LagosismyHome: If the person has overstayed on the b1b2 or broken the terms of that visa....then thats a different conversation and yes i can see the possibility of the b1b2 cancelled
If no terms have been broken f1 outcome should not affect exisiting b1b2 . Thank you very much. |

TWoods: To others who may be interested... a few rules of thumb to follow:
1. Just because it says so on the USCIS website that you "may" (note the operative word) does not mean you should. Always remember, immigration decisions you take today have consequences in future.
2. Applications to adjust status from B1 to F1, within 30-60 days of entering the US on a B1 visa are generally rejected by the USCIS. Early applications such as this are always considered "preconcieved intent", unless you specifically indicated at your B1 interview that you would like to consider the option of adjusting status to F1 during your trip.
3. If you applied for a B1 at the interview and also mentioned the option of adjusting to an F1, the VO will also adjudicate your eligibility for an F1 visa at that time and note "prospective student" on your visa.
4. Remember, should your attempt to adjust to F1 in the US be turned down, your chances of getting an F1 or B1 visa in your home country diminishes since an attempt to circumvent immigration rules will already be noted on your record.
5. The opportunity to adjust from B1 to F1 was severely restricted after 9-11, so this is not a trivial matter.
6. As you may be aware when it comes to US law, "may" does not mean " you should". Thanks. You seem quite knowledgeable in this. In as much as having a valid b1/B2 visa increases chances of getting the F1, would it get cancelled if somehow, the F1 is denied. I've Heard of a few peeps that had their Valid visit visas cancelled when they applied for F1 and got denied. I don't have the details tho. Just the outcome. In my opinion, visa applications are treated differently and one shouldn't affect the other Could you please shed more light on this? I understand the implications of not getting stamped into the country on an F1 visa, especially when one applies for OPT. My only concern is the cancellation of the B1/B2 of something goes wrong. Is it true ? I am not being pessimistic tho. Just need answers. Thanks |

anaccondac: I didnt say you have an F-1, that was an assumption. Why are you scared about denial. You have a chance of getting you F-1 approved since you have travel history. Better chance than fresh applicants. Thanks. Would come back and apply for the F1 |

TWoods: Come back to Nigeria and apply for an F1. You can't change status from B1 to F1 in the US. No your B1 visa will not be cancelled just because you applied for an F1 visa. Subsequent applications to renew the B1 visa may be problematic should your F1 application be denied though. Thanks. |

LagosismyHome: Why would u think u get denied ? ..... think positive
Prepare well for the interview, you are more than enough resource that have been posted here on Nairaland for F1 application .. with that you should be fine ..Also as someone has corrected a denied F1 application doesnt affect the existing B1B2 Thank you. |

anaccondac: If you have an F-1 what do you need a B1/B2 for. And no it might/might not be cancelled. What they told you is a big fat lie. Apply for your F-1 from Nigeria it is cheaper and stress free. The wait times for change of status spans from 3-1year before approval. After approval you know if you need the visa stamped you'll still need to go to the embassy for visa. So my advice is apppy from Nigeria Thanks. I have the B1/B2 and not the F1. Changing status can be challenging, yes I know. But if they might cancel the existing B1/B2 if the F1 gets denied, then it's worse. |

Hello everyone, Please I have a valid B1/B2 visa. I plan on studying in the US also. Should I change status to F1 when I visit the US? Or should I come back and apply for the F1 ?
Secondly, would my B1/B2 visa be cancelled when I apply for the F1? I heard it gets cancelled without prejudice and my F1 would get cancelled too.
Please I need guidance. |

Nadia94: Ok, not bad... but dat person has to be a trusted sombori...Thank you!!!
Anyone else with Form A info biko, is it still available? A friend said ts not... Hi Nadia, Form A transactions are called Trade invisibles and they are still being done. School fees payment paid to the school and living expenses paid directly in to a student's account fall within this category The only issue here is that the rates and availability of FX is dependent on the interbank market as opposed to the CBN, as before. So what I'm trying to say is that banks, especially the FXPD's (foreign exchange primary dealers) still engage in these transactions, but at a rate predetermined by the interbank market. So different banks with different rates, and different processes. So, Try out to inquire about Trade invisibles from banks. It's not among the banned items so I'm very certain that banks still do it, just at the interbank rate for that day, determined by availability of FX. I know Access did formA for about N300:1USD last week. The good thing is that you don't have to wait for a whole week as in the past, for the banks to send these Trade invisible items to CBN, they just debit and remit next day, if funds are available. (Tho CBN intervenes from time to time, but that's without the knowledge of the customer) Hope this calms you down. Cheers. |

Giov: Please I'm abt to submit my app.(Paper route) I have my admission letter, letter of acceptance and signed consent letter. I understand am to submit the Originals of these documents. Any paper route applicant to confirm this please? Thanks guys. Hi, You would submit originals and one photocopy each of admission letter and letter of acceptance. Then originals of bank statements and bank reference letter(No photocopies needed) Basically, vfs would ask u to submit photocopy of any document that is not specifically addressed to Canadian high commission. So, your signed letter of consent should be addressed to the Canadian high commission for the originals to be accepted. Hope this helps you. |
