The Peoples Democratic Party in Kano State has rejected the presidential results for the state announced in Kano State by the Independent National Electoral Commission. The party’s Agent at the collation centre, Alhaji Rabiu Sulaiman-Bichi, who is also the state PDP Chairman, alleged on Tuesday that the figures were inflated. “We cannot accept such an inflated figures and that is our stand, so we will go back and analyse the issue to know the next line of action to take. “As you can see, the presiding officers complained of lack of use of card readers during the voting exercise of the presidential and national assembly elections in the state coupled with over-voting. “We shall look at the circumstances and provisions of the law and see what the law says so as to pursue our rights,” he said. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the PDP Chairman, however, signed and collected a copy of the result sheet. (NAN) |

APC supporters disenfranchised in Dogara's constituency--APC By Najib Sani, Bauchi Bauchi State chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) has reacted to the outcome of the National Assembly election held in Dass, Tafawa Balewa and Bogoro local governments federal constituency of the state on Saturday which declared the Speaker house of representatives Yakubu Dogara of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) winner. Addressing newsmen yesterday, the state APC chairman Uba Ahmed Nana alleged that the election was allegedly marred by many irregularities such as disenfranchisement of All Progressive Congress (APC) members at polling units in Bogoro and Tafawa Balewa local governments by suspected PDP thugs. He alleged that in most of the polling units where APC candidate was suspected to have highest votes, the speaker's supporters harassed and prevented people from voting. Aside that, Abubakar accused the PDP of attacking APC agents at polling units in many places in the two local government areas with a view to forcing to compromise and alter results. " PDP is scared of humiliating defeat by our candidate Honourable Kantana and they know that if that happened, the speaker Dogara would be embarrassed. So they engaged thugs to harrass and prevent voters believed to be in support of the APC candidate from casting their votes". " The truth is that the constituents are fed up with Dogara's domination over the years without commensurate dividends of democracy. So the speaker's supporters resorted to all forms of electoral malpractices to make sure he is retained as representative of Dass, Tafawa Balewa and Bogoro constituency". He alleged. Our correspondent reports that according to the results announced at the collation center in Zwall, Dogara won the election with 73, 000 votes as against the APC candidate Dalhatu Kantana who polled 50, 000 votes. |

Election: Soldiers harass Journalists in Bauchi It was nightmare for some journalists covering the Presidential and National Assembly election taking place today in Bauchi as armed soldiers along the Bauchi - Tafawa Balewa road harassed them in the course of carrying out their duties. The nasty experience first started at Dass local government when a fierce looking officer, lieutenant Y Ahmed, stopped a correspondent chapel bus conveying journalists on election duty. One of the journalists explained to him politely that they were journalists on election duty. This innocent introduction did not go well with the officer who barked 'park! park! as his subordinates joined the fray to querie the journalists. "Are you more special than us? If you are on election duty so what? Park my friend. See my name. You want to see my name? Whoever you what to call, call," The reporters were taken aback by the sudden emotional outburst of the officer without any provocation. What was amazing was that all the journalists were putting on the vests and p-caps givens by INEC to accredited journalists. Since the officer kept ranting even subordinates brandished their guns, one of the journalists stated that if the Lieutenant would border to seek the identity of the people I'm the bus, he would discover that some are very senior and experienced journalists. This further infuriated became more livid, saying "because you are journalists you want us to come and bow down for you?, he retorted as he went about attending to some civilians inside J-4 bus that they had stopped. It took the intervention of the Chairman of the Correspondent's Chapel, Mr Segun Awofadeji, who was leading the team, to calm the situation as after calmly explaining the mision as the Lieutenant became sober . After few minutes of doing nothing, he eventually order the bus to proceed, but the damage is done as the journalists were unable to meet Speaker Yakubu Dogara cast his vote at his polling unit at the Gwaranga poling unit at 9: 45. |

Leader of Tijjaniya Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi endorses Speaker Dogara Prominent Islamic scholar and leader of the Darikatul Tijjaniya Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, has urged the people of Bogoro/Dass/Tafawa Balewa federal constituency in Bauchi state to vote for the Speaker House of Representatives, Hon Yakubu Dogara in Saturday’s National Assembly elections. Speaking in Bauchi when the Speaker paid him a visit at the his residence, Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi called on the people of Bauchi state to reject politicians who use religion to divide them. He said Hon Dogara’s track records of religious tolerance, peace building and worthy representation speak for themselves and he should be encouraged to do even more. He noted that the Speaker has done remarkably well in bringing dividends of democracy to his constituency, Bauchi state and the north east region, hence the need for the people to reciprocate it by re-electing him on Saturday. He told his followers that "it will be more prefarable to vote for a Christian than a member of the Izala Movement who does not see or regard members of Tijjaniya sect as Muslims.” He however said, “Both Darika and Izala are under the umbrella of Islam, our religion, but the person they are imposing on the people is the same man who is well known in insulting our renown scholars, elders, and yet he is calling himself a Muslim. It is like a direct insult to my father, mother, scholars, mentors and spiritual leaders and we'll never support such person. Sheik Dahiru Bauchi also offered special prayers for the success of the speaker in the election and also prayed for the continued peace and unity of the state and country at large. In his remark, Hon Dogara expressed gratitude for the continued prayers of the cleric for the peace, unity, stability development of Nigeria. Dogara decried that over 1.3 million children are out of school in Bauchi state, stating that the number will keep increasing unless the people elect a government that truly cares about uplifting the standard of education in the state. He warned that if care is not taken, the number of out of school children may reach five million in the next few years which portends great danger to the society. Earlier, an Islamic Scholar, Sheikh Muhammad Balarabe Isah Ginzum informed Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi that speaker Dogara had built Islamiyya schools in all the the three local governments in his constituency among other interventions aimed at helping the Muslim community.
