Hello house, I got admitted at University of North Carolina at Charlotte for masters in information technology(fall semester) and the graduate coordinator mailed me saying funding is limited for masters student but I would be able to get on campus job when I resume and I would be considered for assistanceship on my second semester.
please my question now is, how much can one possibly make via on campus jobhuh (Best case and worst case scenario)
please all manner of response would be appreciated so that i can make a good decision as am still awaiting admission decisions from UTEP, Cleveland state University and Arizona state University
Lagosismyhome, BigFrancis21,femi312, align360, folmus, Walspring, Imperiouxx, and every guru in the house
My reply might be late. I'll say wait for decisions from other schools.

In UTEP, once you are able to get any job/Assistance from any department or office with up to 20 hours, you will be considered for instate tuition. The assitantship might be research, teaching or normal graduate assitant. Also on-campus jobs is limited here.

I logged into my account and saw this in the picture.
I requested my official GRE score to be sent to them and ETS have confirmed that it was sent to them since 13th of December. I have sent a mail to them about it but I don't know what the "other" means.
Do I have to send official transcript before they give admission?
Hi,just seeing this. No you don't need to send an official transcript.i took mine to the grad school in person when I got to school. Give them a call from 8:30am (4:30pm naija).

Greetings from UTEP,

To all prospective intl' students, don't give up ur dreams.

And to everyone contributing in one way or the other, keep it up.

Just to chip in, don't base your considerations solely on high ranking schools. Spread your tentacles. Apply to more mid ranked schools. Reach out via emails and build rapport with the admission coordinators.

Some low to middle rank schools are rich in resources to get funding when you start your degrees. And there's a lot of schools endowed with much funding but not highly ranked.

Don't give up.

Visa Approved on Monday @ Abuja.
Woke up repeatedly between 2 o'clock and 4:30, like about 10 times. (I no wan miss my Interview oo) grin. Finally woke up by 4:30 and said a short thank you prayer. Listened to a few songs and entered Nairaland. I arrived the embassy some minutes past 7. My interview was scheduled for 7:30. THe Husslers rushed me and started preaching. These guys wan chop my N1500, that my passport is not 2*2. I come check everybody own come see say my own dey different. I come fear small, lock up shaa. They were discouraging me that I'll be sent back. One guy use reverse psychology say make I go try and come back to them if i'm sent back. I passed the first security and was happy I scaled through. I jammed another document check and scaled through. I knew angels dey for my front (in phyno’s voice).

VO: Good morning, Pass me your I20.
VO: So why NCAT?
Me: Because of the ongoing research by Dr. Gary lebby on Biologically Inspired Energy and Engineering Systems. Also, the University has an Agric and BioEnergy farm which uses a Biogas Plant designed and maintained by the Electrical Engineering Department. I will be learning how to build and maintain this biogas plants 'cos I plan to build and supply this plants to Institutions when I come back after my studies.
VO: What's your program?
Me: Masters in Electrical Engineering.
VO: Explain how the Biogas plant works?
Me: It involves the anaerobic decomposition of organic wastes from pigs, cattle and birds to produce Methane and Carbon dioxide. These gases are used for lighting and heating.
VO: Who's sponsoring you?
Me: My Uncle
VO: What does he do? Me: He supplies and distributes petroleum products.
VO: Types, then looks up. From my Findings , biogas studies in under Biological Engineering? Why did you say Electrical?
Me: I studied Electronic Engineering as my first degree, so I decided to Apply to Electrical Engineering. Also the research by the Dr. Gary Lebby in Electrical Engineering exactly aligns with my career goals.
VO: Did you write any Exams?
Me: Yes, I wrote GRE and TOEFL.
VO: Let me see your scores.
Me: Shows him the scores.
VO: Which universities did you apply to?
Me: LSU, IIT, NJIT and NCAT
VO: Typing furiously, then looks up again. It doesn't rhyme with what I have on your score card. Which universities did you send your scores to?
Me: NCSU, TAMUK, NJIT and LSU (Note: NCAT is the least ranked of all these schools). But I applied to only LSU and NCAT and NJIT.
VO: Why didn't you apply to NCSU?
Me: Cos their TOEFL cut off was 92,and I scored 91. So i decided to apply to another school.
VO: Have you been to the US?
Me: No I haven't.
VO: Why didn't you apply for visa last year?
Me: I wrote my exams in October and November, then applied thereafter. I got my i20s this year. I paid my Sevis after I got my I20s, then paid my Visa fee and applied for Visa Interview.
VO: When exactly did you apply to each of these schools?
Me: I applied to NCAT and LSU last year, and NJIT and IIT this year.
VO Leaves for a minute to cross check the scores? (Note: I wrote my ETS username and password to my GRE and TOEFL accounts on the score sheet - A trick I learned on NL)
VO: Comes back and stares at me for a while. Types and then utters the "I'll be granting your visa..."
Me: Was just staring at him, blanked out (Thought this blanking out na joke oo). I just said thank you when he slid my I20 and the white papers.
I walked out of the embassy keeping a straight face. All those securities and Husslers will be like this guy no make am. Inside my heart was just singing "Chineke Nna emegokwa nwa Nairaland Ezege…"
Got back to my lodge and viewed the white papers very well, to make sure na White e be. grin

My thoughts:

Be confident, know the purpose of your visit(your program) very well and be ready to communicate what every detail of the program is all about, and how it will influence your career goals (In your home country).

Be Concise. Go straight to the point when answering questions. Be truthful in all your answers (my interviewer repeated questions indirectly). Speak confidently and yet humbly and truthfully.

Know about the school and why you chose it over other US institutions (both in US and other countries).

Answer truthfully about past visits outside your home country, whether US or other countries. IMO it doesn’t matter. I had a virgin passport.

Dress professionally like a student, but don't overdress (I wore a white shirt and tie, on a trouser).

Carry all your relevant documents (I went with my I20, Admission Letter, GRE and TOEFL scores, Financial Docs, Sevis, DS160 and Appointment Confirmation, Visa Fee receipt from GT Bank, Transcripts, UG and NYSC cert, Birth Cert, 2*2 passport) and most importantly International Passport. Pray to return with all docs together with the White papers an excluding your Intl Passport.

Maintain a positive attitude at all times (I just kept on smiling even though my heart wanted to escape).

Last but not the least, Get knowledge about the whole process (from start to finish) and prepare well. Nairaland deserves more acclaim than we give it - from the GRE thread, to the Visa thread, to the other student threads. Nairaland has been my Weekly Digest since last year. Chillax and study the threads.
A lady applied to different programs in different schools, she had a tough time defending her actions. Don't know the outcome of her interview, My ears were just tuning in and out to the 3 VOs' questions.

Thank You God. Nara Ekene, Riwo Otito Fada Fada! cool

Thanks to all the big guys helping us out here (So many). This is one true big family. Forget the squabbles, we doing great a great job here.

Today, I learnt a lot in just a short experience;
1) TRUST GOD TOTALLY
2) BE YOURSELF
3) KNOW WHY YOU REALLY WANT TO GO ABROAD (whether about the school, course or whatever is taking you there)
4) DONT OVER-THINK IT, LET IT COME NATURALLY AND SPEAK LOUD AND CLEAR.
5) BE AS SIMPLE AS POSSIBLE YET ELEGANT
6) LASTLY, BE TRUTHFUL ( because somehow the VOs know)
7) DONT LOOK DOWN ON ANYONE
Congrats Duran and thanks for this piece. Very inspiring.

NL is indeed a blessing to many. Visa approvals flowing like milk and honey.
God's grace to all those that have gotten their visas and to those (me invluded) still expecting.

PoliticsRe: Top 10 States With The Highest Number Of Billionaires by Kapitain(m): 11:11pm On May 22, 2016
Some of you citing one or two or three billionaires from a state should reconsider. Anambra and Ogun has reasonable higher number of billionaires because of the high number of industrialists from these states.

No Facts, just thinking!

@Pennstate
Pennstate greetings! I recently got admitted to LSU, but they've not mentioned anything about funding in the provisional admission letter. I've contacted the graduate program coordinator of my department (ECE)... No response from him yet!

My questions are these:
1. Should I go ahead and send a financial affidavit, hoping i'll get funding decision in my I20/Official admission letter?
2. When do they notify admitted students of funding?

Also got admitted to NCAT (No funding decision yet) and IIT (they said No funding at all).

I need funding.
Happy Easter Y'all.

Learn strategies... There are compulsory strategies to know if yu want to answer most verbal qs. My favorite is "filling in the Gap(s) with my own word before looking at the options... Another is pairing the options and eliminating non matching pairs to ur choice word...

Go through magoosh strategies. Google YouTube for" gre verbal strategies". No fear, continue ur prep in confidence.
PhonesRe: Mobile Number Portability - Why You Should Port Your Number? by Kapitain(op): 3:22pm On Jan 23, 2016
Some Ppl are tired of mtn, just scared of loosing their numbers. Why put Ppl thru recounting pressures to re-register ur sim?? money, time, energy??

Chule:
sadthinkn of portin my glo to etisa,

what do u think
It's easy. All you need is to go to the office (In this etisalat) with an ID card. It's free. And you can always port back to any network, and taste other networks. smiley
PhonesMobile Number Portability - Why You Should Port Your Number? by Kapitain(op):
What is Mobile Number Portabilty (MNP)?
This is a service from NCC that enables anyone to change from one network to another, while retaining their original number. This means that someone with 08051234567 (Glo) can port to Airtel and retain the same 08051234567 on the Airtel network OR 08061234567 (Mtn) to Etisalat network and retain the same number on the Etisalat network.

With the mtn January 31st deadline for sim re-registrations, most people affected are already panicking about loosing their most precious lines (numbers) if eventually their lines are blocked. This could affect their businesses, establishments, job applications, etc. You don't have to loose that number.. Simply port your MTN line to any of the other networks (Etisalat, Glo, Airtel, etc), retain your line and have peace of mind.

I ported my line in 2014 and I've been enjoying the services of my new network. My brother is a victim of the MTN reregistration. He just ported his MTN line to etisalat today.

For more information about MNP visit:
