I agree with you andromida, ideally states should be able to deal with this issue and decisively too, but that's where the problem of our lopsided federalism comes in. States are at the mercy of the FG, they are not just tied to FG apron springs financially, but even politically they are dependent on what the FG does in so many ways.

In this case, the situation and strong support from the traditional institutions presents a good opportunity, like Kobojunkie said. It's now up to both the FG and northern state governments to show leadership and help those children.

With a majority in the senate and in the north, I see no reason why the PDP House of Assembly can't aggressively fight to implement this.

Vice chancellors and university administrators need to get creative with fund raising. It is a shame that they ignore the army of alumni networks they possess while focusing only on Abuja for funding.

I know people who graduated from universities abroad 40 years ago but still get regular mail from their US and UK schools asking them to support the school. Universities keep those contacts because their existence depends on it.
