Dangote Refinery has reduced its fuel price massively, with the ex-depot price dropping to N699 per litre, down from N828 per litre. This represents a N129, or 15.58%, reduction in petrol prices, marking approximately the 20th price review this year. The reduction is aimed at gaining a competitive advantage over the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited and other filling stations in Nigeria. The move follows announcements by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company and fuel filling stations of at least two price reductions in the past three weeks, pushing the retail price between N915 and N937 per litre in Abuja. Industry analysts say the move by Dangote Refinery is likely to intensify competition and could influence broader retail pricing ahead of the festive period. The refinery's decision to reduce prices is part of its commitment to providing high-quality petrol at affordable rates, benefiting consumers across the nation. This is not the first time Dangote Refinery has reduced fuel prices. Earlier this year, the refinery reduced prices six times, with the updated prices ranging between N875 and N905 per litre, varying by location. However, the reduction in fuel prices is expected to have a positive impact on the economy, providing relief to consumers and contributing to broader economic growth. The Dangote Refinery has invested over N720 billion to implement its initiative of deploying 4,000 Compressed Natural Gas-powered trucks for the nationwide distribution of petroleum products, expected to save Nigerians over N1.7 trillion annually.

Lere Olayinka, A Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, has reacted to the expulsion of his principals, Nyesom Wike and ex-Governor of Ekiti, Ayo Fayose, describing it as “Detty December in November’ coming early in Ibadan. In a statement sent to Vanguard on Saturday, Olayinka noted that PDP members had travelled to Ibadan to begin their celebrations long before December arrived, adding that whatever comments emerged from the gathering should be viewed in the context of an intoxicated social party. “They went to Ibadan to start their own Detty December in November. When people decide to start their Dirty December early, one can’t help but ignore whatever comes out of their mouths,” he said. He added that the group had gathered purely for social enjoyment and, after indulging in drinks, were “free to say anything,” implying that their statements should not be taken too seriously. Earlier, Vanguard reported that the People’s Democratic Party PDP on Saturday expelled former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory FCT, Nyesome Wike, factional chairman of the party, Samuel Anyanwu and former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, from the party over anti-party activities The motion for their expulsion, which was unanimously supported by the members of the party at the ongoing PDP National Convention in Ibadan was moved which was moved by one of the founding fathers of the party, Chief Bode George and seconded by Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohamed. Recall that several court orders were issued stopping the PDP’s convention in Ibadan, including one that was issued yesterday with several of the party’s bigwigs such as the former President of the Senate urging the Damugum-led faction of the PDP to obey court order and avoid moves capable of imploding the party.

In the early hours of today, 21st October 2025, about 62 dental students were officially transferred from the University of Calabar (UNICAL) to Rivers State University (RSU). This development comes following the intervention and resolution of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) President, Comr. Obo Emmanuel, who engaged in several deliberations with the school management. With approval from the management, the students most especially those in the C2B (500B) class were permitted to join the 400-level Medicine students at RSU. While some students expressed joy at the possibility of graduating earlier than their medical counterparts at UNICAL, others were overwhelmed by the emotional weight of having to restart and adjust to a new academic environment. The students were conveyed this morning in a Delking vehicle, carrying their belongings as they departed the campus. However, not all students were included in the move. According to the SUG President in a prior meeting, a full class could not be relocated. The 62 transferred students are those officially allowed to go while the others are those fully accredited under the Dentistry department by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN).

When former President Goodluck Jonathan said in 2014 that “stealing is not corruption,” many Nigerians shouted him down. We ridiculed him, called him weak on corruption, and used his words as evidence of poor leadership. The phrase became symbolic of everything wrong with his administration—or so we thought. But today, in the harsh light of reality, we are beginning to understand the depth of what he may have been trying to say. Jonathan’s comment wasn’t necessarily to excuse wrongdoing, but to draw a distinction between grand systemic corruption and the petty, everyday stealing that has eaten deep into our moral fabric. He was echoing a sad truth: what we call “corruption” is often just stealing wearing a suit and it’s happening at every level of our society. A Society Where Stealing Has Been Normalized How do you explain a police officer trained, armed, and paid by the state escorting a known fraudster, a “Yahoo boy,” from one nightclub to another, protecting him like a VIP? Is that not theft of justice? Is that not stealing the dignity of law enforcement? Or go to your local bank. A security man at the gate, whose job is to ensure safety and order, expects you to tip him just because he opened the gate. That’s not a favor it’s corruption in its rawest, most basic form. Even parents are not exempt. A mother bribes teachers or exam officials just to make sure her child gets the highest position in class. What lessons is that child learning about merit, fairness, or hard work? When that child grows up and enters politics or business, what will stop him from doing worse? Corruption Is No Longer at the Top It’s Now in Us We often point fingers at politicians and rightly so. Our leaders steal billions from our common wealth without pointing a gun at anyone. They take hospital money while the sick die. They loot education budgets while children sit on bare floors. But maybe the bigger tragedy is that we, the people, are becoming just like them. We tip to get ahead. We cheat because others cheat. We accept dishonesty as the norm. Slowly, the lines between right and wrong have blurred. Goodluck Jonathan’s words now sound prophetic. When he said “stealing is not corruption,” perhaps he was warning us that our obsession with political corruption had blinded us to the moral collapse happening everywhere else. So What Do We Do Now? If we want a better Nigeria, we must understand that corruption isn’t just what the big men in Abuja do it’s also what we allow in our everyday lives. • The bus conductor who inflates fare is corrupt. • The teacher who takes money for grades is corrupt. • The mechanic who swaps your car parts is corrupt. • The civil servant who delays files without bribe is corrupt. Until we start calling stealing what it really is, and stop excusing it at any level, Nigeria will keep bleeding from the inside out. Final Words Maybe Goodluck Jonathan wasn’t just making a technical argument. Maybe he was pointing at a deeper truth: stealing is not corruption stealing is worse. It’s direct. It’s personal. It’s evil. And it’s everywhere. We laughed at him then. But look around you now. He wasn’t lying. |

In recent years, Nigeria has witnessed a significant shift in the financial behaviors of its citizens, driven by economic challenges such as rising inflation and high unemployment rates. A growing number of Nigerians, particularly young adults, are turning to sports betting as a way to make quick money and cope with economic pressures. However, while sports betting may offer temporary financial relief, it presents long-term risks and unsustainable habits. The real hope for the future lies in promoting more stable, sustainable financial choices that can help individuals achieve lasting economic stability. The Economic Context: Inflation and Unemployment Nigeria's economic landscape has been marked by a surge in inflation and high unemployment, which have created financial hardships for many families. Inflation has eroded purchasing power, leading to rising costs of everyday essentials such as food, fuel, and housing. Meanwhile, unemployment has reached concerning levels, particularly among the youth, who face limited job opportunities despite high education levels. The lack of financial security and opportunity has pushed many Nigerians to look for alternative ways to generate income. The Appeal of Sports Betting As traditional avenues of income and financial stability become more elusive, sports betting has emerged as a tempting option. With the rise of online platforms, betting has become easily accessible to a large population, especially the younger demographic. The appeal of winning quick money from sports events offers an alluring escape from daily struggles. For some, the possibility of a life-changing win in football, basketball, or other sports provides hope in the face of an uncertain economic future. However, the reality is that sports betting is a high-risk venture. The odds are heavily stacked against bettors, and many end up losing far more money than they gain. The psychological impact of frequent losses, combined with the compulsive nature of gambling, often leads to further financial hardship and emotional distress. The Risks of Relying on Betting Despite its immediate allure, sports betting offers no real long-term solution to Nigeria’s economic woes. In fact, it often exacerbates the financial instability faced by many. The addictive nature of gambling can lead to a cycle of losses, creating a financial hole that is difficult to climb out of. Furthermore, the lack of regulation in the betting industry means that many individuals are vulnerable to scams and exploitative practices that only deepen their financial struggles. The Need for Sustainable Financial Choices While sports betting may provide a temporary outlet for Nigerians seeking to improve their financial situations, the true path to economic security lies in more sustainable financial choices. Financial literacy and planning are key to helping individuals manage their finances effectively, build savings, and make informed decisions about investments. Government initiatives aimed at promoting financial literacy, alongside education on budgeting, saving, and investing, can equip Nigerians with the tools they need to build wealth over time. Encouraging entrepreneurship, diversifying sources of income, and investing in skill development can also offer more stable alternatives to gambling. Additionally, promoting access to microloans, affordable credit, and financial services tailored to the needs of low-income households can provide Nigerians with the means to improve their financial stability without resorting to high-risk activities like betting. While rising inflation and unemployment in Nigeria are understandably pushing more individuals to turn to sports betting as a means of financial survival, this path is fraught with risks and is ultimately unsustainable. The real hope for the Nigerian economy lies in empowering citizens with the knowledge and resources to make informed, sustainable financial choices. By focusing on financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and access to stable financial systems, Nigeria can build a more secure future for its people and reduce the dependency on short-term, risky endeavors like sports betting.

The phenomenon of "japa," characterized by the mass emigration of Nigerians seeking better opportunities abroad, has profound implications not only for society but also for the preservation of local languages. As more individuals leave the country, the risk of language extinction becomes increasingly real. Here are some key points highlighting the negative effects of japa on local languages: 1.Diminished Language Use As individuals migrate, especially the younger generations, the daily use of local languages decreases. In diaspora communities, English or the dominant language of the host country often becomes the primary mode of communication. This shift can lead to a gradual decline in the use of indigenous languages, particularly among children who may grow up in environments where their parents speak less of their native tongues. 2.Cultural Transmission Breakdown Language is a critical vessel for cultural heritage and identity. When people migrate, they often take their language with them, but the transmission of that language and its associated cultural practices can falter. If children are not taught their parents’ languages, crucial aspects of culture—stories, traditions, and proverbs—risk being lost, contributing to the erosion of cultural identity over generations. 3.Loss of Linguistic Diversity Nigeria is home to hundreds of languages, each reflecting the unique culture and worldview of its speakers. The trend of japa can lead to a decline in linguistic diversity as speakers of lesser-known languages migrate and do not pass on their languages to future generations. This loss not only affects communities but also diminishes the richness of global linguistic diversity. 4.Social Isolation Language is a key factor in fostering community and social bonds. As migration increases and local languages decline, communities may face social isolation. Individuals who remain may feel disconnected from their cultural roots, leading to a fragmented social fabric where shared language and traditions that once united them begin to fade. 5.Shifts in Educational Focus As more Nigerians pursue education abroad, there can be a shift in focus away from local languages in educational curricula. With a greater emphasis on global languages such as English, local languages may receive less attention, further marginalizing them and contributing to their decline. This shift can create a cycle where young people are less motivated to learn or value their indigenous languages. 6.Generational Gap The migration of parents or older community members can create a generational gap in language proficiency. Younger generations, left with fewer speakers of their native languages, may struggle to learn or appreciate the significance of their linguistic heritage. This gap can lead to a scenario where languages are only spoken by the elderly, resulting in diminished intergenerational communication and knowledge transfer. Conclusion The japa phenomenon poses a significant threat to local languages in Nigeria, accelerating their decline and risking extinction. To combat this trend, it is essential to promote the value of indigenous languages through education, community initiatives, and cultural programs. Encouraging bilingualism, where young people learn both their native languages and global languages, can help preserve linguistic diversity. By fostering an environment that celebrates and prioritizes local languages, Nigeria can safeguard its rich cultural heritage for future generations. |
**A Very Sad Tale and Commentary on Our Present Reality 🤦🏽♂🤦🏽♂🤦🏽♂** "Many Nigerian families will never be together again. Not because they don’t want to be, but because they simply can never be together again. In a world that seems to have become increasingly interconnected, the reality for many Nigerian families tells a different story. The firstborn has found a new life in Canada, pursuing opportunities that were unattainable at home. The second sibling has established roots in Dubai, where the vibrant cityscape promises a future filled with potential. The third sibling is thousands of miles away in Australia, drawn by the allure of stability and security. The fourth sibling has made a home in New York, embracing the hustle of a city that never sleeps. Meanwhile, the youngest is navigating life in the UK, carving out their own path amidst the cultural richness. Back in Nigeria, their parents are left with memories of a once-unified family, now scattered across continents. They manage to visit occasionally, but these trips are never enough to bridge the emotional distance. Each reunion is bittersweet, filled with laughter and nostalgia, yet tinged with the painful reality of separation. As they all embark on their individual journeys, they are also starting families of their own. Children are being born into this diaspora—children who will never truly know their cousins, aunts, or uncles. The connections that once seemed strong are now weakened by distance. Video calls, once a lifeline, have become sporadic and often inconvenient, overshadowed by the complexity of global time zones. What could have been regular family gatherings are reduced to rare moments of virtual connection, lacking the warmth of physical presence. The reasons for this fragmentation are deeply rooted in a systemic failure. Many have felt compelled to leave Nigeria due to a lack of opportunities, safety, and a stable future. The heartbreaking truth is that Nigeria, in many ways, has failed its people, driving them to seek refuge in other countries where they can provide a better life for their children—one free from the struggles and hardships they themselves endured. This is the high price of 'japa'—the term that has come to symbolize the exodus of Nigerians in search of greener pastures. It’s a phenomenon that carries a weight that cannot be quantified financially. It’s the silent devastation of families, the tearing apart of siblings who once shared dreams and experiences. The negligence and incompetence of a government that has long abandoned its citizens is the underlying cause of this tragedy. For over a decade, the impact of poor leadership has reverberated through countless homes, eroding the very fabric of family life. This is the hidden cost of migration—a cost that, unfortunately, many are forced to bear in silence. As we reflect on this reality, it’s crucial to acknowledge the emotional toll it takes on families. We must confront the truth that behind every story of migration is a tale of loss, resilience, and the search for belonging. The consequences of these decisions will ripple through generations, shaping the identity of a new diaspora that may never fully feel at home, neither in their native land nor in their new environments." |

Notcoin’s stellar performance has gained the attention of various crypto analysts who are trying to understand the frenzy behind the social media-driven crypto project. We are now going to look at the growth trajectory of Notcoin from its beginnings to become the best-performing asset in the market at the moment. Notcoin’s Journey to 400% Gain in Value Notcoin began as a low-key in-game currency for a telegram-based clicker game powered by a bot. The project was launched in late 2023 and players could earn NOT tokens by tapping repeatedly on a virtual gold coin. This simple but yet effective strategy onboarded millions of crypto enthusiasts to the project hosted on the Telegram app. in May 2024, Notcoin expanded its project on the Telegram platform introducing various earning missions and tasks that allow users to earn tokens. The Play-to-earn model coupled with the massive user base of the telegram App seems to be the key to the massive adoption of Notcoin resulting in its surge in value. Trading Activity Surges to New Heights Notcoin’s daily transaction volume has surged to new heights. The daily transaction volume of the crypto asset surged over 220% surpassing the $4.5 billion mark. According to Coinpedia, this makes Notcoin the fourth-highest-traded cryptocurrency at the moment. Analysts believe the above success can be attributed to Notcoin’s adoption by Telegram’s large user base. This coupled with a successful airdrop campaign which saw users earn money in Nigeria. The surge in trading activity reflects the growing adoption of the Notcoin ecosystem where users earn tokens by playing games and completing tasks increasing user engagement. Whale Activity Boosts Notcoin Credibility Notcoin’s ecosystem received significant credibility when a crypto whale activity was spotted within its ecosystem. On Chain Data crypto resource firm Lookonchain spotted a crypto whale who invested 50,550 $TON($278K) to buy 46.4B $wNOT before $NOT was listed. The whale is now sitting on an unrealized profit of $862,000 The whale’s sizable holdings and potential future actions could significantly impact the token’s price stability. What to know Notcoin is quite popular in the Nigerian crypto space with many Nigerian crypto traders actively engaging in its trading and minting profits. A crypto whale is an investor with very large holdings in a particular crypto asset. Their actions and in actions directly affect the stability and prices of the crypto assets they are holding.

In recent years, there's been a significant shift in the career landscape, with a noticeable rise in entrepreneurship. The allure of being your own boss, coupled with the success stories of startups, has drawn many away from traditional 9-to-5 jobs. Yet, these paths are distinct, each with its own set of rewards and challenges. Understanding the nuances of entrepreneurship and traditional employment can help in determining which is better suited for your skills, personality, and career aspirations. The Rise of Entrepreneurship Entrepreneurship has gained momentum, fueled by technological advances, increased access to funding, and a broader acceptance of startups. The digital age has lowered barriers to entry for starting a business, with more resources and platforms available for entrepreneurs to launch and scale their ideas. Advantages of Entrepreneurship: 1. Autonomy and Flexibility: Entrepreneurs make their own decisions and set their schedules, offering a degree of independence that's often unattainable in traditional jobs. 2. Unlimited Potential: Unlike a salaried position, the financial rewards for successful entrepreneurs can be substantial, without a ceiling on the income potential. 3. Pursuit of Passion: Starting a business allows individuals to pursue their passions and create something meaningful and personally fulfilling. Challenges of Entrepreneurship: 1. Risk and Uncertainty: Startups face significant risks, with high rates of failure. Entrepreneurs must often deal with uncertainty in finances, job security, and business viability. 2. Work-Life Balance: The flexibility of entrepreneurship can often lead to blurred lines between work and personal life, sometimes leading to burnout. 3. Multifaceted Responsibilities: Entrepreneurs wear multiple hats, managing diverse aspects of their business, which can be overwhelming for some. Traditional Employment Traditional employment, often characterized by fixed working hours and a predictable routine, remains a preferred choice for many. It typically offers stability, a regular income, and a more clearly defined career path compared to the entrepreneurial route. Advantages of Traditional Employment: 1. Stability and Security: Regular paychecks, benefits like health insurance and retirement plans, and less personal financial risk are significant draws. 2. Defined Structure: Clear roles, responsibilities, and hierarchical structures provide a sense of order and clarity in one’s career progression. 3. Support Systems: Working in a company means access to resources, from human resources to technical support, and collaboration opportunities with colleagues. Challenges of Traditional Employment: 1. Limited Control: Employees often have less control over their work tasks, work environment, and schedules. 2. Income Ceiling: Salaries in traditional roles typically have an upper limit, which might be lower than the potential earnings of a successful entrepreneur. 3. Routine and Monotony: Some find the predictability of a 9-to-5 job stifling, leading to a lack of engagement or fulfillment. Who is Suited for Each Path? Entrepreneurship: - Individuals who are risk-takers, comfortable with uncertainty, and have a high tolerance for stress. - Those who are self-motivated, innovative, and adaptable to changing situations. - People who desire to make a direct impact through their work and are passionate about their ideas. Traditional Employment: - Those who value stability and a predictable routine in their professional life. - Individuals who prefer clear directives and structure, and who may not want the responsibility of running an entire operation. - Professionals who enjoy collaboration within a team environment and rely on organizational support systems for career progression. Choosing between entrepreneurship and traditional employment depends on personal priorities, risk tolerance, lifestyle preferences, and professional goals. Self-assessment of your goals, strengths, weaknesses, and desired lifestyle is critical in making this choice. In the modern career landscape, it's also worth noting that the lines are increasingly blurring, with many professionals exploring entrepreneurial ventures while maintaining traditional employment, either sequentially or simultaneously.

Truly, he slept with the lady several times. Later, the lady wanted more, but he had moved on & had told her he was done with sin. But perhaps, his approach infuriated the lady; she felt used & dumped. She went straight to the church & told the pastor how his youth pastor was sneaking into her room in the night to sleep with her. How after night vigil, she would hide at the back of the rusted water tank behind the church to 'finish work' Perhaps, if she was sure that the guy had encountered God afresh, she would have taken it easy. But she thought the guy had used her and dumped and started doing it with someone else. Don't blame her so much. Nobody would want to be in the number of the census of ladies a man has slept with. And the young man was suspended publicly and disgraced. He sat in the church back seat for many months. His head pastor ejected him from his house where he was given a one room apartment; with the fear that he will someday see his young daughters appealing and defile them. He had no place to go to... When he gave his life to Christ, he went straight to the village shrines and destroyed all of them. The villagers gathered began to worship the living God. The village elders passed judgement on him & banished him. His parents didn't want to set their eyes on him again, as the shame was so much to bear. When they heard that his church has ejected and suspended him for fornication, they jubiliated. That the gods of the land have caught up with him for discerecting them. The only place he could stay was inside an old uncompleted building, without roof. Any night it rains, he will be soaked. All he had there was his bible and few cloths. But he was there looking for God. He had failed both men & God. God had forgiven him, but men didn't want to set their eyes on him. The villagers will gather everyday mocking him. Some of his close pals abandoned him. But whenever we passed that old building, we will be hearing his voice; crying: "Lord, give me power...If truly You have forgiven me, give me Your anointing..." Months rolled by, he was still praying that same singular prayer. My late mum would cook everyday & give me to go & send to him. Sometimes, when I come to bring another food, I would see that he has not eaten the one we brought previously. He was always fasting & praying & crying. Later, the church restored him. But the stigma refused to go. Nobody called him pastor again. In church, they were avoiding him like a disease. Some of those sympathising with him didn't come open. One December period, A great man of God was supposed to preach in that community that Christmas period. Everyone was waiting for him. The sick, the blind & the lame had gathered, waiting for him. But a news came that he wasn't coming again. All the pastors in that community were disappointed, because no one could do what they expected God to do through this great man of God. The crusade was on... The choir was ministering, yet, they did not have anyone to preach. The crowd was much & their expectations were high. No pastor felt adequate to step into that shoe. Someone was moved to call this young man to come and preach. Not because they believed in him, but so that if he preaches & nothing happens, the shame will go to him alone. The young man didn't know what to do when they told him to go & preach. How can he face every one that knows how he failed. Everyone there knew that he was just suspended & released for fornication. He was crying, but he gathered courage & climbed the stage. When people saw him on the stage, they started leaving one after the other. The man that was supposed to do the interpretation dropped microphone & went down from the podium. All The crowd almost left, because they could not imagine what a fornicator had to offer. I was there when all of this was happening. Few of the people reading this now were there too. The young man was crying as he was watching the crowd leaving & even some of the choristers climbing down the stage the moment they saw him on the stage. Tears began to roll down his cheeks as he started a song & nobody, including the pastors joined him to sing. But about 10 minutes later, something happened... One of the known crippled that came for the crusade began to shout. Every attention went to that side; lo and behold, he had stood up from his wheelchair jumping all over the place. God had healed him. People were still surprised. Few seconds later, a known blind woman started shouting from the other side "I can see... I can see... I can see..." Yet, the young man on the pulpit had not opened the bible. It was only the songs he was singing with tears. Few minutes later, noise filled the whole place. People with Chronic diseases started shouting that they have been healed. The pastors there could not understand what was going on. "How can God use this small boy?" But More miracles were being recorded. The crowd that left started hearing the shout from the crusade ground & began to run back. Some thought the great man of God had finally come. But when they got there, they saw the young man on the stage, crying. The interpreter that came to interpret for him was crying. As he wanted to start preaching, the noise of more miracles could not let him preach. As he wanted to get close to tell the interpreter to let them climb down & start preaching to people, the power of God hit the interpreter & he fell under the power of God. He laid slain like a dead man. As the organiser of the crusade who is probably also reading this now wanted to climb the stage to take the microphone that fell down from the interpreter, he too fell under the power of God. The young man was just standing, & looking at the salvation of the Lord. The crowd had increased more than those that came to listen to the big man of God. People had rushed home to bring their people, that something was happening in the market square. Many pastors that had sick people started sending messages to their members to bring all the sick people in their churches. And without this boy laying hands on anyone, they were being healed. Some villagers who were chronic idol worshippers saw the mighty works of God and ran to the altar for repentance. He didn't preach from any verse of the scripture, but the power of God was present to heal & to deliver... As he was standing there, not knowing what next to say, with tears all over, some pastors began to run to him. Some holding his shoe, others dragging his shirt; crying: "Lord, we are sorry..." Some were crying: "We need this anointing...Please, give it to us." I was there friends... The crusade that was supposed to end by 8pm ended around 12am at midnight. Healings and incredible miracles were wrought. After that crusade, God restored that young man of God. He became the most sought for, every man of God wanted to host him. Onoh spoke against the background of the comment by the LP vice presidential candidate who stated on Arise TV interview that the Supreme Court did not declare Tinubu as winner of the February 25, 2023, presidential election. Dr Josef Enoh, the South-East former spokesperson of the President Bola Tinubu campaign council of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has stated that there will be consequences for the “unguarded comments” made by the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Yusuf Datti-Ahmed, against the Nigerian government and the Supreme Court. Onoh spoke against the background of the comment by the LP vice presidential candidate who stated on Arise TV interview that the Supreme Court did not declare Tinubu as winner of the February 25, 2023, presidential election. The APC chieftain cautioned that Datti-Ahmed and Peter Obi’s statements before and after the Supreme Court judgment were capable of bringing hatred against the current government, which would instigate members of the public to want to take over the government by unlawful means. "In my opinion, exercising freedom of expression of one’s opinion doesn’t amount to treason. But Baba-Ahmed’s freedom of expression ought to have been limited by law, being fully aware of the Presidential election tribunal and Supreme Court judgments, hence his current statement and that of Peter Obi can be at best defined as treasonable felony. "I want to sound as a warning to Baba-Ahmed Datti, Peter Obi and the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar and all other Nigerians with political interest exercising the habit of holding that the Constitution guarantees free speech and freedom of expression. "Irrespective of the fact that Section 39 of the Constitution guarantees the right to freedom of expression and the press, and ordinarily, this right covers all forms of communication, including that of Baba-Ahmed Datti as currently made, but the same Nigerian Constitution also allows for permissible limitations to that right. “However, just like every other right guaranteed under the fourth Chapter of the Constitution, Datti should not forget that the right to freedom of expression has certain limitations, including the law of defamation, hate speech, the law of sedition, cyber-bullying etc. "Section 45 of the Constitution, which allows for the derogation of the right to freedom of expression in the interest of defence, public safety, public order, public morality or public health. The laws criminalising sedition and treasonable utterances were made pursuant to Section 45 of the Constitution, as it relates to public safety, order and defence. "A final warning to Baba-Ahmed Datti and the rest who have failed to realise that there's a limit to political rascality. "Following same ideology, the Administration of President Bola Tinubu with the support of all Nigerians, we will collectively build a do- it-yourself nation, instead of a sit-back-and-wait-for-it Nigeria. "Be assured that any further unguarded and insightful comments from any quarter will no longer be tolerated, and will be met with equal consequences within the ambient of the law. If you wish to dare our resolve, you will definitely not have the luxury to go and verify.”

Peter Obi has described the Supreme Court judgment that affirmed Bola Tinubu’s election as Nigeria’s president as a breach of the citizens’ trust in the judiciary. The apex court had some weeks ago dismissed the appeals of Obi, who contested under the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 presidential election, and that of his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) counterpart Atiku Abubakar challenging Tinubu’s victory at the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC). But while reacting to the Supreme Court ruling, Obi accused the apex court of ignoring evidence which he said further dampens citizens’ trust in the judiciary. “Without equivocation, this judgment amounts to a total breach of the confidence the Nigerian people have in our judiciary. To that extent, it is a show of unreasonable force against the very Nigerian people from whom the power of the Constitution derives,” Obi said during a world press conference at the LP National Headquarters in Abuja on Monday. “This Supreme Court ruling may represent the state of the law in 2023 but not the present demand for substantive justice. The judgment mixed principles and precepts. Indeed, the rationale and premise of the Supreme Court judgment, have become clearer in the light of the deep revealing and troubling valedictory remarks by Hon. Justice Musa Dattijo Muhammad, (JSC) on Friday 27th October 2023.” This is Not the End’ Despite the Supreme Court verdict, Obi told his supporters that the quest for a new Nigeria has not ended. “Where the value and import of the recent Supreme Court ruling ends is where our commitment to a New Nigeria begins. Our mission and mandate remain unchanged. From the very onset, our mission has been more about enthroning a new Nigeria,” the LP presidential candidate added. “It is a new nation where things work, where the country is led from its present waste and consumption orientation to a production-driven economy. Our commitment is to a nation anchored on the principles of prudent management of resources to quickly pull millions out of multidimensional poverty, ensuring transparency and accountability in the equitable distribution of opportunities, resources, and privileges. “In the new Nigeria, we aim to address all unmet needs by showing compassion for all those left behind by the present system.”

He said this at a press conference in Abuja, on Monday, while noting that the verdict was however not the end of his journey but “in fact the beginning.” The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has said the Supreme Court judgment dashed the hopes of a majority of Nigerians by sacrificing justice for political expediency. He said this at a press conference in Abuja, on Monday, while noting that the verdict was however not the end of his journey but “in fact the beginning.” Obi said, “I want to assure them that this is not the end of our journey but in fact the beginning. Nigerians heard you, the world has taken note and we will not forget easily. We shall endure, persist until we reach our destination because new Nigeria is our destination. A destination is not an event.” The LP standard bearer, however, said as democrats, he, the vice presidential candidate, Dr. Datti Baba-Ahmed, had exhausted all legal means to challenge the 2023 general elections. Peter Obi noted that the party was now ready to take the message of a new Nigeria to the grassroots. Obi and his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) counterpart, Atiku Abubakar, had challenged the victory of Tinubu in the last election up to the apex court. Not satisfied with the verdict of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal (PEPT) earlier in September, Atiku and Obi approached the Supreme Court seeking the nullification of Tinubu’s election on the grounds of double nomination, alleged certificate forgery, non-transmission of results electronically, 25% votes in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), amongst others. On Thursday, October 26, the Supreme Court upheld President Bola Tinubu’s victory. The court held that the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate was the valid winner of the presidential election that held on February 25.

The Presidency on Monday threw a jibe at the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, saying that the businessman once benefited from judicial pronouncements when he reclaimed his mandate as governor of Anambra State in 2007 but he now castigates the same when the Supreme Court ruled in the favour of President Bola Tinubu on October 26, 2023. The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, made this known in a statement hours after Obi faulted the Supreme Court verdict which affirmed the electoral victory of Tinubu, the then candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the February 25, 2023 poll. “We are at a loss as to how the copy-cat Obi and his faction of Labour Party convinced themselves they won an election in which they came a distant third,” Onanuga said. “At the press conference where he tried, in vain, to gaslight Nigerians with false claims and innuendos, Mr. Obi contradicted himself. Here was a beneficiary of judicial pronouncements in the past now castigating the same court because its judgment did not go his way.” Onanuga said Obi and his party should know that the Supreme Court or any other court does not give judgment based on public opinion and mob sentiments. “Judicial pronouncements are based on evidence, precedents and the rule of law,” he said. The presidential aide said the ex-governor of Anambra should quit criticisms and congratulate Tinubu. “Having admitted that the Supreme Court ruling brought an end to litigation and any challenge to the bona-fide of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the validly elected leader of Nigeria and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Obi should have congratulated President Tinubu for his victory and pledge his support, in the spirit of statesmanship.” The Presidency also welcomed Obi and his party to play the role of the opposition and start preparing for another shot at the presidency in 2027. “We hope by then he would campaign on issues and not whip up religious and ethnic sentiments as he did in the last campaign.”

A statement made available on Tuesday morning by the Board’s spokesman, Fabian Benjamin, JAMB insisted that only Mmesoma paraded an “obsolete” notification slip out of all the candidates that sat the 2023 UTME. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board on Tuesday morning said that it has barred an Anambra State candidate, Mmesoma Ejikeme for three years over alleged forgery of UTME results. In a statement made available on Tuesday morning by the Board’s spokesman, Fabian Benjamin, JAMB insisted that only Mmesoma paraded an “obsolete” notification slip out of all the candidates that sat the 2023 UTME. “Consequently, the Board would like to reassure Nigerians that its system was neither tampered with nor compromised as the candidate simply falsified a copy of a result slip of a candidate named “Asimiyu Mariam Omobolanle,” who sat the UTME in 2021 and scored 138. “It is also instructive to note that the candidate, in her statement, has inadvertently revealed the rightful owner of the result she is parading when she pointed out that the QR code on the result slip showed the actual owner of the said result before she peddled a lie in an attempt to obfuscate the truth. “To witness the unassailable position of the Board regarding this obvious falsehood, the general public is, therefore, urged to endeavour to scan the QR code on the result slip to see its actual owner before it was mutilated. It is to be noted that the QR code encapsulates the UTME result of each candidate, hence, what is on the result sheet is nothing other than the interpretation of the information on this QR code. “Furthermore, the public is also to note that the Board stopped issuing Notification of Result slips after the 2021 UTME for the simple reason that candidates were falsifying them. Consequently, the Board has been issuing actual UTME RESULT Slips (not notification of results ) since 2022 complete with the photograph of each candidate. “Similarly, the public is also invited to ponder on the fact that out of all the candidates that sat the 2023 UTME, only Ms. Ejikeme Mmesoma parades the obsolete ‘Notification of Result. “In the meantime, the management of the Board, after considering the weighty infraction committed by Ms. Ejikeme Joy Mmesoma, and in line with its established procedures, has withdrawn her 2023 UTME result and also barred her from sitting the Board’s examination for the next three years.” SaharaReporters on Monday reported that Mmesoma spoke in a trending video posted on various twitter account and other social media platforms, saying she was traumatised by the JAMB media sponsorship against her, that she forged her UTME results. Reacting to the JAMB's forgery claims, Mmesoma vehemently denied the forgery claim, insisting that she printed the results from the JAMB Portal. She queried that if she forged the results that was printed from the JAMB Portal, did she also forge the JAMB text message to her that corroborated the results she later printed. Mmesoma stated in the trending video SaharaReporters seen on Monday evening, "My name is Ejikeme Mmesoma, I am the owner of this result (holding the print out of the disputed JAMB score). I went to JAMB Portal to print this result and this is what they gave me and this is the result here. These are my aggregate 362 and this is exactly how I printed it after downloaded from that site.” |
Founder of Omega Power Ministries, Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere had debunked claims by late Deborah Samuel’s family that he abandoned them. He said they are ingrates for falsely accusing him of subjecting them to suffering even after he had made life comfortable for them. It may be recalled that late Deborah’s parents said contrary to claims that they were offered a free apartment, that the reverse is the case as the landlord had informed to pay the next rent or prepare to exit the house. Deborah’s father Emmanuel Samuel said; “From time to time, the OPM leader used to call to check on us. He paid the rent. Right now, the rent for this apartment has expired. The landlord has told us to renew the rent or leave. “All the appliances and the equipment in this apartment belong to OPM, we don’t own it. The first time OPM brought us to Port Harcourt they brought food items to us. After that first time, we have been struggling on our own…” However, in a press conference on Saturday, the clergyman said all the allegations against him are false as he gave them a 14 flat-mini estate and made them landlord, so they could collect rent from tenants. Apostle Chibuzor also said that he gave the father a car to start a taxi business and opened a fully stocked shop for the mother Mrs. Samuel. |

The Presidential Petition Court, PEPC, sitting in Abuja, on Wednesday, admitted in evidence, a bundle of exhibits containing the total number of Permanent Voters Card, PVCs, that were collected in 32 states of the federation before the 2023 general elections. Equally admitted in evidence by the Justice Haruna Tsammani-led five-member panel, was a bundle of documents that contained the total number of registered voters in the states. The exhibits were brought before the court by the candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Mr. Peter Obi, who alleged that the presidential election that held on February 25, was rigged in favour of President Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC. According to Vanguard, though Obi’s legal team was led by Dr. Livy Uzoukwu, SAN, however, the exhibits, were tendered through another senior lawyer in the team, Mr. Peter Afuba, SAN. The petitioners told the court that the exhibits were duly certified by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. However, the electoral body, through its lawyer, Mr. Kemi Pinhero, SAN, said it was vehemently opposed to the admissibility of the exhibits in evidence. Likewise, President Tinubu and the APC, who are the 2nd and 3rd Respondents in the matter, equally challenged the admission of the exhibits in evidence. All the respondents said they would adduce reasons behind their objections, in their final written address. Despite the objections, the court admitted in evidence, documents on the total number of PVCs from the 32 states and marked them as exhibits PCN 1 to PCN 32. The court equally admitted in evidence, certified true copy of a certificate of compliance on exhibits the petitioners earlier tendered in respect of Edo state. Others electoral documents the court entered in evidence after they were tendered by the petitioners, were; certified copy of supplementary IReV reports for three Local Government Areas, LGAs, of Benue state, two LGAs of Cross River state, 12 LGAs of Lagos state, as well as one LGA in Gombe state. Meanwhile, earlier in the proceedings, the petitioners called three more witnesses that testified before the court. Dr. Chibuike Ugwoke, who appeared as the eight witness, PW-8, in the matter, told the court he is a a cyber security expert. The witness, who said he was subpoenaed to appear before the court to give evidence, tendered a document containing a press release the INEC issued prior to the general elections. Led in evidence by a member of Obi’s legal team, Mr. Patrick Ikweto, SAN, the witness, told the court that the press release dated November 11, 2022, which was signed by INEC’s National Commissioner, Mr. Festus Okoye, was titled; “Alleged plot to abandon transmission of polling unit results to IReV portal.” Ikweto, SAN, told the court that the witness had in paragraph 26 of his statement on oath, referred to sources/materials that were published or used by INEC from 2018 to 2023, with their specific Uniform Resource Identifiers, URIs, attached. He said the PW-8, who was described as an expert witness, equally tendered a report on what he termed as “meta data”. All the Respondents said they were opposed to the evidence of the witness and would give their reasons at a later stage of the case. Besides, counsel to all the Respondents told the he court that they were served with statement of the witness, which was about eight pages, shortly before the proceedings commenced on Wednesday. They, therefore, prayed the court to defer his cross-examination till Thursday to enable them to study his statement on oath which was admitted in evidence by the panel. After the court gave the witness the nod to vacate the box and return on Thursday, the petitioners called their ninth witness, Mr. Onoja Sunday. Sunday, who was led in evidence by Mr. Ikechukwu Ezechukwu, SAN, another member of Obi’s legal team, told the court that he is a staff of Women & Child Rescue Initiative, a Non-Governmental Organization. He tendered both his statement on oath and his office identity card, which were both admitted in evidence. While being cross examined by INEC’s lawyer, Mr. Abubakar Mahmoud, SAN, the witness told the court that from his observations, voting and counting went well on the day the presidential election held. Asked if his party won election in the polling unit where he observed, the witness, said; “I do not work for any party, neither do I have any candidate.” Answering further questions from INEC’s lawyer, the witness, said: “I did not work with BVAS in the polling unit and from my observation, the officials went away to the Ward collation center with the Form EC8A (polling unit result) that was signed by both the INEC officials and party agents.” While also being cross-examined by a lawyer in President Tinubu’s legal team, Mr. Emmanuel Ukala, SAN, the witness, admitted that the subpoena upon which he appeared before the court, was not addressed to his organization, but to him personally, using his village address. He told the court that after votes from the polling units was counted, INEC officials failed to upload the results to the IReV portal as required by the law. On its part, the APC, through its lead counsel, Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, said it had no question for the witness. Similarly, in his own testimony, the 10th witness, Mr. Kefas Iya, who identified himself as a civil servant, said he was subpoenaed to appear to give evidence before the court. After a copy of the subpoena was tendered without objection from all the Respondents, the witness, told the court that he served as an ad-hoc staff of INEC. Following an agreement by all the parties, the court adjourned the case till Thursday. Both Obi and Atiku are expected to close their cases on Friday, after which the Respondents will open their defence.

The event which was hosted by popular Nigerian preacher, Pastor Jerry Eze who is the lead pastor of Streams of Joy International Church took place on Saturday and Sunday. A statement sent to DAILY INDEPENDENT by the organizers indicated that NSPPD “Prayers has continued to grow in popularity and in the number of ardent followers and subscribers online and offline.” It would be recalled that, in July 2022, NSPPD prayers emerged as the number one online prayer platform and number one ‘Daily Most Super Chatted Gospel Channel’ in the world with a record 313,768,909 or 889,627 chats per day, according to data compiled by Playboard. According to the statement, the two-day London event saw attendees from various walks of life, and a string of testimonies of miracles by participants at the event. “A woman had testified of being healed of 20-year arthritis, while another who had been in a wheelchair for the past three years testified of being able to walk unaided. Another participant testified of being healed of a 13-year mobility impairment and was seen walking without her crutches. Yet another lady testified of a mass in her stomach disappearing instantly during the prayers. “A man testified of a dumb tongue loosened, another testified to being healed of multiple sclerosis, while another woman testified of being healed of 40-years hearing impairment. The NSPPD prayers which began just over three years ago, streams at 7 am every day on Facebook, Youtube, Instagram and other social media platforms. Commenting on the huge turnout at the conference and the testimonials, Eze ascribed it to the “overwhelming power of God at work,” noting that he was humbled by the success of the conference.”

The Labour Party (LP) and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on Monday alleged that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) refused to provide the documents they asked for. Obi and the LP are petitioners in the petition marked CA/PEPC/03/2023 challenging the election of President Bola Tinubu. Respondents are the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, and the All Progressives Congress (APC). The LP and Obi told the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC) that due to INEC’s failure to provide the documents demanded they would be unable to go on with their case. Counsel to LP, Jubrin Okutepa, told the court that all the documents his client asked for from INEC were not provided. “We are bringing this to your notice for your intervention because we have done everything humanly possible. “This afternoon, INEC released a few IreV reports from Lagos and Gombe. “These documents were certified since May 29. We have severally written letters detailing the documents we needed in the proof of our petition. “We have paid for most of these documents,” he said Okutepa also informed the court that it appears that INEC was deliberately delaying proceedings. Council for INEC, Abubakar Mahmoud told the court that he received a letter dated May 15 from the petitioners and has not received any other letter after that. “All the documents that the subpoenaed witnesses are tendering were provided by INEC. We never denied the petitioners any document. I am a senior counsel and know the importance of this matter. They should stop this lamentation,” he said. Counsel to Tinubu and Shettima, Wole Olanipakun, also promised to ensure that a meeting between senior counsels holds to address the issues raised. The court urged them to come to a better understanding so that the proceeding could go on smoothly.

The family of late Deborah Samuel, who was lynched to death over alleged blasphemy at the Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto, have cried out over the hardship they have been facing since relocating to Port Harcourt. It will be recalled that after Deborah’s tragic passing in May 2022, her parents vowed not to send their other children to school anymore. This stirred compassion in the heart of OPM’s General Overseer, Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere, and he took to Facebook to announce his intention to help them. “I just watched a video clip where the parents of Deborah Samuel said they will not be sending their children to school again. GOD FORBID,” Chinyere wrote on Facebook on May 16, 2022. He then facilitated their relocation to Port Harcourt, Rivers State, from Niger State. He also donated a mini estate, a car, and a restaurant to her parents to ensure their financial security and stability in their new state of residence. The car was specifically intended for Deborah’s father, Garba Emmanuel, to start a ride-hailing business to fend for his family. Well, in a new update gotten one year after the highly praised act of philanthropy, Deborah’s family have said that life has not been rosy since moving to Port Harcourt. They stated this in an exclusive interview with Foundation For Investigative Journalism (FIJ) where they shared their struggles and challenges. Garba said, “People think that we are living well but we are not. OPM took us from where we were in Niger State to Port Harcourt City last year. The OPM pastor gave us a mini estate with about 14 self-contained apartments. After that, OPM rented this bedroom flat for us,” Emmanuel told FIJ on Friday. “He said we should be staying here because we are a family and those self-contained apartments cannot be enough for the family. He furnished the apartment with the appliances. “The first time we got here, OPM got me a car. It was a Toyota Corolla but it wasn’t new. It was a fairly used vehicle and the car has developed some faults. I was using it as a taxi before but it has some challenges and I have parked it. “The first time OPM brought us to Port Harcourt they brought food items to us. After that first time, we have been struggling on our own. Right from the day OPM gave me this car, the car has been developing faults. On the first day I tried to take my children to school the car broke down on its way back. We towed the car back. “I even went to the OPM pastor to speak with him in person. I let him know that the car has been developing a fault all this while. He called the person who bought the car on behalf of OPM and that person said that I did not know how to drive the vehicle properly. I have been a driver before now; this is not the first vehicle I’ve driven. “The engine of the car is bad and I don’t have the money to fix it. I am looking for money to feed myself and my family. All the money people gave me for my upkeep, I used it on this car. Whenever I complained, the PA to the OPM pastor told me to stop complaining about the car but to fix it myself.” Recall that in May 2022, Pastor Chinyere also said that Deborah’s family will be staying in one of OPM’s free estates where they will never have to pay rent ‘forever’. Speaking on this, Deborah’s father said the clergyman only rented an apartment for them and paid for a year’s rent. “From time to time, the OPM leader used to call to check on us. He paid the rent. Right now, the rent for this apartment has expired. The landlord has told us to renew the rent or leave. All the appliances and the equipment in this apartment belong to OPM, we don’t own it,” he said. On the scholarship offered to their other children, Mr Garba said, “OPM gave Deborah’s siblings a scholarship each. They are schooling here in the church’s free school. However, the scholarships were not all what we thought they were. They promised to send one of my boys to school abroad. We were told it was going to be a European country. I was surprised when my son turned the offer down because they sent him to Cotonou instead.” On the tragic demise of his daughter and how justice has not been served one year after her death, Mr Garba said, “Since the death of my daughter, I have not recovered. I have not been feeling okay. It is as if there is no justice on the matter. I am just living without any other way to react. As a Christian, I leave it all to God. The way she took her Christian life, we were very proud of her. They were eight in her classroom who were Christians and they all renounced their faith except Deborah. Only Deborah stood firm. They killed her on her faith. It is a lot of hurt to deal with.”
