Hi AdeyinkaSeun,
Its really sad to read that you have been through all mentioned. I am in Melbourne and so far I have experienced the opposite of what you have mentioned. Nevertheless, I'm sure we all will agree that it isn't a bed of roses anywhere.
I really do hope you find peace and tranquillity wherever you decide to settle down, be it in Melbourne, another part of Australia or Nigeria....

Thank you!

In addition to the link Alphadoor posted, I used this

https://www.nationalaustraliabank.com/nabglobal/migrant

When you click "Apply" it opens the same form >>

https://www.nationalaustraliabank.com/australian-account

I have since completed my account opening using my Nigerian address and phone number (no money to send yet cheesy ). It was a smooth process. Your account number is sent to you via email in about 24-48 hours. You'll also be sent your internet log in details via a seperate email (for security reasons) another 24 hours after.
Read the instructions on the PDF attachment containing your acct details carefully.

I believe on every bank's website, there will be an account for migrants. I don't know what NAB calls theirs.

You can open account prior to arrival if you choose the right account. I opened an account before I arrived.

Ok then. Thanks. Will keep searching.

Hi fam!
Pls I need advise o. I tried opening a NAB classic account from naija and experienced issues because they asked for phone no and I was putting +234...Apparently they expect the no to be an aussie no. Any ideas on what to do pls? Or do I try another bank? Any referrals with good testimonies?

@nosula
Apologies I am responding now. I have been super busy. It took them a few hours to respond initially. Then another 1 week plus to get another response. After paying, I waited for almost 2 weeks to get the final ticket. Like others have stated, you have to be patient or try other options. If you are travelling with kids, I advice you opt for a ticket with shorter flight time.
Cheers...

No vex for the accusation bro. You know "we" ( I and the triplets inside my pregnancy ) don dey defend you nah.
@STAugustineOf13, gently oh. It is well.
That being said, I want to appreciate people who rose to my situation these past 6 weeks or more.
AHPRA actually wanted some docs from me, about four. I was able to get three, but my professional body ( Nursing and Midwifery council Nigeria) couldn't get a sheet of paper signed from 11th September till 19th October. Several efforts were made, chief Bellong was with me through it all, Kingbukaz tried all within his ability, Nanlop was at the council for me, and three other people on different occasions, oscar offered to help out too, Monica was there, Jamson, Bnimz, mctowel01, Teejay80, Sol and many others were with me in the situation. Unfortunately, my application was withdrawn on the 25th of this month ( the withdrawal note ought to have been given me on 22nd). The stress of the ups & downs, financial commitment which the bleeped up people at the helms of affairs caused me were much on me and the sadness of unfruitful efforts were heavy on me.. To make matters worst, I got the letter few hours after my application was withdrawn.
...but through it all, I've learnt to depend upon the lord.
I want to appreciate my family members ( blood & efam). May God crown our efforts with success, Rinzylee, ugsams, you're much respected. How can I forget phlunter01, my sister and counselor in all these, or nkechima who left her own travail to pray with me in the scorching sun of unyielding manager?? God bless you all. May God "say yes" to our migration dreams.

Oh dear! My sister, the Lord will make all things beautiful in His time...

PHCN frustrated me out of Nigeria earlier than I planned so I was quite scattered on the day I was leaving. I flew Emirates and the flight left as scheduled with me being one of the last to check in due to my 'overload syndrome'(I just found it extremely difficult fitting my entire existence into 2 suitcases!). For people like me that can pack for Africa, 23kg is very small so you are better off focusing on things you might not get here. For the ladies, it might be useful to bring black hair products and hair extensions (though they sell expression here but its so tiny and does not come out as nice as the Naija one).

[/quote]

I also imagine the torture associated with fitting everything I have in 2 suitcases. I have bought enough extensions and wigs o. I can't start thinking about hair stuff just when I land.
May God prosper our ways. All the best sis...

I came across this thread recently and it has been informative. A big kudos to everyone.

I have a B.Eng Mech Eng, Age :39 with a family of 4. I am preparing for my ielts exam by next month and I am hoping to get at it as soon as possible because of the age(almost 40).

I am hopeful to be assessed as a professional engineer and I intend to claim work experience as i have 9 years experience in my field.

My questions
1) do I need to pay extra for my work experience to be assessed by EA as well as choosing the fast track option.

2) still a bit confused about the career episode and the CDR.

3) what chances do I have before I get the final response against my next birthday which is in Oct next year. As I am hoping to claim point on the age before I reach the 40yrs mark.

Thank you.

1. Yes you will pay extra.
2. Download the EA MSA booklet. You will understand in no time.
3. Chances are very high. Depends on how fast you can work.

All the best.

Congrats bro on ur Grant... Plz how many points did u gather before u wia issued an ITA... I want to use my uncles water treatment company to claim 3yrs experience in Chemical engineering... Mind u I never worked there but they can giv me all the documents I need... But my fear is DIBP.. Dnt know hw far they can go in trying to vet experience... Plz wat and wat did they ask from you or wat exactly did u provide them with fr them to be satisfied with ur experience claims... Plz I need ur guidance so that I won't make mistake wia am trying to acquire points and get banned... Thank waiting for ur reply

I assessed my work experience with EA and I submitted the same documents I used for my assessment fire my application with DIBP. I submitted my pay slips, reference letter from my company stating at least 5 of my duties (these duties must portray that you are a practicing chemical engineer, my pension records and tax records.
I had no CO contact and so I guess all I submitted plus the fact that EA has assessed my experience convinced them.
If you have a good relationship with your Uncle, he should be able to cover for you just in case he is contacted. You must however package it well.
All the best.

Please, how exactly do you mean by 'OVER-CLAIMED POINTS'? For instance I have 9years work experience, and I have ALL the necessary documents required of me by DIBP. Now, I go for assessment and apply for skills and qualification assessment, excluding work experience assessment. How exactly will DIBP penalize me for what you call OVER-CLAIMED work experience? Have you asked yourself why EA made work experience assessment optional? Have you asked yourself why DIBP still carries out verification on work experience claimed, despite the fact that your assessing body assessed you for the 9years you tendered? Which implies that they can still slash whatever the assessing body approved for you. It's at their discretion. They have the power to nullify whatever assessment outcome one uploads. The list of questions goes on and on and on...

I'd leave mine to the discretion of DIBP.

Thanks... No offence.

Yea....i understand...to each his own. I assessed my work experience and I have no regrets. I know people that were denied because they did not have all they needed to back up their experience and so their years were cut down. If you have all your documents, you can leave it to the discretion of DIBP. Like I said, to each his own. Assessing my work experience worked for me and my Grant is with me.
All the best!

thanks for your reply.

We were paid with Cheque and the amount wasn't that convincing.
Can cheque photocopies or the books(I know they have a copy) serve the purpose.
I've an Engineering firm registered, up to 1.6 years now, should I use this firm documents, get a tax clearance to substitute this incase I don't get a payslip or if it below what they consider professional fee?

Thanks again.

I think photocopies of the cheques can suffice. The company name would appear on the cheque and so it should stand as a proof. You might need to do some explanation though. Most of the assessors understand some of these challenges. Above All, back it up with prayer. If your assessor is understanding, you are good to go.

For the tax records, you have to show that you paid tax while you were working and so it is expected that the company name will appear on the tax records. I am really not sure of how your lersonal company tax records will tally with the company you were working. However, I think other gurus here might throw more light.

Has anyone had a positive assessment with EA without a payslips? The companies I've worked for declined to give me but indicated they will outlined it on the reference letter. Please what am I to do, is there a solution to this situation?

This is a dicey one. How were you paid? If they paid into your bank account, print out your statement of account and use a highlight pen to highlight your salary coming in.
I have over 7 years experience but i didnt have payslips for the first 10 months. Out of the 10 months, I was paid by hand for 6 months and paid into acct for the remaining 4 months. I submitted my statement of account for the 4 months and it was counted. The 6 months which I was paid by hand wasn't counted as I had no proof. Luckily for me, the deduction didn't have an effect on my points.
So you can do same. Hope this helps...
All the best!

I look forward to your response.

How do I know points I will be claiming when submitting my EOI if EA does not do work experience assessment?
I am sure of less cost of assessment but dont understand better chances at maximum work points.
Is DIBP also involved in Skill assessment thereby giving me choices to select from the options of EA or DIBP?
Help clarify these questions Sir.
Thanks Sir.

In my opinion, it's better to be safe than sorry. Most people are refused visas because they overclaimed points...especially when a deduction in your years of experience will reduce your points below 60. That been said, it's safer to assess your work experience with EA. When the outcome comes, you can calculate your points clearly and know your chances. It might cost more but you will not be left in suspense. That's what I did and it worked for me.
All the best

Usually hospitals and clinics keep immunisation registers, in nurses like to keep their own records a lot.
So go back to the clinic. If they don't have the records, I believe one or two nurses there will know you. They will be able to fill a new one for you.

Ok. Thanks. Will explore this option. I'm just a little sceptical because it's a health centre. Not so sure about them keeping data. Will go there anyways. Thanks
