The correct way to go about this is to remove the injectors and service/clean them quarterly.
If you use injector cleaners, you'll suffer the repercussions.

If he had tried using injection cleaners, we may soon brace up stories of 'how to solve P0171, P0174 amongst others.'

Dear nairalanders, please help.

I have a 2010 accord that I believe is consuming too much fuel.
A full tank (18gallons) does 220miles without a/c (i.e 12 mpg approx.)

The car was taking very long to start. U have to crank it for about 10seconds before it starts. But this has been fixed.
The Mass air flow (air flow meter) sensor was replaced, and the fuel injectors were also replaced to fix the issue with starting.

Recently, the check engine light came up again. Hooking up a scanner, I have a PO420 code (catalyst efficiency below threshold bank 1).
But what is bothering me majorly is that the fuel trims are in the high negative (from -8 to -15), both short term and long term fuel trims.

Please what could be the issue.
Any help will be appreciated.

Bro, get a watch repairer,or a computer accessory shop, ask him/her if he/she has car remote battery or CMOS battery, if they say yes, give them your remote to open and replace the battery. The battery should be same serial number as yours.

NOTE: I'm not liable to any damage arising from improper handling of the remote fob.

If you`v ever observed, countries where Unleaded Fuel are found in all Refilling Stations has no use for Fuel Injector cleaner, carefully look at their automobile shops you won`t find one cause they have zero used for them. Here we are in our dear country where you can not even tell if what you are buying in some Refilling Station is engine oil or fuel. A black man can do anything to make triple gain. I`ve been a victim of one with my Honda Accord and I must say, it wasn`t a funny experience knowing you paid for full tank and you were given 30% OIL and 70% Fuel, my injectors paid ultimate price for that silly mistake I made.

Calm down dude! If anything, i owned same truck for a year and NO issue came up I sold it and gave the elderly man guide on how to maintain it, 3 weeks ago, he came to do oil change. Truck is still in same state as I sold it to him. The only things he had changed were brakes, oils, tyre and MAP sensor.
Besides, I'm educated enough to differentiate between American and British English. Gasoline is American English for Petrol.

To substitute this therefore, it is required of you to procure fuel injector cleaner or fuel treatment, whatever name they call it. There are varieties of them out there from N400-N600, Abro or any other brand works like magic. Buy and pour in your gasoline tank when you refill half or full tank.

Its meant to run on gasoline and it doesn't mean you should add snake oil or some random additives that will ultimately destroy silicon/rubber sealants, block injector nozzles and create unnecessary problems.

No I didn't scan it. But last month I discovered dat the gear oil was leaking just a little bit but only wen I'm in motion. My mech said it's a bad seal n it will require taking out some eggine parts which dey in my present only to discover dat the net like thing (catalytic) in the 4 cylinder manifold was not there. Just like I said yesterday, is the net like thing together or it can be bought separately. It's something like this. Waiting ur reply thanks.

You buy the manifold (the manifold usually have the catalytic converter inside them. Also ensure your O2 and AF sensors are in good working order.

Good day guys in the house. Hope you all are having a great day. I just need your take on this b4 I venture into the market with my mech. I drive a Camry 03/04 model. Since I had it, I spend a little more on fuel. This had made me to use the a/c occationally. So my mech took out the part that has the 4 cylinder just opposite the radiator and found out that the catalyst wasn't in it. My question is: Can this be responsible 4 burning more fuel? Can the catalyst be bought separately or it comes together with the 4 protruding manifold cylinder?

Did he scan it and assertion that they were inneficient?

Hey dude no make me vex, we get electrical engineers yet they can't fix a simple light bulb, we have PHd Mech engrs, yet they can't drain and fill up engine oil, we have civil engrs and structural engrs, yet no sky scraper, just a common bungalow and its collapse news we have always, a computer engineer, we never see conputer robot programme yet, na Engineering by theory not engineering by practicals na wetin dem sabi. Yes, the sound is coming up small small, but it doesn't have the crackle and spitting /rumbling music a V8 gives when revved.

What engine is your car using?
If your electrician has cut and joined wires in a book haram bomb style, DONT, if your engine intake has leaks on the hose, DONT, if none of these are present, drive the car for a while to warm up the engine, then take the car to a reputable car wash centre to steam/pressure wash the engine, start the car again to allow it heat up well and pressure wash the engine to rid it of dirt and dust.

Remember, a very dirty oil and mud stained engine and radiator will affect even heat distribution to the engine and proper cooling/passage of air thru the radiator fans.
