EducationRe: Lodge Your Complaints/Comments Here by Kadata(m): 6:48pm On Sep 08, 2010
I've been on this section for almost all the time I'm in Nairaland. I'm not new here, so don't let my no of posts deceive u.
Back to important issues. What this section needs is not a mod. This section needs ACTIVE PARTICIPATION.
Go to ROMANCE. Go to Forum Games and others. I bet you the participation there in various topics is very impressive. Even the humour there is 'overkillin'.
Why do most 'nairalanders' avoid the Education section? Is it that they are simply disinterested? Or that Education isn't really a priority? This paints a very ugly picture. For e.g, someone here needed an advice for his choice of course- chemical engineering or chemistry. I couldn't help him because I'm not an engine boy, or a chemist. But there are chemical engineering students , or at least engineering students who could have helped him. But none!
I've realised that there are sets of people out there who generally make Nairaland lively<not mentioning names tho.> ,but I rarely see their posts on this section. They have every right to and not to, this is not disputed, but that is where the reformation would start.
I've been creating good and innovative threads out there to help Nigerian students, despite how demanding Medical Skul is. But all we get is indifference and non- involvement. Sometimes we can get discouraged<we are humans> and maybe someone may be planning to leave to Politics section too.

EducationRe: Nigerians Don't Like To Read by Kadata(m): 3:11pm On Sep 08, 2010
This judgement is biased, if you ask me. The reading culture is kinda poor, but you don't expect me to read what every Tom and Harry has to offer.
And just because I don't buy ur book doesn't make me a poor reader.

EducationRe: How To Improve Your Memory by Kadata(m): 9:14pm On Sep 07, 2010
You can improve ur memory by paying undivided attention to details as they first occur then try to replay the scene in ur mind. It works 4 me though.
EducationRe: Free Scholarships For Students In Nigerian Tertiary Institutions by Kadata(m): 8:03pm On Sep 07, 2010
Scam!<i stand corrected though>
why should d applicants pay for a 'scholarship' they might not be given, because according to d site, the award isn't on merit but on random selection . Are they running a promo? Cos there's a huge difference!.

If the scholarship isn't on merit, they can as well go to hell. Poo!!
EducationRe: Why Can't Some People Pass JAMB (UME)? by Kadata(m): 3:59pm On Sep 07, 2010
The day you underestimate discipline , is the day you start failing.
I don't need to convince anyone on this. I've tested it. It worked perfectly. It's working well. And it's working for others too.

The day you leave ur fate in d hands of luck is the day u start becoming uncertain about ur future. Do you watch promos? The winner is always lucky- not because he had d most entries, but because luck 'ran in to him' . Unfortunately, life isn't like that.
EducationRe: Having Financial Education Is More Important Than Having A Degree. by Kadata(m): 3:21pm On Sep 07, 2010
@ Omoleke
the bulk of people in this section are students. How can a student invest towards graduation , so he/she can have sth to start life with? Or which investment options are possible and/or recommended towards this end?
How can students make/create wealth in skul without their grades being affected?
These are questions we'd luv u to answer. Thanks.

EducationRe: Why Is It Hard To Gain Admission To University Here In Nigeria? by Kadata(m): 11:39am On Sep 07, 2010
Another likely reason might be the candidate's ignorance of the university's admission policy.

I had a friend in secondary school who was so good. As in, d guy was a fellow genius. We had equal respect for each other, so we shared secrets too. He told me that he'd be making UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN as his First Choice for Medicine and Surgery. Good choice if you ask me, but bad as things unfolded!
He didn't have the admission.
What happened? IBADAN told him that they don't attend to candidates who are awaiting their school certificate result. So he lost it for that year.

The following year, he choosed the same IBADAN as first choice for Medicine and Surgery. By now he had his School Certificate Result ready and he was hoping for a positive outcome. Another trouble emerged.
What happened this time around? He was told that the criteria for selection into the Department of Medicine and Surgery for that year was a minimum of 70%<calculate it pls> in UME and a minimum of 'B's in his subject combination.
He had less than 70% so he was disqualified.

It was after this that he was informed about the University's Policy on admitting candidates into Medicine. What was it? The University wants most candidates from Direct Entry, who have had a good degree in a Paramedical course<anatomy, biochem, physiology, microbiology etc> to be admitted into Medicine. So they make the conditions for UME candidates so stringent that it might be almost impossible.

Candidates are in a hurry to choose the best schools, but the best schools might not have choices for them.

Here's a challenge :
I met a girl who came to write post utme in my uni. 4 Computer Engineering. Guess what? She had written 2010 WAEC and here she was ready for post utme. Nothing special? Just wait!. When her WAEC result was released , she had 4Bs and 4Cs. Her Jamb score was around 60%. What Suprised me was that she wrote this UTME and WAEC in SS2! What? SS2! Can you Imaginehuh Right now she's is SS3 and d admission is waiting for her! So anytime next session starts, she don follow start. Her mates would be writing UTME then.
It's discipline jare. Nothing else.
