By Rosemary Nwisi, Port Harcourt Senator Magnus Abe has urged members of All progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State loyal to him to boycott the ward congress slated for Saturday July 31, 2021. At a stakeholders meeting in Port Harcourt, the Rivers state capital, on Friday, Abe, who represented Rivers South East, told to his supporters to stay clear of all the congress venues in the interest of peace and tranquility. Rivers APC has been entangled in years of internal crisis with Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi and Abe leading the two camps. The issue led to non-participation of the party in 2019 general elections. Addressing key leadership of his faction from the 23 Local Government Areas ahead of the congress, Abe said all efforts to restore peace within the party have failed. According to him: “Don’t take laws into your hands, I know that people have been provoked beyond reason, but please I want to publicly appeal to all members of this party, do not take the laws into your hands. “Since you were not given forms to allow you to take part in the congress, leave it…, we will follow the party process, and we will formally complain to the national that this is what is happening. “The registration and revalidation process which the national announced and promised that will take place in the state is still being awaited, and we are still believing and are sure that justice will be done in the party in the state. “Do not panic, fright or fight, and more importantly, I promise you that when we succeed, tomorrow will be better than today. “Don’t be angry about anything that has happened in the party, there is no doubt that a lot has happened, but we must look for peace in the party, let us remain committed to the process of peace. “I want to appeal to everybody once again, tomorrow (today), don’t go and waste your time, don’t go and fight them, or worry yourself, we will complain to the national…we will look for political solution for the problems that we face.”

Ahead of today’s commencement of its Wards, Local Governments and States Congresses, the ruling All Progressives Congress “APC) has threatened to dish out maximum punishment on any of its members who conduct parallel exercises or open parallel party secretariats. Some aggrieved party chieftains in Rivers Kwara, Osun, Delta, Imo states and many others have threatened to conduct a parallel exercise. The party hierarchy, however gave warning in a notice issued Friday in Abuja to all members and signed by the National Secretary of its Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee CECPC, Sen. John James Akpanudoedehe. He also reminded party members of the December 8, 2020 resolution of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party which directed all aggrieved members to withdraw cases from the courts and warned others not to institute litigations against the party. “It is important that the attention of all party faithful be called to the NEC resolution of 8th December, 2020, which subsists and extends to the conduct of party members during the congresses. “For purposes of clarity, may I re-state the relevant point in the resolution to wit: “All pending litigations instituted by members against the party should be withdrawn forthwith, and going forward, no member should institute matters against the party, without exhausting the internal mechanism for conflict resolution, as enshrined in the party’s constitution’. “Consequent upon the above, party members should please note that: All activities that may be carried out by persons to put the party and its officers in bad light, before, during and after the congresses should be jettisoned”, he stated. The party added that “all activities or processes leading up to the congresses and thereafter which do not have the approval of the CECPC are exercises in futility. This is to say that: any purported; parallel congress, parallel party organ and or parallel party office, is to say the least a nullity.” The APC leadership vowed to offenders in accordance with its constitutional provisions. “These divisive activities will not be tolerated. “For the avoidance of doubt, the party shall deploy the full weight of the law as stipulated in section 21(D) of our party’s Constitution on any one who perpetrates such unlawful Act(s) and also on their sponsors. “All persons who are affected by Article 31 of our Constitution should apply for waivers as stipulated under sub. Section 3 of the said Article 31, this is also clearly spelt out in the ‘Special provisions’ of our guidelines”, the party added.

Senator Abe accused of gearing for another round of legal battle against APC Okafor Ofiebor/Port Harcourt The Rivers chapter of All Progressives Congress, APC has warned members against going through the route that denied the party full participation in previous elections in the state. The party said it is time for all members who believe in the sustainable progress of the party to focus intense attention on the task ahead. Spokesman, Rivers APC who stated this in reaction to the official release of the timetable for the conduct of congresses by the National Secretariat stated that the stage is now set for all who are deserving to lead the party to test their popularity in the field. APC warned: “The APC shall resist the temptation to be drawn into a conflagration which does very little, to sustain its will to lay the foundation for the establishment of democratic structures through sustainable democratic processes that are known to law. “We wish to state categorically that attempts by some persons who have taken to the airwaves and newspapers to create a semblance of conflict within the party is intended to divert attention from the effort of the APC to organise peaceful congresses across the State. “Accordingly, we urge all members of our great party who are in the habit of promoting verbal conflicts and others who may be drawn into the fray by such unwholesome circumstances to sheath their swords. “To win the soul of the party, members must focus on the task ahead through effective mobilization. Our leaders and their followers are obligated at this time to focus intensely on providing leadership. “Elections into party offices are not won on the airwaves and pages of newspapers. They are won in the field where enthusiastic members of our great party are waiting to exercise their franchise. “For the avoidance of doubt, the APC in Rivers State, working in concert with the National Secretariat, shall provide a level playing field for all who wish to participate in the forthcoming party congresses. “No valid member of the All Progressives Congress who meets the requirements set out by the National Secretariat for those who want to contest the forthcoming congresses should entertain any fear of exclusion from the process. “Those who are nursing ambitions are free to go about the business of canvassing for votes among members of our great party.” Meanwhile, an APC Chieftain, Chizi Enyi, has accused Senator Magnus Abe of planning to take the party to court over claim that his supporters were beaten up in Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni, Local Government Area during an APC meeting. Mr. Enyi, in a statement, said Senator Abe wants to stop the APC in the state from conducting its congresses to repeat a situation in which the party was barred from fielding candidates in the 2019 general elections. He wondered why the former South East Senator who he said is yet to attend any party meeting will turn around to show concern for the party. At the time of filing this report, Abe had not reacted to the allegation that he wants to legal battle against the party over alleged attack on his supporters at Omoku, headquarters of Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area of the Rivers State.

Former representative of Rivers South-East Senatorial District at the National Assembly, Magnus Ngei Abe has appealed to members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Rivers State to denounce violence and resists the temptation of being provoked to attack anyone. The All Progressives Congress, APC said this in a statement he released on alleged attack on his supporters in Ogba Egbema Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA) of Rivers State. He alleged that his supporters who gathered peacefully for sensitisation programme on registration and revalidation exercise of APC were brutally attacked attacked by other members of the APC loyal to the Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. Abe, in a statement he personally signed titled: “RIVERS APC, NO PLACE FOR VIOLENCE: ITS TIME TO MOVE FORWARD” insisted that a political disagreement does not amount to a land dispute, neither a communal riot in which there is no meeting point. Therefore, he called on all members of the party in Rivers State to give peace a chance. The Senator said: “I received with shock and sadness the news of the unwarranted and senseless attack on law-abiding citizens and members of the All Progressives Congress in Ogba Egbema Ndoni Local Government Area (ONELGA) of Rivers State. “Party members who had gathered peacefully in response to the directive of the Caretaker and Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee of the party to members and intending members in Rivers, Cross River, Kano, Imo and Kwara States who were unable to take part in the last registration and revalidation exercise could now do so, members met to sensitize themselves and prepare for the exercise, only to be brutally attacked by other members of the APC loyal to the Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi. “Anyone who has been following Rivers politics will remember that ONELGA was one of the flashpoint of political violence in Rivers State where hundreds of our party supporters and their families were summarily executed just for being members of the APC. ONELGA should therefore ordinarily be the last place on earth in which one would expect members of the APC to attack and attempt to kill one another for any reason whatsoever. “It is therefore doubly painful that once more the lives of APC members in ONELGA are again on the firing line of Rivers politics. Basic human dignity, respect for the rights of others and the basic acknowledgment of the sanctity of human life is being assaulted in the name of political supremacy. “I condemn this primitive recourse to violence with it every breath of my being and I urge every Rivers man and woman and indeed all right-thinking citizens of our country to raise their voices and be heard,” it added. The statement further stated that any well-meaning member of the APC in Rivers State who is focused on how the party can dislodge the opposition in the State and reclaim the State Government to improve not just the fortunes of our members but maximize opportunities for all Rivers men and women should have been overwhelmed with joy to see Rivers people troop out to mobilize themselves in active preparation to register and revalidate their membership of the APC. “It is surprising that while we never mobilized to attack and maim those who killed our party members we can mobilize and arm youths to kill those who want to revalidate their membership of our party and those who want to join our party. “It is clear that destroying Senator Abe and his supporters has become more important to some in the Rivers APC leadership than repositioning our party and preparing the party for victory. “Let me remind us all that the registration and revalidation exercise is not a contest for any individual rather it is a clarion call to all of us to expand the party and improve it. We cannot do that by killing those who are interested in being part of our party. Politics is a game of numbers and every single Rivers man and woman is important if we genuinely desire victory. “Let me once again appeal to the law enforcement agents in the State to protect all law-abiding Rivers men and women and bring the perpetrators and sponsors of political violence and thuggery to book. The last time it was Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area and Asari Toru, etc. While our own children are safe in the comfort of expensive private universities in foreign countries the children of those we lead are encouraged to attack and kill one another. “So far it is to the glory of God that not one member of our party has been killed by another member of this party, if we do not discourage violence we may end up spilling human blood and then our story could change for the worse. “Once again, I appeal to all members of our great party in Rivers State to denounce violence. Do not be provoked to attack anyone, particularly your own brothers and sisters in the same party to please any individual. What we have in the party is a political disagreement, it is not a land dispute or a communal riot in which there is no meeting point. “Members should remain calm and encourage all those who have not revalidated their membership or want to join the winning train of the APC to do so. “I plead with all members and leaders of our great party to give peace a chance. A united, organized and galvanized APC will make greater impact in Rivers politics than a violent, hateful mob. We should all join hands to encourage Rivers people to join our party so that together we can be stronger. Again, I urge our law enforcement officers not to give the impression that certain persons are above the law. All those behind the Omoku attack must be apprehended and brought to book. If we continue to fail in this responsibility we encourage others to follow a similar path. The end result will be anarchy and a breakdown of law order. That is not the legacy of the APC,” the statement added.

Former Deputy Speaker of House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Chibudom Nwuche has resigned from All Progressive Congress. Honourable Chibudum Nwuche was the former deputy speaker of the Federal House of Representatives who was also a staunch member of the All Progressive Congress in Rivers State. Tony okocha want another ikwere man to rule rivers?? He's an ingrate . |
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Chief Tony Okocha, has declared that the Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, cannot decide where the next governor of the state will come from in 2023. Okocha, who was Chief of Staff, Government House, Port Harcourt, made the declaration while speaking at the inauguration of the Obio/Akpor local government area chapter of a political pressure group, the Rivers Voice of Freedom (RVF). The APC chieftain stated that it was not the responsibility of any individual to zone the governorship position of the state to any zone of region. He said: “Well, he spoke his mind; he didn’t speak the mind of the party. I don’t think he spoke for the APC. He spoke as an individual. “Just like the Southern Governors that want the Presidency to come to the South and people from the North are kicking against it. That is the Honourable Minister’s opinion. It has nothing to do with Rivers people.” Earlier in his welcome address, RVF President, Comrade Dominic Dumekpigi, said the group has began moves to ensure that more youths participate in elections in Rivers State, ahead of the 2023 general elections. Dumekpigi said: “As a grassroot mobilization group, we owe ourselves the truth and the truth is to ensure we continue to defend what is just in a bid to enhance peaceful coexistence as members of the same family. “As a matter of fact, RVF came up after the 2019 general election, having seen our chances and chances of our political leaders who share same vision of playing politics without bitterness and acrimony.”

Again, crisis looms in Rivers APC as Abe, Amaechi loyalists bickerPublished on July 10, 2021 By Clement Chinedu There appears to be disquiet within the ranks of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State over the upcoming party congresses of the party. While no official date has been announced for the commencement of the congress, party faithful have, however, commenced preparations for the exercise. Ahead of the Congresses in Rivers State, some members of the party loyal to Senator Magnus Abe and those loyal to the minister of Transportation, Rotimi Ameachi are already in disagreement over those who are qualified to contest for positions during the congresses. A chieftain of the party, Innocent Ajaelu who is a loyalist of senator Abe, wants the National leadership of the APC to allow only those who bought nominations forms for the 2018 congresses to take part in the upcoming congresses. Ajaelu said the call is in compliance with a Supreme court ruling. In his words, they should allow the will of the Supreme Court to prevail. The Supreme Court said only these people who bought forms should participate in any congress in Rivers state. That is the Supreme Court ruling”. Ajaelu also alleged that some party members loyal to the minister of Transportation are already compiling names of “preferred candidates” that would emerge during the congresses. While calling on the state caretaker committee Chairman of the APC, Chief Isaac Ogbogbula to resign for “incompetence ” the Abe loyalist called on the national leadership of the party to intervene in order to prevent a repeat of the party’s experience in 2018. Responding to the claims of Ajaelu, the state chairman of the APC, Isaac Ogbogbula dismissed the claims that the Supreme Court only allowed only those who bought nomination forms in 2018 to take part in the congresses. ” There is no decision of the Supreme Court anywhere, where it was held that only those who bought forms in Rivers State in 2018 should participate in the forthcoming congresses of the party. Any person who tells you there is such a decision by the Supreme Court should make it open,” Ogbogbula said. Speaking about the compilation of the list of candidates for the congresses, Ogbogbula said it was part of “politicking” for any group to draw up a list of candidates they wish to support in the congresses. He, however, denied knowledge of such a list. In the meantime, the APC has extended the deadline for the membership registration and revalidation exercise in Rivers State by two weeks with effect from next Tuesday.

Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike says he cannot support anyone who does not have the vision and strength of mind to champion the course of the State progressively to succeed him in 2023. The governor said he is more concerned about the steady progress the state can continue to make after his tenure. Governor Wike stated this during the inauguration of the official residence of the Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly in the Old GRA, Port Harcourt, the State capital on Thursday. The governor warned blackmailers and those whose stock in trade is to create confusion within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to know that such indulgence will not fetch anybody the governorship ticket of the party. “I cannot support anybody who cannot move Rivers State forward. I will support those who mean well for this state and have the heart to continue to support the party.” The Rivers State Governor declared that no serious politician who is focused on winning any election can ignore the electoral strength of his political ward in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of the State. ” You need me. I am a governor that comes from the most populated electable voters. There is nobody in this State that wants to be governor that will not look for my local government. Our local government cannot be underrated. “Don’t hate me too much. Let’s people know that we must all work together to move Rivers state forward.” Governor Wike reasserted the status of the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly and said anybody plotting to unseat him will be pitching a fight against the party and should be ready for the consequences. The governor clarified that he never said all national or State lawmakers were working against him. He urged contributors to pages of the newspaper to show good understanding of spoken expressions when reporting. “I never said that Assembly people are plotting against me. I never said so. I said some Assembly people, I know what they’re doing. “There’s a difference between National Assembly and some members of the National Assembly. There is difference between State Assembly and some members of State Assembly. Those of you writing in the newspaper, I never said National Assembly. Some people don’t understand that simple grammar.” Speaking about the new official residence built for the speaker, Governor Wike noted how the official quarters was abandoned until his intervention. According to Governor Wike, the intervention was possible because of the cordial relationship that exists between the legislature and the executive. “Today, you have an Assembly that has a Speaker’s official residence. We are building 32 number of 4 bedroom flats for the Assembly members which will be commissioned this year. We have paid 70 percent of the money.” Governor Wike also dismissed media report alleging that the Rivers State Government is indebted to commercial banks. The governor said the state government is not owing any bank and challenged anybody with any contrary proof to show it. Performing the inauguration, former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Austin Opara said the administration of Governor Wike has positively imparted every arm of government, sector and local government. “This is another plus for you and for your government. You keep making us proud. We are proud of you. Our prayer is that you move from this level to higher level. Indeed, Nigeria needs what you’re doing in Rivers State. “You have transformed Rivers State to the level that it has become the envy of the people of this country. We stand tall in the comity of states when issues concerning the nation is being discussed. Today, in PDP, nationally, nobody can take Rivers state for granted. In the politics of Nigeria, nobody can take Rivers state for granted.” In his speech, Rivers State Commissioner of Housing, Chinedu Tasie Nwobueze said the official residence of the Speaker has been built to reflect the taste of quality associated with Governor Wike. According to him, it is a 5 bedroom duplex that has a private office space for the speaker, a boys’ quarters, service quarters, mechanised swimming pool and standby generating set. Yet he appointed his own man as RESIEC chairman .wicked wike is scared |
By Davies Iheamnachor, PORT HARCOURT Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has alleged that the All Progressives Congress, APC, led federal government is appointing only Vice Chancellors that would help the party rig the 2023 elections. Wike said only compromised academics who are willing to submit names of politically exposed lecturers as returning officers to rig elections for the ruling party are being appointed as Vice Chancellors of federal universities. Wike, who warned Vice-Chancellors and lecturers to be wary of attempts by some unscrupulous politicians to use them to manipulate elections, declared that those contemplating rig elections in Rivers State will be treated as coup plotters. The Special Assistant to the governor on Media, Kelvin Ebiri, in a statement in Port Harcourt, stated that Wike made the during the foundation laying ceremony for the construction of 9200 capacity ultramodern convocation arena of the University of Port Harcourt by the Rivers State government on Tuesday. Wike said it is worrisome that Nigeria has degenerated to the point where politicians now influence who becomes a Vice-Chancellor of a federal government for the purposes of rigging elections. He said: “Let me warn, not one person will dare to rig election in Rivers State. Not one person will dare it. I have told people, allow the university community to produce those who will be leaders of this country. “Don’t turn university community to be where you will have politicians who manipulate and change the mandate of the people. Anybody who does that, you know it is a coup and you know the punishment for coup plotters.” He stressed that the reason there is so much tussle these days on who becomes Vice-Chancellor of federal universities is because of political interference by extraneous forces. He described as heartrending a situation whereby lecturers who are supposed to revered in society, wilfully compromise their integrity, just to become Vice-Chancellor, who will afterwards be used to manipulate elections. Wike said: “These days, you see a lecturer, a PhD holder, a professor ready to soil his name, to allow himself to be kidnapped and taken somewhere to sign result and to declare somebody who did not win election winner.” The governor enjoined desperate politicians in the ruling party not to dent the integrity of the university system because of their inordinate ambition. The Governor, however, warned that any Vice-Chancellor that allows himself to be used to rig election in Rivers State should be prepared for the consequences of such hideous act. The governor declared that the 2023 general election will be completely different from the 2019 election which was manipulated by the ruling party. He insisted that attempts to prevent transmission to election results electronically will be resisted. “If you want to play politics with us, I will rub your mud. If you want to join us (politicians), openly come and join us. But if you want to hide under the university. “INEC knows that they have to be prepared in 2023. And that is why we will resist any attempt for anybody to manipulate the amendment of the Electoral Act, to say that election results will not be transmitted electronically. That will not happen. If you want the vote of the people to count, the result must be transmitted electronically,” he added. Meanwhile, the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Professor Stephen Okodudu commended Governor Wike for consistently identifying with the ideals and aspirations of the university. Okodudu said: “You have continued to support the successive administrations of the University through the donation of funds and provision of social infrastructure to give meaning to the lives of staff and students. I recall with nostalgia, that Your Excellency attracted the construction of the Faculties of Law and Social Sciences buildings while serving as the Hon. Minister of State for Education.”

Following the recent political crisis rocking Rivers State, Governor Nyesom Wike and his former Commissioner for Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, John Bazia on Monday throw shades at each over the recent defections between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress ( APC) in the state. Featuring on Channels Television, Politics Today both Wike and Baiza traded words and lambast each other on the programme. With the intense argument, the programme ended on a dramatic note when Bazia described Governor Wike as a thug. It could be recalled that the ex-commissioner had not only left Wike’s cabinet, but also dumped the PDP for the APC. Speaking on the show, the ex-commissioner said, “The governor, Wike, I must tell you (that) all those who are with him, they know what they are going through. But you have been seeing him on TV and the way he has been behaving in Nigeria. “Sometimes, you will be baffled if that is an enlightened and educated mind; the way he carries himself. He forgets that he holds the exalted position, the office of the governor. He behaves like a thug…” Meanwhile, the anchor of the programme, Seun Okinbaloye, however, interjected Bazia, saying his words were weighty but Wike was miffed when the interviewer called him to react to the ex-commissioner. He partly said, “You sit down there and somebody who said I appointed him had the temerity, the audacity to say I behave like a thug, and you are asking me that question to react to what somebody I appointed (as commissioner) said. “However, let me tell you: look at him talking now. When he was commissioner, did he look that haggard? A thug appointed you commissioner; you never knew that he was a thug but he appointed you a commissioner. So, only when he removed you that you then know that he behaves like a thug. “You did not resign, you were working with a thug all the while until when the thug did not bring you back as a commissioner (for a second term in 2019), you then realised that he behaves like a thug. “Now, look at the kind of characters we have and these are the kinds of people that you want me to respond to: somebody who stole the ‘kola’ of traditional rulers and up till now, he has not gone to court to challenge our saying (allegation) that he stole ‘kola’ given to traditional rulers and clergymen. “Why did he not resign when he was commissioner? When I won my second tenure, he was lobbying that I was going to bring him back, but when I appointed another commissioner, he knew that he would not come back.”

By Anayo Onukwugha | The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, has said the riverine axis of the state deserves the 2023 governorship seat for handing over the seat to the upland axis in 1999. Caretaker committee chairman of APC in the state, Barrister Isaac Abbot Ogbobula, disclosed this yesterday when leadership of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) visited him in Port Harcourt. Ogbobula stated that the leader of party in the state and minister of Transportation, Rt Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has been consistent in his clamour for power shift to the riverine axis of the state since 2014. He said: “That pronouncement shows character is in display. The man has been consistent in his clamour for a governor of riverine extraction. From 2014, he started saying that it will not be fair for the upland to continue as far as governorship is concerned in the state. “There is need for other components of the state to occupy that Number One seat. Come to think of it, before power shifted to the upland, we were all here and saw what was happening. Those who were in-charge of affairs, by the time we returned to democracy, who could take everything were riverine people. “We had Elder Marshall Harry and AK Dikibo, as well as Alabo Graham-Douglas. They were in-charge; if they had wanted to retain power, they would have done so. But they said no against all odds; going against even their own brother, Ebenezer Isokariari. They practically handed over power to Dr Odili. And here we are; we don’t want to cede to the riverine.” Earlier in his remarks, chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the NUJ in Rivers State, Amaechi, called for genuine reconciliation amongst members of the party in the state. Okonkwo said: “APC is one of our publics that we cannot ignore. We are glad that APC had resolved its internal crisis. There should be no victor, no vanquished. “We plead with the caretaker committee of the party to ensure that beyond the Supreme Court judgment, you build APC in Rivers State to come up as a formidable opposition. “The opposition in Rivers State is looking towards the APC for leadership. We are open to you as long as you are able to carry us along. We want you to maintain your open door policy towards journalists in the state.”
