dont get me wrong oh, i'm not judging nigerian developers. all i'm saying is that i haven't met any nigerian developer with enough knowledge on SEO. try and visit www.webceo.com and learn a little about SEO or do some personal SEO research in your spare time, maybe that would enlighten you about what SEO is altogether.

ok, one at a time. as at middle of last year, i would definitely make the same comments or similar as the ones you guys are making here. yes, SEO is about getting found using keywords, but how to make that happen?? it goes far beyond what you guys know, as i later found out.

and yes, nigerian websites are being found, doesnt really mean the web masters did any SEO. go to google and search for "kheme" and my personal website comes up on 1st page, I NEVER DID ANY SEO ON THAT SITE! so, the fact that a site is on page one doesn't mean the webmaster did some SEO. but still, SEO is hard and serious work, especially when you have thousands of websites competing for page 1 for the same keywords as you.

the website i'm trying to optimize (www.mountainviewcyprus.com) used to be on page 1 on all major search engines as at 5yrs ago and the website then was crap and without any SEO. the owner realised he was getting market from the internet so decided to make a more attractive website and the new webmaster gave him a new site, but lost ranking and left 1st page. when i was given the job to work on its SEO, the site wasn't within the first 50results on major search engines.

working on the site since october/novermber last year, i've gotten it to page 2 or 3 on major search engines. the client wants page 1, so my work is not quite done. the current design has plenty comma, so i'm working on rearranging things, which is about my final stages in its SEO. anyways, those who work on SEO should know about website grader. when i picked this site up, it scored 47 on website grader. presently, it scores a fair 86 http://websitegrader.com/site/www.mountainviewcyprus.com. (my so-called new design scored 92 )

so what those websites are doing is using those links to 'reinforce' theose keywords, making them more relevant for the website. that's the link building aspect of SEO. external links as well as internal links play a big role in SEO, especially the anchor text of those links.

for example, your site sells gaming software. an anchor text saying "Home" or "click here" that points to your home page doesn't really help. but an anchor text saying "games software" or "games" or "gaming software" that points to your home page makes your site more relevant to the keyword in google's eyes. so you get the concept now?

so having those links on those keywords pointing back to the website reinforces those keywords for the website. maybe is black-hat SEO, i'm not sure yet, but sure it might not make much sense to humans, but to search engines, it makes a whole lotta sense.

and as for the issue of nigerian developers not knowing SEO, i'm not talking of surface knowledge of SEO like i had 6months ago. i'm talking of SEO professionals or experts. i've asked all my developer friends about SEO, they dont seem to know any strategies beyond what everyone else knows about SEO. i mentioned it to a developer here who started explaining links and php to me (clearly he had no idea what SEO was).

you guys have a clue, but not helping as such. and yawa, those keywords are not from a database. that's the typical output of a keyword generator. yes, i can manually list keywords, but that means i have to manually change them as search traffic changes for different keywords related to the website. that list changes (i repeat, it's not from a database) with queries, and new keywords are generated as search traffic changes on search engines.

after thinking much about it, i can write a php script to perform same function. just that most keyword generation tools out there require CAPTCHA to generate keywords, which is what amazes me about these websites, you figure?

am i making any sense here? or am i making my self less clear?

its not from a database. there are tools that generate keywords. does anyone in here know anything about SEO

lol. if i could point him here, i would have asked him to read the other thousand and one articles i've read. they guy doesnt even have time to send me an email and being that i'm new in the SEO business, he doesnt have much regard for my advices (or at least, that's what i think, lol). i will get the word to him somehow.

i think mod rewrite has something to do with the solution.

scroll to the end of the page, you'd see "Top KeyWords" when you click on that link, it takes you to a page with some dummy content. when you scroll down, you'd see a list of keywords.

how do they do this? look to the bottom of the page for green holiday village, you will see a link called "Top Keyword" on that page, they have a list of keywords for the website that links to other pages that then link back to the home page using the selected keywords. How do they do that? is it a script or what? i want to put it on www.mountainviewcyprus.com please if you know how, let me know, a client wants same feature on his website. thanks

what are the advantages/disadvantages of having multiple websites for the same business?

here's the situation. my client has me doing some SEO work on his current website, his MAIN website, and at the same time, he has someone else working on other website and he's even asking me to consider making a 3rd website. i have tried to talk this guy out of multiple websites but i need more concrete reasons to support my argument.

so far, what i can come up with is:

- if there are multiple websites for the same business, then which address do you ask people to visit or publish (in emails, cards, posters, etc)
- secondly, if google should spot both websites are having similar contents, then only one (whichever one google feels is more relevant) will be displayed in search results. the down site to this is that there's almost no guaranty as to which page of which website google will display.

so i need you guys to help me with more reasons why or why not to get multiple websites for the same business.

PS: when i say multiple websites, i dont mean multiple domain names pointing to the same site. i mean completely different websites with different designs altogether.
