ACTIONSAS: HELLO HOUSE i need an asistant pls, i could not download avg antivirus in my laptop (dell inspiron n5050, windows 7) i've tried several times but it keep on saying an erro has occured,
the worse thing is that i bougth the software from a nearby vendor, to install but it keep on showing same response as to when i was downloading from the internet. that an error occured, instalation could not be compeleted, please help me out!!!

Ur post is a lil bit confusing, is it that u r trying 2 download the A.V or u bought the A.V but it was giving error during installation or is it during downloading. To help us to help u, it will be advisable u post the error message u got for proper interpritation and to profer solutions. BTW which version of AVG are u trying 2 download/install.

That must b a gaming Rig. is it a laptop or desktop? 5GB of graphic memory.....that is much. I only know of Nvidia GeForce Titan that has 6GB of video memory, just because it supports multiple monitors.

OK, I want to assume that u have a system that u will slave to, and that the systems motherboard will support an extra IDE device. Detach ur Hdd with the IDE cable still attached to it from ur system.

On the host system's motherboard, plug ur Hdd to the a free IDE channel (connector), and plug the power connector also. Now if ur host system's motherboard has only one IDE channel, as new motherboards do these days, and may be probably occupied by the host system's drive, say the hard disk, now it then means that u will have to connect the 2 hard drive to one cable. But for d BIOS to recognise the two drives on the same channel, u will have to configure ur hard disk jumper to slave assuming the host Hdd is master, u can achieve this by moving the jumper at the back of ur hardisk to slave or master, it is clearly stated at the back of the drive, bottom line the two hdd must not be of the same jumper configuration. When u r done, start d system enter d BIOS of the host system to be sure it is detected by the system. If it is ok, from the Windows u should be able to c the 2 drives.

sampeke: thanks for the education, i followed ur procedures in attempt to repair the bad os. After repairing it still say unable to boot file not found. One more thing in slaving ur hdd do u need special connectors/cables. Thanks

U may likely need an extra connector, depending on the type of hard drive u have, and also if the Host system can support ur drive, assuming u r using a SATA drive but the host system's motherboard does not support SATA drives. I wouldn't know if ur drive is SATA or PATA(IDE). Please identify the type of hard drive u have or describe the type of data cable running from d drive to the motherboard.

sampeke: My desktop computer running on windows xp have refuse to boot. I tried using window os disk to repair the demand program but it keep tell me to format the system, i can't coz i have important files on ma hdd i don't want to lose. Please i need help on how to backup before formatting. Thanks in anticipation.

ledafaze: It depends on what the problem is. If it is asking you to format as you have said, I would advice you get a new hard drive, mount it to the system and install afresh. After that, slave the other drive or mount as external drive to copy your files.

Incomplete installation can indicate basically two things 1. Hard disk with so many Bad sectors 2> faulty RAM(memory)so it is possible that ur hard disk or RAM is failing, thereby corrupting your OS, or u do not use a UPS for ur system. Before u backup, u should try to repair the OS since it is complaining about a missing file, u can use XP recovery console for this.

Boot from ur XP cd, 2) during installation, at the point of the first "R" i.e the recovery console, hit the "R" button, 3) log on to the windows directory if it is still valid, by pressing 1. 4)it take you to the root directory C:/windows>** 5) type CHKDSK /r and press enter, allow the system to work, it might take some time depending on the speed of ur system, now reboot and c if ur system boots normally, if it doesn't, follow the steps i highlighted above, but now do not use the recovery console, use the re installation option i.e the second "R" it should not prompt u to reformat ur drive, but will hopefully, see a previous windows installation to rebuild.

If ur are successful, windows will be able to boot normally for u to access your files. Now i will still advice you to backup, if u still want to use the drive, do a low-level formatting on the hard disk, if it does not complain about Bad sectors during formatting, then the Hard disk is still usable.

What ledafaze meant by slaving is that u connect that ur hard drive u want to format to a working system, the working system should be the master and your own the "slave" thought the term can be misleading when you do not connect them to the same IDE Channel. Anyway try this and let us know how it goes.

t33why: fan works alrite i think(can hear it). It actually worked again 2dae and later did d same thing again. Beep seems to be coming 4rm the hard drive

I have not seen an internal Hard drive beeping, unless an eternal Hdd that is having difficulty mounting, even at that it doesnt beep. If your Hard drive is SMART enabled it will probably inform you about an imminent Hdd failure, and advice to replace, and since u r not receiving such message, i do not think it is the Hdd, BUT if u r hearing cracking noise then it may probably be ur drive. your fan may be working alright, but the heat sink may be bad, i have seen that happen a lot of time, and if it is memory, it may beep, but not display. Anyway, give it to a tech, this will be best resolved on hand.

t33why: Need help wiv my system plz. 4 dayz back it started making diz beep beep sound and the afterwards everything hangs, so i simply merove the ba3 and everythings fyne again. It stopped 4 some time and later starts again(each tyme removing the ba3 or pressing the power button 4 a while turns it off and i just simply switch it on again). Waz using it 2nite and it suddenly went off and has refused 2 come on again, only continues 2 make d beep sound underneath when i press the power button

I suggest u take it to a Teck, beeping is a way the BIOS tells us there is a problem with our system, and with the number and frequency of beeps, it can direct us to where the problem is coming from, which u can actually decode online. But....it hangs and shuts down, I want to believe ur processor is overheating, so check the cooling system of the laptop, fan probably or a faulty motherboard.

Muyiwa Mike: Somebody should please help me out..my pc is running windows 8..i can easily connect to wifi and browse and also share internet connection wit my ipod 3g bt i can't use dis same wireless to share files between 2 or more systems like in windows 7...someone shud plz bail me out

Did u turn on the Network Discovery and also, turn on file and printer sharing in your private Network profile

1.Uninstall and re-install back. If it worked for Windows 8 it should work for 7, if this does not work get another copy of VLC and install.

2. Ur Windows installation might be bad 3. check if ur VGA is driven, if the vga driver is not installed, install it and check d player again.

4. What type of file are u trying to play with VLC, ur VLC player, might not support that particular file, so download the latest vlc player, download klite mega video codec and install on ur system, run VLC again.

Any activation key given to you here will be invalidated by Microsoft unless it is Genuine, like the other person suggested, ask the person that did the installation 4 u for the product key, on the alternative, u can use an in-built command in Windows 7 to Rearm it, this extends ur activation grace while u look for a Genuine key. U can start from those that sell softwares

Sorry to hear about that, i would have suggested u running a VGA cable from your laptop to an external monitor to confirm if the problem is the monitor...well at this point i will suggest you give it to a technician, to avoid causing more problem.

If a device is abruptly removed from a running system, the system will obviously freeze because an appropriate interrupt was not Initiated. But this will be resolved immediately when the system is shut down and the device replaced back to its logical place.

1. I think you should start first by putting the Optical drive back properly

2. The system does not display, but powers on. Try this, power down your laptop, Locate the memory compartment, remove the memory rub on a plain cloth or your Hair, put back and on your system, and power on. Try this first and lets see how it goes

KnightsTemplar: You can start by disabling ur touch pad and using a USB mouse to check if the problem will still persist, if it stops, you can as well back up ur data on a external drive if u have any, then do a Factory reset, if the problem still persists, then you are looking at a hardware failure, which might be that ur touch pad needs servicing or replacement.

B4 u do the above, try to download malwarebyte update it and scan ur system before anything else.

My wireless is still working because when i went to a cybercafe yesterday i noticed that if i go to settings, the wireless indicator (or icon) there indicated that network is available but when i click on it, no response.Now when i came back to the desktop, the wireless icon on the taskbar was still showing me no available network and also not responding to click as well, so i believe it's an OS problem as U suggested. But my problem with restoring my laptop now is i don't want to lose my installed applications. Please is it possible 4 me to backup the installed applications and restore the laptop?

LapLink PCmover can transfer ur applications from one system to another, i have used it, but you must have a knowledge of Networking, and must have a host system, if this is outside your league, give it to a Technician to solve your problem..

Was the laptop on when it fell from ur hand, do you hear cracking noise when u on it later, if u did, then ur hardisk may b affected.

I want 2 believe that the screen is not broken? If not, unplug the power cord, remove the battery, if u can locate The memory compartment at the back of ur laptop, open it with a tiny star screwdriver, remove the memory stick, I would want to believe it dislodged due to the impact, remove it and place it back, if u have an unoccupied memory slot, put the removed memory card there, put back ur battery, and on the laptop.

Funjosh: the windows is very slow now, so i was planing to reload new windows on it but it will take 2wiks before i can get the bootable disk and the drivers for the system. The last time i shutdown it refuses to load the windows back so am scared of powering of until i was able to get all my files out of it.

It refused to load to windows or took a lot of time to load, if it is the later, try to boot ur system in safe mode, after press windows logo bottom and R together, to bring up the run dialog box, inside the box, type msconfig.exe, a system configuration utility will pop up, locate the startup button and disable all start up item, press Ok and restart ur system, this will decrease the boot time of ur system.

If u have Ccleaner professional or can get a copy, install it and scan ur system for registry errors, and dont forget to scan ur system also for virus, run a disk clean up utility, and uninstall unnecessary programs Hibernating ur system for up to 2wks can be counter productive, am talking out of experience.

baani: please people i still havent been able to resolve getting the usb ports on my desktop to work, i would appreciate your help. i got a response from someone here but i cant do all tht he said i cant use the keyboard on the system. (its only usb on the desktop, nothing like pci as an option). pls help

What type of desktop are we looking at here.
On board USB ports tends to fail at times, the best bet is to buy a USB PCI card, locate the PCI port on ur Mother board, usually creamy in color, depending on the manufacturer, and install it there, they are plug n play, so u don't need to fiddle with ur BIOS.

LBanks: Please someone should help me. Since yesterday, if i click on the wireless network icon on my laptop, it doesn't pop up (the way it usually does before, to display various available wireless networks). Does it mean i can't use wireless on my laptop again?

Presently, are u within a wireless coverage, or just that ur system does not display other wireless connection to connect to.

Start by going to the device manger and check if the system detects ur wireless device. If yes, then u r looking at OS problem, try to do a system restore if u have any point. If the answer is No, then then try re-sitting the wireless card and reconnecting the black and white cable appropriately.

Do this and let me know how it goes. On the card part, u may probably want 2 an experienced technician.

There are so many things that can cause such redirection, had experienced similar problem turned out to be a virus, for starters which browser are u using, try different browser and c if the problem persists.

secondly try to update ur antivirus, malware and spyware if u have any, then scan ur system, follow it up by running a disk clean up, and clear ur temporal internet files and don't 4get also to check ur Browser properties.. hope this helps
