the truth. But they go on and children grow up, believing that college fraternity is Satanic, demonic and this is wrong.”

Crime / Photos: See how Thieves Extract pin numbers from ATM with card skimmers.... by kachysblog(f): 11:30am On Aug 11, 2015
The photos below captured bank card skimmers found in an ATM at bank. The device has two parts: “One of them goes over the slot where you insert the card. The other one has a camera that records the PIN number,” Clemens says. “And they record that, and they’re able to get the data from the swiped card but then also they have the PIN number, and that’s how they access it.”

To be on a safer side, "even if there’s nobody around, it’s still a good idea to place a hand above the keypad when you’re entering your PIN number, just on the off-chance that there is a skimmer that’s been installed on there and you don’t notice it. They’d have your card information, but they wouldn’t have your PIN number,”

Nairaland / General / Lecturer Collapsed In Osun As State Govt. Paid N150 Into His Acct Against N150k by kachysblog(f): 1:52pm On Aug 08, 2015
According to reports, a tertiary institution lecturer in Osun state on Thursday, 6th August reportedly collapsed inside a bank located within the school premises. Eye witness said, the lecturer fainted after discovering that his account had only been credited with N150 by the state government as 50% of his February salary against the supposed N150,000…. The lecturer, a post-graduate student at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, was said to have lamented, after being resuscitated by the bank’s officials, that the money paid by the government into his account could not even transport him to Akure, where he was billed to write an examination. He was said to have added that he had some outstanding fees to pay at the university which he had proposed to pay with the expected salary. The lecturer was however admitted into a private hospital in Osogbo where his blood pressure, which had increased as a result of the shocking discovery in his account, was being managed.

Nairaland / General / See The 13 Signs That Shows Your Man Is Still Into His Ex by kachysblog(f): 7:38am On Aug 08, 2015
If you are troubled by the quicksand of sappy emotions your man has for his ex flame, you might not be alone.

Now, if he’s still in love with his ex, what the heck is he doing with you? If a guy tells you that he still thinks of his ex fondly, you could admire his honesty and then you can kick him out to the curb.

But what do you do when he says he’s over his ex, but you still don’t believe him?

Getting over an ex is never easy. If you’ve been in a passionate relationship that had to end, you’d know how hard it is to get over a special someone. While it’s not easy to forget someone you once loved, there’s a thin line between forgetting someone and staying in love with them…..

If your boyfriend still loves his ex, chances are, he still wants to get back with his ex, and that is definitely not something you should put up with. You’re not a rebound girl nor are you his nanny to nurse his heart to good health so he can regain his broken heart pieces and pursue his ex again when he feels better.

If you see any of these behaviors in your new squeeze, it’s time to have that talk with him. Does he love you or is he still in love with his ex? Are you just a rebound or are you someone he truly loves?

After all, the start of a relationship is all about infatuation and lust. If he says he loves you, yet gets flustered when he sees his ex or spends all the time thinking of his ex, can he ever love you when all he does is dream of her?

See the 13 signs below….

#1 He talks about her all the time.

It doesn’t matter if he talks fondly of her or bitches about her all the time. If he thinks of her, he still has feelings for her. If a guy has come to terms with his break up, he won’t keep whining about it. He’ll get over it.

Only a guy who’s constantly bothered by thoughts of his ex would like ranting about it to his present girlfriend. If your boyfriend constantly finds ways to bring his ex into conversations without you initiating it, he’s definitely still missing her.

#2 His browser talks.

Unless your boyfriend is a sneaky ex lover, he’ll definitely leave a few signs now and then on his computer or phone. If your boyfriend’s browser history shows that he’s been visiting his ex’s facebook or twitter account or her blog often, he’s definitely not over his ex.

So how much is too much? Checking up on an ex once a week is barely acceptable, but if he’s been frequenting his ex’s pages more often than that, you need to have that talk with him.

#3 He looks flustered when he bumps into her.

The next time you walk hand in hand with your boyfriend and bump into his ex, watch how he behaves. Does he let go of your hand immediately, or does he get flustered or mumble like an awkward prepubescent child? If his heart races or he starts sweating around his ex, she’s definitely been running marathons in his mind behind your back.

#4 He keeps in touch with her.

Ex’s don’t stay friends. Well, unless they’ve become sexless after a long boring relationship. There’s no good reason for ex’s to stay friends unless there’s something binding them. If your new boyfriend is good friends with his ex and frequently contacts her, you definitely have reason to worry.

#5 He gets annoyed when he hears that she’s dating someone new.

He’s dating you, he’s happy, but if he gets to know that she’s dating someone new and turns into an uncontrollable whining boy, he’s obviously pissed that she’s doing the deed with someone new. If he’s truly happy with you and has overpowered any strings of residual love, he shouldn’t be bothered if she dates someone else

#6 He’s her Man Friday.

Ex’s don’t have to stay friends, but they can still keep in touch with each other. But if your boyfriend behaves like her slave and is always ready to help her out of a spot, he’s definitely trying to stay in her good books for a reason. Only a guy who’s still in love will constantly try to help an ex out with her life, be it by being the handyman or someone to chauffeur her around.

#7 He enjoys getting teased with his ex.

Does your boyfriend stiffen a giggle when you pull his leg with his ex or when his friends tease him about a romantic incident involving his ex? Men don’t get shy, they get surly and angry when they’re being teased about a bad incident with an ex. Only lost and lovelorn lovers like fantasizing and talking about ex’s with a glazed look of happiness plastered over their faces. If your boyfriend loves hearing about his ex or getting teased with her, he obviously likes being associated with his ex even now.

#8 He still has her gifts or memories lying around the house.

A boyfriend who still holds a stuffed toy given by his ex while lying in bed is never good news for a new lover. Does your boyfriend have all her gifts placed neatly around the house? Does he still use the watch she gave him? And wait a minute, is that her toothbrush near his sink? Yes, you’re allowed to stick it up his romantic ass! Lol!!!

#9 It’s been less than three months since his break up.

Break ups take time to heal. If you’re in a relationship with a guy who’s broken up with his girlfriend less than three months ago, he’s definitely not forgotten about his ex already. And chances are, gasp, you’re his rebound girl even if he doesn’t know it himself.

#10 He clings onto her memories.

Do you find him clinging onto her memories when he thinks you’re not around? Does he hold something of hers or droolingly stare at her facebook page when he thinks you’ve left the room? Does he stare at an old text from her when you aren’t around? If you see your boyfriend dreamily staring at his ex’s face on his computer while tenderly moving his fingers across her image, walk out of his place and never walk back in again.

#11 He’s not ended the relationship yet.

This is a tricky place to be in. This is something you’ll come to experience if you steal a guy from his girlfriend. Was he still in a relationship when you wooed him away with your sexy ass? He may not have broken up with her yet, and even though he’s told you that he’s ended the relationship, he may still keep in touch with her.

His excuse? “It was such a big shock to her… I need to ease her out of loving me over time… You understand, don’t you, sweetheart?”

#13 He has her pictures.

Does your boyfriend have pictures of his ex on his computer or on his phone? Or perhaps, even lying around the house? That’s not good, but it’s acceptable as long as he understands to delete or move all those photos away onto a CD as soon as you voice your insecurity.

Does your new boyfriend have loads of his ex’s lovey notes and dirty talking texts? Seriously, which guy in his right mind keeps his ex’s old texts stored on his phone? There may be a huge list of texts, but deleting it is the right thing and only thing to do if he’s actually over her.

Nairaland / General / Photos: Groom Sues Wife To Court After Seeing Her Face Without Make-up..lol! by kachysblog(f): 6:12am On Aug 08, 2015
An anonymous groom sued and divorces his bride the next day for being extremely ugly after seeing her face without make-up for the first time.

The traumatized man thought he’d married the love of his life, a woman with inner and outer beauty, until he saw her not wearing her make-up….lolo, it was like the masquerade have removed the mask. So, now the man is suing her for fraud and trauma.

The anonymous man, who married his new wife in all her finery, apparently saw her in his room after the wedding and refused to …believe that she was his wife without her make-up.

After telling her to stop playing and asking where his wife was, the traumatized man realized this really was the woman he married.

Reports from Algeria, where the marriage took place, state that the bride played her cards very well..

Nairaland / General / Photo: All Men Come In Here, Do You Agree To This About Breast?? by kachysblog(f): 8:07am On Aug 07, 2015
Speaking yesterday at the World Breastfeeding Week (WBW). the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Lagos state university teaching hospital (LASUTH), Prof. Wale Oke has called on men to stop competing with their babies to suck their wives’ breast.

The programme was organised by LASUTH Community Health Department in conjunction with the hospital’s Pediatrics where Prof. Oke urged his fellow men to allow their babies to enjoy their natural meal…..
According to him, the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding were many.

He said: “When a mother breastfeeds her baby, it creates bond between them. It is also a natural family mechanism. Breast-feeding mothers do not have bone diseases, breast and ovarian cancers”.

Oke said the state had created an enabling environment for mothers with its policies to work and still feed their babies.

“Working and breastfeeding can go together if mothers try because it is necessary to have healthy babies,” he said.

Hmmm, will men agree to this one? I doubt…

Saw this on Twitter. Following the approval of #75billion loan to Edo state government by President Buhari, some people are wailing, telling Oshiomhole not to borrow again since he has only 6 months to vacate office and they are claiming it’s corruption at its peak.

You agree?

Politics / Saraki: Time To End Cold War...... by kachysblog(f): 8:28am On Aug 06, 2015
An article written by Comrade Timi Frank of Leadership.. Read below…

It is no longer a secret that since Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki was elected as the President of the 8th Senate on June 9, 2015, Predident Muhammadu Buhari has not officially engaged with him. Were Buhari to defer to precedent set by his predecessors, such interface between the Number One and Number Three would have taken place in the evening, on the day the National Assembly was inaugurated. Understandably, this did not happen because we are in a season of change….

The Presidents produced by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the one produced by the All Progressives Congress (APC) are poles apart in terms of ideology, philosophy and above all, modus operandi. I shall dwell on the aforementioned differences in the near future. However, suffice it to say that even though politically incommodious, the path of the President and Saraki have crossed twice since June 9 – first at the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the APC and during the Eid-el-Fitri prayers in Abuja. While these meetings are important, in that they have proved critics wrong who are wont to input hateful tendencies in the unfolding drama, they did not provide the much needed latitude for the two national leaders to robustly interface on how to direct the ship of state now firmly in the hands of the APC. I dare say that those currently encouraging the President not to officially meet the Senate President, are doing so devoid of patriotism and national interest. No matter how we look at events of 9th of June in the National Assembly which produced Saraki as Senate President and Senator Ike Ekweremadu as his deputy, nobody can blame Saraki for the absence of his main opponent in the race, Senator Ahmed Lawan and for the election of Ekweremadu made possible by the absence of majority of APC Senators in the chambers, during such one-event-in-any-session of the National Assembly. The National Assembly cannot be proclaimed twice in any republic. Though the election of Ekweremadu is painful as it deprived the APC of a homogeneous leadership in the Senate, the leadership of my great party, the APC must find a way around this stumbling block if all its lofty ideas, which enjoyed the people’s buy-in during the general election are not to be sacrificed so soon. God forbid!

Ever since the election of the Presiding Officers of the Red Chamber, it has been rumbling and grumbling, torrential expenditure of words, impeachment was contemplated, petition to the police was written, and even a court action has been instituted to challenge the event that democratically took place on the floor of the Senate as laid out by its rules of procedure. Thus, the Senate was unsettled until the historic Vote of Confidence on the Senate President, his deputy and already announced principal officers of the Senate. The new dawn of peace followed a motion sponsored by Senator Samuel Anyanwu and 81 other Senators spread across party lines in the Senate. The development was an indication that the 8th Senate was set to sail. To ensure an unencumbered sail, Saraki had ensured that even those on the other side of the divide were and the most vehement of his traducers were not side-tracked in the composition of adhoc committees. He announced the setting up of four ad-hoc Committees including Rules and Business, Services, Ethics and Privileges and Media and Publicity. It is worth noting that the committee on Rules and Business which is the engine room of any legislative body was ceded to a staunch member of the Senate a Unity Forum (SUF) loyal to Lawan, in the person of Senator Jide Omoworare. The spokesman of the SUF, Senator Kabiru Marafa, is also a member of this all powerful committee. Again the Chairman of the SUF, Senator Barnabas Gemade was named chair of another committee to review the state of our roads. The composition of these committees shows that the Senate has jettisoned politics to face the real business of legislation for which they were elected. Saraki has also shown broadmindedness and political sagacity in the concession of the committees to SUF members.

The vote of confidence by the Senate on Saraki and the appointment of SUF chair and members into critical committees by Saraki should signal to nay-sayers that the upper chamber has decided to put the rumpus that attended the June 9 inauguration and election of presiding officers behind it. Saraki has amply demonstrated by his words and more importantly, his actions that the Senate is not only set but has begun working out how to better the lot of Nigerians who voted to bring about the change revolution. This is why stakeholders still having an axe to grind as a result of the election of presiding officers and naming of principal officers of the Senate must urgently bury their ‘warmongering’ for now in the overall interest of our country – Nigeria.

To further demonstrate that the Senate is ready to pick on critical national assignments, an Ad-Hoc Committee led by Senator Adamu Aliero, has been mandated to look into the duty waiver policy of the Federal Government. This was even as the Senate urged the Federal Government to stop all waivers on imported rice and other Agricultural products and directed the Governor of the Central Bank (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, and the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Abdullahi Dikko to recover all illegally granted import duty waivers. The import of the motion moved by Senator Rafiu Ibrahim, (Kwara South), is to stop the continual hemorrhage of government’s revenue. The Federal Government is said to have lost N585billion to illegal waivers between 2011 and 2014. This collective resolve remains a sure indication that the interest of the country has overtaken personal or group political interest in the upper chamber. Already, Saraki has again made history as the first Senate President to lead Senators to visit the North-East since the dawn of Boko Haram insurgency in the country. The visit to troops, Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps, government and traditional institutions in the area according to Saraki was meant to afford the Senate real time experience on the magnitude of devastation in the area and what needs be done to again breath life into the region. What remains to be seen is the withdrawal of all matters from the Police and the Courts, to avoid any further unnecessary distraction from very crucial state matters which the Senate has to grapple with ahead.

Saraki, and indeed President Buhari are both spot on that the onerous business of governance would no longer be business as usual. This presupposes that they need one another to succeed. They have no choice but to collaborate to lift this country out of poverty, insecurity, joblessness, infrastructural decay and to build a better image for the country at the international frontier. Soon, the Senate will be screening the Service Chiefs and there may be need to revert to the President who nominated them to clear any grey areas. Again, the President has promised that he will name his ministers in September. Should this happen as promised, the Senate would have to screen the President’s nominees. What will it be like for the Senate to reject any of the ministerial nominees? This is possible because it happened in the past under ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration. It took the fatherly intervention of Obasanjo then for some of the nominees who were earlier rejected by the Senate to be cleared. Presently, there are talks about drastic reduction in the number of ministers to serve in the current dispensation. The move, according to those reading the body language of Mr. President is aimed at cutting cost of governance which has already hit the roof. This can only happen if the relevant constitutional provisions are amended. The constitution cannot be amended without the approval of both chambers of the National Assembly for which the Senate is a leading arm. To go ahead with proposed changes without the express approval of the National Assembly would be anachronistic in our incumbent democratic milieu. There are also talks about the unbundling of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). The National Assembly need to amend the relevant laws for this to happen. The earlier the President and the Senate President begin to relate as demanded by the Constitution, the better for all of us who voted for change.

Since assumption of office in May, Mr. President has visited the United States, Cameroon and Benin Republic, among others. The expected dividends from these trips cannot fruit in isolation as they require necessary legislations or amendment of extant laws to cement some of the multilateral and bilateral agreements that would guarantee increased Foreign Direct Investments (FDI) into the country, strengthen the nation’s fight against the Boko Haram insurgents and other myriad security concerns in the land.

Mr. President must not allow the present scenario to be construed as shying away from meeting Saraki because he emerged as the Senate President even though he had no preferred candidate for the position. I will never believe this conclusion because Buhari is a leader whose words are known to be his bond. The body language of Mr. President since the emergence of Saraki is unfortunately not in character with his avowed posture before the inauguration of the National Assembly. Mr. President and indeed the APC cannot afford to squander the goodwill of Nigerians on the altar of unnecessary internal squabbling. Buhari cannot do without the cooperation of the National Assembly in his efforts to defeat insurgency, revamp the economy, eliminate corruption and give Nigerians a compact civil service that will be alive to its responsibility. This Cold War as of necessity must stop now!
