President Muhammadu Buhari appears to have changed his posture concerning the appointment of the new board of directors of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON), whose board was dissolved on Tuesday.
While dissolving the Mustapha Chike-Obi -led  board on Tuesday, Buhari announced the appointment of Ahmed Lawan Kuru as his replacement. He said that the appointment took immediate effect.
A statement announcing the appointments did not make reference to the mandatory Senate confirmation of the appointments.
Tongues started wagging on whether the president was ignoring the Senate in making the appointments, contrary to the Act setting up the corporation.
But the Special Adviser to the President on Media  and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina told Saturday Tribune on Friday that the president would forward the list of the appointees to the National Assembly for confirmation.
Responding to enquiries, Adesina said in a text message to Saturday Tribune: “Letter to the Senate done, thanks.”
Besides Kuru, other Executive Directors appointed by Buhari include Kola Ayeye, Eberechukwu Uneze and Aminu Ismail. They replaced the former Executive Directors who assumed duties alongside Chike Obi in 2010, including Mofoluke Benedicta Dosumu, Hewitt Adegboyega Benson and Abbas Mohammed Jega.
