Romelu Lukaku is preparing to leave Manchester United on a projected £73.9 million move to Inter Milan. Both clubs have reportedly reached an agreement for the striker’s transfer. United have been offered an improved bid on Wednesday believed to be worth an initial of £64.7m with a further £9.2m payable in add ons. This has become one of the most talked-about transfers as the window nears its conclusion. Elsewhere, several media outlets report that United, who last month rejected an initial bid of £54m from Inter, have insisted on a sell-on clause given that Everton are due a £5m if the transfer is sealed under the terms that took Lukaku to United from Goodison Park three years ago. United reportedly want a profit on their original £75m investment. Thursday saw Lukaku traveling to Milan ahead of an anticipated medical with Inter scheduled for the next day. His agent, Federico Pastorello, posted a photo on Instagram of himself and Lukaku on a plane with the caption “Ready to take off …. destination Milano.” Read More: http://barcaking.com/romelu-lukaku-deal-imminent/

VAT WONDER GOAL: OKPOTU, USMAN AND ANI IN RACE FOR MATCH DAY 22 PRIZE Lobi Stars Anthony Okpotu, Bashir Usman of Niger Tornadoes and Elijah Ani of Wikki Tourists completes the trio listed for Match Day 22 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) VAT Wonder Goal award nominees announced by the League Management Company (LMC). Usman was the hero for Niger Tornadoes at Nnewi where he netted a back breaking goal four minutes into added time to dent FC IfeanyiUbah’s three seasons’ home invincibility on Sunday, May 27. In the historic win at FC IfeanyiUbah’s fortress, Bashir was put clear and after a perfect first touch, chose his spot to net the winning goal to deflate the home side’s ceaseless raid for a winner. In Jos on a day relegation threatened Wikki Tourists found their scoring range, Ani was at the end of a counter offensive, calmly slotting from the edge of the box after running clear of the defenders to reach a pass from Abba Umar who led the counter with a dash across the halfway line. Last season’s top scorer and CHAN Eagles lead forward, Okpotu made a light work of a free kick from over 25 meters and in a straight line from the goalkeeper’s spot, evading the four man wall to be the goalkeeper with a rising shot that sailed to the top left side of the keeper. Video of the goals have been uploaded on the NPFL website, www.npfl.ng and on the twitter handle, @lmcnpfl for fans to vote their favourite of all the goals. The player whose goal attracts the combined highest number of votes will emerge the winner. The poll opens Friday, June 1 and ends at midnight of Tuesday, June 5. The winner will be the recipient of the N150,000 cash prize half of which will be donated to a charity to be nominated by the player from the city his club is based. The VAT Wonder Goal is an initiative of the LMC to grow clubs-community engagement. OLUKOKUN, BALA, ALIMI & SEKA NOMINATED FOR NPFL VAT WONDER GOAL. Two former VAT Wonder Goal award winners, Pascal Seka and Sikiru Alimi are among the four candidates for the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Match Day 23 nominations. While Seka last won the award in the 2016/17 season, Alimi was the winner for Match Day 16 of the current campaigns. The other nominees are Nasarawa United’s Najeem Olukokun who netted their only goal in the 2-1 defeat to Plateau United and Reuben Bala, one of the scorers of Plateau United’s goal in the same match played in Jos. Bala’s goal came off a rebound from Itodo’s long throw which was nodded to the edge of the box by a defender and Bala who was lurking pounced to hit a volley that flew straight to the net. The goalkeeper had no chance as his outstretched hand was not long enough to reach the hot shot. In the same fixture, Olukokun was at the end of a tailored free kick from the right hand and he made a perfect jump to powerfully nod high up to the net with the goalkeeper badly positioned and rooted to his spot. FC IfeanyiUbah’s Seka exhibited pace, grit and composure to leave Yobe Desert Stars defenders in his wake and he let fly a low long range shot from over 40 meters for the opening goal of the match that ended 1-1 in Damaturu. Alimi’s trick inside the box left Heartland FC markers that sandwiched him stranded. It was a deft side flick which lifted the ball beyond the defenders to set up a quick volley which he executed to the delight of fans and perhaps, his opponents. Videos of the four goals have been uploaded on the NPFL website, www.npfl.ng and twitter handle, @lmcnpfl for voting which opens on Thursday, May 24 and ends at midnight ofSunday, May 27. The VAT Wonder Goal Award is an initiative of the League Management Company (LMC) supported by the Federal Inland Revenue Services (FIRS) to deepen club and community engagement through charity support and also promote the benefits of tax payment through the FIRS tax education campaign. The player whose goal receives the highest number of votes across both platforms wins the N150,000 prize money, 50 percent of which will be donated to a Charity to be nominated by the player. Such Charity must be based within the state where the club is based. WATCH AND VOTE FOR YOU FAVORITE GOAL OF MATCHDAY 21... https:///oFhnKy

It is not always that one sees so much entertainment packed into a goalless draw. The only thing Nasarawa United and Kano Pillars did not do in the Matchday 22 tie at the Lafia City Stadium was to score. Both teams served a sumptuous dish of football to the fans. Little wonder at a point even the home fans applauded the visitors. The applause was well deserved as the ‘Sai Masu Gida’ covered the arena with one-touch passes that at one instance, they put together 26. Ironically, the game started in a very dour note with both teams having difficulties carving out goalscoring opportunities. But from the 10th minute when Nasarawa bagged the game’s first corner to the 12th minute when Chris Madaki’s long range pass picked out Nyima Nwagua who shot tamely into Nasarawa keeper, Suraj Ayeleso’s hands, the game operated at an end-to-end tempo that would delight any neutral. But it was Pillars who had the initiative in the earlier exchanges. In the 14th minute, a defensive blunder by Abdulbasit Shittu let Nwagua in. He had only the keeper to beat but missed target. Pillars were dictating the pace with Ikenna Paul Hillary, Nzube Anaezemba and Rabiu Ali running the show in the middle of the park. Rabiu let fly a free-kick in the 18th minute which Ayeleso managed to get his hands on. Not wanting to lie down there while their guests lorded it over them, Nasarawa came out of their shell. Victor Okoro’s 20-yard effort missed target in the 19th minute. Nine minutes later, Emmanuel Makama hit a trademark free-kick into David Obiazo’s hands. Then in the 31st minute, Kabir Balogun’s well-struck effort from the edge of the box was few inches wide. Ikechukwu Nwani teed up Balogun in the 40th minute but his effort from inside the box wasn’t way off. READ MORE: http://npfl.ng/nasarawa-united-kano-pillars-in-a-thrilling-goalless-draw/

Osita Chikere’s first half goal was enough to secure Rivers United a lone goal victory over champions Plateau United in a tempestuous Matchday 22 clash in Port Harcourt on Sunday. Chikere headed home Bernard Ovoke’s free kick in the 16th minute in what turned out to be the match winner in a game which saw one player from both sides sent off late in the first half. Chigozie Ihunda, making a rare start for Rivers United was dismissed alongside Plateau’s Emma Igho James after a prolonged altercation between players of both sides in first half stoppage time. Plateau United were dealt a huge blow just before kickoff when star striker Tosin Omoyele who was held back by the team from his international duties with Nigeria’s Super Eagles B was refused permission to feature with United by national team selectors. Plateau coach Kennedy Boboye drafted in Ibeh Johnson for the striker. The hosts made five changes to the side which drew at El-Kanemi in midweek. Goalkeeper Emeka Nwabulu retained his place but captain Festus Austine replaced Gabriel Olalekan to partner with Samson Gbadebo while Ali Chiwedu was at left back in place of Zoumana Doumbia. Stanley Eguma’s United are without a win in their last three games against Plateau and they showed real intent towards ending that run early in the game. Bernard Ovoke who is now enjoying a fresh run-in with the team got his head onto an Emeka Ogbugh’s cross but it flashed just wide in the fifth minute. They continued to dominate proceedings early on and playmaker Salefu Ochowechi twice came close to opening the scores; flashing a long range effort wide before shooting straight at former Sharks goalkeeper Okiemute Odah in the Plateau goal. Niger Tornadoes shot up to second place on the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) log with a slim win over MFM on Sunday at the Bako Kontagora Stadium in Minna. The Matchday 19 fixture didn’t exactly set anything on fire but there were enough flakes for one to feast on from a sporting perspective. Tornadoes looked a different side with Abara making a raft of changes to his line-up but that didn’t stop them from winning the game as they were able to get one over MFM. In a game of few chances, here are four things we took away from the game that saw Niger Tornadoes extend the unbeaten in the league to nine games. Abara knows how to blood them in Niger Tornadoes coach Hamza Abara has proven once again to be a grassroots man and scouting expert by unearthing a new wave of players for the ‘Ikon Allah.’ Abara, who recently won the League Bloggers Awards (LBA), has spent most of his career in grassroots football and he showed he still has it as he scouted the rookie Moses Ugwu, Yahaya Yusuf and Abubakar Ndayebo who scored Tornadoes only goal of the game albeit from the spot. His ability to blood the youngsters in so early and give them responsibilities within the team has reinforced his stance on giving younger and unknown players a chance to crack it at the big time. Ndayebo, Ugwu and Yusuf, who all started against MFM showed they could mix it with the big boys there justifying Abara’s confidence in them. MFM need another Odey The Olukoya Boys shocked a lot with their beautiful football and scintillating goals last season as coach Fidelis Ilechukwu became the darling of fans across the country. However, this season seems to be a little bit different as they have found goal-scoring hard to come by. Against Niger Tornadoes, MFM didn’t create anything of substance in attack save for Abdullahi Suleiman’s horrible miss when one-on-one with Tornadoes goalkeeper Aliko Mustapha. With Odey’s departure to Switzerland and Sikiru Olatunbosun’s head all over the place, goals haven’t been easy to come by for the Lagos side. They’ve now failed to score in consecutive games (vs Rangers and Tornadoes) and with Jesse Akila gone, his troubles just went up another notch. Surely Ilechukwu will be scratching his head on how to get them firing again to replicate last season’s form. Odey’s goals were instrumental to MFM’s incredible run last season and if they are to get anywhere near the top of the table, they certainly need another ‘Odey.’ Read More at: http://npfl.ng/four-takeaways-from-niger-tornadoes-vs-mfm/

VAT Wonder Goal: Olatunbosun, Ifeanyi and Go Round’s Nwachukwu listed for Matchday 18 Cable Network News (CNN) Wonder Goal of the Month of February 2017, Sikiru Olatunbosun leads the three man cast of Ifeanyi Ifeanyi of Akwa United and Chidi Nwachukwu of Go Round FC for the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Matchday 18 VAT Wonder Goal Awards shortlists. For Nwachukwu’s goal, spirited repel of his side’s effort at goal saw the ball bumbling around the defensive box until a measured pull out from the right side of Kwara United defense fell kindly to Nwachukwu who hit a low volley to the far end of the post. Ifeanyi ifeanyi has since established a reputation for scoring from free kicks dating back to his seasons at Lagos side, MFM Fc and on Sunday, April 22, he saw another opportunity to make hay. Taking short steps back from the ball, some 25 yards from the goal post, Ifeanyi curled the ball expertly beyond the Sunshine Stars defensive wall. It rested softly at the high end of the left corner, gently pushing the net up and falling. The third goal on the shortlist came off a counter offensive at the Agege Stadium. Monsuru Olawale Bashiru had pried the ball off a Rivers United player, pushed it to diminutive Chukwuka Onuwa who side-stepped his marker and deftly toed the ball towards Olatunbosun. He paced forward to near the 18 yard box before unleashing a grounder that beat veteran goalkeeper, Rotimi Sunday to arouse cheers from appreciative fans. Junior Lokosa’s brace on Sunday guided Kano Pillars to a 2-0 win over Heartland in a Matchday 19 tie of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) decided at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano. The goals by the forward were his 15th and 16th strikes of the season as he further pulled clear of the chasing pack in the goalscorers’ leaderboard. Lokosa scored a goal in each half with his first in the 14th minute off a pass from Auwalu Ali which he tapped in from close range to beat Ebele Obi in goal for Heartland. He was on song again in the 47th minute of the encounter as he registered his second goal of the day off a Rabiu Ali pass in a spectacular way. This time Lokosa squeezed the ball in between the legs of Heartland goalkeeper Obi. Though Heartland lost the game, goalkeeper Obi stood out and it was his saves that ensured that the scoreline did not turn into an embarrassment for the Owerri-based club. Obi denied Rabiu Ali and Nzube Anaezemba from registering their names on the scoresheet. The Heartland goalkeeper dived full length to keep out the ball from his goal in the 24th and 35th minutes respectively. Anaezemba lost another golden chance in the 38th minute of the game when he had an empty net at his mercy after Obi was displaced but his weak shot from close range went off target. Rangers have lost more footing in their quest to close up the gap on the league frontrunners after they were held for the second straight game at home by MFM on Thursday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in a NPFL Matchday 13 rescheduled match. The Flying Antelopes made amends for the home draw with Kwara United, claiming an away draw at FC Ifeanyiubah in Nnewi last weekend and they were expected to pick the maximum points against the Olukoya Boys who have been poor travellers since the league season began. Rangers dominated the early part of the game but poor marksmanship and impatience caused them scoring opportunities and they were made to rue their lack of cutting edge as the Olukoya Boys held on stoutly to record their first away point of the season. Gbenga Ogunbote made three changes to the team that started against FC Ifeanyiubah with two players: Okey Odita and Tope Olusesi forced to sit out due to card accumulations and they were replaced by Semiu Liadi and Chidera Eze respectively while Ifeanyi George was preferred ahead of Ajani Ibrahim who was on the bench. MFM head coach, Fidelis Ilechukwu effected two changes to his previous starting 11. Peter Ubakanma dropped entirely from the fixture and was replaced by Adebayo Waheed while Jonathan Zikiye beefed up the team’s defence. Second half goals from Joseph Osadiaye and Abdulrahman Bashir helped Enyimba to a two-nil win against visiting Go Round FC of Omoku in a rescheduled NPFL fixture played at the UJ Esuene Stadium on Wednesday. The seven-time champions were hoping to build on their current form, having gone seven games without losing in all competitions. In contrast the visitors were languishing in the drop zone. The home side got the game to a flying start in the 15th minute, and almost went ahead, after Andrew Abalogu’s brilliant flick, drifted towards Osadiaye, who shot straight at goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali. Five minutes later, the visitors almost stunned the home team when Chinedu Udeh’s 20-yard free kick rattled the underside of the woodwork in what would have been a blistering opener. Nwabali was on hand again to frustrate another excellent move by the home side on 26 minutes. With three minutes to the break, Go Round thought they had gone in front, when Okon Otop was sent clear, but the striker could only manage to hit the side of the net from six yards. Five minutes after the restart, Stephen Chukwude spurned a glorious opportunity to put his side ahead after capitalizing on a defensive slip, but could not make it count, despite having only the goalkeeper to beat. The home side would not wait longer for the breakthrough, as Osadiaye raced past his marker to head Enyimba in front on 51 minutes. Ayo Saka scored in the 81st minute as league leaders Lobi Stars defeated Kano Pillars 1-0 in a Matchday 18 tie at the Aper Aku Stadium, Makurdi. Here are five talking points… (1) Lobi is serious Plateau United started this way last season. Lobi should be taken seriously now. They have won two away matches and have found a way to squeeze out results from such difficult games against title rivals. Last season, they may not have picked maximum points in such a game. But this just means that they are ready for the task ahead. (2) No argument about who is the best left back in the league Such performances highlight Ebube Duru’s qualities. He was simply unplayable. In one instance in the 63rd minute, he slid in to break Pillars counterattack and in one breath burst into Pillars box. He was busy all evening trying to lift his team. Fittingly, he delivered the cross that led to the match winner. Read More http://npfl.ng/five-talking-points-as-kano-pillars-fall-to-lobi/

Tosin Omoyele scored with virtually the last kick of the game to earn Plateau United a 1-1 draw at struggling Heartland in a Matchday 18 game decided at the Dan Anyiam Stadium in Owerri on Monday. The hosts looked to be running away with the maximum points courtesy of Abidoun Thompson’s well worked 21st minute goal but with the last minute of stoppage time being played, Omoyele was on hand to graciously tap home after the ball came back off the woodwork. Monday’s game was moved by 24 hours after United failed to arrive on time from their CAF Confederation Cup disaster at USMA in Algeria with coach Kennedy Boboye further changing five players from that lineup. Heartland were playing for the first time under their new Turkish trainer Mehmet Tayfun and they made four changes to the side that lost to El-Kanemi in Maiduguri with Thompson and youngster Onwuebuchi Chinmakpa handed starting berths. Both players combined for the game’s curtain raiser although the sweet move was started by Moses Akinade who held off the combative Elisha Golbe before feeding Chimankpa inside the box. The youngster then squared for Thompson who had the simple task of tapping into an empty net. There were hardly any further clear cut opportunities again in the first half as both teams resorted to a battle of long throws between United’s specialist Daniel Itodo and Heartland left back Chukwudi Oparaugo. The battle of attrition continued in the second half and both teams continued in their struggle to get a real chance of scoring as the game grew jerky and feisty. There were a couple of chances for both sides though with 15 minutes before the end. Read more http://npfl.ng/plateau-united-striker-omoyele-shatters-heartless-heartland-in-owerri/

Super Eagles goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa was impressive in helping Enyimba claim a point at Wikki Tourists in Sunday’s match that finished scoreless in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL). Enyimba held Wikki at bay in a largely lacklustre affair that petered out in the second period, with neither side doing enough to grab the maximum points. Paul Aigbogun made a number of changes to the side that drew, also goalless, against Bidvest Wits in the CAF Confederation Cup in midweek. Ernest Governor was on from the start, and Ezenwa returned to the team after a brief spell out through injury, meaning Ghanaian goalkeeper Fatau Dauda who has featured in most of the games in all competitions got a place on the bench. Wikki’s startlist had a strong field of experienced campaigners in Nafiu Kabuga, Shammah Tanze, Bala Zakka, Peter Ambrose, Abdullahi Musa and goalkeeper Ibrahim Pius. The hosts started the brighter, and set the tone for the rest of the encounter, seeing more of the ball and seeking to take the game to the two-time African champions. Samuel Kalu drew a fine save from Ezenwa, as his free kick arrowed toward the top corner. Tanze then went through on goal after some miscommunication in the Enyimba backline, but was unable to outwit Ezenwa, who was mammoth coming off his line. Lobi Stars made a statement of intent with a 1-0 defeat of Kano Pillars at the Aper Aku Stadium, Makurdi in Sunday’s NPFL top-of-the-pile match. Ayo Saka’s 80th minute strike was all Lobi needed to consolidate at the top of the log. It was the matchday’s top fixture with a star cast as both teams fielded potent strike partnerships. Lobi paraded an attacking combo of Anthony Okpotu and Samad Kadiri while Pillars had Nyima Nwagua and Junior Lokosa in attack. On paper, it promised an end-to-end stuff and that was what exchanges looked like most of the time. In the 2nd minute, Ebube Duru curled a free-kick inches wide. Then in the 15th minute, Pillars right back Victor Dennis was on hand to thwart a Lobi foray. His last ditch clearance went out for a corner. Five minutes later, Okpotu flicked on to Kadiri but just as the club’s leading scorer was about pulling the trigger, the assistant referee flagged offside. It will be a full schedule of fixtures for the first in four matchdays and it comes with a top-three clash between table-toppers Lobi Stars and Kano Pillars in third place. The game will hold at the Aper Aku Stadium this Sunday and is live on NTA. This will be the 27th meeting between Lobi And Kano Pillars in the last 15 years. Pillars have won 12 of the previous 26 meetings, four better than Lobi’s win while the other six matches have ended in draws. However the Kano club have only avoided defeat five times in their 13 travels to Lobi including a 1-0 win in May 2004. This season, things have changed a bit in the playing personnel of Lobi under Solomon Ogbeide with Samad Kadiri and Austine Ogunye carrying for the can for goalscoring unlike last term when it was Anthony Okpotu and Kingsley Eduwo. Samad and Ogunye have scored a combined 10 goals. The 10 goals by the Lobi striking pair is four less than Junior Lokosa, who is the league’s top scorer on 14 goals. The lethal Lokosa has scored four of those goals on the road – the most away goals by any individual this season. So the Kano Pillars will always be a threat to the back-four of Lobi. Lokosa’s strike partner Nyima Nwagua who joined from Lobi is also on hand to make his mark though he has had an underwhelming start to the campaign so far scoring twice while midfielder Alassan Ibrahim now regarded as heir-apparent to playmaker Rabiu Ali has stepped in with four goals and three assists. The Lobi versus Kano Pillars game is not be short of big-name players in the country, and should offer an eye-catching contest.
