grabeconnie:
Does CIC discriminate against applicants with private school admissions?

Please I need your input on this please. It is urgent. The bosses in the house
Discrimination is probably not the word but I will strongly advise you consider the rep of the school cos coming to Canada is just a tip of the iceberg....settling down in Canada is very much another...so some schools don't qualify you for post grad work permit.
Which means you are sent back home after the program. So if you have plans of heading back home after your program, then you are good to go.
But I get concerned these days cos I see a number of young guys that can be more useful back home using their prime years to evade Immigration.

einsteino: Please house i need informed advice. i had all my mind set on university of alberta but as it is U of A isnt offering taught masters program and i dont think i am ready for the stress of research based masters. i stumbled into MUN(memorial uni) and the tution there is really cheap but one thing that scares me is its position on the world ranking (601) compared to U of A that is 96. my fear is, would i be able to secure a job in canada easily with a masters degree from MUN
In addition to what Oga Siga said...finish with Distinction in MUN....and place your cert side by side with 3.0 in U of A for a position. ...and tell me who stands a better chance from a "natural" standpoint. .lol

i pretty much cant tell about those in london, but Canada's tax is more than that of u.s.
Total taxes in Canada vary based on province..so you can't generalize Canada being more than U.S....for instance,Alberta is 5% as compared to 13% in Ontario or 15% in Nova Scotia

pampem: Hi dear Bros / sis,

I would like to appreciate everyone on this thread. Well done. So sorry if I am taking the forum back again

I am new here. Been thinking of how to go about gaining admission into canadian school.
Been on Google checking up schools and the likes but majorly most schools require GRE or toefl.

I have a bsc economics (4.35 cgpa) and Msc Economics ( 63B) from oau.

Then I remembered my experienced peeps here.

My questions:

Please would appreciate if any1 knows universities that waives gre / toefl and gives admission for masters and phd that I can apply to.

Is it favourable to leave a banking job to pursue masters / phd abroad

And do I go in for a 2nd masters n nproceed to Phd or am I good to apply for phd straight away. Pls I need. Your advice and schools that waives gre as am looking at fall 2015.

Your kind assistance and response is highly appreciated
As regards asking if you should leave your job...I don't beleive anybody can tell you here. ...you gonna ask God for counsel. ..met people of late who regret leaving naija...so If God backs you up and you have right convictions then go for it but if you are double minded about it...will advise you have a rethink. ...Just wanna advise that you should not state your masters in your application if you are going for another one...na red flag!
Wish you the very best

BaaleofMontreal:

most schools in canada waive gre/toefl for Nigeria.

I think you can proceed to PhD since you've already done masters. visit this website; www.aucc.ca to look for universities in canada, courses and requirement then you'll have to contact graduate advisers of the schools by email stating your qualifications and the course and level of studies you intend to do.

Goodluck
TOEFL?Yes but GRE?are you sure?cos GRE and TOEFL arent testing same thing.most business related courses still request GRE except its below standard program

Amefrica: Mehhn! Words can't express how glad and happy I am right now. After been denied US Student VISA (3 times) and Canada once, I still didn't give up. Mehhn! E nor easy oo..

Below are the documents submitted;

My Uncle is my sponsor, we bear different surnames. My documents are very little.

1st application;

0. The application forms

1. 2 SOAs (6 months) --- personal and business. Personal: 3.3m, business 4.3m. Both have good flows of transactions with over 250m (total credit)

2. CAC docs (Note: this is the only proof of his biz I submitted.) No tax clearance nor invoice.

3. Letter of Sponsorship in his business letter headed paper, signed and stamped.

4. Affidavit of Support.

5. WAEC

6. SOP

7. $100 tuition deposit receipt (as requested by school).

8. Passport photo

9. Int'l passport

10. Mum's birth cert, showing same birthname (surname) with my sponsor.

Denial --- "I am not convinced you will leave Canada at the end of your stay" so they ticked "Purpose of Visit" only as the reason.

2nd appllication..

I didn't touch any of my documents, didn't even update my SOA, it started October and ended May. I submitted all like that.

The only thing I touched is my SOP, thanks to lindyque, missbon, beulah hephzibah. The SOP is a killer grin

My advice to applicants is, try to fill the online forms very well, there were error in my former app forms but I took my time the 2nd time and filled everything correctly.

Thanks all for ur congratulatory messages. I'm most grateful!
Congrats

Now it makes more sense the saying that "Visa na just the first step"...please. ..up your game as you land. ...as you are enjoying Canny...please think long term. .the two years on your TRV "flies"...and if you don't have concrete plans....your post grad work permit will follow same trend....I am beginning to see there are quite a number of naija peeps running from province to province to evade immigration. ...if we don't plan...before you know it....it will happen! In the multitude of counsel. ..there is safety!
Safetrip to Fall applicants...anyone coming to Lethbridge can buzz me...if you need help.

I worked at Amazon in the UK during my undergrad, it was tough, i was on weekend shift only and weekdays I stayed overnight sometimes in the Library to catch up with assignments. it is tideous, yes but not impossible and I did come out tops in my class. I am not saying it is easy, all i am saying is it is possible. I checked some school vacancies in Canada and they had a call centre that runs 3 hour shifts after classes so I am saying what i researched.
Totally true...I currently work in a Pharmacy...and l do three hours daily...I think what we might need to cut down on...is frivolous times spent on social media...to be able to accommodate such work plus school time...but like Chrigo said...I will not advise jumping into working just because you have work authorization....please...the "assignments" are killing. ...secure your acada first....cos if you trade 10bucks per hour for good grades. ... lipsrsealed
