MICHAEL BOLTON - When A Man Loves A Woman

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has said that President Muham-madu Buhari would extend bailout to states to enable them offset backlog of salaries and liabilities crippling their economic activities across the country.

He made this known yesterday in Makurdi, the state capital,
during separate meetings with students and other union leaders from the Benue State University, BSU.

Ortom further revealed that his predecessor, Gabriel Suswam left behind a debt burden of over N90 billion for his administration, contrary to the N9.2 billion debt as claimed by the former governor.

Benue is among the distressed states in the country. Others
include Osun, Enugu, Kaduna, Plateau and Imo. Most of the
states or their local governments are said to be owing between four to six months salaries of workers amounting to several billions of Naira.

However, according to Ortom, “the list of the debt (left behind by Suswam) include N50 billion incurred from ongoing contracts, N18 billion on certificated contracts, N12 billion on salary arrears and about N10 billion for bonds and bank facilities and loans.”

He stated that the President had agreed to avail the states some lifeline but noted that Benue State government had concluded arrangements to borrow funds to pay one month of the backlog of salary arrears across board and to also ensure the take off of both the executive and legislative arms of government.

He said the decision was prompted by the need to demonstrate to the state work force that he was determined to address their problems and to persuade striking tertiary institution workers to call off their four-months-old strike.

Earlier, President of the BSU Students’ Union Government, Bobby Taver-shima, had lamented that students of the university had been at home for four months but assured that they would not do anything to jeopardize the administration.

Also, a representative of the National Association of Nigerian
Students, NANS, Gideon Obande appealed to Ortom to clear
arrears of bursary owed students in order to alleviate their
sufferings.

At 9am this morning I heard an unusual cry and screaming from a compound next to mine. I moved closer and after a close observation I discovered a guy was trying to rape a girl. I quickly called on my cousin and I swiftly climbed over the fence and shouted at whoever it was to come out, immediately a young girl ran out crying with blood in her mouth and bruises on her body and young boy came out sweating and started explaining without any question from me that he was only playing with her.

I asked the girl, and she said the boy was trying to rape her. The guy was a gateman while the girl was a maid in that house so I quickly asked for their boss's number and put a call throughtto him and luckily their boss was still within the Estate and before 10mins time he showed up and we took the guy to the police station! he started crying and begging that is the devil's handwork And that was when he mentioned that he is 25yrs old and the gal is just 17yrs old, what a pity!

As I post this now the boy is already in the police station crying and wishing he could turn back the hands of time but it is too late cause I am ready to follow this issue up and make sure he is prosecuted. Sometimes I wish there was a special way that we could get to look into the hearts of the people we choose to date and fall in love with so that we can be able to see if they really mean what they tell us, what they plan for us and even to save our hearts and ourselves from future pain, wasted time, headache, and a heartbreak.

You know why am saying that? It’s because you can meet
someone, you find them so attractive and interesting, you like
their characters, you develop feelings for them and within no
time you give them your heart. You trust them, you rely on them, you plan your future with them, you struggle to make them happy and feel loved, you become addicted to them, they change you and you make big adjustments in very many things in your life just because you truly love them and for the good of your relationship with them. But out of the blue they completely change.

They portray their true colors, they become so hard on you and eventually they break up with you with no mercy at all. They leave you with chronic pain and unforgettable memories, they forget all the promises they made to you and they don’t give a damn about your crying heart and the time you spent together. They just hate you for no good reason and they treat you like a total stranger. IT REALLY HURTS SO MUCH.
