Politics › Jobs Losses, 90m In Extreme Poverty, Your Only ‘achievements,’ Atiku Tells Buhar by KEVIND(op): 7:20am On Jan 02, 2019
Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Atiku Abubakar has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of having nothing to show for steering the ship of the nation for about four years. He said 90 million Nigerians live in extreme poverty under his watch.
Atiku took on the President over his remarks at the kick-off of his presidential campaign in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, on December 28, where he declared that he had fulfilled his promises to Nigerians.
The former vice president, reminded the President that a day before he made the declaration, it was revealed that the number of Nigerians living in extreme poverty had increased from 87 million to 90 million in just four months.
In a statement yesterday by his media adviser, Mr. Paul Ibe, the PDP presidential candidate said going by rising poverty rate, the whole country will be in extreme poverty if Nigerians make the mistake of re-electing Buhari.
The statement said: “Except the President made a vow to impoverish Nigerians, it is hard to see how he could have fulfilled his promises with such pervasive poverty and hunger in the land.
“This is even as the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics revealed a week to the President’s unfortunate statement that unemployment had doubled from the 14 per cent he met it in May 2015 to 23.1 per cent in December of 2018.
“But the most blatant insult from the President was his assertion at Uyo that ‘we have defeated Boko Haram’. It was most insensitive of the President to have said such on a day that foreign and domestic media reported the entrapment of our gallant troops by Boko Haram/ISWAP in Baga, with as many as 700 hundred reported missing.
“Even more indicting is the statement from the US based International Strategic Studies Association, which revealed that the Boko Haram insurgency was lingering due to the massive corruption around President Muhammadu Buhari.
“How would those soldiers feel, how would their families feel, how would their colleagues in the barracks feel when they are facing a life and death situation and their commander-in-chief is impervious to reality?”
“And, for the umpteenth time, we call on President Muhammadu Buhari to come clean on the faceless people behind Keystone Bank and Etisalat. Nigerians deserve to know how people who used to beg for N2000 transport money, as revealed by Buhari’s right hand man, Buba Galadima, are now suddenly wealthy enough to acquire multi billion dollar investments.
“Finally, we cannot wait for the presidential debate where Atiku Abubakar will talk about his plans to reduce the unemployment rate from 23.1 per cent under Buhari to single digits, because Atiku means

Jobs losses, 90m in extreme poverty, your only ‘achievements,’ Atiku tells Buhari.

ABUJA- Ahead of the 2019 elections, Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has lampooned the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government , saying under its watch, the nation has witnessed massive job losses while 90 million Nigerians are living in extreme poverty.
President Muhammadu Buhari and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar

Atiku also faulted the President for claiming to have delivered on his campaign promises recently at a zonal rally in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom state capital.
In a statement signed by his media assistant, Paul Ibe and made available to journalists, the former Vice President claimed that contrary to the President’s optimism, that poverty has indeed grown worse in the past four months.

“Ironically, a day before the President made that statement, it was revealed that the number of Nigerians living in extreme poverty had increased from 87 million to 90 million in just 4 months. Going by that sharp rate of increase, the whole country will be in extreme poverty if Nigerians make the mistake of re-electing Buhari,’ he said.

According to the PDP flag bearer, “except the President made a vow to impoverish Nigerians, it is hard to see how he could have fulfilled his promises with such pervasive poverty and hunger in the land.
“This is even as the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics, NBS, revealed a week to the President’s unfortunate statement that unemployment had doubled from the 14% he met it in May 2015 to 23.1% in December of 2018.”

Atiku also urged President Buhari to admit his helplessness in the fight against insurgency, noting that his claim that the Boko Haram fundamentalist sect remain defeated, is not only absurd but unfortunate.

“The most blatant insult from the President was his assertion at Uyo that ‘We have defeated Boko Haram.’ It was most insensitive of the President to have said such on a day that foreign and domestic media reported the entrapment of our gallant troops by Boko Haram/Islamic Militants in West Africa Province, ISWAP in Baga, with as much as 700 hundred reported missing.

“Even more indicting is the statement from the US based International Strategic Studies Association, which revealed that the Boko Haram insurgency was lingering due to the massive corruption around President Muhammadu Buhari.

“How would those soldiers feel, how would their families feel, how would their colleagues in the barracks feel when they are facing a life and death situation and their Commander-in-Chief is impervious to reality?” the statement added.

Politics › Re: APC Youth Leaders Fault Composition Of Presidential Campaign C’ttee by KEVIND(op): 4:28pm On Dec 29, 2018
KEVIND:
A forum of Zonal and State Youth Leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC has kicked against the list of Presidential Campaign Council released by the presidency on Friday, describing it as discriminatory.

The forum in its preliminary reaction said in spite of the sacrifices of its longsuffering members for the successes of the party, the APC-led administration has continued to denigrate its youth wing.

The statement signed by the North-central youth leader of the party, Comrade Terver Aginde, on behalf of all the zonal and state youth leaders, threatened to mobilize APC youths to fight what he described as injustice against the youth wing of the ruling party.

“We the zonal youths and states youth leaders of the All Progressive Congress (APC), after carefully studying the presidential campaign committee list, we are saying that the list has no interest of the youth wing of the party at heart and we will not accept anything short of totally been in charge of the Youth Directorate from the National, Zonal and State levels of the party.

“We have made sacrifices and shown commitment to the party and we deserve a good deal. We are ready to mobilize ourselves to fight against this injustice and exclusiveness if nothing is done quickly.

“We constitute the highest percentage of the voting strength, if all the zonal women leaders will be included in the campaign team, we see no reason why the youth leaders should not be included”, he added.

Politics › Newly Displaced Fleeing Attacks In North-east Nigeria Top 2,000 – UN by KEVIND(op): 11:45am On Dec 28, 2018
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) says escalating attacks by non-state armed groups suspected to be Boko Haram are triggering new displacements in North-east Nigeria, especially Borno.

OCHA said more than 2,000 newly displaced people had recently arrived in Teacher’s Village camp in Maiduguri, after fleeing attacks by non-state armed groups as well as clashes between armed groups and the military in Kukawa, Kauwa, Doro Baga, Kekeno and Bunduram near Lake Chad.

The latest influx, which started in late November, has brought additional pressure on already stretched facilities in the camp, OCHA said.

According to reports, the National Emergency Management Agency officially registered over 2,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) in just 24 hours.

OCHA said humanitarian organisations were supporting the Nigerian government-led response in providing life-saving support, including food, non-food items, shelter and healthcare services.

Hundreds of people fleeing conflict have also arrived in Monguno reception centre, in Borno, with already overstretched resources, the UN relief agency said.

Humanitarian organisations provided shelters, relief kits, and water and sanitation, OCHA said.

OCHA said in both locations, the authorities and humanitarian partners were currently mobilising critical resources including food, shelters and medical supplies to assist the new arrivals.

More than seven million people in northeast Nigeria require humanitarian assistance and protection, including 1.8 million internally displaced people.

The 2018 Humanitarian Response Plan for Nigeria requests $1.05 billion to assist 6.2 million people and is currently 66 per cent funded. (NAN)

Politics › Miyetti Allah: We’ll Mobilise 20m Votes For Buhari In 2019 by KEVIND(op): 8:27am On Dec 28, 2018
The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), a Fulani socio-cultural group, has endorsed President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election bid and pledged to mobilise 20 million votes for him in the 2019 presidential election. National President of the association, Alhaji Muhammadu Kirowa, made the declaration, yesterday, at the 2018 Annual General Meeting of MACBAN, held at the International Women Development Centre in Abuja.

“We represent over 20 million members across the country, here in attendance we have over 2,000 people who have come from all corners of the country. We have representatives from each local government, and you heard their views, they have declared their interest in Muhammadu Buhari to move to the next level. This is a majority decision of the congress. We as leaders, we don’t have option other than to follow.

“MACBAN pledges its loyalty and support to President Buhari for his laudable efforts of uniting the country, infrastructural growth of the nation and transforming the economic life of citizens for posterity,” MACBAN declared. Kirowa explained that the group decided to unanimously endorse Buhari because of the numerous achievements recorded by his administration in the areas of infrastructural development, youth employment and security. Kirowa, who was addressing a gathering of over 2,000 members drawn from across Nigeria, said that since the inception of MACBAN, no administration has addressed the plight of the herdsmen the way Buhari has done within the past three and a half years. According to him, Buhari had made significant efforts towards reviving grazing reserves across the country, thereby impacting directly in the lives of their members.

“We appreciate government’s programmes of transforming the social lives of Nigerians through empowerments, agricultural development, particularly the livestock sub sector where pilot programmes of developing water and pasture in long neglected grazing reserves has commenced,” he said. National Secretary, MACBAN, Alhaji Baba Uthman Ngelzarma, however, appealed to members of the association to be law abiding, avoid frictions and utterances capable of causing chaos in the country. He urged the media to be conscious of their reportage which had the tendency to cause genocide, especially where herdsmen are described as killers and unwanted citizens even when, according to him, they were victims of bigotry and xenophobic attacks. “MACBAN frowns at the sensational and negative stereotyping of herders who are doing legitimate economic activity that contribute to the gross domestic product of the country and ensuring food security,” he said.

Ngelzarma said that the association would continue to collaborate with the security agencies in fishing out bad eggs within Fulani, saying “as a credible organization, we do not and will not condone criminality in whatever form by our members.” He, therefore, declared the support of MACBAN to the on-going anti-corruption crusade of Buhari in its totality, stating that corruption is the harbinger of all the tension and crisis facing the country. According to him, it is corruption that killed the livestock industry as well as other industries in Nigeria and gave rise to unemployment, low quality education, poor healthcare and high level of poverty in rural areas. Ngelzarma expressed optimism that the Federal Government Livestock Transformation Agenda as articulated, if implemented fully, would provide a solution to the recurring herders and farmers’ conflict.

Politics › 2019 Polls In Danger As New N/delta Militant Group Threatens by KEVIND(op): 9:35pm On Dec 26, 2018
Tony John, Port Harcourt

A new militant group, War Against Niger Delta Exploitation (WANDE), has sprung up and threatened to disrupt the 2019 elections, unless the government showed commitment to the development of the oil-rich region.

WANDE made the threat in a seven-point communique it released in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, signed by its spokesman, General Nomukeme.

Nomukeme stated that the reason for the emergence of the group was the continued act of perpetual enslavement of the people of the region by the Federal government, stressing that the people were being denied the right to have a share in their God-given resources.

He said that WANDE would garner support for President Muhammadu Buhari, if he could prove his administration’s commitment towards the development of the Niger Delta, by implementing its demands as contained in the statement.

“But failure to meet these demands simply translates to our commencement of hostilities. We will frustrate the conduct of the 2019 general elections across the country, if the following demands are handled with kid gloves.

“That the 53 Oil Mining Licences of Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), other multinationals and individuals who are non indigenes of the Niger Delta must not be renewed after their expiration in 2019, as we will no longer sit and watch our collective resources (being) stolen by strangers under the watchful eyes of the Federal government.

“That the Niger Deltans must be adequately compensated with the right to also own and operate at least 75 percent of Oil Prospecting Licences (OPL) and Oil Mining Licenses (OML).

“Our people must be given the first right of refusal as to whether they will like to own and operate the facilities or not.”

Politics › SSS Hands Over Aisha Buhari’s Orderly To Police For Allleged Fraud by KEVIND(op): 9:19pm On Dec 26, 2018
The State Security Service on Wednesday announced the transfer to the police of the orderly attached to Aisha Buhari to the police.

Sani Baba-Inna, a chief superintendent of police, served as aide de camp to the First Lady until he was arrested in September for allegedly using his office and Mrs Buhari’s name for influence peddling to the tune of N2.5 billion.

“He has been handed over to the police for further administrative action,” Peter Afunanya, a spokesperson for the SSS, said in a statement.

The SSS absolved Mrs Buhari from her aide’s alleged fraudulent activities.

“Investigation, however, disclosed that he was never, at any given time or circumstance, directly or indirectly, instructed, by the First Lady, to act or collect, in her name, money or material gifts from any person(s) or group(s),” it said.

The SSS said Mr Baba-Ina would now be disciplined by the police, after forwarding the outcome of its investigation into the alleged fraud.

Mr Afunanya did not categorically say whether or not the investigation uncovered suspected illicit funds with Mr Baba-Ina, or the precise amount.

PREMIUM TIMES learnt shortly after Mr Mr Baba-Ina’s arrest that the police had previously looked into the matter, but found nothing incriminating to hold against him, before the matter was later transferred to the SSS for further probe.

Mr Baba-Ina strongly denied all allegations of wrongdoing against him.

Politics › JUST IN: Riot In Zamfara Over Insecurity by KEVIND(op): 3:45pm On Dec 24, 2018
Residents of some parts of Zamfara State are currently protesting the insecurity in the state.

Hundreds of people have been killed by bandits in the North-west state in 2018. Many others have been kidnapped for ransom.

The protesters, mainly residents of Tsafe Local Government Area, on Monday morning barricaded the Gusau-Zaria highway linking the state to Kaduna, Kano, and Abuja.

An eyewitness told PREMIUM TIMES that the protesters destroyed political billboards of President Muhammadu Buhari and the state governor, Abdulaziz Yari.

The protests, which was populated by youth and women later degenerated into a full riot.

“The protesters began by blocking the highway and burning tyres, but as we speak, the local government secretariat in Tsafe is on fire,” the eyewitness, who declined to be named for security reasons, said.

Politics › Lai Mohammed Says APC Has Fulfilled All Promises To Nigerians by KEVIND(op): 10:48am On Dec 22, 2018
The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, yesterday in Abuja claimed that the government of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had fulfilled all the promises it made to Nigerians.

The minister who made this claim while answering questions from journalists in the State House, further argued that the government had met all its obligations to Nigerians.

Promising that the government is determined to do more in the New Year, Mohammed who said he had made the portrait of President Muhammadu Buhari in five different Nigerian cultures, wished everyone a Merry Christmas.

“I wish everybody Merry Christmas and as a government, we are happy that we have been able to meet all our promises, all our obligations to Nigerians. And as the year rolls out, we are more determined to even deliver more to Nigerians.

“I wish to use this opportunity to wish everybody merry Christmas and a happy new year.

“I made a portrait of Mr. President in five major Nigeria attires. One is in Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo, Efik and one in suit. It is reminiscent of the portrait we used during this campaign,” he said.

On fear that the National Assembly may shut down the 2019 budget following the hostilities against the president by lawmakers while presenting the Appropriation Bill on Wednesday, the minister said it was not in the tradition of the executive to trade words with the National Assembly.

Describing the National Assembly as an independent arm of government, Mohammed said the executive had done its part, leaving the rest for the federal legislature to also play its own role.

“It is not the practice of the executive to be exchanging words with the legislative arm of government. They are independent. We are independent but to the best of our knowledge, we presented a budget, given the circumstances of our resources this year. We feel that is the best we can. It is left for the National Assembly to consider it,” he submitted.

KEVIND:
The pan -Yoruba socio -political group , Afenifere , has denied endorsing President Muhammadu Buhari.

The group also accused All Progressives Congress chieftain , Asiwaju Bola Tinubu , of being behind the “ fake ” endorsement of Buhari.

A newspaper had reported on Friday that some Afenifere chieftains , led by Senator Ayo Fasanmi , endorsed Buhari at a gathering in Ibadan on Thursday .

Others who attended the gathering include Lagos APC chieftain , Prince Tajudeen Olusi ; a former Deputy Governor to Tinubu , Prince Biodun Ogunleye ; APC chieftain , Dr. Abayomi Fini and a former Governor of the old Oyo State , Omololu Olunloyo .

Speaking with our correspondent on Friday , however , the spokesman for Afenifere , Mr . Yinka Odumakin , said it was “unfortunate ” that Tinubu , who had discredited Afenifere , could organise such a charade .

He said most of the people at the gathering where Buhari was endorsed were strangers to the group .
Odumakin said the “renegade” group was only taking advantage of Senator Fasanmi who was advanced in age .

The Afenifere , Odumakin said , “That is a fake Afenifere group powered by Bola Ahmed Tinubu . If you look at the names of the people at that particular group , the only person that was once with us is Senator Fasanmi and we believe they are just using him .

“The masquerade behind this entire show is Bola Tinubu , who has plenty of money. Why is he hiding under Afenifere ? Haven’ t he and his people been disparaging Afenifere ? Why has Afenifere suddenly become attractive to them ?

“Let Tinubu come and meet us directly . Why is he hiding and using our name ?”
Odumakin said Afenifere had said many times that it would only be supporting a candidate who supports restructuring , especially true federalism.

He said the endorsement would be announced after a meeting with other socio - cultural groups such as Ohanaeze NdIgbo and the Northern Elders Forum .

The Afenifere spokesman said , “We are for restructuring . And when it is time to endorse a candidate , it will be a joint decision with Pan-Niger Delta Forum , Ohanaeze , Middle Belt Forum and the Northern Elders Forum. ”

Politics › US Congress Queries Harassment Of Atiku, Obi, Human Rights Lawyer by KEVIND(op): 9:42am On Dec 21, 2018
The subcommittee of the US Congress for Africa, Human Rights, Global Health and International Organizations has queried the US government on its responses to reports of repression of opponents by the government of Nigeria.

During the hearing on Nigeria entitled, “Nigeria at a Crossroads: The Upcoming Elections” held on December 13, 2018, the Chairman Representative Chris Smith cited reports in the Vanguard and PREMIUM TIMES pertaining to reported freezing of Gov Peter Obi’s bank accounts as well as a raid on VP Atiku’s sons. Both men are leading opposition challengers to General Buhari.

Specifically Chairman Chris Smith informed the top diplomat for Africa, Assistant Secretary of State Ambassador Tobir Nagy, that the subcommittee was in possession of a memo by the Nigerian embassy targeting a human rights lawyer for testifying before them. Concerned at the apparent repression of “opponents” of the Buhari regime, the Chairman asked the representative of the Trump administration whether the US government was engaged with Nigeria on these violations of citizens’ rights just for holding “contrary” views.

The Assistant Secretary of State for Africa responded that the US embassy in Nigeria was quite “concerned” and robustly engaged on such rights violations and election malpractice as just witnessed in Osun State and gave kudos to US ambassador Symmington whom he was impressed with during his recent visit to Nigeria last month.

Following the hearing, Washington-based Nigerian human rights lawyer Emmanuel Ogebe, who was the target of the Nigerian embassy referenced by the Chairman, submitted a letter to the State Department attaching the incriminating exhibit indicting the Nigerian embassy in Washington of attempting to subvert the US Congress by witness intimidation and retaliation.

In the letter he called for the revocation of the diplomatic immunity of the Nigerian diplomats involved in threatening his passport and their prosecution by the US government for violations of American law.

In a related vein, Ogebe in a letter to Senate President Bukola Saraki, who was present in the Congress during the hearing, called on him to hold the Nigerian government accountable for this “unconstitutional, undiplomatic and uncivilized conduct”. Ogebe requested the senate to hold a hearing on the legality of the Nigerian government’s attempt to revoke a citizen’s passport for exercising his constitutional freedom of speech.

Similarly, Ogebe urged the Senate President to ensure the passage of the electoral reforms and thus make history by freeing Nigerians from slavery to riggers just as previous senates had historically aborted the third term agenda and thwarted the cabal during Yar’Adua’s illness.

Also during question and answers, both the Assistant Secretary of State and the Deputy Administrator of USAID conceded that more farmers had been killed in the herder violence than herdsmen. This was in response to Congressman Garret who lamented the continuing atrocities in Nigeria and questioned why the world had “moved on to the next hashtag” when the Chibok girls were still missing.

USAID disclosed that 3,000 domestic election observers would be deployed for the upcoming elections.

Politics › Presidency Blames Jonathan For Delay In Constituting Buhari’s Cabinet by KEVIND(op): 1:53pm On Dec 17, 2018
It has been reported that the Presidency has blamed former President Goodluck Jonathan for causing the delay in the formation of President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet.

Buhari was inaugurated on May 29, 2015 but formed his cabinet on November 11 of the same year.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Monday, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, said Jonathan did not give Buhari handover notes until 48 hours before his departure.

He said, “That President Buhari took 166 days to form a cabinet is absolutely untrue. It took him time to form a cabinet because the outgoing administration in 2015 did not cooperate with the transition committee.

“The President was given handover notes 48 hours to the handover of power and for whatever reason, the President at that time determined that two governments would not operate at the same time.”

However, a Spokesman for the Atiku Abubakar Campaign Organisation, Mr. Phrank Shuaibu, said Buhari had a penchant for blaming others but himself.

Shuaibu said it was laughable that Buhari who had contested the Presidency for 12 years could take over 160 days to set up a cabinet.

He added, “Saying Mr President had to wait for handover notes from his predecessor before forming a cabinet is an admittance of lack of preparedness for the office of the President and the onerous responsibility of managing a country like Nigeria.

“For an office you sought election for four times, obviously you should be able to identify eggheads that can help you manage the country. He didn’t need to wait for handover notes before being able to form a cabinet. He had no working plan. He was practically what El-Rufai would refer to as an accidental public servant or an accidental President.”
Politics › Economic Hardship: Buhari Should Admit Not Having Answers – Oby Ezekwesili by KEVIND(op): 1:32pm On Dec 17, 2018
The Presidential Candidate of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN), Oby Ezekwesili has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to admit that his government does not have the answers to the myriads of questions to building a prosperous Nigeria.

Oby Ezekwesili made the call while reacting to a statement which the Presidency warned that the nation will be facing tougher times ahead, thus urging Nigerians to brace up.

According to the former Minister of Education who was a guest on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily, there have been several unheeded warnings that the nation’s general direction of economic policy is not helpful to the primary goal of assuring higher growth in the economy.

Ezekwesili said: “Higher growth is the basis on which you can tackle poverty, and higher growth is also the basis upon which you can unlock opportunities for prosperity.

“I don’t know whether you say better late than never, because right now the best thing that the President can do honorably is to admit that he doesn’t have the answers.”

She noted that the President has realised how fundamental the economic policy of the government has not enabled the private sector to be pivotal to the kind of broad-based growth that was necessary.

The co-founder of Transparency International, however, disclosed that under her government what will be done differently will be to put the “private sector at the center of our economic drive”.

She opined that “If we want to create sustainable and broad-based growth, what government must do is to become the engine room of intelligent found economic policies, fiscal policies and monetary policies”.

Politics › Electoral Act: Buhari Has Hidden Agenda – Afenifere by KEVIND(op): 7:10am On Dec 16, 2018
Pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, has faulted the refusal of President, Muhammadu Buhari, to withhold his assent to the amended electoral bill, saying that the president and his party the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) had a hidden agenda ahead of next year’s general elections.

There have been wide spread public outcry across the country over President Buhari’s refusal to sign the amended electoral bill, the president had also withdrawn his assent to the bill in September asking for some text in the bill to be revised by the National Assembly.

But his refusal to sign an amended version have been criticised by Nigerians and political stakeholders across the country, the president, however, said the passage of a new electoral bill at this period could create uncertainty and confusion in the nation’s electoral process ahead.

But speaking in an interview with Business day Thursday, National Publicity Secretary of the group, Yinka Odumakin, described the President’s decision as a setback to democracy in the country, stressing that there has not been any move by the President since he assumed office to safeguard the electoral process in the country.

Odumakin said it was obvious that the president decision was taken to safe guard millions of votes he allegedly illegally acquired in the north, adding that the APC was planning to rig next year’s election.

“It is unfortunate that a president, who contested election in the country more than three times before he win even up to the Supreme Court, has not done anything to improve the electoral process in the country since he assumed office.

“We are not surprised it is part of the plan to rig in 2015 presidential election, he got several votes, about 75 percent of his total votes in the north illegally.

Speaking further, he condemned the current Trader moni entrepreneur empowerment scheme of the current administration, describing it as an advance vote buying.

“His refusal to sign is a continuation of the rigging plan of the election. The trader-moni is advance vote-buying you can see the way it is been done,” Odumakin said.

What manner of fat lie is this?

Seun, Mynd44, lalasticlala, I have come to see this news source is nothing but a mirror image of those PDP propaganda sources we had in 2015 such as breaking times, trentonline, hopefornigeria.com and such others. The site is even still being worked on. 99% of their stories are anti Buhari and APC, pro Ugwuanyi (they don't seem to report about any other governor).

Be wary of news coming from this source. For confirmation, visit the site yourselves.

A news as significant as this being given here can't be coming from such incredible source alone. This relks you it is likely a figment of the writer's imagination.
Why are calling out Seun, Mynd44, lalasticlala or is it because the news didn't go the way you envisaged.
Does this newspaper look like a fake news site to you?

2019 Election: U.S. Senate Urges FG To Finalise Electoral Amendment Bill.

The Senate of the United States of America (USA) has identified the delay in signing the Electoral Amendment Bill as one of the major obstacles to the conduct of the 2019 general elections and has urged the Federal Government to finalise it before the elections.

It made the resolution following a motion moved by Senator Bob Menendez, a Democratic senator representing New Jersey and ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

While asking the Federal Government to respect the impartiality of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the lawmakers also called on the Federal Government to take necessary steps to facilitate elections that are credible, transparent, and peaceful.

The U. S. Senate said steps would include providing adequate funding, sensitising the voters, and take necessary actions to punish electoral offenders through the establishment of the Electoral Offences Commission and Tribunal.

The senators also raised concerns over the recently concluded governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun where, it said, security agencies displayed partisanship.

“During the Ekiti and Osun gubernatorial elections in July 2018 and September 2018, respectively, there were concerning incidents in which some elements of Nigeria’s security agencies displayed partisanship and a lack of objectivity, which risks escalating tensions within the country.”

While reaffirming the support of the United States towards ensuring a peaceful, electioneering process in the country, the U.S. Senate said that collaboration between civil society organisations “was a key factor that contributed to successful elections in 2015”.

While moving the motion, Menendez said, “I am introducing this resolution to send a signal that the U.S. Senate is carefully watching the conduct of all actors leading up to the February 2019 elections.

“Nigeria’s last elections in 2015 resulted in the country’s first peaceful transfer of power between political parties, and have rightfully created high expectations among the Nigerian electorate for further improvements.

“I encourage all those participating in the contest to do their part to ensure that the February elections are peaceful, credible, and meet Nigerian, African, and international standards for the conduct of democratic elections.

“A credible outcome to next year’s elections will pave the way to closer ties between the United States and Nigeria for years to come, strengthening continued, economic, development and security cooperation.”

Part of the resolutions by the Senate reads: “Whereas the statement of the September 2018 Joint National Democratic Institute/International Republican Institute Pre-Election Assessment Mission to Nigeria cited remaining challenges and concerns such as delays in finalising the legal framework, delayed release of funds for the elections, security threats in the Middle Belt and North East, instances of vote buying and incitement to violence and disinformation.

“Move expeditiously to finalise the proposed reforms to the legal framework for elections and to ensure the disbursement of funds for the elections.

“Whereas Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has improved the voting process, notably through the introduction of Continuous Voters Registration, the adoption of simultaneous accreditation and voting, improvements to the secrecy of the ballot and the advancement of smart card reader technology.”

The Senate also said it “condemns in the strongest terms the use of hate speech and incitement to violence” and urged “refrain from any rhetoric or action that seeks to demonise or delegitimise opponents, sow division among Nigerians, or otherwise inflame tensions”.

Politics › Buhari Refers To Ibrahim Usman Jibrin As ‘Your Highness’ At FEC by KEVIND(op): 1:47pm On Dec 12, 2018

You want United State of America to sell weapon to your country and share intelligence with you about Boko haram but you voted against the interest of the country you seek help from. Nigeria is really a funny country.
Politics › Nigeria & African Countries That Voted for Hamas & Against Israel At U.N by KEVIND(op):
On Thursday, Nigeria and Zambia voted against an anti-Hamas resolution at the UN, helping to ensure that it would not be adopted. On Sunday, their representatives in an organization hoping to improve agriculture production in Africa arrived in Israel for a four-day seminar.

Last Thursday’s vote in the UN on a resolution condemning Hamas that fell nine votes short of the two-thirds majority needed to be adopted had mixed results in Africa.

Only seven of Africa’s 54 countries – Rwanda, South Sudan, Eritrea, Malawi, Liberia, Lesotho and Cabo Verde – voted with Israel and the US in support of the resolution, while 10 abstained and another 10 did not vote. The other 28 African states voted against the measure, including two countries that have representatives on the current trip: Zambia and Nigeria. What is striking is that Nigeria, which voted against a measure that would condemn Hamas terrorism, is itself in a bloody battle against the Boko Haram terrorist organization.

Ten of Africa’s countries are in the Arab League, which voted as one against condemning Hamas.

Eighty-seven countries voted for the anti-Hamas measure, while 57 voted against and 33 abstained. The necessity for a special two-thirds majority came about because a measure requiring such a special majority passed by a slim three-vote margin, 75-72.

Had some of the countries with whom Israel has close relations in Africa and who have representatives on the current trip to learn about food technology – Kenya, Uganda, and Ethiopia – voted AGAINST the need for a two-thirds majority, then the anti-Hamas resolution would have passed with a simple majority. Kenya abstained, but Uganda and Ethiopia voted in favor of the special majority, a majority US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley denounced as a “double standard.”
