Roxettes Paint, one of the products of Roxettes Chemical Industries Ltd. on Thursday, 9th December, 2021 achieved a new milestone as a leading brand in the industry when the Standard Organisation of Nigeria, SON certified the product. The Director-General of SON, Malam Farouk Salim, said the Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme (MANCAP) certificate is a confirmation that Roxettes paint is fit for Nigeria market. Salim, who was represented by Engr. Francis Onyeji, SON Coordinator in charge of Ebonyi and Enugu States, said "Roxettes Chemical Industries Ltd products has fulfilled all the requirements of Nigeria Industrial standard and the public shouldn't entertain any fear using their products because today, they're MANCAP certified and that's why we're presenting this certificate to the company to tell them weldon for meeting the standards and even going a step beyond the set mark in national quality. "We enjoin the general public to patronise their products and others that are MANCAP certified- which is a guarantee of quality. In her remarks, Mrs. Roseline Onoh, the Head of Chemical Department, Enugu and Ebonyi States SON Office said the journey of quality between the Organisation and Roxettes Chemical Industries Ltd started in April 2019. Mrs. Onoh applauded the company for their prompt response to any observed 'non conformity'. "When we come for inspections (which is done every quarter), any issue of non conformity raised is addressed in record time and subsequently, during the cause of the inspections, samples were collected and sent to our SON lab in Lagos for comprehensive analysis. "Paint is one of the products with the highest number of parameters- up to 25, and this will tell you the herculean task they went through to get this certification. Roxettes products was able to meet the whole requirements and that gave birth to MANCAP." She enjoined Roxettes Chemical Industries Ltd not to deviate from the quality they have set and let that be their watchword. In his response, the Chief Executive Officer of Roxettes Chemical Industries Ltd, ARC. Kaycee Orji expressed happiness for the certificate and said it will spur them to do more. He maintained that they're not ready to drop their quality because it has brought them constant growth. "We want to assure SON that we're not planning to deviate from this quality that we're known for. The product has entered the market, thus, we can't do anything to reduce the quality and we never had that in mind when we were creating the formula. We created this product to bridge the gap in the market and as a contractor, this is what I use for my projects, therefore, reducing the quality will affect me too." Speaking further, Orji said the management and staff of the company are confident that the MANCAP certification would give its paint products more credibility and will make its marketing easier within and outside the country. “Apart from the fact that you know that your products are of high quality; you feel good and encouraged when a government agency like SON recognises and attests to its quality through MANCAP certification among similar competing products in the market." Speaking on the quality of Roxettes Paint, Orji revealed that "their products are outstanding; have the highest anti-fungal dosage; are highly weather resistant and give wide coverage and spread, thus giving customers more value for their money and also help them save more. https://journalist101.com/2021/12/12/roxettes-paint-gets-son-mancap-certification/

The 9th Mile crash borehole programme was comatose and its major installations have been vandalised, occasioning grossly inadequate clean portable water supply to Enugu citizens." The Governor highlighted the progress made by his administration in providing clean water to Ndi Enugu, these includes; Emergency rehabilitation of Oji and Ajari water schemes, resulting in the improved water supply to most parts of Enugu city, including: GRA, New Haven, Asata, some parts of Independence layout, Achara layout, Trans Ekulu and Coal Camp areas, etc. Construction of additional water boreholes in Nsukka and this has led to great improvement in water supply in Nsukka urban. Some of the tankers that will be used for the Water on Wheels project Construction of water pipeline extension in many streets and communities in Enugu Urban and Nsukka due to increased water supply Complete rehabilitation of 9th mile crash borehole programme that's fully powered by solar energy. Rejigging and retooling of Enugu State water cooperation to ensure a competent, well equipped and well motivated workforce. Ugwuanyi also stated that; "Bidding processes for drilling of 10 new solar energy powered boreholes in Okwojo Ngwo is on course and Enugu State Government participation in AFD, French development agency support to third national urban water sector reform project will deliver end-to-end water supply solution to Enugu metropolis. Withing the project implementation plan, the detailed engineering design of works component of the project is in progress and a tender for rehabilitation of Oji and Ajari water schemes, including water treatments and other works will commence by the end of this year. "The dilapidated water pipeline network in Enugu metropolis will be replaced with new ones while new estates development and unserved neighbourhood will be connected to the public water supply system. The Governor also expressed his appreciation of "the role of Ingrace Water on wheels initiative in ensuing that our people have access to clean, portable water especially, as our administration goes through with the phased implementation of the AFD supported third national urban water sector reform project" and went on to assure "the good people of Enugu State that Enugu water supply challenges will become history as soon as the AFD supported water project comes fully on speed in a few months time." Lawrence Ibeabuchi Ede, the Admin Manager of Ingrace Group while speaking to JOURNALIST101 on how the water on wheels works, said they have been able to break Enugu metropolis into three zones. "We have Ziks' avenue zone that will serve Uwani, Garriki, Agbani and Achara layout. We also have the GRA Zone that will cater for GRA, Abakpa and Trans Ekulu areas and finally, the Independence layout zone that will serve Ogui Road, Emene and Thinkers' Corner." Some of the riders Explaining how customers can order for this water, Mr. Ede said they have been able to deploy a technology in their service delivery. "We have developed an app named 'Water On Wheels' which is available on apple store and goggle play store. Once any customer download and install the app, he should take note of the delivery address because that means where the water will be delivered and not basically where you live except where your residential address is your delivery address. "Customers will be made to pay online and a driver will be assigned to you and within 3-4 hours, your water will arrive at your doorstep." Also commenting on the initiative, Uche Gabriel, the Chairman of EnuguOAPs commended the Ingrace Group for the project, saying that "It represents what we have been saying on air, it's not enough to think that government can do everything. "This is a private sector driven initiative to ameliorate the water crisis in Enugu, we are totally behind it because its progressive and as OAPs who are progressives, we think we should partner with him, we are promoting what he's doing online and we love the project." https://journalist101.com/2021/11/27/firm-launches-water-on-wheels-platform-which-allows-enugu-residents-get-water-supplied-via-online-booking/

The Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority (ECTDA) has ordered all bystanders, hawkers, highway traders and petroleum tankers at Eke Obinagu, along Enugu-Abakaliki-Cameroon highway to vacate all sides of the Trans-African highway within 14 days or face its wrath of demolition and prosecution. The Eke-Obinagu road market has in the recent time brought about perennial traffic congestion, made worse with the menace of petroleum tankers and which in several cases resulted to road crashes, including the recent death of the Ebonyi state commissioner for Infrastructure, Engr. Fidelis Nweze. Chairman of ECTDA, Denge Josef Onoh said that Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu state, after so much effort at controlling traffic at the Eke-Obinagu/ NNPC axis ordered the ECTDA to ensure that the market traders relocate to their designated and developed market adjacent to the NNPC depot which he said they left unoccupied but came out to the road. He lamented that Governor Ugwuanyi as a sitting governor had on occasions personally came down and decongested traffic at the menaced Eke-Obinagu/NNPC junction which he said was embarrassing, yet the illegal road occupiers failed to resiprocate his concern in the area. Onoh further disclosed that his agency has made arrangements for relocation of all NNPC depot tankers and auto mechanics who have occupied the two sides of the Trans-African highway so as to ease traffic and save lives at the congested area. Onoh stated that in line with the agency’s development control mandate, he, in company of the traditional ruler, the Surveyor General of the state, House of Assembly member Hon Hillary Ugwu; Permanent Secretary in the ministry of Transport, Ogbonna Idike and Governor Ugwuanyi’s aides visited Eke-Obinagu, Emene and Abakpa crowded areas where they resented to the impunity violations of city development control in the guise of trading along major streets in the areas. He therefore extended his eviction notice to the remnant traders at the former Oye-Emene market and every street trader along Amuri road, Taxaco and liberty bus stops and all other hawkers along Nike road in Abakpa area of the metropolis. “In the events of these therefore, the Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority hereby gives all illegal markets and shanties that have dominated the Eke-Obinagu/NNPC way 14 days from now to relocate as demolition of the 216 illegal structures, makeshift markets and shanties that have defaced that entire environment and have increased robbery, drug abuse, making it difficult for people with genuine business to move freely. After 14 days, the ECTDA will commence immediate and total demolition of that entire area," Onoh said. He stated that any form of disobedience or resistance will be met with superior force and urged the illegal occupiers of the affected places to comply with the directive. "Anybody that fails to comply does that at his own risk as it is even stated in Romans 13, verse 2 and in verse 59 of Surah An-Nisa in the Quran. They are to move to an already existing Eke-Obinagu market close to them that has been left fallow for years. They refused to go there because they want to trade on the road and on public drainages bringing about flooding in the area. "The same goes to all the illegal shanties and structures along the Rehab road at the former Oye-Emene which will all be demolished. I kindly urge those affected by these activities to quietly and respectively move or they will be moved by force," Onoh notified. On the nuisance at Abakpa, the ECTDA boss said that further demolition will affect all structures built along transmission lines; illegal markets and motor parks built in the area that have turned Abakpa from a well planned city into a slum. We will start from NOWAS junction into Abakpa. "Any bus operating in illegal packs will be impounded, chopped, recycled and sold as scrap metal. All these notices are within 14 days because the past administrations since 1999 had given them notices. We will also continue enforcement in the various layouts that collectively form the Enugu city master plan. "I assure the good people of Enugu state that Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority will not fail to bring sanity and ensure that Enugu maintains it's glory and serenity. To all defaulters I assure them that demolition continues until sanity is restored and I owe no one apology," Onoh said. https://journalist101.com/2021/06/28/enugu-govt-gives-14-days-eviction-notice-to-eke-obinagu-market-traders-nnpc-tankers/

On 5th of May 2021 members of the Adoration Ministry Enugu violently vandalized the residence of the Catholic Bishop of Enugu. The secretariat complex and the Cathedral Church. Since this ugly incident took place, the Church in Enugu has continued to pray for unity and the progress of the work of evangelization in the diocese. In addition to this, the Director Chaplain of the Adoration Ministry, Fr. Camilus Ejike Mbaka, at the fraternal instruction of the Diocesan Bishop, took a period of one month to prayerfully reflect on the challenges that hinder the growth and the future of the Adoration Ministry. Having done this, it is now proper and timely to define the diocesan directives and guidelines that shall regulate the pastoral care and administration of the Adoration Ministry from now forward. For the Roman Catholic Church is a universal institution (Lumen gemium no.13), with order and discipline enshrined in the Code of Canon law and in the particular laws of the particular Church (cf. Ap. Const. Sacrae disciplinae leges). It is a hierarchical Church (Lumen gentium, no. 18)., not any political organization. In this Church, the Pope has supreme, full, immediate and universal ordinary powers, (c. 331) and the Diocesan Bishop possesses the same authority in the particular diocese entrusted to him (Second Vat. Council, Christus Dominus, no.11). The Bishop has the obligation of fostering and safeguarding the unity of the faith and of upholding the discipline which is common to the whole Church (Lumen gentium no.23). Hence, the provisions of c.756 & 2 make the Diocesan Bishop the moderator of the entire ministry of the word of God within the particular Church. Adoration, teaching and healing ministries, belonging to this category, whether directed by clerics or laypersons in Enugu Diocese permitted by the Diocesan Bishop, must remain Catholic in its life and teaching. The Bishop of Enugu Diocese, as chief shepherd, has the responsibility to supervise and issue norms concerning all centres where the word of God is proclaimed (C. 775& 1). As the visible source and foundation of unity. he is to exercise vigilance so that abuses do not creep into ecclesiastical discipline especially in what pertains to the ministry of the word, the sacraments, sacramentals and worship of God (C.392&2). Therefore, to safeguard the integrity of the Church and forestall future abuses in Adoration Ministry, and as necessary conditions for the existence of the Ministry, I hereby decree that henceforth: 1. Christ in the Blessed Sacrament must remain at the centre of worship and not personality cult. 2. Since Christ is the Way, the Truth and the Life, the faithful must be taught to be truthful by word and example. 3. The use of dialogue and prayer, instead of violence, revenge or exchange of words, should be employed in the face of challenges and difficulties in the Adoration Ministry 4. The Adoration Ministry Enugu shall be administered and organized as a chaplaincy: Canonically, a chaplaincy is a special group of Christ's faithful entrusted to a priest in a stable manner who is their chaplain in accordance with universal and particular law (c. 564), The Adoration Ministry Enugu is to be recognized as a chaplaincy in the Catholic Diocese of Enugu under the leadership of Rev. Fr. Camillus Ejike Mbaka. As a Catholic outfit of the Diocese of Enugu, it shall enjoy all the pastoral privileges of the Diocese of Enugu and is to be under the pastoral and managerial obligation of the same Diocese. The Diocesan Bishop has the prerogative to appoint Chaplain and Assistant Chaplain to the Adoration Ministry Enugu or other such ministerial offices in the diocese to assist the chaplains oversee the pastoral activities of the Ministry. He (the chaplain) shall have all the rights and privileges given to him in universal and particular law. 5. The teaching of the Magisterium and knowledge of the Church structure should be central to the Catechesis of the Adoration Ministry. This means that the Chaplain and members of the Adoration Ministry must abide by the teaching and discipline of the Catholic Church as well as its ecclesiastical governance. 6. Administration of sacraments should be preceded by proper and documentation. The teaching of catechism must be made compulsory 7. The Diocesan Bishop shall go on Pastoral Visit from time to time to the Adoration Ministry as is the case with Parishes, in order to assess their spiritual growth. 8. No non-Catholic should play a liturgical role in the Ministry. 9. Effort must be made to nourish the spiritual and moral life of attendees and not just their mundane desires. 10. There shall be no partisan politics either by way of active engagement or by prophetic naming of candidates for positions of power. For in accordance with c. 287 & 2, priests are forbidden from taking part in any form of partisan politics. Likewise, "no one is permitted to harm illegitimately the good reputation which a person possesses nor to injure the right of any person to protect his or her own privacy" (c. 220). https://journalist101.com/2021/06/04/detail-10-point-rules-mbaka-must-obey-to-open-adoration-ministry/ |

Bala Elkana, a Superintendent of Police and the Police Public Relations Officer, Imo command in a statement said the All Progressives Congress Chieftain was killed by armed men on his way to the airport to catch a flight after leaving his hotel. The police spokesman also said that Gulak was killed on Sunday morning around 7am and he never informed them nor sister security agents about his movement. His murder might be politically motivated as the police spokesman said he was killed after he was identified by the assailants that intercepted the cab carrying him around Umueze Obiangwu in Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area close to the Airport. The statement reads: "On the 30/5/2021, at about 07:20hrs, armed bandits intercepted and attacked a Toyota Camry cab carrying Ahmed Gulak and two others who were on their way to Sam Mbakwe Airport to catch a flight. "Ahmed Gulak left his room at Protea Hotel without informing the Police nor sister agencies in view of the fragile security situation in the South East and Imo in particular. He left without any security escorts and while the cab driver took irregular route to the airport, six armed bandits who rode in a Toyota Sienna intercepted, identified and shot at Ahmed Gulak at around Umueze Obiangwu in Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area close to the Airport. "The Commissioner of Police Imo CP Abutu Yaro, fdc has directed a discreet investigation into the matter as Tactical and Special forces have been deployed to cordone the area and arrest perpetrators. Journalist101 recalls that Gulak was in the centre of the controversial APC primaries that produced Hope Uzodimma as the Governor of the state. After the primaries which the incumbent Governor then, Sen. Rochas Okorocha opposed vehemently, Gulak made the following statement: "I don’t have any regret over any action I took during the primaries I conducted in Imo State. I don’t expect Okorocha to be happy with me either because I did not go to Imo to make him happy anyway. I went there to do my job and I did it to be best of my knowledge and ability, notwithstanding the tempting offer I got, but refused. "I can walk the streets of Imo State, including Owerri with my shoulders high. I may not be perfect as a human being, but I did not go there to make him happy. Somebody who offered me up to $2 million to give certificate of return to his nominee, but I turned it down. How many people can turn such offer down? I would have given him the certificate and pocketed my money because it is money that you don’t go to court to retrieve, but my conscience will not be clear. For now, my conscience is very clear. I can move the streets of Owerri unmolested. Although it is over now, however, I can tell you that APC destroyed itself in Imo State. This is story for another day." https://journalist101.com/2021/05/30/police-narrates-how-former-pdp-national-chairman-ahmed-gulak-was-murdered/ |

The controversy over who’s the former deputy governor of Enugu State is far from ending as both Sunday Onyebuchi and Pastor Pastor Ifeanyi Nwoye are laying claim to the position with respect to all the entitlements accrued to the office. In what was daubed ‘Chicken Impeachment’ by the media, Onyebuchi was booted out of office on August 26th, 2014 by the state House of Assembly led by Rt. Hon. Eugene Odoh. Dr. Onyebuchi’s impeachment followed the recommendation of the seven-man Impeachment Panel led by late Chief Judge, Innocent Umezuruike. The panel was set up by the State to investigated allegations of gross misconduct leveled against him by the former governor, Barr. Sullivan Chime. However, on December 19, 2105, Enugu High Court presided over by Justice Reuben Odugu nullified the impeachment and ordered the restoration of his rights and benefits from the time of removal from office to the period his tenure elapsed. But Nwoye in a statement made available to the media insists he’s the legitimate former deputy governor of the State. He said his insistence is premised on the Appeal Court judgment of November 4, 2020 which he stressed, reinstated him as the deputy governor over an earlier judgment of the Enugu State High Court of 2014 that nullified Onyebuchi’s impeachment. He maintained that the Appeal Court judgment had thus validated his position as the former deputy governor and as such, all remunerations due to him as the former deputy governor should be given to him and not his predecessor, Sunday Onyebuchi. “Following the Court of Appeal judgment on November 4, 2020, presided over by three man justices led by Justice Joseph Oluwabunmi K. Kayode JCA which delivered in favour of Pastor Ifeanyi Nwoye, as the rightful former deputy governor of Enugu State under His Excellency, Sullivan Chime administration. ”The Court in her judgment set aside the judgment of the Enugu State High Court in Suit No. E/373/2014 which installed His Excellency Sunday Onyebuchi as the Deputy Governor of Enugu State within the said administration. “The Court therefore ruled that the status of Pastor Ifeanyi Nwoye as a former deputy governor of Enugu State remains intact as he is entitled to all remuneration that is due to him as former deputy governor.” https://journalist101.com/2021/05/21/controversy-over-whos-enugu-former-deputy-governor-continues/ |

I know that 15 percent is already gone and I’m hoping that the contractors will reciprocate the gestures of the Enugu state government. We’re ready to support you. Everybody in the government of Governor Ugwuanyi is in support of this project and we’ll do everything to make sure it works. It’s up to you to give us your word and keep to it,” Mba said. On her part, the deputy leader of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Onyinye Ugwu, applauded Ugwuanyi for financing the project, managing the state and paying workers’ salaries despite the current economic hardship. The Commissioner of Works and Infrastructure, Nnaji, disclosed earlier that the Governor “has graciously approved the payment of 30 percent advance payment for this project and the contractor has confirmed the receipt of this payment running close to over N1 billion. So he has committed both financially, in management and in personnel man power to the success of this project. “On our side, we’re ready to make sure that every aspect of this job is controlled by proper quality control and quality assurance procedure in line with world best practices.” Nnaji appreciated members of the House Committee for coming to monitor the project, assuring to send periodically, records of the monthly progress of the project. Assuring that the project will be delivered on a record time, the GM of IDC construction company, the firm handling the project, Freddy De Kleyn said that they have mobilized over 90% of equipments to site and are ready to give the job their best. He also thanked the state government for having faith in their firm to handle this all important project. https://journalist101.com/2021/05/10/enugu-flyover-construction-on-course-says-enugu-lawmakers-over-90-of-equipments-mobilized-to-site/

...Released date and how reports of poorly constructed government projects can be submitted by members of the public. Saddened by the proliferation of substandard projects in some parts of the state, the Enugu State House of Assembly has began moves to bring such erring contractors and their collaborators to book. The House committee on Works, Housing and Urban Development as part of it's oversight functions, said, they won't tolerate any act aimed at short changing the state. Speaking to Newsmen, the Committee Chairman and the member representing Ezeagu constituency, Rt. Hon. Chima Obieze while thanking the members of the committee and the lawmakers enumerated steps that must be taken in order to hold whoever is found wanting responsible for his/her action(s). Hon. Obieze said: "The first step that must be taken is to encourage the members of the public to come forward with detailed reports of any project done in their in their area in the last 5 years that have failed." These projects according to the lawmakers includes; roads, office buildings and quarters. Going forward, Rt. Hon. Obieze said; "After getting these reports from the members of the public, the next step will be to request for the bill of quantity from the supervising agency or ministry. The next thing will be to visit the site of these projects that members of the public has submitted reports on and see what's on ground and juxtapose it with what's on the bill of quantity. "When all these has been done, the next thing will be to summon the contractor where we feel that the contractor didn't comply with what's on the contract document, so he can explain the discrepancies." The member representing Nsukka West, Dr. Ugwuera Emma in his submission said; "Not only the contractors that handled the job will have questions to answer, even the supervising agency or ministry will have to explain to Ndi Enugu, what happened. We can't fold our hands and watch such monies appropriated for projects been flittered away." Another member of the Committee and the member representing Uzo-Uwani constituency in the house, Dr. Josephat Okika said: "As much as we are trying to check make the contractors that did these projects, it will also be of great benefit if we also look at some of the activities of some members of the public." He called on proper sensitization of the members of the public in helping to keep these infrastructures safe. Another speaker at the media parley, Rt. Hon. Chinedu Nwamba, the member representing Nsukka East Constituency said that the committee will "carry out this particular function that's of great public importance without fear nor favour not minding whoever that's involved." Mary Onyinye (deputy leader of the House) said; "We are haven't been keeping quiet over some of these sharp practices, in the course of doing of oversight functions, we were able to stop the death trap that was being constructed at Obe-agu Amaechi in the name of a bridge. The contractor lost the job immediately the house raised the alarm, sent it to the Governor and the governor said he can't tolerate such act and sacked the contractor and hired another contractor for the job. The Chairman of the Committee pointed out that; "this exercise isn't against only erring contractors, it's also against civil servants or government official that aid such contractors.
