Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Dr. Rita Inoma-Abbey, said she could not comment on the issue because she had not been briefed.Typical Efforts made to reach the Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Navy in the state, Mr. N. Yeibo, were abortive as he did not pick his calls when our correspondent called his two lines. Also, he had not responded to text messages sent to his line as at the time the paper was going to bed.He could care less Our correspondent could not also reach Porbeni, but his Personal Assistant who spoke on the telephone declined comments. She demanded to know our correspondent’s “interest”in the matter.Really? SMH “What is your interest in the matter? Are you Tekena‘s brother? I don‘t know what your interest is, but whatever it is; I will call Abubakar and tell him what you have told me. I don‘t know why you want to publish it in the newspaper; I don‘t know what your report will do,” she said.Oh, What a Pity. Now, Why in the hell do we have paid soldiers guarding a retired Soldier? WHY?!! Is Porbeni still in government? Did they freeze Porbeni's pension? Is Porbeni handicapped? He can't work and hire private security? Are Nigerian Naval ratings that jobless? or the Nigerian Military that Moronic? Is this a joke? Why are we paying soldiers to guard Retired Soldiers , who by definition are now CIVILIANS?!! Is he leading a military expedition in his bedroom? SMDH @ My Country. |
^^ where exactly is it stated in the constitution that sharia law is the standard for ALL muslims in such cases? I understand that the supreme court has not ruled on the constitutionality of various punishments and codes under sharia law -I believe we can take a quick glance at the composition of that dishonorable bench over the years and guess the reasons for that- But that could also mean that sharia law is not constitutional and some misguided fanatics are just forcing their own morbid cultural and religious desires on a secular society. I hope this lady and a good lawyer will make a name for themselves, take this case up to the Supreme Court and challenge the constitutionality of an overbroad Sharia law. That is how we set precedents and strengthen the law. I will be excited to read how this Sharia thing will be constitutionally argued and decided. |
"Dancing around making funny faces at greedy capitalists" ![]() Repented after saving instruction. . . ![]() |
Le Stylo:When I read those words in bold, my mind went to the different court levels we have i.e The Magistrate Courts, The State Courts, The Court of Appeal and The Supreme court. Of course they can move cases to the proper jurisdiction But Sharia Court? I find it hard to understand why a Case brought by a Nigerian Citizen(26 year old o!)will be rejected by a Nigerian Judge and referred to the Islamic Sharia court or even a Customary Court. Especially if the plaintiff does not want to be subjected to the principles of those courts and does not accept their fundamental beliefs. Especially when the case has got nothing to do with her contracting anything under Sharia by herself in the first instance as the facts of this case suggest. |
Law prince:Oga Lawyer, If the Marriage was contracted without the woman's consent, It will also be illegal under Nigerian Law period. Right? The fact that it was contracted Illegally by the two defendants as you mentioned, and without the assent of a Sharia court makes this case more serious and more necessary for the Nigerian court to decide on. As that will be a clear violation of her civil and human rights as a Nigerian citizen period! Right? And that begs the question; Why will a judge throw out the case of a 26 year old Nigerian citizen who came to seek redress against the Illegal act of two adult males hiding under the precept of some ambiguous Cultural or Religious law or duty? --->Especially if she is not interested in Sharia Law? Remember, according to you, The Father and "Fraudband" even violated Sharia Laws and she clearly ain't into that Sharia thing. So like Sagamite asked several times already; Don't I as a Muslim living in a so called Sharia State have the right to choose if I want my case to be heard under Sharia Law or the secular Laws of Nigeria? ^The answer to that question is vital to the rights and liberty of every Nigerian citizen. Law prince:Cannot? Really? That is a very dangerous word. So I have no way of seeking redress if I, as a Muslim decide tomorrow that I am no longer interested in Islam or Islamic law? or my parents religion, am I bound forever to Sharia laws?!! You mean I cannot seek to void a Sharia marriage based on fundamental Nigerian Family/Common law principles? especially If I've come to disagree with Sharia Law Principles or renounced Islam, even if the Marriage was contracted under sharia Law? Really? You mean Nigerian Common Laws do not have superior jurisdiction over Sharia Laws? Who passed these?!! Can't wait for Sango Laws. . . |
Odunnu:Don't be afraid, this head is kinda strong ![]() |
I'm puzzled by the title of this thread(Aroke?) and GEJ's comments "They nearly broke his arm, I'm sorry for the poor man" ![]() "It is where they push you that you will go" ![]() Is this a poor attempt at humility or is he a pretender to the seat of president? This GEJ guy sef, SMH |
Sagamite:HAHAHAHA! Exactly my bro!! This is the opportunity the Irunmoles were waiting for Ase! Unfortunately, I still see some folks arguing for a general or universal secular law. They better seize the opportunity! I hope the worshippers of Arochukwu Long-juju will Join with the children of Olodumare to demand for the return of our ancestral laws. Since sharia imperialists have won their battle and have succeeded in rubbishing the Secular system we had, it is time to roll out the Okija shrine laws and the Irunmole codes. It is time Eboras put on "judicial gown" and decide cases. Secular Nigeria died on the sword of this phrase: Judge Isiyaku Mohammed said under the constitution, the federal court could not intervene in the affairs of an Islamic court.Let's quit trying to wake it up. |
Sagamite:Will somebody with a good knowledge of Sharia Law answer Sagamite? or at least answer the questions? I dey wait o! BECAUSE I need someone to convince me that the shyte I just smoked caused me to read this: Judge Isiyaku Mohammed said under the constitution, the federal court could not intervene in the affairs of an Islamic court.WHAT!!!! Ok, I will not pretend, I suspected that OBJ and the Federal Government's gutless kowtowing to the proponents of unbridled Sharia law back in 1999 was going to lead to stuffs like this, but WHAAATTTT!!! Ok, It is time for Sango laws o! We the children of Olodumare demand to be the governed by the dictates of Orunmila as given to us by IFA and as directed by Obatala ![]() We also demand that our laws must supersede any Federal law, we want Zero federal intervention when we do our sacrifices and perform our OROs!! |

@ Mikeansy, I do see your point, although, I wanted something formal that will help us address the foundational issues we have failed to address in Nigeria; Decentralize government at all levels, ensure a more equitable enforcement of our laws, remove those decrees and acts that limit the rights of any Nigerian to own land, live wherever they choose, practice their faith, seek and receive justice and vote or be voted for anywhere in Nigeria regardless of class, sex or ethnicity e.t.c I will argue that a president or leader that is committed to making Nigeria work for all Nigerians may not even need a SNC. If she can provide leadership for her party and influence enough political leaders and the people to see the need for a major social and political reform plus enforce those laws you spoke about, then we may not need any special SNC. It will take balls, it will take guts, it will take a lot of political will and strategy. It will take removing your focus away from stealing billions of dollars you will never spend peacefully anyway. If GEJ is that leader, I wish him well, if not, I wish him Hell. I don't care if he does it through a SNC or by arm twisting the PDP infested National Assembly, just get the job done. Beaf:Yes, well said! that struck me too! erm, is this not the same Beaf that some NL folks refer to as a blind GEJ supporter? |
OAM4J:Ok, netotse replied, allow me to add; I'm glad you mentioned the bolded. You are right, But The key is Inspiration. Articulation and Oratory skills are like "jaras" (extras). Essential extras IMO though. The point is that Ribadu and ACN must inspire followership, his ambition depends on it period! But my experiences with Nigerians shows that we most often equate articulation with the ability to speak Queens English. I DO NOT CARE if Ribadu cannot speak Queens English like the King of England. Can he speak Hausa to the Masses like Aminu Kano spoke to the Talakawas? Can he command the attention of the crowd like Adegoke Adelabu on Mapo hill? or the young Zik in front of a crowd? -those people became leaders for a reason. . . . and if he can't communicate and pass across his message with great oratorical skills, can he ORGANIZE like a certain Black man with a "funny name" who with his charm, charisma and dogged organizational skills became the most powerful man in the world? It's not just the articulation and Oratory, and no, Ribadu does not need to speak English to Agberos, but he must inspire and ORGANIZE those people to believe in his campaign and want him more than they want a bag of rice from GEJ or a wad of cash from IBB, else he'll lose. . . |
kcjazz:That is the "take away" message.^+1 Any serious student of politics will tell you that the power to inspire is chief to the success of any political leader. I do not care if you are an Angel or a Brutal dictator. Inspire or perish! Jarus' observation is on point. Gbawe and other supporters raised very good concerns about the danger of publicly dishing out such criticisms, but IMO, if you do not have a personal access to NR, if you are not a member of his inner circle, if you have not signed an irrevocable oath of allegiance to him and his campaign, then I see no reason why you should not publicly voice these kinds of constructive criticism. The hope is that NR will listen or his handlers will take note and make the necessary adjustments. At the end of the day, Nuru Ribadu is a means to an end not the end itself -we want a genuine representative democracy where egalitarian laws are made, respected and enforced for all Nigerians regardless of age, class, sex or ethnicity. I'll go slightly off-topic to present my thoughts on ACN and Ribadu; On Ribadu's prospects; I'm just not impressed with Ribadu and all the so called progressives parading themselves around, from Ribadu to Utomi. The reason can be summed up in kcjazz's statement above. I'm not impressed nor convinced by their grassroot organizing. I see little to no impact and safe for Buhari, their name recognition is unacceptably low and that is a major problem. Unless Tinubu, Ribadu and all the rest of them have a secret stash of dollars somewhere to buy this election with, or a direct access to the minds of the owners of Nigeria (Big Oil), I see ACN losing the presidential Election. As a Ribadu/ACN sympathizer, I'm saddened by the possibility of another 8 years of PDP rule. This election will not be won online on FB and twitter. Ribadu and ACN should forget the online Youth vote nonsense they keep shouting about. Nigeria is not America and we do not have a well educated, electronically-connected, liberated youth population that will vote differently or defend their votes better than the older generation without a great deal of inspirational push. Those who may deliver this election for ACN in the face of massive spending and rigging by PDP are NOT the FB generation. They are the Okada riding, spare part selling, we-are-gathered-on-the-street-corner-because-we-are-jobless Nigerians, they are the ones who might consider voting and guarding their votes on election day, not the "Lekki today, Yankee tomorrow" FB and Twitter types ![]() ACN needs to put in more WORK to get them excited about this election and Ribadu needs to find a way to communicate to them better and inspire them to own this election. We are a wounded, cynical and politically apathetic people. Ribadu needs to work harder to convince us. Unfortunately, time is running out and I see little work on the ground. The only thing that will make things a bit better for supporters like myself will be if ACN focus their attention on Governorship and National Assembly elections thereby directing scarce resources and time to those ones and further weakening the power of the United-in-Corruption Inc. -->PDP. That is a strategy I can live with, till we try again in four years. For now, I see little to no effort and I hope I'm very wrong. |
