Indeed. Can we assume the 'Syrian' wave (Canada admitted 2,500 Syrians refugees into the country last year) is having a ripple effect on student migrants?

Don't think so Canada is big enough plus the way Asians and Indians flock into this country like they don't pass thru the application I only have 2 Canadians in my class rest are Indians and Asians

HI everyone
I really don't know what's happening with Canada student visa.. the denial rate is alarming 3 of my friends were denied after submitting a strong application with all fees paid and a robust bank account, good travling histories, sponsor are parents, programs intended are related to undergraduate course, and I also noticed from the intake of international students I mentored at school for January intake Nigerians weren't much unlike the previous years should we be concerned? We used to be 3rd highest behind Asians and Indians in class population

Hi Guys,
Here is my travel experience...
It was pretty normal. I flew United, Lagos-Houston-Toronto-Halifax. It was pretty okay, nothing spectacular. They mice milk -_-. But the flights were pretty smooth except that my Houston-Toronto flight got delayed for an hour which affected my other flight to Halifax.

Immigration:
Officer: Hi, How long are you staying for?
Me: 2yrs, I'm here for school
Officer: do you have any foodstuff in your baggage?
Me: yes, I have garri and beans
Officer: how much do you have with you?
Me: $*
Officer: go this way and then that way to for inspection.

POE experience:
Nothing much happened here, the conversation went thus:
Officer: hello there
Me: hi
Officer: *typing and staring at his monitor* so you're going to MSVU?
Me: yes
Officer: *after 2 mins* here's your study permit, this let's you work off-campus. Make sure your get your SIN whenever you're free.

After that, I went for inspection and had to fill a form where I had to declare money. Formed convo with him so there was no actual inspection

**they never searched my luggages

Highlight of the trip:
Running to the gate of my last flight after checking in again while they kept announcing my name for the whole world to hear. (I was the last person to get on the plane, this was 10mins to take-off) quite dramatic

Halifax is great, everyone has been smiling since I got here, it's so weird. @ettti and other Halifax people, get in here quick
Goodnight NLders

welcome to Canada ma'am

The wait was really killing, i don't ever pray to experience this kind of mental torture again, but it was definitely worth the wait. As per the test, i don't know whether na IOM do oversabi, or it's really cic that requested it.

I did mine at IOM also but it cic that do request for further test not the clinic

It’s a long story, please it’s worth the read.
I have been on this thread since part 7, and don’t go a day without reading posts here. Thanks to you guys for keeping things going on here, and from now I will try my best in helping people out, as I have enough experience to. This is my story guys.

School: Lambton College, Sarnia.
Course: International business management (PGD)
Applied on: 10th June, 2015.
Biometrics: 10th June, 2015.
Medical call up: 7th August, 2015.
Medical started: 13th August, 2015.
Medical completed: 19th August, 2015.
Approval Mail: 1st September, 2015.

Documents submitted
1. CIC Documents.
2. Sponsor (Dad) statement of account (Business): Balance= #4million, Inflow= #103million, Outflow= #99million.
3. Tuition fee receipt: 1st semester
4. Business documents, tax certificate, Land and assets.
5. Future employment letter as heir to the company.
6. S.O.P (3 pages), letter of sponsor, Birth certificate, NYSC certificate, B.sc Certificate.
• I took a big risk of not submitting police report, as I saw it as optional.
• I am the last child and my dad’s only dependant.

Important tips
For anyone called up for medical please;
• take your time out to check your blood pressure before going.
• make sure you relax and calm down your nerves when you get there, you can try out deep breathing techniques for calming down.
• Avoid salty foods and other food that increases blood pressure few days to medicals.

When I was having my medicals my BP was high (149mmhg 97mmhg) because I was very nervous, so after the whole test, I was told to come for further tests which include serum, ECG and cardio checks. To avoid unnecessary stress, hypertension and cost, its better you try and control your anxiety level. You won’t like to experience what I went through till when I got this approval mail.

NOTE: the acceptable blood pressure readings for Canadian standard is >140mmhg (systolic) >90mmhg (diastolic).
Never give up on your dreams, and remember with God and prayers all things are possible. I wish everyone all the best.

congrats bro... you see the thing about BP it can go up within seconds but takes awhile to suppres.... waiting 3months for ur app to get approved that's alot of pressure to rise the BP.. My BP was160/100 and no further tests were required though.. but congratulations once again

Wow, that sure sounds like a breakthrough. I'm about submitting my application but my undergraduate transcript isn't ready and I want to go ahead and submit with my student copy of transcript. Fingers crossed....or should I include a cover note stating how slow my school responds to transcript requests?

I applied with my student copy

I want to assume they are applying to Canadian Schools.

Hope their CGPAs (or most times their GPA in the last two semesters) are at least above 4.0? (For some courses that require GRE, a good GRE score wouldn't hurt at all.) If yes, then they should package a personalised, passionate and knowledge-based SOP in their application. By knowledge-based, I mean they should show they have at least basic knowledge of their intended courses, especially if they are going for Masters. They can refer to their undergraduate research project, talk about achievements in relation to the field etc.

But before application, they can mail the advisors for their respective departments in their schools to know about the availability and their chances at getting funding. They can also contact specific lecturers in their intended department that their research areas interest them for advice and even, funding aid.

Some schools automatically consider you for some scholarships as you apply for admission while some scholarships are specific to some courses with special requirements and must be applied for separately.

But first, they must be well-informed before starting to write that mind-blowing SOP.

they are both academically sound and they have 4.0 in their last 2 years also they were top 5 best graduating students with best projects One in computer science and the other microbiology One Will be doing GRE while the other won't both have work experience

thanks alot for the info will start from here

First, it is not a foolish question. I believe all scholarships aid funding. ..

Is this for someone that's just applying to a school abroad or someone that's already there but believes he/she should have gotten funding? Can you be specific?

'Cos I believe you're in Canny already going by your posts here. Cheers!

for someone just applying for a school they are still in Nigeria

they don't have the funds atall

they hoping to get full scholarships

and yes am in Canada already just that I didn't come thru scholarship

please dear I got my acceptance letter for winter semester (Conestoga college) yesterday and want to apply for TRV asap . so I will be glad to know if Paper route will be better, if yes, where should I submit it? I reside in Abuja. also must driver's license be included as I have got non. I'm also scared that they might suspect my account as it is roughly 5 months I opened the account but close to 8million naira has crossed the account. thank you in anticipation for your kind advise.

congrats on ur acceptance ... first u can go via paper or online if u ain't too familiar with IT skills then go paper.. if u are to go paper u can submit either in Lagos or Abj and u don't need a drivers license.. As for ur account depends on the bank i know on UBA's statement the time u started operating the account will appear on it donno about other banks.

does the account have good flow ever since u opened it ? if it has good flow start printing after the date the money drooped in the account. what is the closing balance ?

A friend just received his TRV, his program is to start by January 2016, what is the earliest possible time for him to travel? Can he travel by next month?

he should travel close to resumption.. he would be asked at the POE why he's coming in so early and his study/work permit might be held onto + the weather would be crazy around oct-jan.. let him come in December

Is it compulsory to pay your tuition before you're allowed entry into Canada?

Has anyone here scaled through?

at the POE a Ghanaian guy had a lil though time with the immigration officer cos he didn't pay tuition deposit but he was able to prove the school asked them to pay on arrival

How can one get into canada with a year TRV and later go on to do a 2 year program?

Advise needed please..

i usually prefer people come in with 1 year TRV the VO would only sum up ur expenses for one year

when you get here go to the School's international department change ur program to a 2 years program and another admission letter would be issued to you. keep it when u wanna apply for study permit extension present it.

that what all my roommates did and they are done with their 2years waiting on their 3years PGWP

u can extend ur study permit easily here just like Wat the immigration officer told me at the POE he said I still have 4 months to decide if "I wanna change my status i can always extend my study permit"
