I felt the old Camry are quite older, belong to the oldsch style and less sophisticated. The corollla is newer hence the technology is more advanced, therefore their speed won't be dependent on just hp alone... remember the Corolla is way more lighter than the Camry, thereby requiring lesser power to propel it.

The car is so nice I must admit.
I had to pour a lil fund on it : changed the shocks, brake pads, all belts. Drain off and replacedd all all the fluids (Brake, ATF, Engine oil)
I haven't driven much of other ppl cars but my friend who has a more recent muscle always admire whenever I allow him drive. At first, I thought it was mockery. Admittedly, I always admire corollas due to lots of many good sayings from users of it.
Without denial, this one sure gave me that reliability.

My own story will make people wonder why Nigeria mechanics still exist.
Out of all the 1000 and 1 problems my car has been giving me since I've been using this guy, he did the one that nearly took my life 2 weeks ago.

I wanted to travel to Lagos so I took my car to him for inspection before embarking on the journey. It's my way of life. I always want to be able to trust my car 100% percent when I'm embarking on a trip so I always check everything before any trip be it short or long.
This particular day, I told him to check the car cuz I'm feeling some kind of vibration on the suspensions. Take out the tires and check the whole suspension. That was my word.
I left his place and went to work in my wife's car then came back in thr evening to pick up the car. He said he has done everything, I can go to Lagos in peace. Don't worry bros.
Okay, thanks. I saw that the car was dirty so I said I should take it to a car wash down the road.
To my shock and surprise... While I was speeding at 60km/hr, my right side front wheel came off! I nearly lost control! The wheel pulled and damaged my fender!
WTF! This is an ACURA 2012! I have been driving this car for a year now, nothing like this has ever happened to me! I came out of the car and inspected. Lo and behold, 3 nuts from the suspension is right there on the ground. The came off. The ball joint nut, the upper arm nut and another nut I don't even know where it came from.
What the fvck! I called him and he said he's on his way, I nearly slapped him when he got there. Oga said he forgot to tighten the nuts!
That day I vowed never to see him again. Imagine if this happened on my way to Lagos and I'm driving 120km!

Last Las, I couldn't go to Lagos the next day cuz my fender looked terrible and I was so worried that something else will happen!

People that drove past me on the road that day before he got there said so many things! Some were like how can this happen to this latest car! Lol
Some were like chai, Honda and wahala, some even said I'm careless cuz it only happens to careless people. That was the day I actually understand that people don't care to know how it happened, they just want to judge immediately.

Now I have to drive 40 minutes to a standard auto shop went I want to check my car. I told them to review everything he has done. Shit, you need to see so many wrong doings! He once told me to change my timing belt and tensioner cuz my car hesitates a little sometimes so I ordered the timing belt and Adjuster but on getting to this new guys, I discovered that there was a little hole in my emission pipe and that was the cause. Now I have an unused timing belt and Adjuster at home.

I thought timing belts are for older vehicle like 90's and early 20s

I planned using it for only a few months but it just kept on going.
Though it's kinda old in terms of being in vogue but it's super neat and beautiful with glowing paints .it's more of a grandpa ride.

Anyways, I got a Naija used car, it was my first, a Camry...yr 2000 I think. I used it for about 2 yrs
..it started everytime.
I became so attached to it. Funny enough, I was in another state when they brought it, I saw it for the first time when they brought it to me as I have only been shown picz prior. I paid ahead before even seeing it physically.
It was a good investment.
super reliable and dependable.

This is absolutely incorrect. 40L vs 12L for same journey? Even a w12 engine will not get that difference for same journey unless the fuel is leaking from tank to ground.

If you are saying for 2 months or 3 just try to be very much honest with whoever you're staying with and try to move out 3 days to 4 days beyforethe exact date.

We are all in street working hard to be things right i am very sure your friends would help if you know as being very straightforward.

I have accommodated a stranger for 7 months, accommodated my friend and course mate then for almost two years and so many others, but trust me it caused some problems thereafter and i was forced throw him out.

Guy this you question hard oo , and come put "finally". . Well. It's good to compare cars of the same age. The Camry of those age performs better than the Corolla of that age in terms of Power, Stability on high speed, Air conditioning, Interior and spacing.

Camry 1999 can also compete with Corolla of that range except the for the shocks. The AC is better than Corolla of that age, the handling is also good. The V6 and XLE of Camry 1999/2000 beat the Corolla of that age in almost everything. What I did when I acquired Camry 1999 was to replace all the Shocks with that of LEXUS. The experience of the car after that change was second to none.

Camry 1999/2000 is a good car but if you can take care of this 3 major issue the more the enjoyment:
1. The shocks and suspensions - Replace with, Avalon, or better still LEXUS
2. Timing Belt - Get Original Belt and also replace the pulley.

Note: The v6 of Camry 1999/2000 does not have timing belt issue - It uses timing chain.

To me, camry 2001 is more stable than a 2004 corolla on a highway....

And camry has more engine power than a corolla.

So I think this should also suffix for a 1999, because I grade the pencil light and big light as same, except otherwise.

In the long run of the usage of the car, you'll still spend more in other areas of that 1.8L car than someone who has pencil light. Corolla engine is about 370k while Camry 2.2 is about 180K. Parts of Corolla of that year is higher than Camry of that year. Consult your financial expert for detailed analysis. You can gain ALL in any brand of car

The diff is much.
52 (2.2L engine/Camry) -40l (1.8L corolla) = 12Litre diff....
That's a lot in my opinion for the same journey

I can talk of Camry 2001 V6 engine that i drove for same journey October 17th, 2021 from Ondo Town to Portharcourt. I wanted to inquired its fuel consumption at Sapele road in Benin Edo State when I top-up the fuel back with 17ltrs to fill-up on Camry 2001 V6 engine.

In total, how many litres did the journey take?

Pls go for Toyota Corolla 2004. I travelled with from Ondo Town to Portharcourt over 278 miles with 40ltrs fuel.

Who knows the equivalent of fuel the Camry 1999 will take for same distance ..?

You sound like a meticulous owner that would go out of your way to order OEM parts or top grade aftermarket parts for repairs. 90% of Nigerians (many oof whom rely on the fictional Kazeem mechanic) would be satisfied with replacing with low quality China made aftermarkets, or worse "tokunbo". All we know is to start the car engine. The other day a Range Rover drove past me with an obviously faulty fan belt. He was accelerating fast so the noise can quickly "go". In my head I was calculating his future bill when the engine fails when he can just replace the failed fan belt which is cheaper to fix
