Nimakor: I dont think it is even necessary for PGD PH/MPH at ualberta ( or any cannyUni for that matter). They usually assign advisors/supervisors after admission.
Okay....but don't you know...securing a commitment through backyard strengthEns your app?YOu Just throw app into ocean like that?two of my friends that applied t here...and I spoke to a supervisor on her behalf agreed to fund him already...even though the admission decision hasn't been made...we found out she is being picked!

ExcellentV: Thanks.I mailed a prof in alberta stating my interest in her area of research and asking her the admission procedure, she replied me that I should go ahead with my application if I meet the department requirement.Does it mean she is considereing me as one of her student and how do I keep my communication with her intact?Because she didn't tell me to send anything like my cv or any proposal. What's your thought on this @ all? Thanks
That's a technical way of evading you....reply her that you found out that getting a supervisor is critical to your app success...that you want to find she won't mind you putting her name on your app as your prospective supervisor!
N.a. Chess game....the ball is in her court...send this in response and if you can put a call through to her....it wI'll strengthen

ExcellentV: Pls which of test option is better is it the academic or general test? And what is the duration for the validity of the test?
I did academic I will advise academic cos the professional world would take academic but academic will not take general training. And it's valid for two years.
TravelRe: Travelling To Canada Part 5 by kjbobo: 9:58pm On Oct 22, 2013
kayconsult: kjobo am not disputing ur veiws, but no one is discouraging anyone here from writing proficiency exams. First I gained my admission without ielst or toefl and neither am I applying for scholarship .second, the embassy requires it for visa processing, how come numerous ppl I no plus my self was not disqualified for that? Third, its very rare to see employyers asking u to tender proficiency scores before been granted a iob.
Seems you missed my poInt...I said it strengthens applications and it might be looked into to add points to already weak application...both at embassy and schools...I was told by the school not to write...but thank God a Nigerian
prof in my school advised me to write..and with 35k Naira...i got scholarship of $20k plus cos of it....I don't think you won't like that?
And most decent jobs...especially one that will require interacting with people like Pharmacy,Medicine and the likes most time requests...
Its a definite requirement for Pharmacy!
Bros...with the way they treat immigrants on jobs here...they might not tell you IELTS is why they arnt giving you the job!
But imagine you go for an interview competing with an European who couldn't speak English well and they saw that in your app you had IELTS...you can be considered cos of that!
You have got nothing to loose writing it but might mSis an opportunity not writing it!
TravelRe: Travelling To Canada Part 5 by kjbobo: 9:22pm On Oct 22, 2013
kayconsult: Hi Detola, I graduated from BU also. U do not need toefl or any letter of proficiency from BU, ur excempted from all that since u studied entirely in english language for more than 3 years. If university of alberta is requiring that, then consider another uni or college for your program. Life ain't hard.
I disagree with you...my school didn't require IELTS or TOEFL.... But did it and later realized it was going to be used for scholarship...which I might have missed if I didn't write it.
Secondly, embassy lists it as one of the documents that can strengthen your application
Thirdly, when I got here, realized some jobs will ask you to show you are proficient and tendering that will suffice!look at it...Nigerian schools arnt that recognized on rating,so tendering your proficiency in English might not convince your employer...but IELTS is their Pali and will help.
I found out that my pharmacy exams here requires IELTS with specific score!can't imagine trying to write that now with school and it's even more expensive!
My friend is in Alberta, and wrote it to strengthen is app.
My advice:writing it,can help and you have nothing to loose...but not doing might get you into trouble!
TravelRe: Travelling To Canada Part 5 by kjbobo: 9:12pm On Oct 22, 2013
detolaa: @kjbobo and others in the health field, please do I need to write toefl or I get a letter of proficiency in english from my school,it was waived for some schools e.g olabisi onabanjo uni, igbenidion uni, Unilag etc . I graduated from Babcock Uni, I'm applying for post graduate diploma in public health at University of Alberta
I responded to your mail

Vision2GO: Hello allofus, Chrigo and other generals in the house, I salute, I beg I want to ask, after how long should one start getting worried if one applied online with no feedback, and what next can one do as a follow up measure? I applied on the 4th Oct, and nothing yet; bearing in mind that it takes an average of 15days for the online applications so far in the house..............
I think you shouldn't be. Too early in worrying....just months back....3-4 months was standard.....October n.a. Just here bro.......

ChriGo: .....@kjbobo tot of the nursing thing u said the other time and i know some peeps on this forum mite be shaking by now grin...please check this link and tell me what you think about it biko www.albertacanada.com/immigration/immigrating/ainp-eds-international-graduate-criteria.aspx ..........if an occupation falls within that list(pdf list) in that link then provincial nominee program isn't gona be friendly....waiting ur response oga mi.....
That was the link I was referring too...the prob with health programs here..it sort of guarantees you job....and the easiest of all the med programs seems to be nursing and a lot of Africans are going for it....esp the PRs....I met a woman who did eng in Naija...came into through PR and now in nursing...since I came...I have met at least 5 in the prog...and a couple to join soon....with that happening in Alberta... They might want to protect their citizens....
But your course no dey list of inelligible now?
As regards the nursing.....heard from a Canadian....and I think it's fresh

Siga: ... Only in the case of Provincial Nominee oooooo .... read the terms now... u promised to bring ur skills and talent to the Province to help them grow.... that's why they select u now.... after u chop cito(citizenship)... u can waka... but the idea is that by that time...u would have settled down in the Province and wont wanna move...
That makes a whole lot of sense....now I got to think before I chook head grin
Thanks for the info

Siga: ... The 10yr thingy,..... for instance...if u plan to apply for PR 2013.... and u had work experience from 2002... u cant use it.... its over 10yrs u had it.....hope this is clear...
Okay....I got you.
Thank you boss....
TravelRe: Travelling To Canada Part 5 by kjbobo: 2:21pm On Oct 19, 2013
Siga: ...But guys be guided... if u do Provincial Nominee...u are tied down for the Province till u become citizen...
Thanks....never knew...does that mean I cant work anywhere else?
TravelRe: Travelling To Canada Part 5 by kjbobo: 2:18pm On Oct 19, 2013
Siga: @joseph1013 ... Keep in mind 1yr PGD is 8months... and u are only getting 8months Post work permit... Now, if after ur studies u are lucky to find a job and U have prior work experiences outside Canada that is not older than 10yrs I believe... u can apply for ur PR immediately... while ur PR application is in process... even if ur work permit expires... u are legally entitled to stay and keep working by the virtue of ur PR application....

I am not talking out of thin air ok... I did it... my work permit actually expired and I worked till it was approved by which time my work permit done kaput months ....so... na confidence and Baba God
Oga Siga I hail ooooo....u awake?sure you waiting for your beloved Arsenal's game grin
Please can you clarify on the 10yr work experience thingy?and does it apply to all provinces?
Thanks boss

ChriGo: .....hahahaha @Mcdonald job.....thats true ooo. If person go study nursing go file with Mcdonald job na OYO.....yes not all provincial nominee program open at a time but i seem to be very conversant with manitoba province....its provincial nominee program opens at anytime....Thank God ooo na kuku alberta be my aim before, cuz job propect dia high like high tension wire....lol....and if no one is protected under alberta provincial law i know Chrigo is surely protected grin....chai!! Why dem remove nursing from the list na.....alberta fall my hand sha....Make i go chop my PR sharpally before dem go comot information technology too from the list biko....lol....Thanks alot for the info.....
It still depends on course too....I know Manitoba Pharmacy nominee was put on hold from 2011...a friend was planning to apply and he was told it was on hold....
TravelRe: Travelling To Canada Part 5 by kjbobo: 2:08pm On Oct 19, 2013
ChriGo: ....No break law oga mi...make e no be say na inside toilet u go hide no be church grin.....Thanks 4 da info...but what about the jan 2014 package they have for we international student....have they finally decided on it ?.....
You referring to the open work permit?we hearing its finalised but it is yet to be made official...it makes sense cos you guys ain't going to be on any 6month restriction......and I will gladly drop the scholarship for that arrangement....it pays in the long run....And the open work permit is cos of the budget cut on education for next year in Alberta.......so int'l students are being heavily billed for tuition....and it might get worse next year.....my school took a lot of int'l students this year cos of cash....they currently pay 4 times more than the citizens!so I have a feeling it will remain same from next year....so if you get plenty money to pay.....apply to Alberta govt schools
Dem need money cheesy
TravelRe: Travelling To Canada Part 5 by kjbobo: 1:50pm On Oct 19, 2013
ChriGo: ......@joseph1013...who talk am say dem go deport you make i go break bottle for em head.....hope its not dat sure boss onye oma grin.....that "deport" word wey u use fit scare person to death biko even me sef dey fear....lol.....its always advisable to go for a 2yrs postgrad diploma course just like am doing...lol....2yrs diploma course makes you qualify for 3yrs postgraduate work permit instanta....within those three years of work u can file for your parmanet residence(PR) which is automatic....but there is something we call provincial nominee program...its been conducted by the province itsef to make PR faster for an applicant....this is were the employer comes in....and this is also wia 1yr PGD comes in....when u opt for a 1yr PGD course if after completion u're lucky to secure a job offer instanta then ur employer can help you file for PR tru the provincial nominee program.....at that point, since ur liver don high say u don get permanet job then u can apply for a work permit(remember that work permit dem go issue u would be 1yr)....so within that 1yr of work ur PR go dey pending....before that one year work permit elapse ur PR go don surface....lol....dis is what i call calculated move....buh what if u finish the 1yr year PGD and weren't lucky enuff to secure a job offer nko? Then at that point u go sharpally go do another 1yr PGD so that u can file for 3yrs postgraduate work permit....This life na calculation sha.....
The job must be in related field with your degree...no be McDonald's job you go use file ooo grin. Not all provinces. Have the nominee program open at a time...so you have to know what the province is doing per time.
Chrigogogo....you dey covered under the Alberta Provincial nominee program....it's coming in newly...and international students are clearly captured there...however sadly, some courses have been removed from the list...remembered a friend told me yday that nursing isn't there anymore(Nigerians doing nursing here reach 1million!) and I can remember some engineering courses have been removed.....

Chilling for 6months.... And I ain't encouraged to work on campus...cos the kind of scholarship dem gimme....If I do any job on campus...they will subtract from the scholarship grin
Although the number needed to apply for the permit I have already(cos I am an employee of the school as T.A
You wan make I break law grin?

ChriGo: ....This is the exact stuff i read some times ago....working beyond the required hours fit lead to this....quite sad they had to make them scapegoats for breaking that law cuz i know alot of hustling naija peeps go don break that law ten times over......as for ChriGo na 20hours perweek jeje grin....not in a rush.....may God ease there sponsors the pain and bless them in a better way.....
Their case was working before the "six months" expiration!they spent 500days in the church...I have been following the story for a year now...really
