Politics › Congress Fallout: APC Shocks Tinubu, Ajimobi, Kwankwaso, Dogara, Amaechi, Others by KEVIND(op): 8:08am On Jun 03, 2018
INTENSE politicking with far-reaching electoral implications appears ahead of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), as some of the leading lights suffered crunchy political blows in the resolution of the crisis arising from its ward, local government and state congresses.

‘Already, big names like the national leader, Bola Tinubu, Oyo State governor, Abiola Ajimobi, former Kano State governor, serving senator Rabiu Kwakwanso, Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, former Rivers State governor and Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, controversial Delta senator, Ovie Omo-Agege, former Cross River governor and one-time national chairmanship aspirant, Clement Ebri, have lost out in the struggle to either have absolute control of party structures in their states or sustain their political relevance there, Sunday Tribune can reveal.

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the party, last Friday, began work on the reports from the various appeal panels on the conduct of state congresses.

Nearly all the state chapters of the party, where the exercise took place, had factions conducting parallel congresses.

National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, confirmed to Sunday Tribune that the resolution meeting took place and some big names and their factions were adjudged to be in the wrong.
He also confirmed that the faction loyal to Tinubu, which conducted its ward and local government congresses in 57 local government councils and local council development areas, was overruled by the national leadership.

The state structure was, however, not handed to the Fouad Oki faction, judged to have conducted the exercise in line with the national and party laws, guiding such an exercise.

Abdullahi confirmed that a five-man panel was set up to dissect the constitutionality and legality of the two exercises conducted in Lagos State and find a political solution to the crisis in the state.
Tinubu had been quoted as dismissing any report of factions in the state chapter.

“Yes, we set up a panel to look at the issues in Lagos chapter. Of course, we overruled those who conducted their congress in 57 local government areas, because the constitution only recognises 20 local governments.

“We couldn’t have discountenanced those who conducted in 20 local government areas, because that is constitutional. The issue in Lagos is about legality and constitutionalism.
That is why we asked the committee to look at this first, because it is a constitutional matter, then seek political solutions in a way to avoid winner-take-all situation. That is what we said about Lagos State,” Abdullahi explained.

The panel is headed by the deputy national chairman, North, Senator Lawal Shuaibu, with members including the National Organising Secretary, Senator Osita Izunaso, Vice National Chairman, North-West Inuwa Abdulkadir, among others.

The panel is expected to begin sitting in Lagos today.
Sunday Tribune learnt that the factional state working committee headed by Oki would appear before the panel and likely without presenting it with any memo.

The panel has also been charged to resolve the logjam in Oyo State between factions loyal to the state governor, Ajimobi and Minister of Communications, Bayo Shittu.

Abdullahi confirmed that the congress conducted by the faction headed by the governor was denied an official recognition, with both factions asked to share the party executives.

“We said they should harmonise in Oyo State as a way of finding a political solution,” he stated.
When asked if it was true that the factions were asked to do it 50-50, Abdullahi said he couldn’t exactly remember what the sharing formula was, but that the idea of winner-takes-all would not apply.

Sunday Tribune, however, learnt that the committee was specifically charged with sharing of the state working committee membership into two equal halves for both factions.

If the committee succeeds in the implementation of the said resolution, it will be a major victory for the Shittu faction, known as Unity Forum.

A source in Ajimobi’s camp argued that only a valid court order could re-arrange the current situation by taking some slots away from the governor.

Abdullahi disagreed, saying that any form of inauguration done on the basis of the ward and local government congresses would amount to an illegality, because it was the state executive that would swear them in, after the NWC would have sworn in the state leaders.

He noted that, for now, NWC had not begun the process of inaugurating the state executive, which allows for harmonisation window.

Though he wasn’t specific about him, his position that nearly all the state chapters’ crises had been resolved, except for about four, confirmed that Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha was also one of the casualties.

The party spokesperson explained that all factions that boycotted the exercise in protest of alleged irregularities, were ruled out of order in states where such occurred.

Dogara’s faction in Bauchi, Senator Shehu Sani’s faction in Kaduna and Kwakwanso’s in Kano were caught in the wrong crowd by the NWC’s position.

When the names of the party bigwigs leading the factions were reeled off to him as casualties, Abdullahi explained that it is settled in law that one cannot complain about a process he didn’t participate in.

“There would be nothing to protest because there was no participation,” he said.

It was learnt that crises in states like Kogi, Kwara, Delta, Cross River were resolved by basically going for the congresses supervised by the electoral committees set up by the NWC.

In Delta, the party has now been handed over to the Great Ogboru faction, leading to a huge loss for the faction led by Omo-Agege.

In Cross River, Minister of Niger-Delta Affairs, Usani Uguru Usani, carried the day over the Clement Ebri faction.

The protesting faction in Katsina, which is in court against the Governor Aminu Masari faction, supported by President Muhammadu Buhari, was also ruled offside by the party’s leadership.

Speaking on the crisis resolution by the NWC, which will continue tomorrow (Monday), Abdullahi stated that “we have just about four more states to resolve. Lagos, Oyo, Rivers and Bayelsa. We cancelled the Bayelsa exercise because the electoral committee that went there spilt and could not agree on the outcome. So we cancelled it. Rivers is a court matter and the panel will resolve Oyo and Lagos”.

Sunday Tribune learnt that for more than three hours, NWC members engaged in heated exchange over Rivers and Lagos chapters, because resolution could be reached.

A court order invalidated the Rivers exercise, which loyalists of Amaechi won.
It was gathered that the NWC decision was not only in favour of the cancellation, but the resolution would also include substantial gain for the faction led by Senator Magnus Abe.

Sunday Tribune however learnt that some state chapters would be approaching different courts tomorrow to further ventilate their grievances.
A faction in Lagos chapter is heavily tipped to file processes tomorrow.

Politics › What Prominent Nigerians said about Buhari in 2015 by KEVIND(op):
Around this time in 2015!
• Tinubu said Buhari was the best Person to lead Nigeria but today for the first time in decades Tinubu's party in Lagos has parallel Primaries thanks to Buhari's leadership.

• Around this time in 2015, TY Danjuma told us Buhari was a good leader..today Danjuma's people are under seige and he says the army under Buhari is giving cover to those who are slaughtering Danjuma's people in the Middle Belt.

• Around this time in 2015 Wole Soyinka told us that we can take a leap of faith with Buhari. Today he is asking the United Nations to stop ethnic cleansing in Nigeria under Buhari's leadership.

• Around this time in 2015, Pastor Bakare told us we can expect a better Nigeria under Buhari. Today Pastor Bakare is advising Nigerians to look for a better leader who will restructure Nigeria.

• Around this time in 2015, Prof Tam David-West promised Nigerians that Buhari will make petrol #45 per liter, today Petrol is #145 per liter and Buhari has spent #1.4trillion on fuel subsidy which he claimed was a fraud.

• Around this time in 2015, Sai Barbarians ( Sorry..Sai Buharists) swore that Buhari will declare his assets publicly and produce his WAEC certificate...till date he has done neither.

• About this time in 2015 Fashola said a serious Govt will fix power problem in Nigeria within 6 months yet 3 years after they have have not added one megawatt to the grid

• About this time in 2015 Buhari said naira will be #1 to $1 yet he has messed it up from #187 in 2015 to $1 to #365 to $1 in 2018

• About this time in 2015 Buhari promised insecurity especially Boko Haram insurgency will end in 3 months but in 3 years he has added the herdsmen militia which is by far more dreaded and deathly than Boko Haram and human lives in Nigeria have become meaningless and valueless under his watch.

• While Benue Govt/people were burying their 72 loved ones in a mass grave Buhari was in Kano celebrating marriages, clinking glasses with his eyes on 2019

• Yet again, while the catholic family of Benue State was burying their 2 priests and 17 parishioners murdered in cold blood by herdsmen while worshipping in a mass Buhari was campaigning for 2019 with his campaign support group in Aso Rock.

• In 2015 by this time OBJ was campaigning for Buhari because for him then it was any thing but Jonathan, today he’s seen what a grave judgement he passed and what afflictions he wrecked on the nation.

On New Year's Eve 2015,Father Mbaka encouraged his followers to vote for Mr. Buhari even though he was a Muslim, saying that regardless of religion, he was the right person to lead the country.
But 2018,Mbaka in his new year message had declared that Buhari would be totally disgraced if he takes a shot at the presidency after his current tenure.

-A country where employers never acknowledge your strengths just so you would never be empowered to leave..
-A country where oil companies sabotage refineries just so their private filling stations would thrive..
-A country where the schools of the poor are neglected so as the wards to become tools to the rich.
-A country where the best brains get 240 above to secure admission while below average get less than half to secure same admission.
-A country where its security outfits only listens to the highest bidder.
-A country that the rich evade tax while the poor cant even run a business without multiple taxation.
-A country that an aspirant goes into position with just a home and comes out with 5 highrise, 30 duplex, 15 luxury cars, directorship in bluechip companies, 7 estates in a space of 4 years with a salary of less than N1m..
-A country where the poor are empowered with shoe shinning kits while the rich file their children on scholarships meant for militants, Idp's, brilliant minds, War soldiers, medicals for the poor etc..

A country where dreams are killed even before they are hatched.

Politics › Seventh NASS: N17bn Wasn’t A Bribe, Says Okonjo-iweala by KEVIND(op): 10:45am On May 28, 2018
A former Minister of Finance , Dr Ngozi Okonjo - Iweala , on Sunday, said that she never claimed in her book that the increase in the 2015 budget by the National Assembly was used to bribe the lawmakers .
The former minister said this in a statement on Sunday by her Media Adviser , Mr . Paul Nwabuikwu .
There have been reports ( not in The PUNCH ) that the minister in her book , ‘Fighting Corruption is Dangerous : The Story Behind the Headlines ,’ revealed the blackmail and arm- twisting that characterised budget passage by the National Assembly during the Goodluck Jonathan administration .
The minister , according to the report , had cited an instance in 2015 when the National Assembly leadership forced the executive arm to part with N 17 bn for the federal lawmakers before passing that year ’s budget .
The N17 bn alleged bribe , according to the reports , was beside the National Assembly’s N150 bn annual budget .
Reacting to the reports , the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives , Mr . Femi Gbajabiamila, told Sunday PUNCH that he was not aware that lawmakers took a bribe .
Gbajabiamila, who was the Minority Leader in the 7 th Assembly, admitted that lawmakers had a running battle with Okonjo -Iweala and her aides over the budget because they fused in their own projects to the detriment of some lawmakers .
He had said , “My hunch is that being an election year, members might have wanted several projects sited in their constituencies so that they could have something to campaign on . It is wrong to portray that members were given money for the passage of the budget .”
But in the statement issued on Sunday, Okonjo -Iweala said that the book didn ’t talk about bribes , adding that it indicated that lawmakers increased the budget by N 17 bn and such practice needed to be changed .
She said , “One more time, it is important that people read the book for themselves . In the case of the N 17 bn , the book does not talk of bribe .
“ It indicates that lawmakers increased the budget by N 17 bn and we had to accept that to move on ; hence , the term ‘price to pay ’.
“The reason for discussing what happened is that this approach needs to change . The country must clear up and clarify its budget process for the future to improve .”
She said in the statement that the claim by Gbajabiamila that she and her aides inserted their own projects in the budget was untrue .
“Those like honourable Gbajabiamila trying to introduce lies that myself and my aides put in our own projects and lawmakers were fighting with me on that basis are playing their usual cynical games and Nigerians are tired of that!”

Politics › EXPOSED: The ‘missing Billions Of Naira’ Under Buhari As Chairman Of PTF by KEVIND(op): 3:56pm On May 27, 2018
The Petroleum Trust Fund was inaugurated by the Abacha administration in March 1995 and General Muhammadu Buhari was appointed to head the Fund which was formed sequel to the increase in the pump price of petrol to N 11 from N 3.25.
Sani Abacha, the then Head of State, had said then that the Fund was to distribute the gain from the increased price on social and infrastructural projects.

The Fund started work with an initial capital of about N60 billion in 1996 with a mandate that included the rehabilitation of roads and waterways, educational and health institutions, providing textbooks and stationery, procuring essential drugs and vaccines, providing water supply systems, reviving crumbling agricultural sectors, connecting outlying areas to the national electricity grid, extending railways and telecommunications and ensuring consistent food supply.

Buhari often referred to as Mai Gaskiya (the honest one) was apparently considered for the job mainly because of the qualities he possessed, with the Abacha led government feeling that would douse the tension generated by the increase in fuel prices. With time however, allegations started flying that the PTF was no more than another avenue for the Abacha administration to siphon funds.

On assumption of office in 1999, Chief Obasanjo disbanded the PTF. One of the discoveries made by the administration was that between its inception and July 1999, the funds that accrued to the PTF stood at N 181 billion. It was also found out that the Consultants appointed by the Executive Chairman of the Trust Fund, Gen Buhari constantly fleeced the country of funds running into billions.

In 2000, the Obasanjo administration set up an Interim Management Committee to take a look into the affairs of the Petroleum (Special) Trust Fund and ascertain among other things, how much has been spent by the PTF so far and what is on ground to justify the huge expenditure. The Committee the set to work and accomplished all the terms of reference by March 2000.

Obasanjo prior to the 2015 presidential election cleared Buhari of all allegations of corruption levelled against him while in office.

Politics › Mace Theft: DPO Of National Assembly Transfered To Yobe Over Arrest Of Suspects. by KEVIND(op): 10:07am On May 27, 2018
The Inspector-General of Police, Idris Ibrahim » , has reportedly authorised the transfer of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the National Assembly, Sulu-Gambari Abdul to Adamawa State following the mace theft saga.

According to TVC News, which cited a source privy to the matter, Abdul was transferred as a punished for his earlier arrest of six persons suspected to be the attackers that stole the mace.

Suspected thugs had on April 18, 2018, invaded the Senate chamber at the National Assembly and carted away the mace, the upper chamber's symbol of authority.

DPO Abdul's testimony
The source was also quoted to have said that the DPO's testimony that some security officials, lawmakers and National Assembly staff may have colluded to organize the invasion and mace theft at the ongoing National Assembly Ad-hoc Investigative hearing on the matter got his superiors angry.
The Police IG was said to have felt that DPO Abdul went too far in revealing security information during his testimony before the committee which is co-chaired by Deputy Senate Leader, Senator Bala Na'Allah and Honourable Betty Apiafi .

The report, still citing a source, further revealed that those who masterminded the DPO's transfer said he should have tread cautiously after the arrest of the six suspects and detention of vehicles which reportedly had the signature of an insider job.

Politics › Southern, Middle Belt Leaders Reject Buhari’s Water Bill by KEVIND(op): 7:41am On May 27, 2018
THE SOUTHERN and Middle Belt Leaders Forum, on Friday, described President Muhammadu Buhari’s bill seeking Federal Government’s exclusive control of water resources as a careful plot to deprive states of the little benefits they get from oil and other natural resources.
The forum, in a statement signed by Dr Isuwa Dogo (Middle Belt), Yinka Odumakin (South-West), Senator Bassey Henshaw (South-South) and Professor Chigozie Ogbu (South-East), asked the Senate to reject the bill.
The statement reads: “The attention of the Southern and Middle Belt Leaders Forum has been drawn to the division in the Senate on a presidential bill seeking to concentrate the control of water resources in the hands of the Federal Government.
“The controversial parts of the bill are contained in Clauses 1 to 5. The clauses read, ‘All surface water and groundwater wherever it occurs is a resource common to all people, the use of which is subject to statutory control.
“‘There shall be no private ownership of water but the right to use water in accordance with the provisions of this Act.
“‘The right to the use, management and control of all surface water and groundwater affecting more than one state pursuant to Item 64 of the Exclusive Legislative list in Part l of the Second Schedule to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 as amended, and as set out in the First Schedule to this Act, together with the beds and banks, is vested in the Government of the Federation to be exercised in accordance with the provisions of this Act.
“‘As the public trustee of the nation’s water resources, the Federal Government, acting through the minister and the institutions created in this Act or pursuant to this Act, shall ensure that the water resources of the nation are protected, used, developed, conserved, managed and controlled in a sustainable and equitable manner, for the benefit of all persons and in accordance with its constitutional mandate.
“‘States may make provisions for the management, use and control of water sources occurring solely within the boundaries of the state but shall be guided by the policy and principles of the Federal Government in relation to Integrated Water Resources Management, and this Act.’
“We consider this bill to be provocative, obnoxious and a crude assault on the spirit of federalism at a time when the calls for devolution of power have reached the crescendo. Why anyone will choose a time like this to further strengthen unitary holds on our polity is quite unfathomable.
“The Court of Appeal has settled this matter and the presidency should have been guided if institutional memory is guiding. The Appeal Court, on July 18, 2017 ruled thus:
“‘No doubt, the common radical denominator is the scope of waterways cutting across international and state boundaries coupled with a declaration by the National Assembly that such waterways are international or interstate respectively. The more obvious areas of coverage under the Exclusive List are the sea tidal waters and marine ports declared by the National Assembly to be federal ports. But one finds nothing on the Exclusive List dealing with intra-state waterways either in Lagos or any other state in the federation.
“‘The burden is on the respondents to show that any of the lagoons, creeks or waterways used for intra-state navigation has run across the parameters of Lagos State into international or interstate boundaries and is so declared in a law promulgated by the National Assembly.
“‘Item 64 is couched in no narrower scope as it deals with water from such sources declared by the National Assembly to be sources affecting more than one state. The inland waterways within Lagos State are not and cannot by any stretch of interpretation be covered by any item on the Exclusive Legislative List under part one to the second schedule of the constitution.’
“At a time we are grappling with mass killings across the country partly because of the quest by herders to use the force of arms to continue enforcing grazing routes in this age and time, the presidency that has failed to stop the wanton destruction of lives and property is only interested in opening another frontier of unrest.
“We want to ask the President why he is interested in all rivers and their banks. If the Federal Government controls all rivers and their undefined banks, what happens to oil wells in the creeks that are onshore and other economic activities in other states at the banks? Has the President forgotten his statement in the US recently that the states cannot afford to fund their own police because they are currently receiving bailouts from the Federal Government? We want to know how the Federal Government further denying them access to economic activities in the river banks in their states will improve their lot.
“It is quite obvious that the goal of this is not water that the Federal Government can get in abundance by drilling boreholes. The goal is to use water to take over resources from the states instead of devolving more powers to them.
“We advise the Senate to urgently throw away this bill because it is anti-federalism and capable of further heating up the polity at a time we need peace to reign in the country.”

Politics › 'Enough Is Enough' — Alaafin Of Oyo 'demands' End To Federal Character by KEVIND(op): 5:34pm On May 24, 2018
“Today, a Yoruba man will score 240 while a Hausa man will score 120, yet they are both offered admission to study same course in the same university, they created educationally dis-advantaged states to their favour. Enough is enough.”

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, has implored the Federal government to return power to regionals as it was practised before the military coup of 1966, saying the idea of federal character has eroded merit in the country.

Oba Adeyemi made this known at a conference organised by Yoruba KO'YA Movement in Oyo State on Tuesday.

The event, which focused on issue of herdsmen-farmer crisis, had in attendance the Aare Onakakafo of Yoruba Land, Aare Gani Adams; Retired Arch-Bishop of Methodist Church, Ayo Ladigbolu; retired Assistant Inspector General of Police, Tunji Alapini; eminent scholar, Professor Wale Fatunde, media entrepreneur, Otunba ‘Deji Osibogun and a host of other yoruba groups.

The paramount king said: "Regionalism is the way out; the current quasi-federal system of government would continue to promote hunger, ethnic intimidation, religion intolerance, infrastructure decadence. I demand for a return to where we were before 1966.

“Before the military coup of 1966 spearheaded mainly by the northerners, what we had was a regional system of government where every region controls their resources; but after they took over, they moved everything away from the region to the centre, rendering thee region powerless."

The first monarch, who spoke in Yoruba, went through memory lane to remind the Yoruba ethnic group of how they have always been at the fore front of happenings in the country but how everything changed when "the northern soldiers came and destroyed everything; they said no more regionalism, they deceived Nigerians by establishing federal character which schemed out merit, they created Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), which is now causing 'Ijamba' to Nigerians".

Speaking further, he said: “Today, a Yoruba man will score 240 while a Hausa man will score 120, yet they are both offered admission to study same course in the same university, they created educationally dis-advantaged states to their favour. Enough is enough.”

Also speaking at the event, Arch-bishop Ayo Ladigbolu referrred to the Judgement passed by Justice Adewale Thompson in 1969, which declared open field grazing as criminal.

“The Fulani herdsmen did not just start destroying farms today,” he said. “They have been doing that for over 40 decades. In April, 1969 Judge Adewale Thompson at Abeokuta Divisional high court with suit number AB/26/66.

Ladigbolu quoted the judge, saying; "I do not accept of the defendant that a custom exists, which imposes an obligation on the owner of the farm to fence his farm whilst the owner of the cattle allows his cattle to wander like pest and cause danage. Such a custom, if it exists, is unreasonbale and I hold that [it] is repurgenate to natural justice, eguity and good conscience. It is highly unreasonable to place the burden of fencing a farm on the farmer without also corresponding obligation on the cattle owner to fence his cattle. Sequel to that, I ban open grazing for its implications to peace and tranquilty and the cattle owners must fence or ranch their animals for peace to reign."

Also Gani Adams, who was represented by Yinka Ogundimu, said that Yoruba people are ready to defend themselves against the any threats from the fulani herdsmen. He also called on the Yoruba to partake actively in farming.

He said: “We should work hard to secure our land but i want to call on our people to go back to farm. Let’s feed ourselves. We are ready to work with Yoruba KO’YA Movement to salvage Yoruba land. South West feed the North. For instance, 10,000 cows are slaughtered in Yoruba Land every month; N8bn is taken out of the economy of the west to the north every day through cow, onion, pepper, yam, etc. We can produce all these things to render the north useless.

“Netherlands doesn’t have oil but the country makes $100bn every year through agriculture. South west states are lagging behind on agriculture, nearly everything we consume in the south west are either imported or brought from other region. This must stop.”

How many other countries did the US also cheat in the rest of their agreement with less powerful countries? You listed basically just three, while there are dozens more which the US use like a condom.
Using their territories as mere outpost siphoning their resources (oil) with reckless abandon, selling their mill array hardware for exorbitant prices and many more. By the way d trade between US and China is mutually beneficial. Some would even argue US is at the advantage more.
Then ask those so called "less powerful countries" to redefine or renegotiate the agreement they believe are not in the interest of their respective countries. Trump has said that America can not be fooled anymore into losing trillions of dollars to bad negotiated deals and accords. So,pls deal with it.

Crime › Breaking: Herdsmen Kill Five In Benue by KEVIND(op): 6:41pm On May 17, 2018
Suspected Fulani herdsmen have killed five farmers at Ukemberagya district, near Anyii, in Logo local government area of Benue State.
Anyii is the country home of former Governor of the state, Gabriel Suswam and was the last Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp Vice President Yemi Osinbajo visited before returning to Abuja later on Wednesday.
The Vice President visited the state on a peace mission on Wednesday.
A community leader, Chief Joseph Anawah, told The Nation on phone that the attackers who were armed with sophisticated weapons stormed the settlements in Ukemberagya at 6:30 a.m. and operated for about three hours.
“They moved from one village to another, shot sporadically and razed houses,” he said.

Politics › Tinubu Under Fresh Pressure To Quit APC by KEVIND(op): 10:14am On May 14, 2018
The national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is gradually getting to the point of quitting the ruling party to negotiate a new coalition with other stakeholders in the polity. The reason is not unconnected with the unrestrained attack on his political dynasty in the south west by the Presidency, and the seeming decoy by President Muhammadu Buhari to subtly play him into irrelevance in the ruling party and government.

The former Lagos State Governor has tacitly been sidelined from the party government and APC structures since the victory in the 2015 general elections. President Buhari merely resorted to the pretense of attempting to bring him to reckoning and relevance after some political calculations to retain the south west for the 2019 presidential election. The President playing on the south west APC leader, appointed him to lead the reconciliation initiative of the APC without constituting a formal committee to undertake that party assignment. Since that appointment, the ruling party has not been open to Tinubu’s mediation or arbitration in the conflicts ravaging the party; rather, the party is being strengthened to ridicule and uproot Tinubu’s political structure in APC.

Furthermore, the struggle to build internal democracy in the party gets frustrated by the desperation to build new generation leaders out of the south west and dismantle Tinubu’s political dynasty in the zone.
The 2017 Ondo Governorship election exposed the grand plot from Abuja to emasculate Tinubu’s political influence and hegemony in the south west. The episode further exposed the hidden plot of the President to groom new generation leaders in the South West from the appointments made to the federal executive. The grand plot was also extended to micro alliance within the APC with the old allies in the ANPP, one of the legacy parties that formed the APC and a close linage to the CPC.

The APC governorship primary election in Eikiti State on Saturday deepened the grand plot against Tinubu. After the Saturday, May 5 pandemonium that obstructed the primary election, Tinubu’s intervention and suggestions on how to achieve transparent primary election in Ekiti were ignored by the party structure put in place to reduce the national leader to nothing. The result of the Ekiti governorship primary election eventually validated the fears that caused the pandemonium which rendered the first primary inconclusive. The Abuja force won the battle, and is being reinforced from the federal might to be the dominant force in the South West.

APC ward and local government congresses conducted in the past two weeks seemingly closed the political space in the South West against Tinubu and his loyalists. The allies of the president took all the advantages and ensured their loyalists take over the executive positions with the exception of Lagos State and by extension, Osun State in the zone.
In Oyo State, Governor Abiola Ajimobi, who had his traditional political root in the ANPP with Buhari but became governor on the ticket of the ACN before the APC alliance, technically pulled the state party structure out of the ACN to the CPC/ANPP legacy platform ion the broader APC.

Accordingly, going into the 2019 general elections APC stakeholders loyal to the president have been empowered to firmly control Ogun, Ondo, Oyo and Ekiti states, leaving Tinubu with Lagos and Osun.
Even in the control of Lagos and Osun states, the president ignores Tinubu in making federal appointments from the two states. He rather goes for those perceived to be challenging Tinubu’s authority and prepared to fight the political leader in the zone with the federal might at their behest. The president is perceived to have covertly been empowering some of the ministers and APC national leaders from the south west like Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, Solid Mineral Development Minister, Kayode Fayemi, APC national legal adviser, Muiz Banire; including governors of Ondo, Ogun and Oyo states, to decapitate and dismantle Tinubu’s dynasty and bring down his hegemony in the south west.

Invariably, Tinubu has been relegated to a floating party member, losing his leadership status, and no longer considered to have stake in the APC. His loyalists have become apprehensive that their leader is being subtly humiliated in the party he labored assiduously to build and ensure its victory in 2015. They are accordingly, placing the option of compelling their leader to consider alternative political platform in the preparations for 2019 elections.
They perceive the APC reconciliation appointment Buhari offered Tinubu as decoy and beguile to make him delay action or decision on his political misfortune in the APC alliance and consider quitting the party.

Politics › Imo APC Headquarters Set Ablaze by KEVIND(op): 10:59pm On May 11, 2018
The party secretariat of Imo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was Friday evening set on fire by hoodlums.
It was gathered that the fire only affected the internal parts of the secretariat building, which is located at the Imo State University junction in Owerri.
Secretarial equipment, including files and documents, were destroyed.
State party chairman, Hilary Eke, confirmed the development to Punch.
Eke said the act was “just to frustrate the Local Government Areas congress of the party on Saturday.
“I have been in a meeting ahead of the LGA congress of the party in Imo state. Those who attacked the Secretariat the other Saturday are likely to be the same people who set it on fire on Friday.
“Despite the provocation , the LGA congress must go on Saturday. We have already elected five man per ward during the ward Congress. The Congress does not take place at party Secretariat, it will take place in the 27 LGAs of the state on Saturday.

“I have already petitioned the inspector General of Police over the attack on the Secretariat the other Saturday. My duty is to report to the police and the police have the duty to investigate. So members of staff identified those who attacked it”.

Crime › Soldiers Torture Ex-serviceman To Death, Dump Corpse In Hospital by KEVIND(op): 9:53am On May 10, 2018
Some military operatives attached to a construction company in the Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State have allegedly tortured an ex-soldier , Victor Ochoma, to death.

PUNCH Metro gathered that 25 - year -old Victor quit the army in 2014 after joining a special squad to fight members of Boko Haram in Maiduguri , Borno State .
He allegedly left due to lack of weapons to fight the insurgents.

Our correspondent was told that he was employed as a security guard in a road construction firm on Ihugbogo Road .

The firm was said to have been contracted by the state government to construct Ahoada , Odiemerenyi, Odieke and Ihugbogo roads , all in the Ahoada East LGA of the state

Some soldiers attached to the Ahoada command were reportedly deployed in the company to provide security cover for workers constructing the roads .
It was learnt that on Sunday , a man was caught with an iron rod allegedly stolen from the company.

The suspect allegedly confessed that the rod was sold to him by one of the company’s guards and Victor was seized .

He was reportedly taken to the military base at Ahoada , where he was tortured to death.

Our correspondent learnt that his corpse was dumped at a general hospital by the soldiers , who quickly returned to their base .

Victor ’s half -brother , Neville Ochoma, who saw him before he breathed his last , said he bled from the nostrils and mouth .

He said the ex- military man denied the allegation of selling the rod valued at N 1 ,600 , to the suspect .

Neville said , “He started working with the company in January 2018 . We were formerly living together in Ahoada . When he got the job of a security man at the company, he moved to Ihugbogo, where the company has its office .

“A man was caught with an iron rod and he said it was sold to him by a security guard . Victor was questioned, but he denied selling the rod . Other security guards on the premises fled .

“They took him to their base and tortured him from Sunday night till the early hours of Monday .

“By morning , they took him to the Ahoada Police Station . The police rejected him because of his condition . They told the soldiers to first take him to a hospital for treatment .

“Instead of taking him to a hospital, they took him to their command at Ahoada . They beat up the man they found the rod with as well, but Victor ’s torture was much because he was an ex- military man .”

He explained that the soldiers continued with the torture at the command and when some family members visited around 11 am , the commandant denied access to him .

He said after waiting for two hours , they were called in.

“We met him vomiting blood in the mouth and nostrils . He had suffered internal bleeding .

“When they saw that his condition was critical, they brought their van and took him to the Ahoada General Hospital . Before we got to the hospital, he was dead . They left his corpse at the hospital, put their van in reverse and left,” he added .

Our correspondent , who saw a photo of the victim ’s corpse , observed marks of violence on his body .

Neville said when the family went to the Ahoada Police Division to report the case , they were turned back because the Divisional Police Officer was not around .

The Divisional Crime Officer was alleged to have also rejected the case .

He noted that when he returned to the army base to meet the commandant , he was chased away .

“The rate of torture at the base was scary . There were some other people being tortured when I got there with another relative, ” he added .

He said the late Victor quit the army after surviving three attempts on his life in Maiduguri .

He said , “He left the army after serving for two years because of the way the commanders were toying with the lives of the southerners , who were sent into uncharted forests . Those who knew the forests were assigned to roadblocks . He also said they were given unsophisticated weapons to fight Boko Haram.

“He survived being killed three times and even had a bullet injury . The last time he escaped, a barracks was burnt down.

“When he came back , he returned to his life as a civilian. He was murdered because they said he was a deserter. Our father is dead ,” he added .

An uncle of the victim , Johnson Nwocha , said the family was still deliberating on what to do about the incident .

He claimed that Victor ’s torture by four soldiers started on the construction company’s premises before he was dragged into a van and taken to the place where he was beaten to death.

“The family eventually reported the case to the police ,” he added .

The victim ’s mother , Edith Ochoma, called for the arrest and prosecution of the soldiers responsible for her son ’s death .

“The boy was innocent . He cannot die just like that, ” she said .

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Nnamdi Omoni , said the case was not handled by the police .

He said , “I am aware of the matter , but I cannot comment on it because it does not have anything to do with the police . You know the appropriate quarters to contact ; I have nothing to say .”

The spokesperson for the Army, Division 6, Lt . Col . Aminu Iliyasu , could not be reached on his telephone line and had yet to respond to a text message sent to his telephone .

The phone of the Director , Army Public Relations , Brig. Gen . Texas Chukwu , rang out many times without a response .

He also did not respond to a text message sent to his line as of the time of going to the press .
