@micolala your cousin should have choosen another jamb centre. If a centre is notorious for malpractice, even if you are clean, you'd surely bear the same weight of pain. Back to topic: students fail jamb because. 1> they prepare late. An examination like UME<OR UTME> has a wider syllabus content than WAEC{confirm it if you can}. So it practically needs more time{at least 6months} of intense preparation to familiarise with the content. 2> sincerely, most jamb candidates don't read with their syllabus. The syllabus was meant to serve as a guide. Most of them just pick up a text and start jacking. It doesn't work that way. Jamb gave d syllabus so that you can know what to expect. Pick up any JAMB syllabus, go to Physics , go to the topic ' VISCOSITY' . Jamb requires that you know ' Stokes law'. Now how many popular Physics textbooks have a detailed explanation of Stokes law? Can u now see why Nigerians won't stop failing common UTME ![]() |
Admission In Nigeria is strictly based on 2 factors 1> Merit 2> Locality. That is why you must be mindful of the school you choose and your ability to meet their requirements. If your academic records are not excellent, why are you choosing IBADAN or ABU as first choice? You might not make it there. Admission is strictly a competition, and only d fittest survive. If you are not fit for a school, why bother trying?? Secondly, the locality. Most states in d South East are 'educationally disadvantaged' . So a special slot is given to citizens of EDS in Federal Universities. For e.g, in my school, someone with 53% aggregate had admission in Medicine simply because he was from ABIA state. Meanwhile a citizen with over 67% aggregate was not even given a chance. You see Even d citizens are denied admission to accomodate EDS students. My recommendation=> Upgrade you academic stunts, if you want to make it big academically. You won't have time for cut-off points and all those boring stories. In my time, I had 68% in Ume <calculate d score urself> and 82% post-ume. I never had time for the useless stories of cut-off and cachement area. You can, if you will. |
@Olami099 We'd love to hear ur stunts, and how you pulled them. |
Yeah @stevetboy, that approach of forming questions for yourself is recommended for SUBJECTIVE EXAMINATIONS. I de use d method squash big time. Kudos 2 u man. |
Yeah it was. Any details about d list. |
No course is generic, by my standards. It wasn't anyone's fault to be a male/female,, why allow it determine d course of ur life? |
What exactly are you looking for? Job prospects or Job specifications of Chemical engrs /chemists? |
If you ask me , I'd advise you to play cool. Don't struggle any girl with ur lecturer, at least 4 d sake of ur certificate. I had a friend who had a similar case and d lecturer practically hated him, |
I believe that the Career/Vacancies section can help you. |
Nairaland politics, whoever emerges as mod, I can't wait to see these scam posters 'fried in hot oil' |
@Eemeekaa, Thanks all the same. I just wish people out there are reading and are ready to contribute as well. |
Depends on d guy in question. Not every guy would receive that 'reply' , and moreover I think that's d most uninteresting way 2 express interest in a woman. |
I hope there are others too who have good ideas to share. Do well to post too. Thanks. |
Furthermore, I use codes to represent confusing concepts, just in case I'm asked. I remember while I was preparing for JAMB-PHYSICS some years ago, I hardly was able to differentiate btw 'shunt' and 'multiplier'. I was confused because sometimes I'd misplace d definition of shunt for multiplier and so on. And you had to define it in terms of magnitude and manner of arrangement. So this is what I did. I formulated 2 codes for these two 'confusing' concepts and ever since then, I haven't forgotten. I gave LORIP <LOW RESISTANCE IN PARALLEL> to Shunt and HIRIS<HIGH RESISTANCE IN SERIES> to Multiplier. Simple huh? |
I start, There's this reading style I adopted not too long ago and it has affected my grades positively. Whenever I read, I try to write down what I've read in d same manner I read it from d text. If it doesn't stick to memory, I do it in repeated patterns all over my 'rough book'. It has helped me a lot to master definitions that otherwise would seem hard. |
Not exactly. But an Industrial Chemist has better career prospects than a pure/analytical chemist. -Airports -Fire Service etc are likely places that may require Ind. Chemists. Aside from that tho' , you might be lucky elsewhere. Nobody knows. |
I wonder!! |
It's interactive. What are the things you do to excel academically?? Let me give you a picture of what I mean. I am good academically (not boasting tho') and there are people I've met who are good too. For those of us who are academically 'tite', our coursemates seem to wonder if we fell from Pluto. Sometimes, they call us 'guru' , 'braindo' , 'attacker' , 'matata' and all other nicknames that depict a genius. Most times , they wonder what we do which they've not done that makes us ahead of them in class. Of course, we read, we study, we jack. Our classmates also read , they study, they jack. Yet we seem to be way ahead of them in this game called academics. Now this is where d bomb lies. The difference btw you and d man ahead of you lies in what he knows/does which you don't know or can't do. Now, if you are or have ever been an academic star before<university, secondary skul> , there were things you did apart from just d general reading, which made you higher than your mates. Let's share those wonderful secrets and help d upcoming generation. For e.g, we know you read, but how do u read. What approach did you use for various subjects? Of course, you can't use the same approach for calculus to study anatomy. How did you retain what you read faster and better? How did you wrestle marks from ur examiner on ur write-up? What were those personal examination guidelines you sticked to? Come rain or shine? Please feel free to share there info. You might change d academic life of anyone who's reading. |
My brother, d codes are typical of Nigerian federal unis, not private ones where d are actually 'spoon-fed', Back to topic: I normally did 011. Of course what is food to you when you have an Anatomy lecture by 7a.m? It wasn't a question of money sha. It was a question of time. |
Another role: -saves labour cost for d bank/company. Instead of hiring a new cashier. An atm machine does d magic. |
Problems -you can't pay in, you only withdraw. -has a limit for amount withdrawn per transaction. i.e 100grand. -isn't consumer friendly.if u have any problem, it's u and d machine, nobody else. -isn't security friendly. E.g ur atm card can be cloned. -errors due to mechanical and computerial problems. You have 100grand, the machine gives u 1grand as balance. I don try? |
Roles -Saves time instead of queueing -reduces work load for bank cashiers -saves money for d customer. Counter withdrawals have a charge rate. But atm withdrawals are free, except it's not ur bank. -speed of withdrawal:of course it's faster, than with counter withdrawals. |
'convert', in what context? |
Let's be frank. How many chemical industries do we have in Naija where you expect to work as a chemist? None! < I stand corrected if any>. Most chemists are limited to Universities where they lecture. Abi I lie? Now a chemical engineer has more prospects. If he has a tite cgpa, he may likely work for a multinational. A chemical engineer can easily upgrade his first degree without necessary going to postgraduate. I quite agree with @Sammy up there too. |
You guys should not 'kill' d guy na. Maybe he's doing a 'project' that involves sampling opinions from public forums like Nairaland , and d rest. Project topics are damn wierd, and I've come across more wierd topics than this. Op was asking for opinions. Back to topic: It is d best thing that has ever happened to d human race- female education. Think about this. What would have happened, if your momma never went to skul? |
Public health does d magic. It's sells both in d national and international scene. I'm currently a student medic and i'm also considering Public Health or Health Statistics for Masters. Goodluck. |
Depends on ur passion tho' . For me I think Pharmaceutical Science does it, for personal reasons. |
@fingard02k [s]I'm not really a guru but I can suggest sth. In medical school, we were taught that sometimes sleep becomes a necessity to empower our brain when we are too stressed. D power of your lappy is your ba3. So my diagnosis is that your ba3 is faulty. Try booting your system w/o your battery and other peripherals attached i.e with d mains and give d gurus a feedback. They can assist u from there. Just to help sha. [/s] |
@JUO thanks 4 replying. How do I go about checking d VGA.? |
Intestine, lol. |
I wanted to buy a laptop, but I'm not really experienced with identifying the good or bad one. I intend to test every function before I pay my hard earned cash. Now my problem is : how do i identify a good battery? How would i know if the laptop isn't refurbished? How do i check d properties of d system? Cos d last thing i want to do is to pay for a 1g ram and leave with 512mb? Are there other things I am supposed to check before paying for d lappy? Please i trust you guys to help me in this respect. Thanks. |
