In the End…The Beginning By Kayode Odusanya © 2020 Kayode Odusanya Chapter One The bridge had been closed down for maintenance but work hadn’t begun yet. It was a chilly night, and he did the top button of his polo top as he walked through the deserted bridge. He hadn’t had a decent meal in days and his lanky body swayed here and there. The street lights were turned off on the bridge and it was pitch black creepy. He was more scared of the place than what he was about to do. In a few minutes, he was going to end his miserable life and the thought of it made him happier than he had been in years. The bridge was so quiet he could hear his shoes click clack on the concrete with every step he took. To his right was the University of Lagos, with lit up buildings. He went down memory lane. 20 years ago when he used to come to the lagoon front to relax after reading for hours, he never thought he would still be a failure at 40. Most of his friends from back then were married with kids already in secondary school. The last of his friends cut him off last week. Over the years, he had become a pest to them, always getting into one debt or the other and needing them to help him out. They were always willing to help at first, but with time, they usually would get tired and stop picking his calls. He didn’t blame them. They had tried their best. He stopped walking now and leaned on the cold bridge railing. This is far enough. He thought to himself. If he jumped from here he was sure the depth of the water would be enough to drown him. The last thing he wanted to do was to mess up his own suicide. He couldn’t see the water below, but he could feel it. It felt like something was calling him from the abyss below. His mind traveled back in time to thirty years ago. He saw his ten year old self by the edge of the swimming pool at Ikoyi Hotel, looking at the other kids his age swimming, wishing he could do the same. That was his third time there, and he still had not learnt to swim. He was angry with himself, but tonight, he was happy; he was happy he never learnt to swim. He was having mixed feelings. He was happy everything was about to end, but at the same time, he was wondering how life would have been if his business ventures had worked out. A tear rolled down his cheek. He wiped it off and sniffed. It was time. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. With both hands on the railing, he plunged himself over the railing and let go. As he started the descent into the Lagos lagoon, his survival instinct kicked in and he regretted jumping. I could have found a way to pay back that two million naira debt. I could have moved to another country to start all over. I still had a chance to become rich. He had all these thoughts within seconds. But just before he hit the ice cold water, he was at peace with his decision to jump. He opened his eyes and exhaled. Splash! |
Good day people. This is going to be a short novelette with short chapters. It will have 8-10 short chapters, and I should be done posting by the end of the month.

Amotolongbo:Obasonjo only said what he said because he and the man were beefing before the man died. The speed at which he spoke about the death makes it clear he is happy the man is dead. The man wasn't a saint, but OBJ isn't a saint either. |
Walexz02:Hmm...na wa o. |
jidestroud:That's great. |
jidestroud:That's great. I was just asking cos of the epileptic power supply in the country. |
jidestroud:True. |
jidestroud:Nice. Are the light bulbs your only form of heat source? |
jidestroud:I'm telling you. I had not done this business in a while (for like 6 months), and went to the market yesterday to be shocked by the ourageous prices. 4 weeks Noilers I used to buy for 300-350 now sell for 650 naira. If you see how fast I walked away from the first person that told me that, only to be told the same price everywhere else. And I had already budgeted buying the 4 weeks Noilers for at least 350 naira. I also bought bag of starter for 4,100 instead the normal 3,600 I used to buy it at my area in Ibadan. What the hell is happening. |
Fulaniherdmens:Just pray to God you never find yourself in a situation like his...where the microfinance keep calling every day, threating you with all sorts, plus interest keep piling up on the loan every day, with no means to pay back. Just pray you never find yourself in such nightmare. |
NewDelhi:23 and only 8 eggs a day? That's not cool. Even though female Noilers don't lay as good as the normal Issa brown or black layer, they never did this before when I was using them. At least from the 25 I had at the time, I was getting 20-21 eggs daily. Maybe you didn't feed them well from the beginning. Did you feed them starter for 8 weeks straight from day old? Anyway, that's in the past now. For business, it is always advsable to go for Issa brown. |
brain54:Oops! Sorry |

Dottore:And how do you know she doesn't have a companion? Because she isn't official married doesn't mean she doesn't have a man |
decatalyst:Exactly! I was thinking the same thing. The body would have naturally made him pee on himself. |
Nice stories ...keep them coming guys. |
CallMeGrace:Interesting. I would love to hear the full gist |
ThatFairGuy:Lol |
festacman:Yeah, and the funny thing is that they dated back in the day. I mean, Cynthia Morgan and Burna Bit dated back then. |
Yankiss:Exactly. I have some friends that post updates of Corona virus deaths and infections on their status every morning. I feel like blocking them. Lol. How can I be waking up to bad news every morning. |
