K234: Hey Nairalanders! It's been ages since I've visited this thread but I still remember how a lot of the information shared here was very useful to me during my grad application process and visa interview. In my own way of giving back and lending my support to this platform, I and some of my fellow Nigerian grad students decided to create a platform on facebook for incoming Nigerian grad students to Texas A&M University, College Station. Anyone who has been accepted for the Fall 2019 session can join the group (undergrads are also welcome!!). We will share information with you about housing, jobs on campus, general student life, etc. Feel free to request to join using this link https://www./2013984848907239/.
If the link doesn't work you can search for the group on facebook "Texas A&M Incoming Nigerian Graduates Students".
Cheers!!! Those who haven't been accepted but want To go nko? |

bracelum: Alright, I understand you now. It was a case of misunderstanding from my part. I thought you wanted to invest a lot of time doing school search instead of focusing on your GRE. So, I wanted to give you heads up that it might be a wrong strategy.
Just make sure you don't spend too much time researching schools when you should be studying on GRE. All the best! Yeah..thanks bro |

tactmayor: Just have/search 2 or 3 schools each in these three ranks- Top ranked, Average ranked and Low ranked. Write the school codes in a paper which you would be allowed to take into the exam hall. Then the score outcome of your GRE will enable you trim the 9 schools you have listed into four schools that you will report your score to. Yeah...thanks man...this is good advice |

bracelum: Focus more on the GRE now. Focus more on getting a stellar score. You can make a decision on your school a few weeks to your exam. If you spend a ton of time researching on schools now, it might distract you from getting a stellar score. From my discussion with a lot of candidates, too much of time spent on school search limits their study time which affects their scores.
This is assuming that getting a stellar score is a priority for you. Lol.,i think u don't understand me yet.. Getting a GRE score is my goal..I am targetting a perfect score...but if I haven't done the minimal research I'll just waste my 4 free score reports cos I won't know which school to send my perfect score to...I am not saying I want to spend hours researching schools...I just want to know basic questions to ask that's all In general I just no want make d free score reporting waste ...lol...cos 80$ no be small money |

Johnolukolade: What's your undergraduate specialization and GPA? What (research and teaching) experience do you have? Like I'll say, there's a school for everyone and if you don't want tofool yourself, you should know which schools you can get into unconditionally, schools that would fund you and you won't need to get loans or something. You should know your strength even before taking the GRE and with that, you will know which schools fit your profile and ability. Don't start building your castle in the air, it won't pay you eventually.
Best!! Computer Engineering Final cgpa yet to be released..am fresh out of school...last cgpa was 3.2/4 |

Leone26: As you've been advised, prep well for the GRE if it's applicable to your intended program.
As you prep for it, also carefully review entry requirements on program websites of your shortlisted schools especially; prerequisite courses, if transcript evaluations are required (this would save you further costs) etc.
You can then send an email to the grad coords. In the email; introduce yourself, then politely ask about the assistantship opportunities available in the program, and what you need to do to be considered for them. I think it's best to hear from them before contacting Profs. Their responses should guide your school selections for the GRE and subsequent online applications.
Best wishes as you get set. Thanks man..this is good info. |

bracelum: Have you taken the GRE? That should be the first step before mailing the admissions office. Focus on it and get the best score you can get. Schools will always be there. You can do all the school research you want to do after getting a stellar GRE score. I haven't..I would be taking it by August... Its important I get an idea of the schools I want to apply to ...for instance on the day of the GRE , how will I know who to send my scores to if I have not done any findings?..which is why I don't think waiting until I write the GRE to mail is a good idea o |

bracelum: Way to go! Way to go! Once the admissions officers know you and know that you have a keen interest in their program, your application is just a formality. They won't even bother if you have a low profile compared to their class because they have known you better than your essays (aka SOPs) and they know what you will add to their program. That is one trick on securing admits to top and competitive programs even with a low profile.
Feel free to buzz me if you need any assistance. You're already on the right track! Is there anything like this for GRE.. Like maybe GREclub ..lol |

pragya2017: Hello everyone,
I just want to clarify something as regards i20 and financial documents. As we all know that the i20 doesn't show all fees for the duration of the program. Will the VO only check if one can cover this amount? or they will estimate the second year fee also and make sure the financial document can cover that amount.
Thank you The money the VO wants to see as minimum is what is stated on ur I20 |

solihp: Hello, mathematics is my strong point so I didn't practice the Quantitative aspect rigorously, I focused more on the verbal aspect. In all, I watched all magoosh videos, used magoosh and Manhattan online practice tests severally, wrote the two free power prep practice tests, used kaplan for AW, read the Manhattan books. You can also check my posts, I gave a full account of my GRE experience on the GRE thread. Goodluck to you. Thanks for this, if you don't mind I still would like to contact you, your mail should do ..... if you use that often |

solihp: I am officially bowing out of the admission process for fall 2019 , what a process. I accepted an offer earlier this week.
Let me introduce myself as I have been most active on GRE thread but I have been coming to this thread daily for close to a year.
Undergrad: Statistics, CGPA:4.07/5, unofficial WES evaluation:3.47/4 I decided to apply for admission just in December. I wrote my GRE in February and prepared for less than two months: 161Q,153V, 3.0AW. Most of the requirement for the schools were met in the third week of February because of GRE but I submitted my applications before then. The admission decisions so far
Villanova University: Admitted but awaiting funding Bowling Green State University: Admitted but awaiting funding University of iowa: Rejected Georgia State University: Admitted with GA which has full tuition waiver and some stipends George Washington University: Pending Michigan Technological University: Admitted without funding American University: Admitted with some funding but was not sufficient
I was using style to wait for GWU but I have finally gone for GSU as it was the best offer so far coupled with the course: Master's of Mathematics with concentration in Biostatistics.
Great work everyone has been doing on this thread, God bless you. I will be starting the preparation for my interview soon and I understand I have to read previous parts, at least as much as I can. I would really appreciate your help throughout the process when I eventually come up with my proposed transcript. Thank you all and keep up the good works.
Fall. 2019, yes we can Please I'll need your help with pointers from time to time on how to ace the GRE like u did, how can I contact u? |
