Of 2face and the Planned Nationwide Rally Against Bad Governance......

I have read many reactions to the planned action by 2face Idibia scheduled for the 5th of February 2017. Most of the condemnations have come from the "Wailers" quarters and in all sincerity, no one can blame anyone for taking such stance but at this time, the truth must be told.

In the run up to the 2015 General Elections, myself, Joseph Yobo, Kanu Nwankwo, Jay Jay Okocha, Emeka Ike and a host of other friends met and mapped out a plan that was to take us to all major markets in Nigeria. The idea was to pull together many of the A-list artistes in Nigeria and have them bombard major markets around the country in solidarity with President Goodluck Jonathan. We contacted several artistes many of whom agreed to participate but when 2face was contacted, he plainly told us he was playing a non-partisan role in the election. He said he was championing a "Vote NOT Fight" campaign against Electoral violence and that he could not support any of the political parties. Hard as it was, we respected his position and moved on.

It is on this note that I'm amazed and a little distraught to see my fellow soldiers say 2face campaigned for Buhari to be president. I was very active politically during the campaign and did not see where he campaigned for the APC. Even though he did not campaign for us, it will be morally wrong to wear him a garment he never wore. 2face was neutral during the campaign and I humbly request anyone with evidence that he campaigned for Buhari to kindly present such.

We are at a time in the history of our nation when the men and women we look up to to lead the campaign against bad governance have all gone quiet. Our Civil Society Groups have suddenly developed cold feet in challenging the bad governance in the land. Ditto Labour, Traditional Institutions, the Media, Student Unions, the Youth Council, National Union of Journalists, Religious Bodies and so on. We have been left on our own. Those who occupied our Television Sets and Radio Stations during the Jonathan era have all gone silent and poor Nigerians are left at the mercy of a government that has no care in the world about their wellbeing.

So, when the news hit town that an artiste like 2face has decided to lead the campaign against this government, I was not only elated, I posited that, it is only trite that all well meaning Nigerians lend their support to the noble call.

I am unapologetically PDP but the truth remains that, as at today, only a Nationwide Movement of the people can unseat this present callous, evil, insensitive, shameless government. Any politician who dares to challenge Buhari today will either end up in jail or be silenced permanently. This government uses the 'anti corruption' razzmatazz to perpetuate evil. They fill the airwaves with stories of fighting corruption while deepening our pains. The victims of bad governance today are not PDP members alone. Every Nigerian is affected by the cluelessness and unseriousness of this present administration. Parents are groaning under the harsh economic regime of the APC. Traders are crying. Businessmen are in pain. There is no one that has been spared. This alone should be enough to ignite in us the Spirit of solidarity with 2face. We should look beyond mundane excuses and rally round ourselves in reclaiming and rescuing our nation from the hands of the vagabonds who have sworn to make us cry.

Fellow Soldiers of Democracy, let us look at the bigger picture. Buhari is the problem and any and every action taken to stop him in his plan to wreck our nation should be supported. I therefore, most humbly appeal to you; lets leave sentiments aside and rescue our nation first from these charlatans.

The FRC law was passed by GEJ in 2011 after the NASS made the law but that version of the law had no connection to Churches. No connection at all. The law was recently amended by the Buhari administraion and passed on the 16 of October 2016.

It is this version of the law that brought in the clause that sought to subjugate Churches. If you listen to Pastor Adeboye's statement when he announced the new GO, he made that pretty clear. He said clearly how they have started to interfere in Church activities. He never ever made that complaint anytime during GEJ's tenure.

I have also seen some people saying that the law was right and in tandem with what obtains all around the world. There is no bigger lie than that. Joel Osteen took over his father's ministry. Franklin Graham, son of Billy Graham, took over his father's ministry. Kenneth Copeland's children are already co-running his ministry even to the second generation. The list goes on and on. These are American preachers. The country whose democracy you follow. Same obtains in Europe. The only places you see such restrictions on ministries are in Islamic countries or communist countries.

The point here is that you cannot intefere with people's personal ministries. If as a government, you believe there is any financial impropriety in any ministry, there are proper laws and channels for handling that. But what just happened was a step into the Christian community to see how they can weaken the community and disorganise it in preparations for future elections.

So this was not about Obazee and Pastor Adeboye made that clear in his statement. He said and I quote

"Some people believe that RCCG is becoming too influential and we’re going to be more influential. When you get home, tell members to join a political party. Just join any party. We shall decide issues right from the ward level. If you are not active at ward level, you’ll do what they plan and say at the top. Enroll in any party of your choice and have a card. When holding meetings at ward level to choose delegates, be there."

That’s going to change from now" the man of God said. The government has been showing increasing interest in church affairs"

If Pastor Adeboye thought for one moment that it was the handywork of one man, one insignificant unknown man called Jim Obazee, he would have simply called any of the big RCCG people in the corridors of government to sort him out. Dont forget the VP is an RCCG pastor. But this was not a one man affair. It was a plan by the powers that be. A plan which came just after Pastor Adeboye was verbally attacked and insulted by the APC, officially, for his statement to Gov Ayo Fayose.

And most importantly, some of us who shouted ourselves hoax did not shout because of Pastor Adeboye. No NO NO! We shouted because the laws didnt just affect Pastor Adeboye, it affected every Pastor and every ministry in Nigeria no matter how big or small. That law would have crippled Christian and ministry activities in the future and there was no telling where it would have led.

We must continue to stay on our guard. Dont be carried away by the sacking and "suspension" of the law by the President. A law cannot be suspended after it has been passed by the house. It has to be reviewed and changed or expunged, not suspended, (Whatever that means).

At the end of the shooting, nine of my relations were gunned down. I lost my father, Madaki aged 104; my elder brother, Paul aged 70; my wife, Salamatu Gambu aged 56 years; two of my brothers’ wives, Hadiza Danjuma, 35 and Helen Fedelis, 40 and the young son of my elder brother. Also killed were the wives of my elder brother’s two sons as well as elder brother’s grand daughter who was eight months pregnant.
Among those who carried out the killings were Fulani who were born and raised in our village. We know them and they know us also. We have been living with them since their parents gave birth to them in Kobin. We know them. Their leader is one Yakubu Alhaji Haruna who is still in Sanga area and moving freely doing what he likes. People who were killed in my village were 48. Yes, we buried 48 people in a mass grave in Kobin. They were killed by people we gave our land to settle and graze their cattle without a quarrel.
There was not even a disagreement or anything between us before the attack. That is the most annoying aspect of the killings. The mass grave is there, just beside my house. And while killing our people, they were shouting, “Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar!” (“God is great” in Arabic, popular with jihadists while on mission). They were also saying “Ku Kashe Arna! Kashe Arna” (Kill the pagans! Kill the Pagans!) I was trapped in my home watching and listening. Those of us who survived are however suffering."
