Good day house,
My first application was refused in May. I obtained my gcms notes and want to reapply.

I'm I to resubmit a fresh statement of account or use the same documents from my sponsor originally submitted?
Also, do you advise I perform an upfront medicals or await their prompting for medicals?

Kindly help me with necessary clarifications to avoid stories that touch.

Submit fresh account statement showing 1 year of banking history from the date you are applying for your study permit.

Abeg who are the draggers on this platform we have someone to drag.

I don’t know if these errors on the picture are typographical errors or as a result of bad spelling. I wonder if you guys bother to vet these agents before giving them your application to work on.

Hello everyone. Please I'm in a fix & I need your advice cry.

Prior to my application for a research-based msc programme in Canada, I reached out to a prof who confirmed she'd be taking in 2 graduate students and also confirmed that our research interests aligned but wouldn't take anybody yet till the academic committee and potential supervisors reviewed all applications.

4 months after applying (may 2021), I heard nothing from the school. So, I mailed the graduate co-ordinator inquiring about the outcome of my application and the professor replied instead.

The prof told me she was finalizing her research group for fall and asked if I'd be able to talk over zoom. We had the meeting and we talked about my research proposal and said she'd be taking me in and giving me the emails of her other students and would speak to the graduate co-ordinator about funding as I am an international student.

With her word, I assumed I was in only for me to again mail the graduate co-ordinator in June (as time for visa application was going) and then be told the prof isn't taking in students again.

I was shocked and asked if there was a mix-up. I mailed the supervisor and she said she was sorry and that I misunderstood her. That she was torn as I am an excellent fit for her lab but that she is already taking in 2 phd students and now at her maximum capacity.

I mailed the graduate co-ordinator and asked if it was possible to switch to course work instead. She said that though my application had already been denied (cos of the prof), I would be considered.

But now the thing is next week is July and I don't even know when I would hear from the school. Plus neither I nor my close relatives have my school fees. I thought I would get in through research which is why I applied for only research programmes.

I met the minimum requirement of 75% btw . Had 82% in undergrad.

Does anybody have an idea how I can "appeal" to the professor or go about the situation?

Sorry about this. There is no point switching to course based program if you don’t have tuition fee.

Brace up, and start again! Don’t let anyone tell you to go through the stress of raising money and all, life isn’t that hard. If your parents or yourself can’t sponsor you, then you should get funding for your graduate school.

So, kindly share your academic profile here or via a direct message, and we all can comment further.

It will end in praise!

To those that submitted their passports to Vfs Lagos how long did it take for them to confirm reception of passport and possibly send a tracking id?

I sent my passport since on Friday, and till today no single message from them. Is there anything I can do to know the status of my documents? Cos, I am beginning to be worried if they received the passport or not.

Good morning everyone, I intend to attach the note below to the mybankstatement and gift deed that I will send to IRCC via webform today. Please is there anything you feel I should correct in the note? Thanks in anticipation of your kind response.
"Dear Visa Officer

Thank you once more for offering me the Nigeria Student Express (NSE) for faster processing of my study permit application.
I am writing with regards to my previous letter dated 28 May 2021 in which I responded to your NSE offer and informed you that I may not be able to provide the documents you requested before the deadline but assured you that I have sufficient funding required to successfully complete my Ph.D. as I was offered graduate funding by Saint Mary’s University (SMU) and my supervisor.

Kindly find attached the documents requested (a mybankStatement certificate and 12 months of banking history)

The 2 million Naira lumpsum deposit in my bank account is a gift from my father which I have earmarked to supplement the graduate funding offered to me by SMU and my supervisor (please see the gift deed attached for more details).

I kindly ask that you continue with the faster processing of my application so that I can get a decision that is early enough to enable me to attend the fall semester
Thank you very much for your time and favourable consideration."

I wouldn’t have advised you to send a lump sum to your account. If the money is from your dad, all you needed was your dad’s bank statement and a letter of support stating how much he will be giving you towards your studies. Also, He must tell the VO the number of persons dependent on him, to further assure the VO that the 2million naira is actually available for you.

Anyway, since you have added a lump sum to your account already, kindly attach your dad’s 1 year bank statement (highlight where the money is coming from, attach my bank statement cert for both you and your dad to make verification faster), attach his work details like payslips, promotion letter and employment letter. The reason is because, if you are adding as low as 10 naira to your funding, the VO wants to be super sure that the money is available and it is from a legitimate source.

Just on the side, you will actually need 2 Million naira to take care of traveling expenses, quarantine and expenses related to your first month settling down in Canada. So, it is just reasonable to show that amount.

LONG POST BUT PLEASE READ TILL THE END
Greetings everyone, please I need your advice. My Ph.D. admission in Canada came with graduate funding. The graduate funding is $28,816 CDN for the first year, this covers the cost of my annual fee for the program ($14,607 Tuition Fees, + $1,077 Mandatory Fees + $1,118 Medical & Dental Fees) with an excess of $12,014 to contribute towards my living expenses. I applied for a study permit on 30 April and received NSE on 7 May to submit mybankstatement and IELTS. I replied to the NSE request with a letter of explanation that my studies will be funded by the University and reattached my admission letter.

Today, my friend from Zimbabwe who was also admitted to the same program received a visa rejection based on the reason “insufficient funds, including income or assets to carry out your stated purpose in coming to Canada or to maintain yourself while in Canada and to effect your departure”

She used the Statement of Account of her Uncle as proof of fund to cover travel expenses and miscellaneous.
My question is, since I am yet to get a decision, should I get a gift deed from a family member and then send a mybankstatement via webform stating that the gift deed is to cover my travel expenses? If yes, what should be the minimum value of the gift deed? NB: I did not submit my Statement of Account because the balance was not much (less than 500k); I also did not say anything about my travel expenses in my Letter of explanation, I only focused on expenses while in Canada.
Thanks in anticipation of your advice

MY PROFILE:
1. Age: 27 yrs
2. B.Sc: First Class (Nigeria, 2015)
3. Masters: Distinction (South Africa, 2020), very related to my PhD
4. Travel history: 6 months in Germany for Research Internship with the United Nations, 2 years in South Africa for studies.
5. Scholarship: Former recipient of the German government fully funded DAAD scholarship for masters.
6. Career: Have been working as an academic staff in the University since NYSC

POF DOCUMENTS SUBMITTED:
1. Admission letter stating graduate funding of $28,816 CDN for the first year, and that funding could be maintained with good academic performance.
2. Supervisor support letter stating she will provide me with comprehensive funding (but she did not specify the value of the funding)

HOME TIES DOCUMENTS SUBMITTED:
1. 2 bedroom apartment in my name worth 12.5 million Naira
2. My pension account of about 900k
3. Letter from the Vice Chancellor of the University where I currently lecture supporting my studies and stating that I will be granted leave
4. Payslip for 3 months
5. Marriage certificate and birth certificate of my child

Hi, I know a number of persons who have gotten approved with just funding letter. I personally got full funding and my visa was approved, though I added my personal statement showing around 1.6M to cover for travel expenses and my first 1 month in Canada.

My advice is that someone closely related to you like your dad or mum or sibling should come as a supporting sponsor in the eventuality of let say delayed payment. This person mustn’t be super rich, since your tuition payment and core living expenses are cast in stone. Usually, one won’t be refused based on insufficient funds (having been refused before with full funding), one will most likely get this financial status and personal asset story, and that’s why it is just good to add some personal funds or funds from very very close relatives.

That being said, your application will most likely be approved. Don’t get too worried, just pray a good VO reviews your application.

Best of luck and it will end in praise!

Hi guys, good day.

Quick Clarification:

I did my biometrics at VFs in Lagos in October 2020, but I got approved after my 2nd application. Do I have to pay the transmission fee when sending my passport to the Lagos Vfs?

Also, to those that sent to Abj and got their passport very fast, I can easily get DHL to send my passport from Lagos to Abuja right? Idea of the cost?

Thanks for the anticipated response.

Good morning everyone, I got my PPR this morning. This is my 2nd application, having been initially refused dec 2020 on financial status and personal assets, and family ties.

Timeline:

Applied feb 10th (there was no need for biometrics since it was 2nd time application)

Eligibility review started feb 17th

Got my gcms notes April 19th and the pre-assessment stated that I was going for a course that didn’t align with my undergraduate course of study and career as a Data Scientist. Also highlighted that I was being “funded by a professor” and that my family didn’t look well established. Anyway, I gave up as I had other opportunities. Through encouragement from different persons, I sent a short email and also raised a webform explaining that my program was fully funded research based masters at a top University in Canada, and that it is because of my excellent undergraduate degree and my experience as a data scientist that made me a fit for the program which is actually an engineering program under the faculty of agriculture, since my research involved the intersection of engineering(electrical sensing, automation and digital communications) and data analytics. I added link to my supervisor research page, a design thinking material I had with my supervisor detailing my research work, and also ensured to point that my masters was under the department of engineering and not exactly an agricultural program, that it was applied intelligent engineering to agriculture. (my supervisor was furious when I told him what the pre-assessment said, I reported it to the international office and they said nothing could be done aside appealing like as I have done). Then, for the finance, I drew their attention to my personal fund, to the research assistantship letter from the office of the associate dean of research and to my Uncle’s financial documents. But then, my research is fully funded, so every other financial documents I added were only met to explain to them that in case of eventualities, my Uncle can quickly cover a bit of my expenses. Then for family ties, I drew their attention to my mum and late dad’s landed properties, my study leave, my pension account and also quickly chipped in the fact that my Uncle is the governor of Edo state(I added Wikipedia link) and another of my Uncle is the CMD of UBTH(added Wikipedia link). Mind you, nobody has same surname as me. All had same surname as my mum, and they are actually my mum’s cousins. The point is, I didn’t really have to submit new documents, i just resent what I sent before but this time gave very very short and clear explanation to their concerns. These guys are overwhelmed as well, so they could mistakenly not see some stuffs, and I would advice we give very concise explanation to any concerns that might be raised.

May 5th I got medical request
May 25th went for the medicals and I couldn’t see clearly. I was scared. Lol.
June 2nd I passed medical and I started sending webform and emails twice weekly since my application has passed 8 weeks.
June 14th I got PPR and BVL.

Special thanks to justmellow, frankrobbn, Chocs and everyone that responded to my incessant emails and post here. Finally, it has ended in praise.

Please I need the information on what I need to put together for me to send my passport. Also, I want to resume in September instead of May, hope this won’t be a problem as my supervisor has agreed to this. I need y’all guidance. Thanks and God bless us all!

To give a clearer picture. This is her second denial. Reason for first denial in 2019 was "lack of sufficient funds to pay tuition, maintain self etc". After which we reapplied and gave detailed explanations and a very satisfying bank statement from sponsor. Now a second denial with a different reason. " I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay as stipulated in subsection 216(1) of the IRPR, based on your personal assets and financial status"
We are thinking of doing a gift of deed of a land from parent to her. Would it look suspicious? What are better ways of handling this and presenting a robust case to the visa officer? We are about to reapply.

1. Get your gcms notes
2. Personal assets and financial status is usually as a result of finance that cannot be proved to be available. It could be caused by ;

- An unclear relationship between the sponsor and the principal applicant.
- Lump sum
- Doubt about the sponsor’s ability to actually make the funds available for the PA.

So, if the sponsor is not your direct relative(Mum, Dad or Sibling), then it could be as a result of that. Of course, if there is unexplained or unjustifiable sum in your sponsor’s account, then that could have been the reason. It could also be other stuffs, but it usually has nothing to do with the applicant’s “assets and financial status”.

I am sure gurus here will give better explanation. Best of lucks! And it will end in praise for us all.

What do you mean by pre-asseesment

Usually someone assesses your application before it is moved to a VO for final decision making.

Please how do you "respond", "appeal" or "reply" to negative review before a more senior officer reviews your application after getting GCM notes?

My Application is exactly one month old today, can I go ahead and order for it?

Raise a webform and address it. You can also send email to nairobi. I will advise one does both.

May. As a matter of fact, my orientation starts tomorrow and classes start in exactly 8 days.

Since you applied feb 4th, you should have tried to get your gcms notes in March/April. I applied got mine exactly 1 month after eligibility review started(i.e. march 17th) and I saw that the pre-assessment was flawed, and since they wrote review required, I quickly responded to it and somehow God made the right VO review my application. May 5th I got a medical request from them.

I think this also to every other person, don’t wait till it is 1 week to your resumption before you start trying to get your gcms notes. Truth is, the review of your application is done quite fast by a Case Analyst, and subsequently a more senior officer goes through your file and the recommendations of the case analyst to make a final decision. If the case analyst writes negative stuffs about you from your gcms notes, you can still appeal before a VO goes through it. This has worked for a few persons, and I think it is a way to go.

Stay blessed! It will end in praise for us all.

I finally got my GCMS notes. This was the mail sent to me " Hello, your application is still in progress and has not reached a stage where the visa officer can update notes regarding the final decision of your application. You can still check the last 4 pages for any status updates. You can order another report in couple of weeks to see the final decision." (I applied in september)

On the notes my eligibility says "recommended interview " while the last comment from the vo was:"Name on application changed" then they wrote old values and new values, all are my names except that the one of old values omitted the hyphen in my surname while the new value had the correct name. Eg. (Old value: John Chris, Michael and new value: john-chris Michael). The new value is the correct one. Please what do they all mean? Upfront medical i submitted on the 13th of April is not capture, medical is still blank.

Quickly respond to the name change. Do you have official documents to justify this change and probably clearly state why this change was made? Did you publish this in national dailies? You need to quickly raise webform to address this concerns.

Anyway, guys, how can I go about this medical examination? I was given just 30 days, and I am entirely clueless.

Hey here! Good morning.

I am noticing that many persons are not meeting IRCC 6.0 across different sections and still being advised to use it. Looks to me that we are the reason why IRCC is asking for IELTS.

You reason it, if out of 20 Nigerians that apply for visa, 10 didn't meet their minimum requirement, does that not justify their reason for requesting for it in the first place? I was once told that schools in the US wanted to stop asking for TOEFL from Nigerians, but they couldn't, cos our results were never really good like guys from Zambia and Ghana. I think we are more focused on leaving Nigeria than leaving the right impression. Please, let's endeavour to sit tight for these exams, ace them very well and submit afterwards. If peradventure you didn't do well(I.e. didn't meet their requirement), it is advisable to re-take the test. I feel most Nigerians can score 6.0 and above in all sections of the IELTS test, at least those that are educated should be able to do this effortlessly. But then, some us don't sit tight to prepare, we are more focused on the end-goal than the process.

My point: if we keep using scores that don't meet their requirements, we are giving them strong reasons for them to keep requesting for this. Very soon, Canadian universities would make it compulsory for Nigerians to submit IELTS result because of their bad performance during visa application. Shalom!

Good afternoon all, I've been a silent reader on this platform, and would like to thank the gurus for all they are doing so far.
I have a question; what are my chances of getting my visa application approved?

I applied since February 24th, did my biometrics on February 26th and I haven't gotten any other update apart from "background check" and my "biometrics validation" for over a month now.

I am 23 years old, just finished my NYSC this March. I am a Microbiology Bsc holder and also served in a hospital. I applied for a Software Development and Network Engineering advanced diploma in a Canadian college for Fall 2021 intake and got in. My Sponsor is my Dad (a businessman), he had an approximate of N12m as his final balance in his account when I sent my MBS although he has transacted a little over N250m within the 6 months of the MBS.

I would like to know my chances, please. Thanks

Do you have any experience in this area you applying to? And I think advanced diploma is lesser than a BSc, so you might be having issue with progression. Let other gurus in the house drop their comments
