Does that mean Magneto exists in the MCU, along with the other mutants?
No. Not yet, at least.

Guys is Scarlett witch Magneto's daughter?
cause there was this X-Men cartoon I used to watch where he had a son and a daughter.
The son was a speedster and the daughter had jean grey like powers
Yep. Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver are Magneto's children.

So then I can call a show like the umbrella academy full blown science fiction
Have only watched the first season of Umbrella Academy. So far, I wouldn't call it a full-blown sci-fi. There's also elements of the fantasy and supernatural genre present.

According to the article, it falls somewhere between hard fantasy and soft science. It clearly indicates that it is a hybrid genre. It's exactly what I said.

You can't call every superhero fiction a science fiction because science and its ramifications aren't at the heart of the superhero genre. For crying out loud, superhero fiction genre was created for this very purpose.

I don't claim to be an expert on the subject, but I do know that while speculative fiction is an umbrella term for elements that do not exist in reality, science fiction differs from it in that some of it deals with plausible scientific elements.

I can provide links to articles that support what I've said, but I don't have the time. You can always look it up yourself.
But I never called every superhero fiction a sci-fi. We were talking about The Boys, specifically, and I pointed out that it does have sci-fi elements.
I wouldn't make the same argument for Loki, even though it's also a superhero TV series.

And let's not forget sub genres exist. The Boys having a sci-fi subgenre doesn't take away from its primary superhero fiction genre.

Superhero fiction isn't science fiction, chief. Look it up yourself if you don't believe me.
Superhero fiction falls between the hard fantasy and soft sci-fi spectrum.
And sci-fi also falls under speculative fiction.

No, it's magical, which falls squarely within the purview of fantasy. There is no science creation that would have you shooting death rays from your eyes.

With few exceptions, the vast majority of superhero movies and shows are pure fantasy. Their abilities are mostly magical, with no real-world explanation.
Sounds like you're missing the fiction in sci-fi. The whole point is that the science doesn't exist in the real world.
The creation of the super-powered individuals in The Boys is through a scientific process. The administration of a a deliberately synthesized chemical compound designated as Compound V. As there are no real life instances of such a scenario, the science is fictitious. Hence, it definitely falls in the realm of science fiction.

If the powers were gotten from administering some substance of unknown origin, then it would indeed fall squarely within the purview of fantasy.

The Boys contains no supernatural or science fiction elements. In general, it's a fantasy with sprinklings of satire, adventure, superhero, dark comedy, and action.
Hold up. Chemical cocktail that gives you superhuman abilities is not in the realm of sci-fi?

If I were to make a series about Vampires...you would agree supernatural works right?

What if I later revealed the vampires were made through scientific experimentation? - it suddenly becomes sci-fi?

Then what if last episode, I revealed the source of the injections that were used to turn people into vampires were derived from the corpse of a real life vampire centuries ago?

Can you now see...you can't keep shifting...a story can contain multiple elements...
One element in a movie doesn't automatically remove the others
Nobody's saying a story can't have multiple elements or different genres. But if there have been no elements of the supernatural genre in the story in question, then you can't just tag it supernatural on a whim. It's really not that difficult to understand.

Also, might as well add that, NO! Genre tags are not subjective. But we live in 2020 where people do whatever they like irrespective of how ignorant they may be on the subject.

The plot is cliched and this wasn't a good version. It was when the Chris Evans/Lloyd arch started, that i stopped taking it serious, Up till then, it gave off as a "serious spy movie". The screenplay was bad and everything basically fell out of place from there. I could go on and on but you have your heart set that you got what you expected from the movie...but for me...No.

Simply in your opinion, all things considered, was it good movie? did it tick all the boxes?
It was definitely a good movie.

What boxes are we ticking?
Plot was definitely cliché asf.
Characters were mostly tropey. The only one who did anything surprising was Fitzroy. You could still see his betrayal coming though.
Action scenes served.
Pace was kept fast enough you to stop you from thinking about anything too much.
It was a fun experience, all things considered.
TV/Movies › Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by Kaycee7(m): 4:53pm On Jul 26, 2022
oyaskii:
The movie had a clear identity crisis...it plays like a serious spy movie but the dialogues were weirdly structured, whimsical and simply off putting.

It was billed as an "Action thriller" on a budget of $200m.... forgive me for expecting better tbh.
The movie features a spy assassin with a heart of gold and it lets you know this in the first 10 minutes of the film. How it plays like a "serious spy movie" to you is beyond my understanding. The tropes were pretty clear and recognizable. You could predict the plot just about 5 minutes into the movie. And the dialogue matches the tone, establishes the character and even keys the viewer into what's coming in certain scenes.

You've got 2 A-listers, a top-tier B-lister in Ana de Armas, a veteran Billy Bob Thornton and the Russo Bros of MCU fame directing, it's not hard to figure where most of the $200m went.

I have no reason to be bias against it.

It isn't a top notch movie with great dialogue except "great dialogue" has a different meaning.

At bolded, you basically just repeated what i said in my review... Entertainment yes....Plot or any coherent value...No...and the mixed ratings clarifies this.
Witty exchanges between the characters. Lloyd. Sosa's eccentric and awkward stalling. Lloyd.
The cheeky teenage girl. Did I mention Lloyd?

What exactly was wrong with the dialogue?

You have singled out Cavill as the villain in this shitshow despite the fact that WB have continually shown they are hopeless in handling delicate situations.
There are rumors that Cavill doesn't want to do only cameos but want his own film and more creative control.
These are fairly reasonable demands, and if WB really care about the future of DCEU, they'd give it to him.
Certainly some of us see it this way.
But some of you in this thread would rather take the side of a proven incompetent corporation over an actor who not only has proven he's tailor made for the role of superman, but has shown he's willing to come back as long as his demands are met.
I mean, just take a look at abduleez posts.
Those posts read like what a campaign manager would write about a political rival.
Those posts are completely unfair, unflattering and straightup propaganda.
It's beyond strange to take the side of a soulless corporation over a marketable actor.
Bruh, you're the one creating scenarios in your head because, apparently, people simply having a different perspective or opinion on an issue is seemingly beyond your comprehension.

You feel Cavill's demands are reasonable. I disagree.

You feel WB needs him more than he needs them. I also disagree.

And if disagreeing with those notions means I'm singling out Cavill as the villain, then suit yourself.

You keep hammering on this "corporation" thing and it's giving vibes that you don't really get how corporations works. It feels like your knowledge of them comes from the movies where they serve as antagonists.
Corporations are made up of board members with stakes in the company. Just about everything they do is decided in meetings where there's deliberations and voting. Now Cavill has at least 3 demands, if rumours are to be believed. Some members could agree with 2 but not a third. Some could agree with only one, some with none and some could even agree with the whole thing. But since the board can't come to a consensus yet, the notion of agreeing with Cavill's demands will remain pending until either Cavill proposes a more agreeable set of demands or the board members lobby each other into supporting the eventual majority.

This is simply business, not Superman vs Lexcorp.

From there vitriol, I've surmised they are more WB fans than DC fans.
No real DC fan will spew such nonsense.
Their nonsense talk starts and end in nairaland shaa.
If they try such nonsense on the DC subreddit, they will be downvoted to oblivion.
Funny. Here's a Cavill stan getting downvoted on a DC subreddit.
Also, throughout the whole thread, people are calmly having back and forths over the issue. It's almost like the fanbase actually has different views and opinions on this issue. Shocker!
