I concur with the above.
Many of the malicious accusations against some Men of God in most cases make FP while the rebuttal of such accusations does not.

Seun, I wish to propose that you make it as a rule that anybody who is not a Christian nor a Muslim should desist from posting comment and participating in any discussion regarding same. Let Christian topics be discussed by Christians only and let Muslims discuss Islamic matters only. Christians should not participate in Muslim discussions that is peculiar to them, ditto Muslims. Atheists should neither participate in Christian nor Islamic discussion. There had been occasions where these three groups insult each other while participating on topics that they do not have any knowledge of.

It is of note that people can go to a great length to defend their religion and it's leaders from insult and disrespect, but not many may do so when their tribe or their leaders are insulted or disrespected. In Nigerian, people are sentimentally attached to their religion and as such should be accorded due respect.

Pastor Fireman has apparently been vindicated by the murderer's mother. You are correct on that. The rebuttal has not been posted.

However, NL was operating on solid information at the time of the first post. That can never be considered bad.

OAM4J:

You want Seun to remove himself after he told you he also is responsible for few of the mistakes?

We have heard you, like Seun said, We will tighten our process. We know these are difficult times in politics cos elections are near, we will strive to ensure what we recommend to home page are verifiable, if not we will put a question mark on the title or indicate the source of the news. And where it is a member's opinion we will clearly indicate it.

Hope this is acceptable.

Is there any hope for a correction/retraction of the most recent mistake?

This current story is still hot. Many legitimate threads about her will hit the front page in the coming days. Without knowing that the Senate did NOT chastise Sahara Reporters and Premium Times, and that they did NOT release a statement defending Oduah, many Nigerians will be robbed of their right to infomed consent. They will be reasoning with false information.

Sahara Reporters and Premium Times have also had their reputations unfairly damaged. Sharia Reporters, ni? No one can take responsibility for all these, other than the management of NL.

YOUR TEAM made the mistake, please do the right thing and correct it. Sweeping it under the rug, is shameful. No one can claim ignorance of the issue. It has been brought to your attention.

Actually, instead of my thread going to the FP, Nairaland should issue the retraction/correction. If it comes from me, it will be just as confusing to people. Plus, the retraction/correction needs to be seen by as many people as possible. My thread wont achieve that.

Please do the right thing.

Why are you so angry?

40,000 people now believe something that isn't true, because it was on NL's front page. That is a problem no matter which way you look at it. At the very least we should be bringing this to his attention, as I'm sure he doesnt keep track of every detail on the site.

Politics / Re: Open Letter To Seun by Kairoseki77: 12:47pm On Jan 10, 2014
Seun has been taking many thread to the front page without sources. Like this one:

theoctopus: B-R-E-A-K-I-N-G News!!! Senate Releases Stella Oduah's CV. The Nigerian Senate have released the Curriculum Vitae (Resume) which Princess Stella Oduah the Aviation Minister used in securing her appointment. According to the release, they confirm that the Aviation Minister's CV was in line with her claims, against what some media outfits have been writing in the last few days. They warned that the online news outlets Sahara Reporters and Premium Times should stop giving out false and malicious information that might lead to breakdown of law and order. Sahara reporters have already accepted misleading Nigerians and still refuse to apologize for their malicious allegations and frivolous claims.

https://www.facebook.com/hopefornigeria?ref=stream

There seems to be a pattern on NL. A fully sourced article will grace the front page, generate a lot of traffic, and then a few days later UNSOURCED and CONTRADICTORY claims will hit the front page.

This is confusing to many people. Prime example, is the letter writing saga.

A sourced thread quoted an article in Vanguard. That article contained the contents of Iyabos letter to OBJ. It hit the front page and about 97% of us believed it to be accurate.

A few days later, an UNSOURCED and uncomfirmed post claimed that Iyabo did not author that letter to her father.

We were all confused, and it took a few days to sort out the truth. Nairaland created national confusion, single-handedly, by pushing that unsourcred thread to the Front Page.

There have been even worse instances where threads are "jokes", but presented as truth just to gain views. I am thinking of the Ngige crying over 2bn thread, and Lagbaja removing his mask. Many people STILL believe those threads were truthful.

Shockingly, this pattern is repeating itself again with this latest Oduah scandal.

A story hits the front page with multiple sources and several media outlets are reporting the story. All of us believe the accusations are true.

Then an UNSOURCED and UNCOMFIRMED thread hits the front page, that is completely contradictory.

The senate has not released a single statement. They are on vacation until January 14th. Op's "source" was the facebook profile of a random PDP fan site. Click on the link youself and see.

Seun has not realized the power NL has yet. He still treats this like it is a game.

Mazi_Omenuko: Please mods, when you wake up, kindly move these threads to frontpage:

https://www.nairaland.com/1585818/official-cv-stella-oduah-confirms#20767555

The senate finally vindicated Odua by publishing her cv which she used to secure the job; and all the allegations are false. Nl wasn't hesitant in moving the threads filled with false allegations and insults to her person on the frontpage, so it wouldn't be difficult moving this one to clear the air.

suggestion some sets of people are currently using Nl as a tool to achieve their selfish ambition; much to the detriment of this nice site. Some of us are starting to see this website as a tool for selfish desires of some peeps. They claim to be whoever they are and post ridiculous items here only for the mods to take such to frontpage without further verification. Maybe you guys believe its a thing of immense honour to have such creatures in this site; unless they are paying handsomely for the publicity and propaganda they are using the politics section and nairaland as a whole to do, then I say they are doing more harm than good.

Take the case of odua; barely 24 hrs after the ridiculous news was published all over the net and Nl, senate has cleared the air. What would it have cost the mods if they waited that long b4 moving such threads to frontpage?

Except those threads are lies.

From the very beginning, that person claimed to have gotten their information directly from a public statement released by the Senate. It was an obvious lie when I first saw the thread, because the pictures of Oduah's CV that OP posted had a very prominent PREMIUM TIMES logo on it. I didnt take the thread serious, and expected it would be deleted as trash. Now it seems that OP figured out that the GIANT PREMIUM TIMES LOGO, was a dead giveaway that they dint get the CV from the Senate, so they changed it. They downloaded the CV from the Premium Times website (where it doesn't have a logo), and reuploaded it to Nairaland. Hilariously, they decided to photochop a pic of Stella' face onto the resume. grin

Lets be clear.

1. The Senate is on vacation until January 14th. It is IMPOSSIBLE for them to have released anything.

2. OP did not list a single person from the senate that released it. WHO FROM THE SENATE GAVE OP ODUAH's resume? It might have just as well been ghosts.

3. OP claims (quite fraudulently) that the Senate released a "statement". (Where is this statement, has anyone seen it?)

4. OP claims that the Senate "confirm[ed] that the Aviation Minister's CV was in line with her claims, against what some media outfits have been writing in the last few days. They warned that the online news outlets Sahara Reporters and Premium Times should stop giving out false and malicious information that might lead to breakdown of law and order." SINCE THIS "SENATE'S STATEMENT" DOESNT EXIST, THIS IS AN OUTRIGHT LIE.

5. OP's only source is the facebook page of some random PDP fan site. Where is this Senate Statement?

6. From what I can tell, there is no mention of Oduah AT ALL on that Facebook page. Can anyone find where they mentioned what OP claimed? In fact, I think that post was WRITTEN by the owner of that Facebook page, and that they included the link to their facebook page as a PROMOTION and not as a source. Did any mod even click on the link to verify OP's claims?

Anyway, I was SHOCKED to see that thread on the front page today. It is an obvious fraud. The question I have, is what are the standards this website uses?

I am not a fan of Sincere9gerian, but he always uses sources, so I respect him. When other's on the politics section discuss issues, we like to use SOURCED articles to bash each other. When I post threads, I always use a source. Personally, this level of yeye journalism is against the politics section culture, and should be stopped. If we cant trust NL, then what is the point?

Lastly, let us all wait until the government resumes on Jan 14, when the investigation into Oduah will formally start. These unsourced, and uncomfirmed, claims from the "Nigerian Senate" (which is currently on vacation) will most likely be exposed as fraudulent. In the mean time, this concerned Nigerian would like to know what determines whether or not a thread is front page worthy. Thanks and good day.

Can we put this on Front Page?

I can shorten it, or create another version.

APC had an opportunity to sell itself to Nigerians as a group filled with saints who would come and wipe out the "corruption that the PDP has instituted". It was riding smoothly with that cap until it decided to open its doors to the worst of the PDP. Amongst the masses, APC is a hypocritical bunch. Polls everywhere are indicating that public perception of APC has hit rock bottom since it became obvious that APC is desperately seeking PDP members to join its fold.

The Premium Times video is 4:47 long, while the Channels video is only 3:33 long.

The Premium Times video likewise includes far more content and exchanges between the minister and the committee.

Both videos are there to see, but an objective viewing would conclude that the Channels video is more heavily edited.

Politics / Re: 4th Mainland Bridge Const. To Connect Lekki And Ikorodu To Commence Soon - FG by Kairoseki77: 9:15pm On Jan 08, 2014
What is this nonsense about Federal Government? This a PPP project with between the LASG and investors.

By NAOMI UZOR
The private sector in the country is to finance the construction of the 4th mainland bridge with N220 billion.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Lagos State, Mr. Ben Akabueze, at the 2013 Seminar/Luncheon of the Financial Services Group of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, LCCI. Akabueze said the federal or states government would not be financing the 4th Mainland Bridge as private sector investors have made plans to invest N220 billion in the construction of the bridge.
Akabueze noted that the state requires a much larger budget than it currently operates, adding that inadequate revenues constitute the principal impediment to achieving a larger budget.

“Lagos State has consistently recorded good budgetary performance, more than any other state government in Nigeria. We have tried to make the people to own the budget, and make it work for them because effective budgetary systems and implementation have contributed significantly to socio-economic development in Lagos.”

According to him, investment in infrastructure simultaneously tackles a number of challenges such as job creation, poverty reduction, lower cost of operations for manufacturing and commercial enterprises.

“Empirically-proven correlation between investment in infrastructure and economic growth (a World bank study of 39 African countries covering 1990-2005 shows that if our infrastructure was developed to standard of Mauritius (best infrastructure in Africa) GDP growth would rise by about 2.5 percent per annum.

“Percentage allocated to sectors reflects government’s priorities and sustenance of past trend highest priority goes to Economic Affairs Sector. In line with the policy thrust of government, infrastructure, health and education sectors are being gradually notched up to meet global benchmarks.

Sincere 9gerian: No surprises. APC and their allies in the media have proved over and over again that they'r incurable liars and shameless propagandists. They represent everything that is EVIL.

Didn't you just write a post telling Oduah to ignore Nigerians and stating that you support her at all costs?

How can you say "I'm here out of respect"?

She was there to do her JOB, which is to present the federal budget to the House for review. Very arrogant.

She was pretending to be sick to get sympathy from the media if the reps started asking tough questions. The reps outsmarted her by asking her to come back when she was feeling better. This ruined her plan, so she got aggressive and started shaking like Asari Dokubo.
