More grace to our gallant soldiers. R.I.P to our soldiers who lost their lives fighting to keep this country safe. Meanwhile, the sudden increase in Boko Haram attack should be looked into properly. Does it have anything to do with the $1billion requested by the Federal Govt to fight insurgency? just thinking aloud.
Politics › We’re Not Interested In Presidency Without Restructuring—igbo Leaders by KEVIND(op): 7:20am On Feb 27, 2018
LAGOS —AT a time some leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the South-East are mobilising support for President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election to pave the way for Igbo presidency in 2023, some Igbo leaders have said that the Igbo are not interested in the presidency without restructuring of the country.
This was the view of some Igbo leaders, who met with the Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe-led Ohanaeze committee on collation of Igbo views on restructuring on Sunday night in Lagos.
Vanguard gathered that Igbo leaders at the meeting held in Ikoyi included Deputy President General of Ohanaeze, Dr Sylvan Ebigwei; Dr Kalu Idika Kalu; Chief Guy Ikokwu; Agunze Chibeze Ikokwu; Professor Uzodinma Nwala; Chief Charles Odinukwe; representatives of South-East governors; and members of Igbo Think-Tank group, Aka-Ikenga among others.
Raised with the intention of ensuring that the Igbo present a common view on restructuring, the Senator Abaribe committee had its first meeting in Abuja. The Lagos gathering is the second in the series. There will be another meeting in Enugu on March 4 to be followed by the Ime-Obi (inner caucus meeting) of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, which will lead to an enlarged Igbo summit.
Asked the views of Igbo leaders at the meeting, Chief Guy Ikokwu told Vanguard : ‘’We debated Igbo position on geo-political restructuring. Igbo insist on restructuring of the polity immediately. We are not interested in Igbo presidency now without restructuring. We are calling on the presidency and the National Assembly to proceed with restructuring immediately.
‘’The Federal Government or the centre should have less power than it has now. It should devolve power to the federating units. We agree with the South-West and the Middle Belt that the federating units should be the zones with the states under them. Each zone should have its constitution. There should be fiscal federalism and resource control.
‘’We are looking at six zones, three in the South and three in the North. The majority of Ndigbo believe, like the South-West, that the federating units should be the zones. With true restructuring, equality of zones, fiscal federalism and resources control, there will be no need for an additional state in the South-East. Each zone will be free to create as many states at it deems fit without recourse to the centre.’’
On the herdsmen crisis, he said the leaders want South-East governors to ‘’see livestock, breeding of animals or ranching as an economic activity, as our forefathers did in the old Eastern region. Chief Michael Okpara established ranches across the Eastern region and we had the Obudu Cattle Ranch. Apart from meat, we produced dairy products. Livestock is not only cattle. It includes pigs, goats, rabbits, sheep, etc. Today, we don’t have Igbo livestock any longer. We expect our governors to have something to show in this regard in 24 months.’’

** Buhari begs families , says abduction a national disaster
** PDP , BBOG, CSOs , others berate Presidency
One hundred and five girls are still missing after Boko Haram terrorist group on Monday attacked the Government Girls Secondary School in Dapchi , Bursari Local Government Area of Yobe State .
The girls were said to have run into the bush after the attack.
But with many girls failing to return home, parents have expressed fears that the girls might have been kidnapped.
Some of the girls’ parents told the
Agence France Presse that they had set up a support group after the attack, bringing to memory a similar situation which occurred when the insurgent group kidnapped 214 Chibok schoolgirls on April 14 , 2014.
The chairman of the newly created group , Bashir Manzo , said , “Our first step was to compile a comprehensive list of all the missing girls. So far , we have compiled the names of 105 . ”
Manzo , whose 16 - year -old daughter , Fatima, is among the missing , said the schoolgirls’ mothers and fathers would seek a meeting with the Yobe State Governor , Ibrahim Gaidam .
He said , “We believe he ( Gaidam ) was misinformed ( about the rescue of 48 of the girls) . The school authorities from the beginning denied and kept denying that our daughters were taken.
“We will see the governor and seek his help , as well as anyone who matters that can in one way or another assist in ensuring the freedom of our girls. ”

Nyanya Attack: APC Berates President Jonathan For Insensitivity.

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has strongly criticised President Goodluck Jonathan over what it described as his “illegal campaign trail” in Kano State on Tuesday, barely 24 hours after the deadly explosion that shook the Federal Capital Territory , FCT, and its neighbouring Nasarawa State that killed scores of people and left 124 others gravely injured.
The APC said President Jonathan erred badly by not showing enough sympathy for the victims of Monday’s blast, as his action show traits of an insensitive and utterly hardhearted leader and amounts to dancing gleefully on the graves of the dead.

Politics › Days After Zamfara Killings, Governor ‘unaware’, Remains In Abuja by KEVIND(op): 10:59pm On Feb 16, 2018
Three days after several citizens of Zamfara state were killed by bandits in two separate attacks, Governor Abdulaziz Yari is yet to return to the state.
The governor, who is the chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, has remained in Abuja attending various functions.
Bandits suspected to be cattle rustlers had Wednesday attacked Birane villa in Zurmi local government killing 18 persons, according to the police.

The spokesperson of the police in the state, Muhammad Shehu, in a statement Thursday said hunters from Birani village intercepted and accosted a suspected cattle rustler herding in the bush with some ‘stolen’ cattle and sheep.
“The herder abandoned the animals and escaped into the bush, but unknown to the hunters, the cattle rustler went to Isah Local Government Area of Sokoto State and mobilised bandits to attack the hunters.
“On February 14, the bandits ambushed the hunters in the bush and there was a clash that led to fatality on both sides,” Mr. Shehu said.

Vanguard newspaper quoted a witness, Hussaini Abdu, who said that the bandits “arrived in large numbers and on motorbikes, intercepting and killing people who were coming or going out of the village. About 41 people were shot dead within a short period of time.”

He also said a commercial motorbike rider conveying a woman and her three children was killed and his motorbike burnt, while the whereabouts of the woman and her children are still unknown.
A journalist based in Gusau, the capital city of Zamfara state told PREMIUM TIMES on Friday that the bandits “returned to the village again on Thursday and killed more people. So far, I can confirm to you that 74 persons have been killed.”
The journalist who declined to be named due to safety concerns also said Birane villa is difficult to access.

“You can’t drive there from here, you need to take two different motorcycles after parking your car to get to Birane and it’s a dangerous journey because of the bandits,” he said.
State government reacts
Contacted Thursday, the state commissioner of Information, Sanda Danjari, said he was still trying to confirm if the attacks took place.
“I heard it on Radio France this morning, but I am yet to confirm,” Mr. Danjari, who said he was travelling, told PREMIUM TIMES over the telephone.
Asked whether the governor was aware, Mr. Danjari said he tried “without success to speak with the governor.”
“I tried his ADC and Sani Garba but I couldn’t get them. I wanted to confirm if His Excellency heard too,” he said.

PREMIUM TIMES can confirm that Mr. Yari chaired a meeting of the NGF, Wednesday night and he also attended the meeting of the National Economic Council Thursday at the presidential villa Abuja.

Politics › Marry Two Or More Women To Reduce Prostitution – Imo Govt Appeals To Men by KEVIND(op):
The Imo state Commissioner for Happiness, Mrs Oghechi Ololo, has appealed to men in her State to try to marry two or more women as a way of reducing prostitution and redundancy among Imo state Women.
Speaking in Owerri state capital this morning, Ololo said Imo state has more women than men forcing a lot of unmarried women to commit adultery with other people’s husbands.
The commissioner said according to statistics, out of approximately 3.9 million Imo state indigenes, 3 million are women and only 9 hundred thousand are men.
“I am not forcing you, but just encouraging you to marry two or more wives to reduce on women staying without husbands”, Commissioner Ogechi told a conference of about 14,000 men who were receiving training in various life skills in the commercial capital.
“Our women are crying every day due to lack of men to marry and support them economically hence they engage in prostitution. So please try to work hard and be productive so that you can help our women by marrying two or more wives provided you are able to provide for their basic needs”.
“As government, we shall be giving some small incentives to such men provided you don’t abuse your wives”, said Commissioner Ogechi.
Imo state has the highest level of prostitution in South East among young girls and women who are not in school or formal employment.

We all know it will take time to fix things in this country within four years. But it will better for you to concentrate on one or two sectors rather than disorganize everything and making you look so incompetent. Mr Goodluck you even spent good six years and their was nothing to show for it. Cant you all learn from Lagos state? Lagos state dont need to wait for the 4years to elapse before they put in any action. Once they get in to office they start work immediately, its something that is so conspicuous, even a blind man can attest to it. all you guys do is to look for lame excuses why you all failed, putting blames in past administrations.
Nigeria is not Lagos State. If it's that easy by now Fashola would have replicated what he did in Lagos State in the Power, Works and Housing sector of the economy.

Crime › Benue: 2 Policemen, 4 Others Killed In Gun Battle With Herdsmen by KEVIND(op): 6:10am On Feb 05, 2018
MAKURDI— NO fewer than six persons were feared dead, weekend, in a heavy gun battle between officers of Benue State Police Command and over 200 herdsmen at Yogbo community in Guma Local Government Area of the state.

Vanguard reliably gathered that the suspected herdsmen had attacked and set many houses and farm produce ablaze in the community, before being confronted by the Police drafted to maintain peace and security in the community.
Vanguard gathered that the entire Yogbo community has been deserted by the locals for fear of being killed by the rampaging herdsmen.
Confirming the development, the command’s Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent Moses Yamu, in a statement yesterday, said: “The Police officers deployed to Yogbo community came under serious attack by heavily-armed militia group numbering about 200.

“Our Police team braced up to the challenge and engaged them in a gun battle. Three of the militants died in the battle, but their corpses were taken away by their fleeing members, some of who suffered severe gunshot wounds.
“Sadly, however, the Police lost one non-commissioned officer, while another one is yet to be seen. One other person whose identity is yet to be ascertained, but believed to be a resident of the area, also died.

… in Adamawa, too
Meanwhile, an unconfirmed number of persons have been killed in a clash between herdsmen and villagers in Song Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The clash, which occurred in Samba and Shore villages on Friday, also left many houses destroyed.
It was gathered that trouble started when the herders took their cattle to a pond said to be the only source of water in the area.
This led to a confrontation between the herdsmen and one of the villagers, who was said to have been injured.

On learning about the incident, the villagers attacked the herdsmen, reportedly killing an unconfirmed number.
The herders then launched a reprisal attack.
Some persons were also said to have died in the reprisal attack, while houses were also burnt down.
Othman Abu-Bakr, spokesman of Adamawa Police Command, confirmed there was an attack but could not give details, promising that “when I get the details, I will call you back. I’m not sure of the casualties yet.”

He also said the command had not been able to make any arrest regarding the incident.
