PoliticsNigerians Are Dying In Silence – Fayose by kcmichael(op): 9:07pm On Feb 24, 2018
Ekiti State Governor, Chief Ayodele Fayose, has said the corporate existence of Nigeria is being threatened by selective administration of justice, marginalisation, vendetta against perceived political opponents among others and called on well-meaning citizens to rise up and salvage the situation before it is too late.

This is just as he decried the level of poverty in the country, adding that many Nigerians are dying in silence with nobody standing up for them.
He therefore called on people of good conscience not to allow their voices to be silenced because of possible political antagonism or persecution.

He spoke in Lagos on Friday night while being conferred with the award of Man of the People by the Silverbird Group.

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Idowu Adelusi, he quoted the governor as saying that the major step to take to solve the problem was in going back to the basics and restructuring the country.

Fayose, who fielded questions from newsmen after the event, said he would not allow anybody to drown his voice or silence him no matter what it would cost.

“A lot of people we know to be vocal have lost their voices. Some have taken cover under the beds of their wives. We are in a perilous time and I appreciate those who are still standing for the people at this time. For me I will remain a man. Some people have kept quiet because they fear that they may be persecuted.

” But should we all keep quiet when people are oppressed and suppressed and blatantly marginalised? Look at the level of poverty in the country, it is sickening. The standard of living has gone down. And how do we explain a situation where some people are treated as slaves and others as princes. This country belongs to all of us. It is in serious need now and we must salvage the situation,” he said.

On the call for restructuring, Fayose said he aligned with the call made many years ago by the late Dim Emeka Odumegwu Ojukwu that the country must be restructured.

He noted that the issues that led to the civil war were yet to be resolved many decades after.

“I was moved by what the late Chief Ojukwu said many years ago and never knew his wife would be the one to present this award to me. We should go back to the basics or we are going no where. We are one and the same and no section must be marginalised,” he said.

While charging leaders to make laws for the good of the people, he noted that such laws must be obeyed by all.

Fayose added that the law prohibiting open grazing in Ekiti State has come to stay, warning that anybody who crosses the line would be dealt with.

While presenting the award to Fayose, former Nigerian Ambassador to Spain, Mrs Bianca Ojukwu, described Fayose as an irrepressible governor of the people.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Silverbird Group, Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, said all the award winners were men and women who deserved to be so recognised.

PoliticsSenator Protests Adamu’s Sacking As Caucus Chair by kcmichael(op): 8:06pm On Feb 22, 2018
Lawmaker representing Bauchi South Senatorial District, Senator Ali Wakili, on Thursday protested against the removal of Senator Abdullahi Adamu as Chairman of the Northern Senators Forum without the general knowledge of its members.

Wakili, who raised a point of order at the plenary, said there was no meeting by members of the forum where they collectively agreed to sack Adamu as caucus leader.

Shortly before plenary was adjourned on Wednesday, Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu, who presided over the session, read a letter from the NSF signed by the Public Relations Officer, Senator Dino Melaye, announcing the sacking of Adamu.

The letter read, “This is to inform the Senate that the majority signatories of members of the Northern Senators Forum have removed Senator Abdullahi Adamu as Chairman of the Northern Senators Forum for financial mismanagement and maladministration. We announce his replacement with Senator Aliyu Wamakko immediately. Find the attached names and signatories of members.”

Ekweremadu however did not read the names on the signatories, while the list was not made available to journalists after enquiries.

On Thursday, Wakili said, “I was not here yesterday but I saw it in the papers and over the television when you announced the removal of Senator Abdullahi Adamu as the leader of the Northern Senators Forum.

“I come from the North and I am an active member of the Northern Senators Forum. At no time have we met and put to question any of the leaders of the Northern Senators Forum.

“It was brought to this place and it was announced and some of our colleagues went to the Press Centre and made statements that referred to some of us as monkeys. We are taking this political brinkmanship beyond the level we are supposed to take it. We are supposed to be wise men.

“The fact that I am not privy and the fact that the northern senators forum was dragged my privilege has been breached because nobody called me for a meeting. Senator Barau Jibrin, secretary of the forum, had never called a meeting. Senator Dino Melaye, the public relations officer of the forum, had never called for a meeting.

“When the announcement was made and the press statement, the spokesman for the Senate led some senators to the Press Centre to make some of these bombastic statements. By this, I want to say that my privilege has been breached because my constituents and other concerned northerners have also expressed their disgust, that why are we trying to destroy our leadership. I want the Senate to take judicial note of what I am saying.”

Ekweremadu, who presided over the session, said, “Alright, point noted.”

Responding to Wakili later at the plenary, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Aliyu Sabi-Abdullahi, raised a point of order to state that he did not speak for the forum but for the Senate when he addressed journalists on Wednesday.

PoliticsPDP Loses 42,000 Members To APC In Adamawa by kcmichael(op): 6:03pm On Feb 19, 2018
About 42,000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have decamped to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Leading the decampees who cover from 21 Local Government Areas of the state, is the former Presidential Adviser on Legal Matters to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Bar. Ali Gulak, other stakeholders of the PDP.

Bar. Gulak explained that the government has achieved success in the war against terrorism in the northeast, which alone is enough to decamp to the party.

He also added that the party (APC) gives opportunity for those eyeing certain positions in the party to get a chance.

They were received by the Vice Chairman of the APC, Northeast, Comrade Salihu Mahmud and other members of the party’s working committee.

In his remark, Comrade Mahmud, the northeast zonal vice chairman says this event is historic because of its magnitude

The highlight of the event was the lowering of the PDP flags and the hoisting of the APC flags at the secretariat.

In an interview with journalists after the event, the northeast zonal vice chairman of APC Comrade Mahmud says the party in the zone is endorsing President Buhari to contest the 2019 presidential elections.

According to the organisers of this event, it is only symbolic as a rally will be organised soon where all their 42,000 decampees will be formally received by the party in the state.

In a similar development, the state is expecting President Muhammadu Buhari to pay an official visit.

PoliticsWhy I Want To Take Over From Buhari – Lamido by kcmichael(op): 1:17pm On Feb 19, 2018
Sule Lamido, former Governor of Jigawa State and Peoples Democratic Party presidential aspirant has given reasons why he want to become Nigeria’s next President.

Lamido said his decision to contest for presidency was to restore vision of PDP founding fathers and to ensure unity, justice, equity and fair play in the polity.

He spoke in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital while soliciting for support of PDP members.

“There is so much wisdom, capacity, dexterity and goodwill in PDP”, he said.

“So, I am here as your brother, fellow party man, and a friend to engage you, and declare that, I have made the decision to offer myself to serve the country, which we have called our own.

“So, if you find me worthy of your trust and mandate, together we will restore unity, equity, justice and fair play in Nigeria.

“My aspiration is not desperation and it is only your support that can guarantee my success story in 2019.’’
