2dugged: do you also know that in some tribes, women are not allowed to return back to their fathers house after marriage?, do you also know that society tends to shame a woman who leaves her husband for what ever reason?,it's not about being independent, down here, most women are the bread winners of their family, but end up putting up with nasty husbands because cult/religion has made it seem like husband is the crown of a woman, another reason why you see people quick to shame unmarried ladies as if it's a medal, and when one decides to speak against it,she is tagged a feminist I am someone who has never cheated on his partner and will never cheat, I'm even very cute yet well behaved just like father, who taught me self discipline, but my problem is I have not seen a girl to love me. Christianity Etc › Re: Who Are The Yoruba Gods and other traditional deities? Are They Really Evil?? by Kenshinmunac(op): 5:47pm On Oct 12, 2016 |
kjhova: Dear @kenshinmunac,
Your interest encourages me that hope still remains for our cultures and history as Africans. Please read below my fair summary of Yoruba religion (or the Ifa corpus) and please bear in mind that one man's views can never wholly represent a subject as deep as Ifa.
In unknown time, the progenitors of the people we now refer to as Yoruba formed the concept of a sky god, "Olorun" (Lord of Heaven) who is worshipped with "kori", a string of hard palm nut shells. Olorun is acknowledged as a mono god with no pair in the cosmos. With time, as the religion evolved and as Olorun is regarded as a pair less being, the existence of many intermediary gods was admitted and these were termed "Orisas". The concept of orisa is basically hero worship and many orisas were great kings, warriors or administrators who were deified on their death.
With time, worship was directed to orisas to be conveyed to Olorun and the kori seized to be a symbol of worship and faded from memory to be replaced by several commonplace items like the "opele", palm oil, cowrie currency etc. By the end of the 18th century, the many orisas in existence had become specialized to various aspects of life e.g. Orisa n'la or Obatala (Creation), Ori (fate), Sango (thunder), Ogun (war/metallurgy), Esu (messenger/judgement), Sopona (Small pox or all diseases generally) etc.
Around the time before the Yoruba civil war broke out, newer concepts or innovations were added which include the "Egugun", "Adamuorisa" or "Gelede" (veneration of the spirit of the dead), Oro (executor) and Ifa (divination) amongst others.
I have given you as much summary of the development of the Yoruba religion as this post can allow without becoming a bore. However, bear in mind that there were multitude of cities, states and towns that comprise what we refer to today in the singular form of "Yoruba" and in time past, these people were not always one. Therefore, not all the orisas and "irumoles" were universally known or recognized. E.g. Oro was a mainly Ijebu and Egba activity, the Gelede was mostly Ondo and Awori while Ifa was accepted by all. None of these deities or spirit beings were regarded as evil and the "blood sucking, murderous and evil...who...put Skelton skulls in shrine...people conclude all of them are evil" as you stated in your post is only due to the misrepresentation by Muslims, Christians and the mendacious Nollywood of today.
In the Yoruba concept, Olorun is mysterious and he has the capacity to do both good and evil. Man can only approach him by divination (Ifa), libation (orisas) and morality (olu iwa bi). The Yoruba religion believes in life-after-death and promotes theories like; judgement, future state and transmigration of souls (that is the return of the dead back to life in the form of a new birth).
For short, the Yoruba were not a brutish people worshiping demons as you may hear today. They were an ardent people with a sophisticated religion which fell victim to Christian/Islamic propaganda. Wow thank you very much for this piece and yes not to worry, Africa is on the verge of becoming great once again as many blacks are awakening and tracing back to their roots, realizing we have been played by xianity propaganda, Back to the topic. Something still confuses me. Who is this olorun exactly? Is it the sky daddy of the Christians in Yoruba? Or he is a separate powerful god on his own And who exactly is sango, orishez are they Gods under olorun? Is olorun the head of all dietIes in Yoruba? And also do you mean to say now that all the Yoruba traditions have been corrupted by Christianity and thus now there is no true place for one to visit like a shrine to communicate directly with the true Gods here in Nigeria? Sorry for much questions it's really important because this information is critical to the black race in tracing back to our ancestors and the true Gods. |

Education › Re: My Experience As An Undergraduate: Freshers Take Note by Kenshinmunac(m): 11:55am On Oct 12, 2016 |
omosefeeguaibor: Hello! Nlanders, i feel I should share one of my greatest experience while I was in school as regards academic.
4years ago, I got the best news of my life when I was told I've been admitted into the university of my choice, I was so happy that I was carried away with the joy of being an undergraduate. I got advice from family and folks alike, but little did I know I was going to a world of absolute independence, where no one was going to ask you why or not you don't come for classes.
Indeed to an extent I can say I'm a B+ student, and with that thought I was good to go, I really was not so carried away with life on campus, I had fun when I ought to, and also studied when I should.
Fast forward to first semester exam, I did my best with the thought that at the end of my 1st semester exams my department was going to keep my results. As soon as first semester result was pasted on the board, I checked mine it was an ok grade told myself there was still room to do better. little did I know that I was suppose to get a good book, where I ought to record all these results that were pasted on the board, and I was nonchalant about it, until I got to my final year, there and then I noticed that all my results have been posted online, from year 1 to 4 in my academic account. And it was absolutely different from what I have been seeing with my eyes. I tried to rectify this error, and I was told to bring all the grades I have seen on the board, which was absolutely impossible because I did not have it on record, secondly, university is not like secondary school, where your subject teacher has that time to start looking for your results. The final grading I had online was a far cry from what I aimed for, it took lot of letters, and knocking from one lecturer's door, to another to get my accurate details, which was a herculean task. I was in school for months, when most of my colleagues were basking in the euphoria of being a graduate.
But at the end of it all and with God on by side my results were rectified, my HOD had to open my details from first year and it was discovered that there was a mistake while updating my results online.
In summary to all I've said, I would implore fresh students coming in, to have a book to write down details of your results. Nobody told me this, but experience taught me in the hardest of way. Thank God it wasn't worse and I'm smiling over it today. Thanks a lot of. I will actually snap the pictures of my grade and then print them out then write the grades out too, keep the snapped ones somewhere safe online and written ones kept well. Thanks for the heads up! |

patriotic9jaboy: Suleman can only deceive his gullible flock of followers. Why travel to liberia when we have thousands of blinds and crippled Nigerians waiting for healing? Even those who represented Nigeria at the paralympic games can't wait to be healed. Fake staged healings and miracles is the bane of modern Christianity.
How come Suleman and TB Joshua can't heal Popular people like Yinka Ayefele and the Blind Cobhams so we can know their god is real?

It's better to focus on one lucrative niche and dominate that niche. then you can add others or work on others as you deem fit. I have passion for Art blog. But I'm scared it won't be very lucrative so I was thinking of adding other sub sections while focussing on my art blog there will be other things visitors can also see in d blog. How u look am? |
