Education › Scam By Oyo State Government: Non-payment Of Our Bursary And Scholarship by kaka22(op): 3:26pm On Sep 21, 2014
Around November, 2013, Oyo state govt Led by Governor Ajumobi asked all oyo state indigenes who were in final year and those who had finished their studies to apply for oyo state bursary and scholarship. Students that applied for bursary were asked to pay 750naira as registration fee and those that applied for scholarship were asked to pay over 1000naira. Since last year, we have not heard anything from oyo state government. It is about 9months now and we have not been paid...Is this not scam by Oyo state govt?... And they will start calling themselves 'progressives'. Ajumobi, pay us our money; it is our right...
Christianity Etc › Re: Is The Expression, "God Helps Those Who Help Themselves Biblical"? by kaka22(m):
Faith without work is dead (james 2:14-26)... This means heaven helps those who help themselves. If you have faith that you will be a millionaire next year, you must work towards it.

Difference between rich man and poor man
A rich man will go to church and pray SILENTLY like this... 'Father, please the project that I've invested 50 million naira, let it succeed in Jesus name'.

A poor man will go to church and pray LOUDLY like this... 'Almighty God, I want to be a millionaire. Father, turn me into a millionaire'. He will pray like this without working towards it cheesy. He is expecting magic to take place.

#checks time# 3pm don nack. Let me run to football viewing centre to see how chelsea go beat man city wink

Politics › A Nigerian Crying To Remain A Refugee In Canada... by kaka22(op): 5:57pm On Sep 16, 2014
Canada deports Nigerian mother of three. In spite of a loud outcry, Winifred Agimelen and her three children have been sent back to Nigeria after living in Montreal for six years.
The Canadian government deportation of Winifred Agimelen and her three children to Nigeria Sunday night hit a temporary snag, as it turned out that the mother did not have a necessary Nigerian visa for her third child, who is Canadian.
In spite of the visa issue, the family of four boarded a plane out of Montreal. Agimelen’s current husband is a landed immigrant who lives here, but he does not have official custody rights for the Canadian child.

Winifred Agimelen is seen at the airport just prior to her deportation. (CTV Montreal Nadine Ishak)
Protesters are decrying the forced deportation, as the order to leave stems from a complicated maze of immigration procedures that will divide the family and possibly subject them to danger in West Africa.
The three children were fathered by her ex-husband. The third was conceived in Nigeria but born in Canada.
Agimelen fled Nigeria after her first husband disappeared, possibly killed by people his father owed money to. She was kidnapped with her children and her daughter was threatened with genital mutilation as part of that affair. She arrived in Montreal six years ago.
The traumatic experience is believed to have the caused psychological damage to her eldest child and led her to flee to Canada.
The woman’s lawyer worries that the child will not develop well in Africa.
“He’s not going to receive services in Nigeria. There’s no kind of therapy in Nigeria,” said Agimelen’s lawyer Angela Potvin. “We don’t understand how Nigerian society works. It’s a much more dangerous place than we know.”
A distraught Agimelen told CTV Montreal that the expulsion and separation from her husband will be very challenging.
“Mostly I’m worried about the safety of my children because there is so much violence in Nigeria. There’s news about kidnapping children in Nigeria. There’s Boko Haram and Ebola in Nigera, it gives me so much fear for me and my children,” she said.
She says she has no place to stay in Nigeria and fears she will be targeted. She can’t return to her hometown because she was subject to violence there, she explained.
Agimelen initially filed to stay in Canada as a refugee but has since married a man with landed resident status. He was deemed to be four months short of being permitted to sponsor Agimelen as his wife.
Last Friday Potvin applied for a five month extension to allow Agimelen’s immigration application to be administered without her being forced to go to Nigeria, but it was denied.
Potvin says that the change of a single word in the rules has prevented the Canadian Border Services Agency from allowing the family to stay together, based on the difficulties it will pose to the eldest child.
“One child has PTSD from this kidnapping in Nigeria and there’s jurisprudence that says this constitutes a ‘special circumstance’ but there was a subtle change made in the act. It used to say that someone could be removed as soon as ‘practicable’ but now it says ‘as soon as possible,’” she said

Education › Re: Thirds Class Performs Better Than Most First Class, 2:1 And 2:2 by kaka22(m): 1:57pm On Sep 14, 2014
Goodplace: As at 2011,news had it that about 80% of first class &2:1 holders that sat for the aptitude test for NNPC failed.

These are one of the bottle neck we have in Nigeria labor market, when emphases is been laid on the class of degree.
take a look at third class holder in their in their job when employed, they perform better,
Also look at notable persons who have achieved in their career some are third class holders.
Some news have it that a one time MD/CEO that turned the fortunes of UBA was a third class product, wole and others just to mention but a few.
@op... You are surely a third class student or graduate as the case may be if not pass. Let me first start from your topic: it was a poor sentence construction. What is 'THIRDS CLASS'? It should have been 'third class graduates perform better than most first class, second class(Upper and Lower) graduates'. Don't get me started on your post. It was full of error.

Back to your analysis: It was a fallacy called hasty generalisation. You used a single case(which was unsubstantiated) to generalise on all cases. You said 80 percent of first class and 2.1 graduates that wrote the test fail, what about the remaining 20 percent(first class and 2.1 graduates)? Are they not first class and 2.1 graduates? You also committed another fallacy called the use of bad analogy. If you want to compare first class or 2.1 graduates with third class graduates, you must use a good analogy( a case where first class and 2.1 graduates fail while third class graduates excel). You are just trying to give yourself hope and boost your self worth and self esteem.

Let me also use this opportunity to educate you that Wole Soyinka made 2.1 not third class http://www.vanguardngr.com/2013/07/i-made-second-class-upper-soyinka/

ThoniaSlim: GOD BLESS YOU!!!

I cannot stand when people come out to say oh your grade doesn't determine your success! Yes it doesn't but trust me it gives you an advantage over others! I got a job a month before I finished service, I get invited to interviews like crazy, that I have to start turning some down!

I'm planing on doing my masters next year and the schools I'm interested in, said I''m qualified for a scholarship because of my grades! So for undergraduates who have the opportunity to get it right, do not allow anyone tell you good grades do not matter because they do! So work hard! Get those good grades and do not stop trying to improve yourself!
Amen... I've discovered that MOST people that go around talking about how what one made in school won't affect one's future are those that didn't make 1st class or 2.1. They always try to pass their defeatist mentality to those that made good grades so that they can be at the same level. It is not everyone that will be entrepreneurs and it is not everyone that will be employees but those that made good grades through God's grace and their efforts(not through bribing lecturers) have upper hand in seeking employment and getting scholarships to further their studies.

I wish you best of God in getting that scholarship.

Back to the topic- Yes, i can share joint account with my future spouse but that will be after i divide my own salary into 3 parts. Then I will save one part into the joint account and use save one part into my personal account. The last part will be used to maintain myself(pepper joint, changing my wardrobe etc) wink.

I believe what u study or d degree u get in skul doesn't determine what u'l become..I was surprised while readin oda people's comment and sum1 said it's only d unfortunate or failures dat get below 2:1...Now if dey r d unfortunates, den pls if u can,tru 2 make a research of successful people we hear about 2day globally and not about sum1 wu can just boast of a few millions..I mean d likes of wole soyinka, dangote, bill gates and co and u'l knw it's not about ur degree in skul but d ideas u can offer..sum1 said sumfin and I totally agree,he said,"it's not about ur certificate but it's about ur SABIficate"...

So if u fall in2 d category of less dan 2:1..do not relent..do not loose hope..press 4ward and believe God is always dere 4 u and work hard!!!!!
Soyinka actually graduated with 2.1 not third class, Dangote graduated from a university in Egypt...

Education › Re: Why You Must Finish With At Least A 2.1 by kaka22(m):
@op... Well done, you are on point. To make at least 2.1 is not everything, it is the only thing. The issue of connection is over-exaggerated in Nigeria. Yes, we have issues like nepotism, favouritism and connections(who you know) but that doesn't mean that there are no companies that recruit based on merit. MOST people who come out to say that 'what you have in school will not determine where and who you will be in future' are the unfortunate and the unlucky. What you have in school will surely determine who and where you will be in future. If you later establish your company/business you can be rest assured that you still have your 2.1 or first class pali(certificate) to search for work when the need arises.Yes, we have some 2.2 and third class fellows that are making it but that doesn't mean that 2.1 fellows are also not making it. I make bold to say that the percentage of 2.2 and third class jobless fellows is more than that of 2.1 and first class. Even if you won't use your 2.1 to work, still make sure you have it because you never know...

Advice for undergraduates
Avoid anybody that discourages you from graduating with 2.1 or first class. Such individual doesn't wish you well. One of the laws in 48 laws of power says that avoid the unlucky and the unfortunate.

Last bullet: Yes, 2.1 or first class is not everything but make sure you have it before saying that nonsense... grin
