Flobyt, a free WiFi service installed across public spaces like restaurants, parks, taxis, buses etc was officially launched last week with Mavin Records CEO Don Jazzy and Dele Odufuye CEO of Tsaboin as co-founders. According to the co-founder, Dele Odufuye, “Flobyt is 100% free for the users and our partner locations, all you have to do is walk in and log in. In fact, our working slogan is ‘Don’t use your data, use ours. We know that this is not the first free WiFi proposition in Nigeria. However, we have state of the art technology, speed, security and speed to make it an enduring one. ” Flobyt is currently installed in various locations across Lagos. Speaking of Bandwidth, Flobyt can currently accommodate 10 – 30 users in low-traffic places, while places with higher traffic go up to 80 users at once. However, the only problem here is, public Wi-Fis are mostly unencrypted, making it possible for anyone to hack into every data sent over the network. Speaking on this issue, Co-Founder Dele said Flobyt WiFi has been encrypted to ensure security over the network. It seems 'awon-iya aye' have finally caught up with Samsung. After weeks of bad rep because of the Galaxy Note 7 explosion issue, it is now looking into an incident that happened on Indian airline IndiGo’s flight from Chennai to Singapore earlier this week. India's Directorate General of Civil Aviation said that passengers on the flight smelled smoke coming out from an overhead baggage bin and alerted the cabin crew. It was later discovered that there was smoke and sparks coming from a Galaxy Note 2 which was kept inside a bag in the bin. IndiGo said that there was no fire and that the cabin crew used a fire extinguisher out of caution and then put the phone in a container filled with water. Samsung has acknowledged that it is looking into the matter, saying “we are in touch with relevant authorities to gather more information.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JPORdBTVq50 The Directorate General has now said that it’s going to send an advisory to all airlines; "We advise flyers to exercise caution while flying with Samsung Note devices . They should either keep these devices switched off or not travel with them," This is the first of such report about the Galaxy Note 2 as it’s not believed to have battery defects like the Galaxy Note 7. Samsung released the Galaxy Note 2 back in 2013 and it no longer sells this handset officially. Source - Naijatechs.com |

Following various complains of exploding Galaxy Note 7s, Samsung has officially launched a new site to let Galaxy Note 7 owners easily know if their device is safe or not. It comes about two weeks after Samsung started recalling all Galaxy Note 7 handsets worldwide due to exploding battery issues. More than 80 Galaxy Note 7 smartphones users have complained of overheating due to the battery issues in just the US alone, and some users have reported battery explosions that have been blamed for fires in a car amongst many more. READ ALSO : The iPhone 7 Is Already Having A Problem The US Consumer Product Safety Commission officially announced a formal recall of all Samsung Galaxy Note 7 on Thursday. This new site lets you enter your note 7 IMEI number to see if it is affected by the dreaded explosion disease. You can find this by dialing *#06# on your Note 7 or by checking the Note 7 box. Samsung also introduced a green battery icon on safe Galaxy Note 7 devices. The battery icon on safe Note 7s will change from white to green on the status bar, the 'always on' display screen, and the power off prompt screen. Samsung is also marking all safe Galaxy Note 7 devices with a square symbol on the packaging of the box. Although, Samsung's green battery icon can be easily bypassed by unscrupulous sellers using third-party Android themes or apps, the company's new online tool is the best way to ensure you don't buy a Note 7 that would randomly explode. If you're attempting to buy a used Galaxy Note 7 then I would advice you to check the IMEI before purchasing it. To know if your Note 7 is safe, check it here. If you find out that your device is affected with the explosion issue, its better you return it immediately, to prevent damage to lives and properties. Source - Naijatechs |
Remember two years ago when the iphone 6 was released, the device was found to have bending issues nicknamed "BendGate". Thankfully, we won't have to worry about the iPhone 7 having the same bending issues the iPhone 6 did, but it has its own problem too. Less than two week after its launch, some users of the recently launched iPhone(First noticed by Stephen Hackett from 512 Pixels) have been complaining of a hissing sound coming from the motherboard. And now, this particular problem is called the "Hissgate". Watch the video below and listen to the sound yourself. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogs_g9BlGQc This hissing sound is being triggered when the iPhone’s new A10 Fusion processor is being pushed hard by certain games and other demanding apps. At the moment it is unsure if this problem affects all iphones 7s, but according to Stephen, Apple said they’d replace his device after he reported the issue. If this issue is not quickly solved, it could serious problem for Apple just like the explosion issue of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7. source - Naijatechs |

According to a recent Press release, MTN Nigeria’s recent acquisition, Visafone has started testing of its fourth generation long term evolution (4G LTE) internet technology service for users. This is a much anticipated development for all MTN users, and to those who have been waiting to test the speed of 4G network. MTN claims that the test-run will be available for now to existing Visafone subscribers that switched from CDMA network to MTN's GSM network. “When we roll-out fully, especially with our 2.6 GHz spectrum, the launch will help to enhance customer experience for our over 60 million subscribers, while ensuring greater coverage, access, affordability and ultimately a smart lifestyle for everyone,” For now there is no information as to when MTN 4G LTE service will be fully rolled out but for now, it is already being tested in Ibadan, Lagos and Abuja. If you recently migrated from Visafone CDMA network to MTN, you should have 4G Active. Source - http://www.naijatechs.com/2016/08/mtn-begins-4g-lte-testing-in-nigeria.html

Smartphones are your best friends but when they have bad batteries they can be really frustrating. Not many people know that how you charge your smartphones battery affects it on the long run. If you charge it wrongly, you are likely to notice a drop in its performance. Charging your smartphone in the wrong way could result in charging for long hours and getting only minutes of usage.... It can be that bad, that's why you need to take care of your battery by charging your phone in the right way. The following charging practices can damage your battery; Charging Overnight:- This particular practice have raised a lot of arguments, some people believe it doesn't affect your battery health and some say it does. It is 'unwise' to charge your phone through the night. Regularly charging your phone overnight puts a strain on your battery and this degrades the battery. Charging From 0 - 100% At Once:- This is one thing that almost everybody is guilty of. You have a dead phone, 'NEPA' bring light and you immediately plug your phone in and leave it there till it reaches 100%. Even though this seems harmless, charging for long periods of time damages your battery. Read Also: 8 Tips To Extend Battery Life Of Smartphones Completely Draining Your Battery:- To get the most out of your battery, you should try to keep it above of 50 percent as much as possible. Going from a full charge to empty is really bad for your battery. It's advisable to do one full discharge about once a month for "calibration," but don't do it all the time. Using Wireless Chargers:- Wireless charging can be really convenient, but it has its disadvantages. Wireless chargers generate waste heat. And wasted energy heat can really damage your battery. Standard plug-in charging keep your battery in better shape. I have seen and heard of a lot of people complain that when they bought their phones, the batteries lasted long but over time it begins to degrade. Doing these things are what causes it, so try as much as possible to avoid doing them. http://www.naijatechs.com/2016/07/unhealthy-charging-practices-that.html |

Android is an open-source OS meaning people can tweak the OS and change a few things. While this is my favorite feature of Android, sometimes it might work against you as it also makes it easier for hackers and Malwares to access private information on your device. A few weeks ago, I told you about one of the most dreadful malwares in Android history, the godless apps. In today's post, I will be telling you another app you should avoid by all means! Today's culprit is Flash Keyboard, a very popular third-party keyboard app with over 50 million installs and a 4.3 rating on Google play store but DO NOT be deceived by these numbers. A UK-based cyber-security firm, Pentest discovered Flash Keyboard to be asking for Too much permissions, displaying infected ads, asking for administrative privileges in order to make Uninstaller the app difficult, tracking user behavior, and then sending the data to servers in China without the user’s permission. In more simple words, Flash Keyboard app is spying on Android users and security experts have already classified the app as a “malware.” Pentest discovered that the app requires unwanted access such as access to a phone’s Bluetooth connection, WiFi status, geo-location feature, which a normal keyboard app would not require. Also, the app would ask for access to kill background processes, read your SMS messages, show system overlays, or remove download notifications. Pentest says there is no reasons for a keyboard app to need all these permissions. Flash Keyboard also asks for device admin permissions, and it uses these powers to take over your smartphone’s lock screen and show ads even if you don't allow it. To make matter worse, Flash Keyboard secretly transfers data to unidentified servers based in China and other foreign countries. Flash Keyboard also transmits sensitive user data such as the owner’s email address, device manufacturer, Model number, IMEI number and Android version to what it believes to be analytics servers in the US, Netherlands and China. It also sends details of the current connected Wi-Fi network and other networks in its range, identity of the mobile network being used and GPS coordinates(Location) of the user. In summary, save yourself from all these troubles and DON'T install FLASH KEYBOARD! It's not like it even has good functions.. If you need a good third-party keyboard app, I recommend you use SwiftKey. http://www.naijatechs.com/2016/07/do-not-install-flash-keyword.html |

As the official launch date of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 draws closer, more and more leaks are beginning to surface. Earlier this week, I shared a few specs of the Samsung Note 7 and today, I'll sharing some leaked images of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 revealed by Evan Blass in a tweet. According to rumors, we should be seeing a dual curved display similar to that of the S7 Edge and S6 edge. The Galaxy Note 7 would also be coming in three color variants: Silver Titanium, Black Onyx and Blue Coral. From the images we have, there isn't much noticeable difference(design-wise) from the Note 5 However there is difference in size, rumors has it that the Galaxy Note 7 would have a 5.7 inch QUAD-HD display and what looks like an iris scanner. As I mentioned in an earlier post, the launch date of the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 is slated for August 2 which is exactly one month from today. http://www.naijatechs.com/2016/07/official-images-of-samsung-note-7.html

Google has finally announced the official name for this year's Android N operating system. Earlier this year, several rumors suggested that Android N would be called Nutella however Google had something different in mind. The next version of Android is officially named Android Nougat 7.0. A ceremony held at the Googleplex this morning showed the Android mascot standing on top of a nougat bar. Unfortunately, the announcement did not come with an official launch date. A nougat is a chewy candy bar with a mixture of roasted nuts and bits of fruit within. Last month, Google allowed people to suggest what Android N should be called, it appears they did use the results - at least they said they did. If you ask me though, I think Nougat is a really terrible name choice. Before I forget, Happy new month guys! http://www.naijatechs.com/2016/07/Android-N-official-name.html

The Samsung Note 7 is Samsung's next flagship device.
