Mattex001:Use whatever you have- It would be accepted for now. But there'd be another screening while you're in final year which must require your WAEC Certificate. Best of luck. |
Miatha:@bolded ^^ I'd look out for you then. Jux bookmark this thread. As at yesterday, I didn't see such- (I went to attend to some issues). |
Mattex001:I was admitted years back. I'm a student of the dept. of Med&Surg. there. We can continue here on nairaland--dropping my digits here could be quite risky. Or better still , you can reach me - matata4mbbs@yahoo.com Greatdesi:That wouldn't be a problem at all. When school resumes and you are screened : ¤you'd pick the accomodation form at the office of the Dean of Student Affairs. Note: The Dean doesn't issue the forms. His office does - so you don't get yourself embarrassed. Or better still, ask where it is issued after you've been screened. ¤After submission, go to the bank(which would be specified by then) and pay the accommodation fees. ¤Change the accommodation fees teller to receipt at the office of the Finance Officer in your Faculty. ¤Then head back to where you submitted your accomodation form and show them the receipt of the accommodation fees. ¤You'd then be issued a room. Good luck |

Computer Science vs Computer Engineering What is computer science? Computer science (CS) is the systematic study of algorithmic methods for representing and transforming information, including their theory, design, implementation, application, and efficiency. The discipline emerged in the 1950s from the development of computability theory and the invention of the stored-program electronic computer. The roots of computer science extend deeply into mathematics and engineering. Mathematics imparts analysis to the field; engineering imparts design. The main branches of computer science are the following: Algorithms is the study of effective and efficient procedures of solving problems on a computer. Theory of computation concerns the meaning and complexity of algorithms and the limits of what can be computed in principle. Computer architecture concerns the structure and functionality of computers and their implementation in terms of electronic technologies. Software systems is the study of the structure and implementation of large programs. It includes the study of programming languages and paradigms, programming environments, compilers, and operating systems. Artificial intelligence concerns the computational understanding of what is commonly called intelligent behavior and the creation of artifacts that exhibit such behavior. Other important topics in computer science include computer graphics, databases, networks and protocols, numerical methods, operating systems, parallel computing, simulation and modeling, and software engineering. What is computer engineering? Computer engineering (CEN) is the design and prototyping of computing devices and systems. While sharing much history and many areas of interest with computer science, computer engineering concentrates its effort on the ways in which computing ideas are mapped into working physical systems. Emerging equally from the disciplines of computer science and electrical engineering, computer engineering rests on the intellectual foundations of these disciplines, the basic physical sciences and mathematics. The main branches of computer engineering are the following: Networks is concerned with design and implementation of distributed computing environments, from local area networks to the World Wide Web. Multimedia computing is the blending of data from text, speech, music, still image, video and other sources into a coherent datastream, and its effective management, coding-decoding and display. VLSI systems involves the tools, properties and design of micro-miniaturized electronic devices (Very Large Scale Integrated circuits). Reliable computing and advanced architectures considers how fault-tolerance can be built into hardware and software, methods for parallel computing, optical computing, and testing. Other important topics in computer engineering include display engineering, image and speech processing, pattern recognition, robotics, sensors and computer perception. Should I pursue computer science or computer engineering? Scientists and engineers are both interested in the nature of things, in understanding how ideas and objects in the world fit together. But in general, they seek to understand the nature of reality with different ends in mind: the scientist seeks this understanding as an end in itself, the engineer in order to build things. Thus CS is closer to the underlying theory of computation, with its roots in mathematics, and CEN is closer to the design of physical devices, with roots in physics and chemistry as well. Students with an urge to build things, to measure how things work in the laboratory, those attracted to physics and chemistry as well as mathematics, should seriously consider CEN. Students with an interest in the true nature of symbols, information and their manipulations, the forms and limits of algorithms and data structures, should consider CS. Of the three great divisions in computing, namely theory, software and hardware, to a first approximation theory goes with CS, hardware with CEN, and software with both, but mainly with CS. The more general the software, the closer to CS; the more hardware-specific, the closer to CEN. Thus a student interested in creating his own new general-purpose computer language would best be served by a CS degree program, while one interested in designing a software interface for a new high speed serial device by the CEN degree program. Students undecided between the CS and CEN programs are urged to discuss the matter in depth with academic advisors within the CSE department, the College of Arts and Sciences (which administers the CS programs), and the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (which administers the CEN program). |

I wrote the November /December WASSCE in year 2008 and up on till now , I'm not in possession of my certificate. How long does it take WAEC to release its certificates?? Or yet still, has the 2008 Nov/Dec Certificates been released? Reasonable replies awaited. And scammers--pls keep off!!! |
Amadi or whatever your nomenclature sounds like, the University of Uyo is neither a habitation nor a consortium for half-baked, retarded, unscrupulous and ill-fit creatures whose frontal lobe lie close to the coccyx as you are. So I'd advise that next time you try scamming, ring your bells where your victims can detect its frequency with greater ease. *sighs* |
@Mattex the university of uyo will still issue you an admission letter. So I guess, that may cover it. Screening and Registration of freshers will start when the University resumes the session ,which has already been dealt with. |
@Miatha the supplementary list is still awaited. From indications, you seem to part of us-- the list will surely be released. Why it is taking time is because a good number candidates who may have deserved to be admitted had issues with their post-utme results , which the school is to blame. And as a moral obligation, the university via the Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Effiong Johnson, promised all aggrieved candidates that their results would be released, and if found meritorious, would be admitted. So might take a considerable length of time- which most has been spent already. |
^^ I don't think an e-mail may get you the response in the time desired. One thing in Naija university system is that there is hierarchy. And the higher the hierarchy, the more likely it is that you'd get 'answers'. I'd give you two options-- option 1try to make contacts with medical students already in the system, say 300level+ , and ascertain whether it is obtainable for your school- and the conditions attached thereof. They may give you some info and you may likely proceed to step2. Step2 As you rightly said before, the registrar is a good place to start. If you get to see him , ask him about 'the necessary guidelines and conditions' concerning inter-university transfer, especially to the dept of Med&Surg. . This is because the rules always tend to differ or get stricter when Med&surg dept is concerned (as obtainable in my school). If he has the required information and gets you satisfied , then applause. If not , I'd advice you to proceed to the dept of Med&Surg and seek to see the MBBS co-ordinator or the head of department. This is where your patience would likely be necessary because it would. If you aren't able to see him/her as the case may be, then I'd advice you to look out for the Secretary to the College of Health Sciences. Wish you goodluck. |

Idyllic:I believe you have to know the University rules and regulations concerning inter-university transfer and more specifically into the dept of Med&Surg. You may need to go to the school and find things out for yourself. And btw- I think U-I- only admits graduates of para-medical disciplines into Med&Surg. 200level. |
danbasco:I want to take this poser from a perspective. To me, they're two perspectives on why a Nigerian medical student would want to practice in Nigeria or outside. On one, I would practice in Nigeria, if and only if the system improves- that's if we have one at all. Outside that, I'd be banking ashores. By the way, I have some MBs to pass before thinking of this anyway. |
If I were yhu, I'd opt for Mech. Engine @ Federal Poly Nekede for professional reasons. |
^^ I still remain impressed by the responses gotten on this thread, considering the fact that a similar step was taken in the past and it met with abysmal failure. I've seen Medics all over Nigeria here who are above 1st MB. Having identified early preparation as a factor, what other factors could exist that could help us thrive? Your responses are highly appreciated. |
That should be when school resumes. Yet still, get your acceptance fee ready =>just 10grand. |

Buying all these books isn't necessary. You'd only need a few based on advice from senior colleagues and your lecturers' recommendations. And based on your understanding too. ~here's your list. You may not need all these books here. Jux a guide. goodluck |

danbasco:danbas, ^^ your effort in starting this thread is well appreciated. My interest is rather in scholarships. I did Mobil2010, and my name came out- did/have you done it before? If yes, what is their terms/conditions with respect to medics- considering the fact that we don't use c.g.p.a ? |
^^ Hello Medics, I'm Ema. Just finished pre-med. yr from Univ. Of Uyo. Pre-clinicals would be starting by March. iffy43k: |

^^ Why would someone compare Medicine&Surgery with IT. Yes, I agree that they are two indispensable fields , if mankind must make headway, but the comparison thereof is just uncalled for. Let me give you guys an insight into medical school. After the pre-medical year, medical students go over to pre-clinicals. This stage lasts for 18months<in Nigeria> and it is here that medics delve into anatomy , biochem, and physiology. Meanwhile, other students studying these individual courses for their first degrees are using 4 years each. But medics use 18months of their schooling to complete the same course content as them ---4years*3 =12years. What more stress could anyone ask for? IT could be difficult. Yes. But Medicine aint beans either. |
I know that starting a topic for this is kind of irrelevant, but I need help all the same. I wanted to find out if undergraduates of Medicine/Surgery in Nigerian Universities are eligible to apply for the ptdf scholarship or is it only limited to courses in the oil and gas sector. Helpful replies are seriously appreciated. |
Ups guys!! I made the list too. How about our letters @eddie30 & vickipad ? Received yours yet? |
How many yhu don claim? Go sleep 4 ground jooooorr |
