Q- Dogs are known to go senile at some point, question is what causes it, what steps should one take to anticipate this and in a case of a trained attack dog what shld one do to avoid attacks?

My questions:

1. Why do dogs eat their poo and what can some one do to eradicate it?

2. Why do some dogs eats or kill their puppies if not taken away from them immediately?

3. Sometimes I see people tieing clothe/rope at the waist of their bitch dogs while pregnant, why do they do that?

No1: Dog eat their poop for various reasons and I have experienced this at first hand basis in my dam when she whelped. This habit is commonly seen in female dogs who have puppies, it is done because she wants to keep the environment clean so she licks the puppies poop and wee as a way of doing that. At a particular point, even before 5wks,this habit stopped in mine but it can continue for other dogs.
No 2: some dogs experience malnutrition and in so doing they eat up not totally digested food in a way to make up for that.
No 3: In some dogs it's just a gross habit that probably started as a pup and grew up with it.
Ways to solve this include walking your dog to where it does its biznis and making sure you clean up right after, buying a whistle and having it with you whenever your dog wants to do its biznis and immediately it opens its mouth sound d whistle so loud it stops, pouring bitter substances on d poop so by d time it tastes the dog basically walks away. First things first is hygiene, don't leave poop unattended to.

Q-Why do some dogs kill their pups if not taken away from them immediately?
Also this condition can be caused by a number of reasons ranging from cannibalism, lack of recognition of the pup due to several hormonal imbalances, mastitis(inflammation of the teats), stress or fear, still born or unhealthy pups. Would elaborate on the last part(still born or unhealthy pups cos I av witnessed this before). This habit isn't restricted to just dogs alone, rabbits, snakes, chickens amongst a few display this habit too and this is cos of the dam noticing that d pup is unhealthy and would just pup extra strain on her so she would rather eat it up to gain nutrients than leave it unattended to. Same scenario happens to still born too, d dam feels sorry for d loss of her pup but instead of waste dt amount of nutrients she ingests the pup to make up for the ones she has lost and at the same time feed d ones that made it.

Q-why do people tie a cloth arnd the waist of d dam.....
A- I haven't seen this yet sha but I want to believe it's to prevent the dam from stretching too much in d stage of pregnancy. I have however witnessed using a belt or rope like object to tie d hind leg nd fore leg just enough to prevent her from stretching too.

Reading through this trend I have laughed so much my sides ache. It's amazing to see how little most Nigerians know about dogs (some of you literally flog your dogs) and someone who is afraid of dogs things a bull dog will remain "small" this is hilarious.
Based on this I'm going to find time and put up a trend to show most dog owners how to train their dogs without resorting to violences. And for those who have phobias for the canines please don't go buying dogs without sorting through why you are afraid of dogs.
Finally please to all doggies (what I call dog lovers) please go online and read about you dog breed why they are not eating, why they chew up your shoes (buy them dog toys) etc.
Dogs are family members who can't speak their thoughts let's not treat them as furniture. That dog depends on you and it's your responsibility to live up to that trust.

No 5: Dogs teaches your child even at a young age that he/she is responsible for him/her therefore bringing out a confident, secured child. Others can add theirs

Answer: When you press it, a maggot like nonsense wld come out, trust me it's disgusting. Afterwards clean d affected area with spirit preferably. it's caused when the dog's fur is wet causing flies to perch and lay eggs on it. If it's bot fly u need nt worry much bout it.

Answer : You may not notice any signs during the first 2wks as its still early to determine if she's pregnant or not but subsequently you may notice increased or decreased appetite, behavioural changes, change in nipple colour, change in size of d dam, amongst others.

Question: What is the best way to handle/prevent tick infestation?
Answer: Almost every dog owner battles with this at some point, TICKS. This has killed and ruined many kennels even when they seek appropriate help. Everyone has their own ways of handling tick problems and I also know a few stuffs that I believe would be helpful.
No 1: Am not really a fan of powder applied tick preventive methods cos every dog has their own response to these things and sometimes makers of these product don't emphasize how deadly ingesting this powder by the dog can be. So I'll rather stay off the powder.
No 2: I came across a spray called Bio-Finl of Fio- Finl(they serve d same purpose) then and I wanted to know how effective this spray was. Method of application is to smoother the dog's body with water and spray on areas like d neck, in BTW d toes, back and chest where ticks are more congested. IN minutes the result was amazing, it has a nice fragrance and it can be used on nursing mothers to prevent transmission of ticks from mother to pups as it has no effect.
No 3: For those that don't know about chemical bathe it should only be handled by careful hands. I personally use amirax 20 and it's superb but need to be handled with care so u don't kill your dog unintentionally. Method of application is mixing bout 2ml of the chemical into a big bucket of water. Make sure it's not too concentrated. Wet d dog the water at first, rinse off, apply d dog's shampoo, wash the dog thoroughly and then again rinse the shampoo with the water. This can also b used to clean their cages and surrounding but make sure that in this process the dog wears a mouth guard to prevent it from licking it's body and afterwards for bout 3days u give the dog palm oil and milk to counter any effect of the chemical.
No 4: I only use this for cleaning of their ears. Methylated spirit. I use this cos it's safe, rather that spraying inside of d the ear with chemicals. In a matter of minutes the ticks come out themselves dead and u can clean d laid eggs with cotton wool.
Sorry for the long post , other methods that work well for you are encouraged.

..on my side being able to have studied canines....its not a '6th sense' kind of thing....when it comes to the sense of smell,a dogs sense of smell is 9times higher n hyper sensitive than that of a man...so when u perceive just d general aroma of ur jellof rice,a dog perceives the tomatoes,onion,thyme,curry n so on....their sight is sharper than ours then coupled with good ears that could detect sound from far away...dats y they re said to have a 6th sense(its not like its there..they are just sharper)...they hear the foot steps of that stranger from far away coming to ur gate,perceive his cologne even his body odor n re on red alert b4 he knocks on ur gate n d barking begins .so that's just the magic...a super high hyper sensitivity..dats it

It does pretty fast but I use it only for inside the ears and d good tin is that it evaporates fast too so d dog doesnt av an issue.
