Foreign AffairsViolence Against Women Is Widespread In Pakistan by Kobojunkie(op): 2:32am On Apr 22
Over 2,000 cases of domestic violence, 500 cases of honor killings, and 5,000 cases of rape were reported across Pakistan in 2024. Conviction rates were below 2 percent.

On the night of February 5, in Khuzdar district of Pakistan’s Balochistan province, a group of armed men led by Zahoor Jamalzai forcibly entered Asma Jattak’s home and harassed her family before abducting her.

Zahoor is the brother of the nahib (tribal secretary/assistant) to the sardar (tribal chief) and Balochistan’s former Chief Minister Nawab Sanaullah Khan Zehri. He has been tormenting Asma’s family for more than a decade. In 2012, he allegedly murdered Asma’s fiancé and had since pressured her family to marry her. Upon her family’s refusal, he abducted Asma.

In response, Asma’s family, notably her professor brother, Attaullah Jattak, along with community members, took to the streets, blocking the Quetta-Karachi highway with a sit-in protest for at least three days. The incident sparked outrage on social media, and led to a walkout by the members of the Balochistan Provincial Assembly in protest.

On the second day, a video surfaced on social media, showing Asma saying that she went with Zahoor willingly. However, her family and community members continued the protest, claiming the abductors may have forced her to record a false statement.

Under pressure from the community and social media, and after a police raid, Asma was eventually released. But the main suspect, Zahoor, remains free.

The Asma episode highlights not only the dire security situation, especially for women, in Balochistan, but also draws attention to the impunity with which powerful men operate. Men with connections to influential sardars in Balochistan, who make their own rules in territories they claim as theirs, are usually exempted from legal consequences.

Many of these sardars run private prisons, where they torture and execute people, including women. However, these grave crimes go unchecked and unpunished. Law enforcement agencies act only when pressured and even then true accountability is almost non-existant.

Asma’s case can be analyzed from the perspective of the failure of law enforcement. So powerful and influential are the sardars that even those working under their authority feel entitled to harass families, violate their dignity, commit crimes like murder and abduction, and yet, remain free from accountability.

However, Asma’s case is also a reminder of another large, deep-rooted and common issue in Pakistan: violence against women. Women are unsafe even in the premises of their own homes, let alone outside.

The Istanbul Convention, a benchmark international legislation to protect women, frames violence against women as “a form of gender-based violence that is committed against women, because they are women.” It further states that it is the obligation of the state to prosecute the perpetrators of such crimes, and if the state institutions turn a blind eye, there can be no real equality and justice.

Asma belonged to a middle-class, educated family, which drew public attention to the crime perpetrated against her, without the fear of honor-related shame and societal stigma. Such concerns often overshadow the issue itself, especially in cases that involve women.

According to a report titled, “Mapping Gender-Based Violence in Pakistan” by the Sustainable Social Development Organization (SSDO), in 2024, over 24,000 cases of abductions and kidnappings were reported across Pakistan, ranking as one of the highest reported kinds of gender-based violence. On average, 67 cases were reported daily. But the conviction rate in such cases was a dismal 0.1 percent.

There may be thousands more cases that go unreported because families remain silent, fearing social stigma or surrendering to the intimidation by powerful tribal sardars, their private militias, or other armed men. Especially when such cases are related to women from marginalized communities, they hardly get reported. Even if they do, investigation and conviction are another long and exhausting process.

In 2024, Punjab reported the largest number of abduction cases in the country. but Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan also have high numbers.

Abductions of girls in Punjab are often tied with trafficking, rape, forced marriages, and forced labor. In Sindh, cases of abduction of women are tied to forced religious conversion and marriage. It is mostly young Hindu minority girls that are victims of such crimes. Many also link these forced conversions to the decline of the minority population in Sindh, from 25 percent in 1947 to only 3 percent in 2024.

In Balochistan, such cases are usually related to forced marriage and rape. However, there is still a denial of the existence of such crimes. The belief that Baloch society “honors its women” is deeply and widely ingrained and is often repeated in general discussions, conferences, or even at the Baloch Provincial Assembly.

But Balochs are not alone in this. None of Pakistan’s ethnic groups would openly admit to dishonoring their women, yet crimes against women are common. While the notion of “honoring women” may be a cultural value, it is not always upheld by everyone. By denying the existence of these crimes, a society can only contribute to the stigma around reporting them.

Violence against women is recognized the world over as one of the most common human rights violations, reflecting the number of crimes against women: abduction and kidnapping, sexual grooming, forced conversion and forced marriage, honor killing, domestic violence, rape, trafficking, mental or physical violence, and financial exploitation.

Thanks to global efforts, conventions like the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women and the U.N. Declaration on the Elimination of Violence against Women have come into effect. Governments and civil society worldwide as well as laws and judicial systems at least recognize the existence of these crimes, and work together to prevent and combat violence against women. Yet violence against women persists.

Pakistani society overall is characterized not only by a patriarchal order that is entrenched in society but also by power inequalities. These contribute to the criminal justice system, including the police and judiciary, failing to act in response to gender violence complaints. As per the SSDO report, over 2,000 cases of domestic violence, more than 500 cases of honor killings and over 5,000 cases of rape were reported across Pakistan in 2024, with conviction rates below 2 percent for each of these crimes.

Pakistan’s Penal Code is the primary legal framework for criminal offenses in Pakistan and covers a range of offenses and crimes against women. In addition, amendments have been made to pro-women legislations in recent years to address shortcomings. These include the Women Protection Bill (2006), Domestic Violence Prevention and Protection Acts in Sindh (2013) and Balochistan (2014), Punjab Protection of Women against Violence Act 2016, and the Prevention of Anti-Women Practices (Criminal Law Amendment) Act 2011.

Yet men like Zahoor and thousands of others continue to break the laws without any fear of conviction. This is because of poor implementation of the laws. While the trauma Asma and thousands of women go through daily cannot be undone, a structural change, where the rule of law is nonnegotiable, is necessary to ensure that other women do not suffer violence. Without an effective implementation of law, even a list of robust laws will leave women without any protection.

Foreign AffairsRe: Surge In Child Marriage And Adolescent Pregnancy Threatens A Generation Of Girls by Kobojunkie(op): 2:14am On Apr 22
The sexual depravity that Hamas proudly broadcast to the world during its Oct. 7, 2023 rampage across southern Israel has now shown up in Gaza, with video testimonies emerging of pervasive abuse, coercion for food, and an increase in both child marriages and child pregnancies.

In a new bombshell report, the Daily Mail presented findings from both the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) into rising child marriages and an anonymous journalist at Jusoor News who filmed Gaza residents reporting on the exploitation of women.

According to the UNFPA, while pre-war numbers of child brides fell to 11 percent in 2022, a decrease from 26 percent in 2009, marriage records from 2025 showed that at least 400 girls between 14 and 16 had become wives. This number likely only counts a fraction of the total as many such religious ceremonies to theologically justify child abuse go unreported.

Nestor Owomuhangi, whose official title is “UNFPA Representative to Palestine,” explained that war and collapsing humanitarian conditions had exacerbated this regression.

“We are witnessing the dismantling of a generation’s future,” Owomuhangi said.

Multiple men told Jusoor News they had seen or heard of Hamas members abusing women, with one reporting that a Hamas charity organization had blackmailed his neighbor and sought to become her love-vendor. “They wanted her to LovePeddler herself in exchange for a food parcel, or an aid voucher, or 100 shekels,” he said.

Exchange rates on Monday placed 100 shekels as equal to $33.48.

A fighter in Hamas’s military wing, the Qassam Brigades, confirmed the sex crimes, saying that Hamas members took advantage of the “wives of martyrs” in a tent in the Gharabli area in Deir al-Balah. He was told to say nothing but chose to tear down the tent, declaring, “We told them it was an insult to our honor and dignity.”

Another anonymous man in Gaza said “we were contacted by the wife of a friend. She had asked a Qassam Brigades commander to help her, but he took advantage of her. His behavior is disgraceful. We investigated the matter and found her in a tent in the Gharabli area where a bunch of Qassam members were taking advantage of her.”

He also reported that “we informed the leadership, but we were told we had to keep silent about it.”

An unnamed woman said she had experienced sexual harassment from a man at a Hamas charity who appeared religious when she sought help. “I asked him how he could talk to me like that. And he should be ashamed,” she said. “I told him I would expose him. He said, ‘You cannot expose me; I am the government here.'”

One anonymous elderly woman said that “one charity in Gaza is unfortunately the biggest perpetrator. From its chairman all the way down to its doorman, it’s being done by all their employees and members, as though it’s an organization set up for sexual harassment, psychological abuse, and harassing young women.”

Reports of rising sexual abuse against girls and widows come as Hamas continues to resist pressure to disarm in accordance with the US-backed ceasefire and peace plan for Gaza.

On Sunday, the New York Times reported that two Hamas officials had said the Palestinian terrorist group planned to surrender thousands of automatic rifles and small weapons which belonged to Gaza police and other internal security organizations. However, this would not entail full disarmament, which according to the peace plan is a key prerequisite for beginning major reconstruction of Gaza and for Israel, whose military currently controls 53 percent of the enclave, to further withdraw its force.

According to several reports, Hamas recently rejected the Board of Peace’s eight-month phased plan for the terrorist group to disarm. US President Donald Trump proposed the Board of Peace in September to oversee his plan to end the Israel-Hamas war in Gaza, subsequently saying it would address other conflicts.

Meanwhile, Hamas is further tightening its grip on the nearly half of Gazan territory it still controls, where the vast majority of the population lives.

Since the initial ceasefire took effect in October, Hamas has imposed a brutal crackdown, sparking clashes with rival militias as it seeks to eliminate any opposition.

The Meir Amit Intelligence and Terrorism Information Center (ITIC) — an Israel-based research institute — released a report last month explaining how the US-Israeli war against the Islamic regime in Iran had disrupted the second phase of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, which required Hamas to disarm in order for Israeli troops to withdraw.

Earlier this month, Hamas demanded that the Israel Defense Forces exit first before giving up weapons.

ITIC’s analysts warned that this delay could enable Hamas — which still controls approximately 47 percent of Gaza — to rearm. The Islamist terrorists are reportedly smuggling in guns from Egypt and creating weapons internally.

In late March, Turkey reaffirmed its longstanding support for Hamas when the terrorist group’s senior negotiator Khalil Al-Khaya and its political bureau delegation met with Turkish intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalın. Kalın had also met with senior Hamas leaders in Istanbul the previous week.

According to the Middle East Monitor, the Hamas delegation “expressed its appreciation to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for Turkey’s efforts to achieve peace in Gaza.”

A generation of young Palestinians at risk
Child marriage is one part of a broader protection crisis for an entire generation of young Palestinians. The psychological toll on young people in Gaza is profound. Four in ten youth report symptoms of depression, or moderate to severe anxiety, while 61 per cent show signs of post-traumatic stress disorder.

Years of occupation, war, displacement, movement restrictions, and lack of access to education or jobs have left 70% of youth feeling unsafe. Together, these pressures will have lasting consequences for young people’s health, well-being and future.

UNFPA Response
UNFPA has scaled up support through safe spaces for girls to prevent and respond to child marriage and early pregnancy. These safe spaces provide counselling, life skills and guidance on protection risks. UNFPA also provides cash assistance to vulnerable households, and distributes ‘dignity kits’ with essential supplies to help girls maintain safety and dignity when displaced. UNFPA also supports youth through health services and life-skills training. “Any investment in Gaza’s future must include investing in youth to support their recovery and open up pathways to education and jobs so they can allow hope to once again take hold,” said Mr. Owomuhangi. UNFPA is seeking US$20 million to scale up its support for adolescent girls and youth, as part of its $110 million humanitarian and recovery programme for Gaza, of which just $10 million has been received to date.

Foreign AffairsSurge In Child Marriage And Adolescent Pregnancy Threatens A Generation Of Girls by Kobojunkie(op): 2:10am On Apr 22
New York/ Jerusalem, 6 April 2026 – After more than two years of war, displacement and deprivation, youth in Gaza face emergency levels of depression and anxiety, while protection concerns for adolescent girls are spiking, with a sharp rise in child marriage and early pregnancy, according to new analysis by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).

Child marriage and early pregnancy
Before the war, child marriage in Palestine had fallen significantly, from 26 per cent in 2009 to 11 per cent in 2022. Yet, a UNFPA survey in 2024 points to growing pressure to marry girls under 18 and widespread concern across communities. More recent tracking of emergency court records further underscores this trend: at least 400 girls aged 14 to 16 were granted marriage permissions over just four months in 2025 (based on paper records reviewed by partner organisations). These figures likely represent only a fraction of the reality. With registration systems largely collapsed, many marriages are conducted informally and go unrecorded. At the same time, service providers report increasing cases of forced and early marriage across communities. Taken together, the evidence signals a clear and alarming shift: child marriage is rising again under the pressure of war.

“We are witnessing the dismantling of a generation’s future,” said Nestor Owomuhangi, UNFPA Country Representative for the State of Palestine. “Girls in Gaza are not choosing marriage – they are being driven into it by hunger, fear and displacement. A 15-year-old girl should be in a classroom, not facing the life-threatening risks of pregnancy in a world where health care has all but collapsed. Child marriage is not protection – it is a form of gender-based violence that robs girls of their childhood, their health and their future.”

As child marriage rises, so too does adolescent pregnancy. Adolescent birth rates have more than doubled compared to pre-war levels (Ministry of Health/UNFPA SRH Dashboard - 2025 Data). Adolescent girls face significantly higher risks of complications during pregnancy and childbirth, particularly as access to health care is severely constrained. Early marriage also exposes girls to increased risks of physical, emotional and sexual violence. In 2025, across the Occupied Palestinian territories, adolescent girls accounted for 12 per cent of all reported gender-based violence survivors, underscoring their heightened vulnerability. At the same time, girls are cut off from education, economic opportunities and support systems.

UNFPA analysis shows that child marriage in Gaza is increasingly driven by survival, not choice. Families facing extreme poverty and displacement are resorting to marriage as a coping mechanism, sometimes to access basic resources. Displacement and insecurity, including overcrowded shelters and fear of violence, are reinforcing marriage as a perceived form of protection among families. The collapse of education and loss of caregivers have further increased girls’ vulnerability. Under these conditions, pre-existing harmful social norms are being reinforced, with decisions about marriage increasingly made without girls’ consent.

➜Did you not see the poster that I attached with a Jewish man holding a chicken with the head of Tsar Nicholas. FYI, the poster was issued to celebrate the overthrow of the Tsar and his subsequent murder alongside his entire family.
Even the execution was carried out by a hand picked special team of exclusively Jewish criminals who migrated to Russia from New York specifically to take part in the revolution.
Only one ethnic group was rushing and invading Russia leading to the revolution and these were Jews from the US and across Europe.
Also note that at the basement of the Winter Palace where the execution occurred, a graffiti in Hebrew with the words "MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN'' was inscribed on the walls.
It is believed that the Romanovs were not simply shot but a horrific sadistic ritual torture and brutal rape was carried out on the family.
The words MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN are from the book of Daniel and is about Nebuchadnezzar's grand son who took the gold cups from the temple which his grandfather had seized from to hold a feast .
That was a propaganda image created at the time in question. The Jews suffered persecution and violent pogroms during the time of the Tsar, and so they were among those who were relieved by his fall. How you then seek to tie that into meaning that the Bolshevik revolution was primarily Jewish or that Stalin's rule over the Soviet Union was engineered and run primarily by the Jews is beyond me. 😒

Please, my mother was diagnosed with arthritis. We were told that there is no cure for arthritis. An X-ray was carried out, and the doctor said the only solution for her is knee replacement surgery. I would like to know where this can be done in Nigeria and the success rate of the surgery.
It’s not only her knees that hurt; the pain spreads all over her legs. She has been taking pain relievers, but they only provide relief for a few minutes. It’s not that we have the money for the surgery, but we just want to try to contribute among our siblings because she calls us every day to complain about the pain.
Please, is there any alternative treatment to relieve her condition apart from surgery?
Knee replacement for arthritis? 🤔

How much does your mother weigh? If she weighs over 150lbs(~ 65kg) consider getting her on a diet to take off some of that weight on her knee while you work on finding a place for the surgery. 🤔

I myself had knee problems and was advised to get the surgery. I was not too happy with the fact that the surgery was not 100% guaranteed to resolve the issue. So I took up riding a bicycle and dieting to take some of the weight off my knee in the meantime. I figured that if I got some weight off the knee, it would maybe hurt less and allow me to manage the condition better while I sorted out my feelings about getting the knee replaced with possibly a metal. At first, it hurt like hell to move my knee on the bike; I kept pushing through to get to my initial weight loss goal. And I am glad I did that. It's 15 years later, and not only did I not need to get the surgery, but the pain has long since disappeared, as I think I lost much of the weight that was causing the problem. 🤔🤔
