ARSENE WENGER DELIVERS VERDICT on VAR after Mohamed Salah's goal for LIVERPOOL against MAN CITY

Liverpool's second goal against City was sent for a VAR check and the former Arsenal manager has had his say

Arsene Wenger says he backs VAR, but there must be changes to how the technology is used after Liverpool's clash against Manchester City.

Jurgen Klopp's side beat Manchester City 3-1 at Anfield to move nine points clear at the top of the Premier League table, with goals from Fabinho, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane enough to seal three points.

But Salah's goal in the first half sparked controversy after being sent for a VAR check for offside.

The Reds forward nodded past Claudio Bravo after getting on the end of a cross from Andrew Robertson.

But a replay appeared to show that the Egpytian may have been marginally offside as the ball was played into the box.

VAR checked Salah's goal against City at the Stockley Park HQ, and the PGMOL released a brief statement that said: "VAR checked for possible offside, and confirmed that the Salah goal was correct."

Speaking as a pundit for beIN Sports, former Arsenal head coach Wenger says he supports the concept of VAR but feels the technology is the issue.

"It [VAR] is working but it is not working on all occasions. It's better than before, you have more right decisions especially on offsides for example.

"You have to make a rule, the only uncertainty about offside is the timing when you stop [to check]. It has to be super accurate, it has to be right.

"If you have a player, a quick player, and he makes approximately nine centimetres in 0.08 seconds that's a big distance.

That's why the moment when you block the image it's absolutely vital especially if you have 25 pictures per second.

"I'm delivering a message, at the moment it's [VAR] manual with the help of what they call the key eyes, but I think it has to be completely automatic."

And they said VAR will make things better
The EPL is responsible for the mess though because the other top 4 European leagues-LA LIGA, SERIA A, BUNDESLIGA and LEAGUE 1 allows the center referees to have a personal viewing from the pitch side monitor before making any final decisions except the EPL.

But a meeting of stakeholders has been scheduled for Thursday 14/11/2019 for a possible reversal of the the restriction in the EPL

Premier League referees are to be encouraged to make more use of pitchside VAR monitors, referees' chief Mike Riley is expected to tell clubs later this week.

All 20 top-flight clubs will be represented at a meeting with Riley in central London on Thursday.

Top of the agenda will be the ongoing controversies around VAR, which continued on Saturday when Sheffield United had a goal ruled out at Tottenham because of a marginal offside decision.

Riley will be quizzed about various VAR issues, including inconsistencies in decision-making and the time it takes for rulings to be made, which in some instances have been several minutes after goals are scored.

It is acknowledged that solutions are not straightforward. However, it is anticipated Riley will tell clubs the on-field referee will make more use of monitors.

It was envisaged that would happen from the point VAR came into use in the Premier League but Riley advised referees not to use them in order to prevent additional delays.

It is now felt the on-field referee is best placed to make marginal calls because they are more aware of the flow of the game and the atmosphere at the time.

Sir, I concur with the 1st 2 paragraphs.

However I am persuaded differently when you compare individual maltreatment of child domestic helps, which often starts as harsh punishment for misdemeanors..... With a widespread societal slant to enslave adults from other ethnicities keep them in inhumane conditions, serve them as meat to prized exotic animals in some alleged cases...

Hmm mmm.

Let's see the wood from the trees...

Poor treatment or child abuse by individuals which is often heavily criticised by the surrounding society...... is very very different from a systemic slavery stemmed in deep racist undertones which is enabled by an acceptable societal norm of intensive subjugation of human rights and plain murder in several cases.

.
Very well presented and I never saw where you pragmatically support anything Slavery or introvertly related to slavery.

Likewise, I never said slavery as obtainable anywhere in the world irrespective of it form and Domestic violence or abuse against House helps are the same

But I was just pointing out the ills in the soceity as they are related.

Why do you have to ask if I am a Muslim?

Does the truth depend on if I am a muslim or not?

You are a brainwashed and dishonest person if you think that Islam is against slavery. There is no dispute among scholars that the prophet bought and sold slaves.
Of course truth doesn't depend on you being a Muslim or otherwise

But

Do you know why I had to ask if you are a Muslim or not?

The reason is simply the manner of approach you just displayed where you have to refer to me as a brainwashed and dishonest person insinuating that there wasn't dispute amongst scholars about buying and selling of slaves without posting any reference from anywhere whatsover.

Post references to prove there was no dispute and we see if the Hadiths are sound or not.

At least the thread clearly gives it source and everyone can even access it

like I said, Hadiths are lifestyle stories by people that lived mostly after him mostly of which are even hearsay account and not to be believed and that is why they are classified and categorized as sound or not (Meaning to be practiced or not as the case may be)

Slavery is allowed in islam. If you dont believe me, check your hadith and confirm if the prophet had slaves

In fact, Arab muslims took slaves from Nigeria (Kanem-borno) even before Europeans came.
Are you a Muslim?

If No, Then no problem with your view for you would only align yourself to the peripheral

If Yes, Then do you know the meaning of Hadith as the records of the lifestyle of the prophet?

And that Hadiths are even classified as Authentic and otherwise?

meaning some records are disputed and not to be recognized but rejected and the report in them shouldn't be practiced despite being in circulation?

Besides, The slavery related mentioning deals with the people captured during wars who are still not ready to accept Islam?

Remember that many wars were forth in Islam and not slavery of buying and selling of humans as was obtainable during the African colonization and the present days.

Watch your words for it's not about the religion though but the tribe itself.

Prophet Muhammad himself was a victim of rejection by his own people to the extent that he had to run into exile to another city away from his home town.

It's about moral decadence and racism.

Are we not also witnessing another version of racism in the name of tribalism and nepotism in Africa?

Does illtreatment of houseboys and girls by madams and ogas not exist here too?

Nobody is supporting anything and everything Bad and Evil but they are not exclusive to ISLAM.

Besides, No religion subscribe to Evil but of the individuality.

At this time, the Nigerian league was doing well, we could source for talents in-house.

It is not the same scenario today, the league has gone to the dogs, you can't find talents in the leagues. Even more, the whole workd seems to have left Nigeria in 1994. We have done nothing to build on that success, rather, the local coaches glorify mediocrity and sacrifice true talent for a few extra kobos.

It is not because we do not have local talent that are just as good, or even better than the foreign borns, but the rotten corruption stiinking up everywhere, means, we can only look outside to help ourselves.
Quite True indeed.

Besides, Some players really need the National Team pedestal to leverage them higher in their footballing career and that usually boost their country of origin's pedigree.

Ultimately, NIGERIA would be better for it as the scout's attention could further be shifted to NIGERIA the more thereby helping us discover more talents into the pool available already.

Sack Emery or leave him to keep dragging the club further down, I don't care.
My interest this morning is in the use of VAR in the premier league and how it will kill off football with the way it's going now if nothing is done to check it. They told us VAR was introduced to rectify "clear and obvious errors" so that means if the ref has made a mistake in his judgement they can quickly see it and rectify. A clear and obvious error shouldn't take more than 5 seconds of replay to notice it and rectify, like Aubameyang's goal against Man U that was initially wrongly ruled offside but replays showed he was clearly onside. But in the case where they're always stopping the match and taking 5 minutes to check every decision, that is no longer clear and obvious and when that happens they should stick with the referee's original decision and move on. Or better still the referee should view the pitchside monitor, make his decision and continue. All these shouldn't take minutes. That Sheffield goal against Tottenham yesterday that was cancelled because one overzealous VAR guy was using 10 minutes to measure if the player's forefinger was offside, is the height of madness from the so called VAR.
Yes the VAR issue in the EPL is to be reviewed on November the 14th as stake holders meetings has been scheduled for same.

Initially, it's only in EPL that referees are bared from observing the pitch side monitor but that would soon change after the meeting as the center referees still have the final say in football matches and not the VAR officials.
