to service.

Politics / I Won’t Defect To PDP, Governor Bindow Insists. by kingsman66(m): 4:14pm On Aug 20, 2018 |
ADamawa State Governor Jibrilla Bindow yesterday
insisted that he has no reasons to defect from the
All Progressives Congress to the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP).
He said reports on his alleged defection were
malicious and baseless.
The governor said that since President Muhammadu
Buhari has done tremendously well, there was no
basis for him to leave APC for another party.
He said he remains steadfast in the bid for
President Buhari’s re-election come 2019 and fully
committed to the APC ideals.
The governor spoke in a statement through his
Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Macaulay
Hunohashi.
The statement reads: “Over the last three years, we
have shown commitment to the yearnings of the
good people of Adamawa State to improve their
standard of living through progressive
implementations of agriculture, health, education,
peace and security, water supply, youth and women
empowerment programmes as well as
infrastructural development.
“And what is especially pleasing for me is that the
people of the state recognise and appreciate our
efforts to make Adamawa a better place for them
and therefore they have supported this
administration in every way possible.
“At the national level, President Buhari has done
tremendously well for this country in security,
economy, fight against corruption, employment,
health, education and infrastructural development.
“Like I have said many times in the past, President
Buhari is the best thing to happen to this country.
He means well for Nigeria. He is passionate about
this country. He is trying to get a great future for
Nigerians So what reasons do I have to defect?”
He said false defection plan reports were planted
by some politicians in order to malign him and
cause mischief.
“These reports are plotted by some politicians who
desperately want him to join the opposition. They
should dump the opposition parties and join me in
APC as they are so fixated to be in the same party
with me.
“They are always welcome to join me in the APC”.
On his part, the Adamawa State APC Organising
Secretary, Ahmed Lawal, described Bindow as the
most loyal member of the party in the state.
He added: “It is worthy of note that he is the first
Senator to join the APC from the PDP over four
years ago.
“Bindow has done so much to move the party
forward and he has made Adamawa State a better
place for all. Therefore, he has the confidence of
every party member as well as the good people of
the state.
“His transparency and accountability to the people
of Adamawa state on how financial and material
resources were expended as well as the distribution
of projects across the states is almost perfect. No
Governor has done so much for Adamawa like
Bindow has in three years.
“Come 2019, the party and the people will ensure
that this true democrat returns as governor of the
state with a landslide victory.” http://thenationonlineng.net/i-wont-defect-to-pdp-governor-bindow-insists/ |

Education / Lecturer Sends Students Out Of Class For Not Buying Textbooks by kingsman66(m): 7:30pm On Jul 04, 2018 |
It was not a good morning for some students of the Faculty of Arts of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife, Osun State, last Monday. A lecturer taking a course titled Poetry in Yoruba Language (YOR 303) sent some 300-Level students out of the class for their failure to buy four textbooks. The lecturer, Dr Benard, of the Department of Linguistics and African Languages, barred defaulting students from attending her lecture because they could not afford to buy the selected textbooks of anthologies of Yoruba poetry, which cost N1,700. The lecturer’s action contravened a directive by the Federal Ministry of Education, barring teaching staff of public tertiary institutions from forcing students to buy textbooks and handouts. To punish the defaulters, Dr Benard conducted a continuous assessment test for a few students who bought the textbooks. The lecturer’s decision caused discontent among students, who queried the lecturer’s decision to bar them from attending the lecture. A student, who spoke under the anonymity condition for fear of being victimised, said: “There is need to educate Dr Benard that this is OAU, where lecturers don’t force students to buy books. Dr Benard is laying too much emphasis on those textbooks as if she authored them. The punishment is unfair to us, because we are not required to buy textbooks.” Another student, who pleaded for anonymity, said: “Since I have been admitted into OAU, this is the first course I would see a lecturer sending students out of the class because of textbooks. I don’t understand, because I know OAU does not force students to buy reading materials or textbooks.” CAMPUSLIFE gathered that Dr Benard, from the outset, promised to punish students who failed to buy the four textbooks. The fate of defaulting students could not be ascertained as at the time of filing in this report. There was no indication the lecturer would conduct a make-up test for the affected students. http://thenationonlineng.net/lecturer-sends-students-out-of-class-for-not-buying-textbooks/ |

President Muhammadu Buhari has directed the
Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, to lead a
Federal Government delegation to Bauchi State
following the windstorm incident which destroyed
1,505 houses in the state capital.
Eight persons have been confirmed dead while 120
others were reported injured in the incident.
Azare, another major town was struck by a major
fire disaster that destroyed a market in the town few
days later.
The delegation, according to a statement issued by
the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity
to the President, Garba Shehu, also includes the

Management Agency (NEMA), Engr. Mustapha
Yunusa Maihaja.
He said the delegation would assess the extent of
damage caused by the disaster.
“Already, NEMA has started mobilising relief items
from its warehouses located in Damaturu and Yola
for onward distribution to those displaced by the
windstorm. The aid materials are expected to reach
Bauchi on Tuesday evening while assessment is
being conducted on the fire incident in Azare,” the
statement said.
In an earlier message on Monday, President Buhari
extended his deepest sympathies to victims of the
